I was originally searching for a place to buy a slice of cake for my daughter's birthday when I came across this business. They had some good reviews so I decided to check them out. I placed an order for 6 cupcakes online. After tasting dry cupcakes from other establishments, I was skeptical on trying these cupcakes. I took one bite of the peanut buttercup cupcake and it was heaven! The icing had good fresh PB flavor and the chocolate cake almost melted in my mouth. Very moist and chocolatey. Next, we tried the birthday cake cupcake. The icing had just the right amount of sweetness, the sprinkles were so pretty, and the vanilla bean cake was just as moist as the chocolate cupcake. My daughter and her friend shared the lemon drop cupcake and they both enjoyed it. They said it had good lemon flavor with the lemon curd filling and lemon buttercream, and again, the vanilla bean cake was moist and tender. The cupcakes were a nice size. We also bought pink vanilla, cookies and cream, and caramel crunch cupcakes. We left those for our daughter to eat and share. Overall, I'm glad I found this cute little cupcake shop. I never knew it existed, and I've been to the Trader Joe's around the corner numerous times. The staff were friendly. I originally ordered 4 of the 6 cupcakes in chocolate and although my daughter likes chocolate, she prefers vanilla. I thought I'd balance the box with half vanilla and half chocolate cupcakes. The staff was more than happy to switch out one of the cupcakes for a flavor that I wanted instead. Try these cupcakes. You won't be disappointed. We'll definitely be back! read more

I decided to stop by Smallcakes since my coworker recommended it. I can honestly say it is better than Sprinkles which is where I usually go. Staff was friendly and offered recommendations. The cake to frosting ratio is perfect and the cake is light. I got the almond raspberry and the pearls on top made it look so pretty. Flavor was amazing and it had surprise raspberry jam inside! I tried the hot sundae one and while it is good, it definitely leans towards the super sweet side. I do love the looks of it and the cherry on top is fun. The base chocolate cupcake is really good and soft, dare I say ''moist". But perhaps the frosting is just a bit too sickly sweet. Though that said I am more adjusted to Asian sweets as opposed to western sweets so it just might be my own taste. But the cupcake is good for when you just want something sweet. I was blown away by the gorgeous cake that Nisha made for my daughter's first birthday! I sent an image of what I wanted recreated from a photo on the internet and what I got was a copy of it to the T! When taking my order, Nisha paid close attention to all the details to ensure that I'd like the design. I was even able to get a smash cake with a frosting color that matched this main cake. Ordered catering from batter n icing for an important corporate meeting. From the beginning, the girl that took my order was mixing things up. Like not knowing they had mini pumpkin pies on their menu, not asking me for a delivery address (I gave it to her myself) and then asking me again on text and getting the dates wrong. I gave her the benefit of the doubt anyways and just thought she might've been busy so she didn't get all the info. I asked specifically if they offered delivery directly through themselves rather than a 3rd party and they said they do but it would be a different price; I agreed to pay either way, the she said oh it's actually the same. I stated that I wanted it delivered directly from them not DoorDash since DoorDash tends to lag, she said it would be no problem. Two days later and the day of comes. The order was to be delivered at 11:45am. It was about to be 12pm and the order still had not arrived. I called them and they said it was just picked up and will be there in 20 minutes. I asked if it's being delivered directly from them she said no DoorDash. I explain that I had specifically asked that it doesn't get delivered through DoorDash because of the lag and why I wasn't notified about the late delivery and she said they were running late in the kitchen and that they thought "delivery at 11:45am" meant that's when the order is supposed to be sent out for delivery. Our corporate meeting lunch went on without dessert as the lunch was at 12pm and the desserts did not arrive until 12:40. At 12:40 I called them asking where the DoorDasher is as I did not have their tracking number or any way of tracking and she told me it had been delivered however, I couldn't find it. Turns out the doordasher delivered it to the wrong building, so I had to go pick it up from there. When finally receiving the cupcakes at 1:10pm, the cupcakes were lopsided and messed up. At 1:20 I got another call that they are willing to redeliver the cupcakes which at that point was pointless and I told her I went to pick up the cupcakes from the incorrect location myself. After all that, she offered to see if she can refund the delivery fee of $37, which I never got notification for or a receipt for. The manager was supposed to reach out, but they never did. We do these meetings often and alway cater from different businesses and had never experience such unprofessionalism. I do not recommend catering from them as it was a very negative experience and we will no longer be using them either after that. read more

Smallcakes is one of the best cupcake shops in the Bay Area and I wish I was able to get their cupcakes more often. I've been here a couple of times and the cupcakes have been top notch both visits. They have special flavors each month and they vary day to day. I always found myself missing out on the flavors I wanted to try because they were offered during the week and I would be at work but since I'm now working from home I'm able to try them. They have your standard flavors such as Red Velvet, Strawberry, Vanilla but they also have some other interesting flavors that they feature such as Cannoli, Cherry Blossom and Lemon Poppy just to make a few. I love that they think outside of the box and have flavors that you might not see anywhere else and they are well executed. The cupcakes are always fresh, fluffy and light with just the right amount of frosting and it isn't overly sweet. My favorite cupcakes are Strawberry and Cannoli. The strawberry has a very nice flavor, the strawberry flavor isn't too strong, the frosting is great and it's garnished with a slice of strawberry. Now the cannoli cupcake is on a whole other level!! I believe the cupcake itself is vanilla bean and it was so moist and decadent, the frosting tasted like it could have been buttercream or cannoli filling and it was full of chocolate chips but it doesn't end there. They top the cupcake off with a mini cannoli so you have two desserts in one. By far one if the best cupcakes I've ever had and I've been dying to try it for a couple of months. Overall this cupcake shop is amazing! The cupcakes are delish, the prices are reasonable and the customer service is wonderful. I will definitely be back! read more

Absolutely not! I just purchased cupcakes from batter and icing in Danville for a special occasion, and was shocked by the quality of the product. After only 10 minutes, the cupcakes completely disintegrated and are inedible. I reached out to the shop immediately, expecting at least a basic level of customer service or an offer to replace them, but they refused to return or refund the cupcakes! I understand things can go wrong, but the dismissive attitude from the staff is unacceptable. Instead of offering any sort of solution, they just placed the blame entirely on me and washed their hands of the issue. With so many other great bakeries around, I highly recommend avoiding this one. If you want a reliable, high-quality product and decent customer service, look elsewhere! read more

Smallcakes made some cute sorority themed cupcakes for my sister's graduation! I requested pastel colored frosting and chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. I couldn't eat them because my diet is mostly plant-based but my family really enjoyed them. I was able to walk-in and buy a vegan chocolate cupcake when I came into pick these up. The vegan chocolate cupcake was really good! They need at least a 2-3 day advanced notice after you submit in your order online. The owner was quick to respond and clarified what my order included when they made these cupcakes. We got a box of cupcakes today at work for my birthday and they were amazing! I had the vanilla with light pink, sparkly frosting as the color was too pretty for me not to grab first dibs.
