They even have a fireplace which is excellent when Baby it's Cold Outside(hope this review is not banned for that refrence) . From what I have observed this establishment is well run. Servers greated us properly, water glasses were full, and attentive with out being in yo' face. THE FOOD IS OUTSTANDING. App the hearts of palm salad and spicy shrimp. Salad was fresh, arugula, hearts of palm and tomatoes, in a light citrus dressing, yumzz. Spicy shrimp was a little spicy, tangy, and a nice amount of garlic cooked perfectly. We split the tritip steak with a garlic sauce, It was much larger than just the tip. Flavorful Cooke perfecrly. the side is rice, beans, pico de gallo, and bread crumbs. This dinner can be split. We came here to celebrate a special occasion and made reservations in advance. We were a little disappointed to find that they placed us in a tent out back but didn't tell us ahead of time. It was only 30 degrees out and we were definitely not dressed to be sitting outside. The tent did have space heaters but even with them cranked up, by the time dinner was over, my fingers and toes were numb and my husband had to keep his coat on the entire meal. We both ordered mojitos to drink - these were excellent and made to order. We ordered the cheesy bread special and the fried chicken appetizers but our bread was accidentally given to another table by mistake. Both our server and the manager came out and apologized and promised to remove the appetizer from our bill. At the end of the night, we were still charged. We didn't want to cause a scene, so we paid it, but if they tell you that they'll remove something from the bill, they should honor it. As for our dinners, my husband had a steak and although us was cooked perfectly, it was not served as it was shown on the many Yelp reviews we looked at prior to coming to the restaurant. I had the Xim Xim, which I didn't think was a very memorable dish and wasn't worth the price. Although good, it definitely wasn't the celebratory meal we were hoping for and I ended up boxing up most of it to take home and try to doctor up with more spice. We each had dessert - again, Good, but not spectacular. For the price, almost $200 - I was expecting a real wow factor but this was not it. Would I come back? We really enjoyed our meal here. We sat on the patio which was lovely surrounded by gardens. We started with a passion fruit vodka cocktail which was fresh and tart. We decided to share everything so we could try more which worked out great. We had the warm cheese appetizer with honey and oregano which was amazing. Next we had the strawberry salad which was also delish with a very good dressing. For the main course we had they key lime chicken that tasted great with the plantains, rice and fresh veggies. I'm visiting a friend who has visited Batuqui a few times, so I already knew it would be good. Even so, it managed to exceed my expectations. The setting is clean, cozy, and intimate and you could get away with casual or dressy clothing. The tables are a bit close but positioned so you don't feel like you're sharing conversation with the people next to you (unless you want to). Our server, Julianna, was sweet, personable, and prompt. We decided to try the restaurant week menu and there was a bit of a wait for the entree course, which Julianna let us know was due to a large party that sat before us. We were in no rush so it wasn't an issue, but they gave us our second round of cocktails on the house which was a nice gesture. The food was amazing. My friend and I didn't realize they were participating in restaurant week, but decided to opt for that menu after looking it over. It was two hearty courses followed by a light dessert. If you're looking to spend and hour or two with warm, rich, delicious food and refreshing drinks, this is an amazing experience. I came here with a friend who spoke very highly of Batuqui. I can't argue that his thoughts are correct! Batuqui is located inside an old residential house on Larchmere. Larchmere is dimly lit so be sure to drive slow and stay patient while you look for free street parking. I'm compelled to note that its rather small inside and many of the tables are right on top of each other. It's near impossible to social distance. I've had COVID twice so I am less scared, but if I hadn't, I'd approach this choice with caution. Because literally, I couldn't scoot my chair out without hitting the man behind me. We were sitting at a table by the window and it was tough to move. The service here is lightening fast. There was extremely little time between our courses and the food was absolutely incredible. For dinner I had the Ensopado de Porco. Ensopado de Porco is made with pork and seasonal vegetables with Brazilian rice and sweet plantains. The flavor profile was wonderful! It was by far my favorite dish we ordered. We will definitely return after COVID when it's a bit more comfortable to stay a while. read more

What a great find over on the East side of Cleveland near the heights. The Larchmere neighborhood has some good spots, and this place ranks right up there. My wife and I had dinner here before a recent theatre show downtown. The space is cozy and intimate without a corporate bone in its body. The restaurant is housed within an old home making for unusual spaces and interesting decor. Our table was quite close to the couple next to us, and we struck up an immediate conversation and friendship with these folks. It added to the uniqueness of the experience, for sure. Both my wife and I started off the evening with a traditional cocktail...the premium Caipirinha, but we ordered it with light sugar so that it wasn't super sweet. It definitely reminds me of a Mojito, but had a much tangier (sour?), brighter note to it. We each ordered a main dish and no appetizers as we wanted to save room for dessert instead. My wife ordered off of their Specials menu, and I got the Moqueca Baiana with shrimp. Her dish was cod fish based and served in a warmed dish. She seemed to enjoy it, but said it had a strong fishy taste to it. I, on the other hand, really loved the Moqueca Baiana which was kind of like a shrimp stew served in a tangy coconut milk based sauce over rice. It had a slightly sweet creaminess that paired really well with the tomatoes and rice. I sopped up every bit of it! For dessert, we'd heard great things about their coconut butter cake and we had left juuust enough room to handle it. My wife ordered a Brazilian coffee (which was smooth, flavorful and delightful) and we shared the cake which was decadent. It was served warm with a deliciously sticky syrup making for fantastic bite (after bite!). This place is a keeper, for sure. This place is so cute! Batuqui is literally a house they made into a quaint Brazilian restaurant. We were a little disheveled once we sat down and just ordered the appetizer trio. I'm going to be honest I don't know what was in each, we were hungry. So... We went for happy hour. We got the white sangria, drink of the month, and it was delicious. We also got the appetizer trio. Which I don't know what was what. But there was yuca fries, with sausage. So good!!! Great crisp bite. Love! We got a seafood soup? Dip? Regardless it was warm and tomato-y with a huge chunks of calamari and little squids. So good. So tender. A perfect bite. The last item was some kind of fried meat, regardless the mint/basil sauce that came with it was delicious. I will go back for dinner. I've been to Batuqui a couple times now with different groups of people and each time everyone has loved their dishes. We tried the Picanha Acebolada, which was absolutely delicious. Not only was it a great cut of meat, I personally loved the farofa that came on the side to mix with the rice. If you're a seafood person though, I'd highly recommend the Moqueca Baiana with fish and shrimp (the combo). We had this on a nice fall day and it truly felt warm and made with love. Having a coconut milk base made this stew reminiscent of a curry. As for the atmosphere, it felt like you're in someone's house, as if you're there for a dinner party. It was definitely a cozy and warm feeling, as if someone is back in the kitchen making you personally a delicious meal. Would definitely come back again. read more

Batuqui is another Chagrin falls favorite of ours. The Moqueca Baiana is vegetarian and gluten free! I get that with a fried plantain it is so satisfying! The service is always nice and always personal. I don't recommend you sit upstairs until they figure out how to quiet it down, it can be loud and echoey. The front patio outside is very nice and so is the bar and downstairs tables. They do offer vegetarian and gluten free. I recommend Batuqui. read more

Fantastic restaurant with authentic food I'm not sure what the inside looks like because I've only been sitting in the outdoor patio area. I absolutely love dining here. The service is great. The cocktails are creative and strong. The seafood is super fresh. My favorite app is the Pao De Queijo. I could eat at least 3 servings of these. they remind me of Colombian pandebonos but less chewy on the inside and crispier outside. My favorite dish is the Mariscada. This is definitely comfort food. It is very creamy and well spiced. It is unlike any curry I have had before because it was a bit lighter than I expected. lots of seafood. I didn't really eat the rice that came with it. when I come next time, I definitely would order family style because the portions are very large and I don't like taking seafood home. read more

There is no other place like this in Cleveland and lucky for us Batuqui is fantastic! It is a house turned restaurant and upon walking in you immediately feel the comforting warmth of the atmosphere. It is a small restaurant, they have a patio in the back, so for weekends, make reservations. This is a perfect spot to bring friends who want to try a new cuisine, great for a date night or just to spend time with friends. I don't think enough Clevelanders have experienced this amazing establishment. My husband and I have been here twice and both times have been blown away by the flavors of each dish. My husband has been to Brazil and last time we ate here he said that the flavors brought back so many memories of being there. Our last meal there was so good that I haven't been able to stop thinking about it and it makes me want to learn how to cook Brazilian food. We started with the Pao De Queijo which is a Brazilian cheese bread. Simple and very delicious. For my entree I ordered the Moqueca Baiana (with fish and shrimp) a traditional Brazilian stew made with coconut milk and my husband ordered the Churrasco de Picanha a traditional Brazilian sirloin steak. Oh and of course we ordered a side of plantains that we probably didn't need but how can you not order them? The Brazilian stew was incredibly flavorful! They are very plentiful with the servings of fish and shrimp you get in the dish. This is a dish I did not want to share and I ate every last bite and I used my plantains to soak up any extra remenients of the stew. The sirloin steak comes out on a sizzling hot plate and cooks while you eat. I don't know how they do it but the steak was cooked to perfection (the menu does not lie). Don't skip out on dessert here. We ended our meal with the Coconut Butter Cake (OMG). To be cheesy but honest it was the perfect ending to our perfect meal. read more

I've had this place bookmarked for a while, but since crossing from the west to the east side is like traveling to the other side of the world I kept putting my visit off. Then Cleveland Independents Restaurant Week was announced and I just had to take advantage of this great deal! For $33 you get a three course meal. This is awesome because it allows you to sample some of the main attractions the restaurant has to offer and hopefully convinces you to come back to try more dishes. First off, Batuqui is located in a lovely renovated Victorian home so the setting is a mix of cozy and classy. Staff is excellent. This is a big deal for me. Maybe I am crazy, but the food, the whole experience improves when staff is pleasant and does their job well. I sat at the bar and David was attentive and friendly. I even got to chat a little with the owner, Carla. Her and her husband are both from Brazil but did not meet until they both moved to Cleveland! They have a passion for bringing authentic Brazilian cuisine to the area, and I'm talking grandma's recipes, not the chain Brazilian restaurants you see promoting all you can eat meat. I started off with the cocktail of the month, some sort of very strong pineapple and mint concoction $6 (happy hour price). For my appetizer I went with the Pastel de Carne. Similar to an empanada, but smaller and lighter. On their own just okay, but I asked for a dipping sauce and they brought out this cilantro lime? sauce and homemade hot sauce that really elevated the flavor. Next up was the main dish, Moqueca Baiana. Ohhh heaven this was so tasty! It's kind of like a coconut curry/creamy stew dish with shrimp and fish and served with a scoop of rice and fresh cilantro. They offered me this jar of hot peppers and oil to try and I am glad I sampled it before putting it all over my dish as it caught my mouth on fire. For dessert I went with the Coconut Butter Cake. Mmm what an excellent finish to a great meal! A thin slice of cake with toasted coconut, the perfect amount of sweetness. While they give you slightly smaller portions in the Restaurant Week deal, you still get plenty of food. I left stuffed and wanted to unbutton my pants. I don't know if it was the strong drink or the wonderful food, but I was passed out before 9pm that night! Today I am left wishing I didn't eat all of that stew so I could have a second helping! We had a great experience here! While I can't claim to be an authority on Brazilian food, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We went on a Friday evening. We made a reservation on Open Table just in case, but for 2 people, it really wouldn't have been that bad of a wait. The restaurant is a house converted into a restaurant space and has a lot of charm. The wait staff seems to work as a team which creates great customer service. It seemed every time we took a sip from our water, it was refilled. In addition, the food is good for appetizers to dessert. We both got the cheesy bread to share, which was hot and amazing. It used to be an old house but transformed into a very cute, quaint, warm restaurant that has the family feel to it as soon as you walk in the door. Also ordered the Pao De Queijo (cheese bread) which could have been presented a little better but the flavor was still there which is the important thing. They looked like tiny cream puffs but tasted like cheese garlic goodness. My entree was the Picanha Acebolada (Brazilian steak). Amazing presentation and the cook was perfect on the steak. It was served with farofa, rice, beans, and tomato relish. Everything tasted great on its own but mixing it all together with a piece of steak was the way to go. For some, the price is fair, but "churrasco de picanha" (Picanha Barbecue) for example is a steal, 42 dollars for a tiny steak and a plate of rice and beans, outrageous. Moqueca is also expensive for the small portion and a dish that is not authentic, with pre-prepared sauce. The night before I spent the same amount at a restaurant signed by a chef. Was able to try a bunch of dishes with a group of friends. We tried the moqueca baiana, feijoana, churrasco de picanha, and one of the special dishes. Also had the cheese bread--yum! Overall, anything with steak was really good. Super tender and probably the highlight of the night! I also enjoyed the moqueca baiana, which had a strong coconut taste with shrimp and fish. One dish per person will probably leave you pretty full. We also got dessert, which was also delicious! We had some wort of white chocolate mouse and passion fruit mousse. Both were really good and a great end to the meal. The place is pretty small, and can probably only seat around 20 people. They also only have a single bathroom, which is right next to the dining area. So you either have to keep an eye on the door or wait in line next to people who are eating.. a little awkward. Overall, I probably wouldn't come again on my own (mostly because of the price). But I'd happily come if others wanted to! read more

My new favorite restaurant. Cannot say enough good things from the service to the food. My boyfriend and I ate out in the heated tent which was hot (in the best way). They also had blankets in case you were cold. The servers were so quick & helpful. I ordered the key lime chicken which was delicious, didn't taste strongly of lime though. The rice, veggies & plantains complemented the dish perfectly. You literally get 1/2 a chicken so I had some leftovers. My boyfriend got the steak with Farofa, rice, tomato relish & beans which he raved about. He practically licked the plate clean. I love how the food isn't super heavy but perfectly filling.
