COVENTRY, Cleveland - You guys. The fries. Terrific. Wife and I were in the adjacent bookstore on a Friday evening, around 7ish. Both a little hungry. Figured we'd give Tommy's a shot, not knowing it's this long-standing institution with a devoted fan base. That fandom is deserved. Brightly lit, clean, friendly staff. We were seated immediately. Really interesting menu with a lot of vegetarian and eclectic choices. $5 basket of fries was wayyyy big and some of the best fries I've ever had - a nice crispness on the outside, while fluffy inside. Wife's spinach pie with muenster cheese ($11.85) was flaky and generous with the fillings. Loved my $3 phosphate. My DC falafel sandwich ($14) - with sesame seeds, cheese, sprouts and tomatoes - was crazy big and the falafel was perfectly cooked, with a nice crunch. Our server Kelsey was really personable. I'm not sure what my thoughts are about "Tommy's" on Coventry...? On the one hand, we did show up as a last resort after our original plans fell through. And they kindly found a table for us. I really appreciate that. On the other hand, the only word I can think of that describes the place is ... "Disheveled". That's all I've got... Disheveled. It was a bit messy, a little out of order and busy. The waitress was a very kind lady that really did do a good job in taking care of us. She was attentive, pleasant, and on the ball. The menu is extensive and the food was as you would expect from a diner/deli type restaurant. It was hot, substantial, filling, and arrived fast. There was a lot of it so we took half of it home. The coffee was very good and so was the ice cream. Considering that we ended up with a bill for only $51, I think we did all right. read more

Still a great place to eat. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Also carnivore options. Food is fresh and good. Special shout out to the fresh made fries and milkshakes. Sign in when you walk in on the pad. Wait can be long. It's worth it. Menu is big. Not hard to go thru. Honestly most everything is good. Pita sandwiches are good. That's what I get most of the time. Share the fries it's too much for 1 person. Place is bright and airy. Staff is friendly and efficient. Cost is about average. Use to be a bIt more cost effective but in today's world it's not quite as good. But still ok. Park in the parking lot for free across the street. Good food with lots of variety. After a 45 minute wait over lunchtime, we were seated. No reservations are accepted. The yogurt shakes were recommended by a friend, so all four of us got the raspberry yogurt shake. It was delicious being very creamy with a fresh yogurt taste. The fries are popular so we each order them. One to share would have been plenty! We all took some fries home. Service was very good. The restaurant is clean, and easily accessible. I had lunch at Tommy's yesterday it's usually good but something was off. There was a long piece of hair in my food this has been happening to me a lot lately at restaurants. The cooks had on caps but the hair was loose at the bottom may need to invest in hair nets. read more

Tommy's was recommended by a friend from Cleveland and we were excited to check it out. It has the vibes of an old school vegetarian spot -- eclectic granola decor, minimal frills, an extensive menu. The service was pretty fast and everyone was kind. The food is really where I was a bit disappointed. It was simple and tasty, but didn't feel particularly healthy or high quality. It was kinda like eating cafeteria / dining hall food, which is to say that ingredients were simply thrown together without that much thought or care. If I lived in the area it seems like a great spot for lunch from time to time. As a visitor, I enjoyed seeing it for the clear spot it has in the community's heart, but I wouldn't go expecting great food. read more

What a great lunch at Tommy's. This standout restaurant has been a go-to on Coventry, albeit in different locations, since the 1970s. When people think about where to go, Tommy's is always among the suggestions. It was packed today on a sunny mid-week day. It's easy to sign the waiting list with an eventual text to alert you that your table is ready. The menu is massive, including soups, Mediterranean fare, meat pies, and vegetarian dishes among many categories. I ordered the Lindsay, a spinach pie with tuna, cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes and sunflower seeds. Divine!! Friendly servers and great service made the lunchtime a great experience. read more

Protect Tommy's at all costs!! It is the most wholesome place for breakfast lunch or dinner. A never ending menu full of something for vegans and meat eaters alike! The inside is bright and has tall ceilings, plants live on the tall shelving and border every window. Such a happy vibe! Service can be hit or miss - I've had wonderful, quick meals and I've had some experiences that i found myself a little forgotten about. I try to give the benefit of the doubt though!! So the vibe of this place was so SICK!!!! It seemed to have a retro 60s style diner vibe and I totally was where for it. However, this veggie burger I got was the most disgusting veggie burger I've ever had. This was definitely not my first time to Tommy's. This was a much better experience than last time though so I adjusted my rating. We were in Coventry for the kids fest, so I expected a wait. We visited Tommy's because it was a short distance from University Circle and I have always been partial to Coventry. I have been to Tommy's many times before. We were lucky to sit in one of the more private booths, which was nice. The food was ok, but not like I remember. They definitely have an expansive menu and the menu items have fun names. I guess i now prefer smoother hummus. Tommy's hummus has more texture. The falafel salad seemed to be iceberg lettuce a few vegetables and a couple of pieces of falafel, so it was fair. The service was good and staff seemed friendly and engaging. Overall, it was a nice visit with my oldest but we would probably pick another place next time. read more

I love their hummus with the alfalfa sprouts, it's been my favorite thing to get there since I was a kid. I've been going there for 30+ years. Also, the best milkshake in town. I love getting it malted. The vibes are always immaculate, and the service is always impeccable. I've been here twice. First time I ordered the Keith meat pie, based on the waitresses suggestion (that it was a customer favorite). It's rare that I can't finish my meal, but I left half of it. I felt like I was eating overcooked hamburger meat in cardboard pastry. It was so bad I didn't want to return, but everyone else enjoyed theirs. Gave Tommy's a second chance and this time I ordered the chicken breast sandwich, which came out perfect - full of flavor and the chicken nice and moist. Definitely one of the best I've ever ordered and good enough to leave a 5 star review. I would go back just to have another one. read more

In the super cool Coventry neighborhood - you'd almost miss it if you're driving and don't know where it is, but when you know you know. Tommy's feels like a neighborhood place. Bright clean and welcoming. Delicious food with a surprising variety for ALL kinds of food preferences/dietary needs. I don't exclusively eat vegan food but I tried the vegan milkshake and it was just like a traditional milkshake. I love that the burgers aren't huge and aren't smashed. This spot is a hidden gem. Love their milkshakes. Always fast and friendly. They have a massive selection like a east coast Diner would have also have healthy selections. I have always loved their burger but last time it seemed different more greasy I had ordered well done. With steaks I like medium rare but with burgers I like it well done and it didn't come as ordered but one mistake over twenty visits isn't bad ratio :-) I like to sit at the counter and I like how clean they keep the milkshake area. read more

My first time back to Tommy's in about 10 years and it is just as wonderful as I remember it. Great selection of sandwiches with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Excellent fries. Wonderful shakes. This time I had The Colleen which had crispy falafel, bacon and veggies. And I couldn't go to Tommy's without a shake, so I got The Josh which was banana and cookie dough. The staff was wonderful. Very quick. We did have to wait a bit but once you checked in, they will send you a text when your table is ready so you can go check out the other stores nearby. read more

Tommy's was a fun first time restaurant experience in Cleveland. The serving sizes are large, the food is savory, and the options are unlimited. The staff is accommodating and chill, and willing to change in order to suit your personal needs. The inside was busy, but not loud, and the spacing between patrons was done perfectly. There was privacy if you were taking a date here, and it was cozy enough that you could make conversation comfortably, and I'm very busy environment without having to yell. Good food, good staff, good location. If you're in Cleveland, I suggest coming to visit for at least one of your meals. The menu runs the gamut of styles, ethnicities and healthy eating and not. They also cater to special diets like lactose free, vegan, and vegetarian. In my experience, here are the best things on the menu 1. The best homemade babaganush in town. An appetizer size is a meal at lunch 2. Falafel...spiced perfectly, fresh, delicious by themselves, in a wrap or in a salad 3. French fries. Order the..one order for 3 people...you'll understand 4. All salads are amazingly fresh. 5. Burgers...they are crazy good right off the griddle 6. Milkshakes are handmade and by far, the best in Greater Cleveland, either as part of a meal, as dessert, or to go. Everyone I know who have had serious dental work use Tommy's milkshakes as part of their recovery. The menu is huge and fun. The service is solid, I've never been disappointed. Lots of seating but can be crowded. During the Christmas holiday period the place is packed with college kids visiting home and their families. The only downside is the painfully small bathrooms.
