I recently attended a service and funeral here and was impressed with this cemetery, both the…read moregrounds and the staff. (Note that this a small, Jewish cemetery in Shoreline). I am used to the cemeteries on the east coast that cover hundreds of acres of land, containing many a winding road and pathway, where it is super easy to get lost when trying to find a specific plot, or group. I gave myself ample time coming here in order to find the group for the service I was attending. Imagine my surprise to find this cemetary so small: it is rectangular in shape, with one road in and one small parking lot, and one road exiting. There is absolutely NO WAY to get lost. And from the entrance and the parking lot, one can see the entire grounds and lay-out of this cemetary - the rectangular groups have the graves arranged in a rectalinear grid-like pattern, and the mausoleum is the only freestanding building there. Seriously, there is no way to get lost. So no need to come early, as I did, if you have a service to attend here! I was impressed with the cleanliness or orderliness of the grounds and the graves. It was all kept very nicely. The lawn was green and the small cemet-stone pathways, clean. Since I was so early, I spoke to a gentleman who worked there, who would be directing people to the service in the mausoleum. He was very genteel, respectful, polite and helpful. The mausoleum interior was small, too, but clean and warm (thankfully not cold!), and austere without being sterile. In other words, perfect for the function it served. There were pews for mourners (and I appreciated the fact that they had two bathrooms, too). This was my first experience at a Seattle-area funeral and I was impressed.

Recently this year, my son has passed away. When the time came, to lower his casket, the young man in charge DROPPED him in the hole. My family and friends were shocked. No words can explain how my wife and I felt. At a time of grief, the anger in my heart was unbearable. A few weeks later when I was visiting my son, another funeral event was in progress. During that time, the workers was mowing the lawn in that very section not giving a shit, constantly passing by, left and right like it's no ones business. The boldness of the staff here are careless, full of contempt, and clearly inexperienced. And during that whole time, the young man in charge (the one that dropped my son) was standing there watching the whole thing just waiting to get it over with. For the family and those who are resting here, I hope God finds a way to resolve this issue.

This cemetery houses the remains of some of the first settlers of the town of Snohomish. It is a sister cemetery to the GAR Cemetery in Seattle. Established in 1889, there are 200 Union soldiers buried here. The "newer" side of the cemetery is very well maintained. The older part of the cemetery has fallen into disrepair. There are overturned and uprooted gravestones and vegetation overgrowth. The huge monument that stands in the middle of the cemetery is intricately carved, down to the hollow eyes that stare you down. A few of the locals say that when you drive or walk by the cemetery, the eyes follow you... Not scary at all looking at them up close. Dad has been in an unmarked grave for over a month and a half. Not even a temporary placard while the headstone is shipped in. Mike Betts wants us to think it's the funeral home that's responsible for placing a temporary placard, which isn't true. The headstone was made in advance, it's been sitting in a warehouse since the 1980s. Mike Betts can't remember our recent meeting when he ordered the delivery, and has no shipping data at all. We got a check in the mail because we were overcharged on their services. The check was written payable to my Dad. Wouldn't the cemetery know he is dead and he can't cash checks??? Now it's another errand to fix their latest screw up. As a grieving family, we thought Holyrood cemetery was going to handle Dad's burial arrangements with grace and precision. We are disappointed. We had to call again to ask about the headstone delivery and the gentleman who answered the phone was so confused about their record keeping system, and he asked how to spell my Dad's name three times!
