I meant to write this review a month ago, after the great service received on my BMW i3. Car was out of warranty recently and I wasn't prepared to pay dealership prices any more. I searched indie shops that are experienced in German makes and in particular the i3 model. Needed the annual service for the REX motor and some other troubleshooting. All needs resolved same day and pricing & communication was A+. Great experience, owner was responsive and communication was great from start to finish! I will definitely be taking my lil clown car (i3) back for future service needs. Prices very competitive & reasonable. Manny, you come across as a bmw wizard and a professional, yet you do bad business. It's a shame to see how you take people on a ride for their money. I question your expertise and experience. You charge people your hourly rate for labor, yet don't deliver what needs to be done. I have contacted the Bureau of Automotive Repairs and they will further investigate this fraudulent auto repair. I tried to reason with Manny, and explain that if he charges $110 an hour for labor and is a "certified professional" than why does my vehicle have the same issues post "repair", that I indeed brought vehicle in the first place. I am sure the state board will look into verification of license of anyone working at that facility; as maybe they have "helpers" who are not licensed to work on vehicles. I caught him in a few lies, and as I was further trying to explain more in detail, he walked away and said "take me to court" read more

I will start by saying that this shop is probably ok under basic maintenance such as oil changes and checking your tires. But I had issues here that would cause me to not return. Here are few reasons I would not recommend Manny's shop. I originally went in to have my AC fixed on my car. I know my car has a lot of miles so I wasn't going to be surprised if the AC compressor finally gave up. When I met Manny he was very nice and seemed knowledgeable about my car. After a day of my car being in the shop I got a call from Manny. He informed me he was having trouble diagnosing why my old compressor wasn't receiving proper power. I took it upon myself to look on the internet to find issues that he was describing to me and relied the information back. At the end of the day we decided to swap out the compressor and he told me the connection from the wiring harness to the compressor was dirty and when he cleaned it he was getting the the voltage he was looking for. Also please note every time he called it felt like I was talking with a lawyer. Because he would constantly talk about his time and the extra money it's going to cost just to diagnose the issue. So with that as a customer juggling work and looking up issues for him I felt drain. When I picked my car up I was pleased with the fact my AC was working again. The experience was not cheap ether the total cost was $1,288.68. But I did leave feeling relatively happy I found a new shop I could trust to bring my car to. Until I realized Manny claims he stands behind his work but doesn't follow through. 3 Months after my AC was repaired I was experiencing the same issue. My AC wasn't blowing cold air and nothing was happening. I called Manny and told him what was going on. So the following day I dropped off my car at the shop. Keep in mind I live in Echo Park and his shop isn't necessarily down the street. The next day Manny calls me and explains to me that there is a leak in the system and it's completely empty. He quoted $385.00 just to diagnose it or more depending on the time it takes. My response was before you replaced the compressor the system was charged and had no leaks. When you replace a compressor common practice is you replace all O rings (those are seals that go between the hose and compressor) charge the system and check for leaks. Could you charge the system, put some dye that detects leaks and check if anything that you did was the issue? He seemed so upset that I would even suggest such a thing. I thought that request would go in line with backing up your work before you speculate its something else. Our conversation ended up with him saying he wants me to pick up my car and he doesn't want to work on it anymore. I even told him prior that I would meet him halfway on the price he quoted. Luckily I have many friends in the car business and received great contact and advice. I called The M Shop that I was referred to and they were very nice. They happened to be so busy the recommended another shop called IKONIC. I gave them a ring and shared my story and that were so understanding and were happy to bring my car in and get it fixed. It also made me realize there are many car shops that are clean but don't judge a book by its cover. Also don't be a victim of untrustworthy claims and consider other shops before you visit this one. here are my answers to Manny's (owner of the shop) response: Manny: When you originally came in to have your compressor replaced on your BMW with nearly 220000 miles you refused to pay to have your vehicle diagnosed, you strictly asked us to replace the compressor because you knew for certain that the compressor was bad. Me: My car had 200,455 miles on it. I did not refused to pay to have my vehicle diagnosed. He said he will diagnose my car and if I decided to proceed to repair he will roll the cost of the diagnoses into the cost of repair. At the end of the day Manny told me the Compressor was bad because he did an isolated tested and it wouldn't turn on. Manny: Now three months pass and you come in with an A/C leak expecting me to fix your problem at no charge? Not to mention a completely unrelated issue. Me: how was what I'm bring my car back for unrelated? Its all about getting my AC fixed. Manny: My guys spent several additional hours fixing your a/c at no charge only to find out that oil got into your engine wiring harness due to all the oil leaks Me: News to me. He told me on the phone he was the only one working on my car. Manny: same assumption you had about your compressor which turned out to be incorrect. Me: He confirmed my compressor was broken because he did an isolated tested and it wouldn't turn on. Manny: From our prior conversation it's seams like you've been to several shops and had a very similar experience where the shop refused to work on your vehicle for similar reasons. Manny is AWESOME! I was referred there because of a disagreement between another mechanic and the BMW dealership. He was trusted to give an un biased opinion. Finding Manny was totally worth all the tears earlier in the day (mechanics going head to head, yelling and screaming on the phone. Then taking it out on you is not easy). I was sent to his shop. I have now found my new mechanis. His knowledge and enthusiasm about my 2004 330ci was very impressive. His compassion, integrity, and sincerity are such a rarity and a relief. I have been looking for a BMW mehanic for so long now. Its been horrible. Being a woman, going to a mechanic is just plain difficult. When I walk in to a shop they see dollar signs or a potential date. A lot of the time giving me subpar service because I wouldn't know the difference. True, I am not a mechanic. I have had many unresolved issues and return visits. So, I ask a questions. Now I'm stupid, a nuances and a big bulls eye for more "extensive" repairs. Out of frustration, I end up at the dealer. There, I just hand over all my credit cards. I get completely and thoroughly ripped off. But, it's done right and with style. So, finding Manny is just a relief. He is the whole package. Manny talks in terms that anyone can understand. If I ask a question, I didn't feel ridiculous (His patience is award winning). He took the time to show me my car on the lift educating me on what was going on. Even went over the computer diagnostics, past and recent codes. Secured the battery connection. When I described a brake issue, he had me come in the next morning. He did a brake flush (this was part of the original problem). All of that, everything, at no charge. When I do need service, his prices are very fair. His professionalism and attitude will be worth every penny and more. There is a waiting area. It has a big window so you can see your car being worked on. Arthur is his assistant. He is so kind, talented and quick to answer any question. It's a small shop. A two car shop. But, it's super clean, spacious, and organized. I dont feel like my car is going to hit another car or a wall. If you haven't gotten my point yet, I highly recommend Manny. CHARACTER counts !! As they say, you can tell a lot about a man's character by the way he treats you, when you are of no benefit to him. I was helping a friend purchase a used vehicle. We wanted to get a professional inspection prior to purchase. Based on other Yelp reviews, Bavarian Built Motors was the #1 choice. Low and behold, it turns out that the vehicle had a Pre-Purchase Inspection already conducted at Bavarian Built Motors by a prospective buyer who didn't end up buying the vehicle. Calling Manny out of the blue, I wasn't sure what to expect, and whether he would even provide details since I didn't pay for his inspection service. Not only did Manny NOT charge me ... Manny was VERY helpful, friendly, and super detailed about the issues he had identified. He even provided his opinion whether these issues would be major enough to walk away from the purchase. Manny spent over 10 minutes of his own time over the phone with me, not even knowing who I was, where I lived, and whether I would even give him any future business ... just a total random stranger on the phone. He might have even talked to me longer, but he said he had a client waiting for him, and didn't want to keep the client waiting. Unfortunately, there have been other Yelp reviews on establishments where I would scratch my head afterwards as to why they got 4 - 5 stars. The Yelp reviews on Bavarian Built Motors are spot on. Manny is a rock-star. Based on my initial interaction with him, I believe he would be honest and reliable with my own car. Unfortunately, I don't live in the area to give him my business. But I felt like others in the area could benefit from my experience with Manny. I don't know that this place is still a legit business. The last four times I needed to take my car in, I called, left messages and never got a call back. Not even a "hey we're too busy to take your car", just... nothing. Bizarre. editing my review to note that I did email this place in addition to calling, and still got no response. Strange that the owner has time to leave passive aggressive responses on Yelp though. Manny is the man! He helped fix my bmw 335i when I was having issues with the car and had concerns with the safety of the vehicle. I told him about my concerns and he was able to squeeze me in. Within the next morning I had already received a call that the car was ready for pickup, I was very happy to know the turnaround was so quick and the work was done right. When I first dropped the vehicle off he told me step by step what they would be doing to correct the problem and it really made me trust his expertise working with these cars. Another thing you will notice is how clean the shop is, you won't find even a bolt on the floor. I explained what I needed and he quickly set up an appointment for the next day.I dropped my car off and an hour later I received a call that my car was ready. Manny went out of his way to explain issues my car had,so I could take my car to the dealer before my warranty expires. I own a 2009 E60 M5, possibly the most exciting BMW sedan ever made, not to mention the S85 motor. It's also a car that needs to be looked after, and Manny has earned my trust. If he can handle an E60 M5, then he can handle any other BMW. I am very busy professional, I don't have time for nonsense, up sells, and bogus diagnostics, if you need a no BS bimmer mechanic, Bavarian Built is the place, enough Just brought my E60 M5 in to get the motor oil/filter changed along with the SMG transmission oil and rear differential oil. Manny did a great job on the car. Can in mid morning and car was ready by 6pm that same day with fresh fluids in motor, transmission, and rear differential. I met Manny the owner and his colleague, I want to say this he is by far one of the most nicest guys ever! Manny was super professional and helped me diagnose my problem. He did not hassle me to get it done at his shop and give me excuses on why I shouldn't do it myself. Instead he said if I have time to do it I should. I'm so happy I found Manny at Bavarian Built Motors! I have been traveling to Venice, CA to have my 2008 328i serviced. I really like my BMW mechanic in Venice. It was the travel time to his shop that was not convenient; since I reside in West Hollywood and work in Pasadena. I found Manny on Yelp this week. I pulled up at his shop at 8:15 am and was impressed! Manny has a very clean shop and an awesome waiting area. Plus, he has free wi-fi, for his customers. I was able to work while he is working on my car. The other nice touches are he offers free coffee or water. I was able to have one my doggies Sinclair with me in my lap too while I was waiting on my car. Manny did a through check of my car. He had me come in and walk underneath my car, pointed out a few things I will need in the near future. Plus he made me aware of of a few hoses, belts, and tires which needed. I really like his approach and would highly recommend him to any BMW driver if you own your BMW and your warranty doesn't apply to your service any longer don't go to the dealer come and see Manny. I have a 2007 BMW 335i. I brought my car to Manny to check out because my car's cooling fan was extemely loud. He diagnosed my car with needing a water pump and thermostat. He was very courteous and friendly showing me what was needed for my car and cost associated with the fix. His professionalism was off the charts. I took my car back a couple weeks later for Manny to work on in which he was able to finish the repairs in one day. While he had my car he throughly inspected and checked everything else underneath and the engine to give me a thumbs up with a clean bill of health. I called around to various independant shops around Burbank and Manny was by far the best price with being professional. Also, his garage is immaculant and spotless. I will need brakes soon and will be returning to Manny to work on my car....He used to work at BMW so his factory trained knowledge of the cars is awesome...I am happy to have a local BMW independant shop near by! Manny is my new go-to guy for all service and repairs on my bimmer. Even when some replacement parts failed, he took the time to replace them right away and fix any other random small problems free of charge. Dude takes pride in his business, and that goes a long way with me. His BMW knowledge is pretty top notch and his prices are fair, if not better than most shops. These cars can be temperamental but can last forever if you treat them right. Sometimes that gets pricey! Trust and Honesty are not usually associated with an auto shop. I've been to my fair share of auto shops and never stick around because I always get gauged by prices or trying to be suckered into some type of repair I don't need.
