This review is specifically for the Prinz Regenten Torte. My friend got two to go, including one she so generously blessed me with. HOLY CRUDMUFFINS, y'all. Stop what you are doing right now and go try this cake! I'm not even a huge sweets person, but this chocolate coated cake was divine. It was so fresh and flavorful. One of the best cakes I've ever had in my life. The chocolate cream in between the layers of moist cake was heavenly. It was so delicious chilled, allowing the chocolate coating on the outside to be hard. This will live on in my dreams. These picture in indoor lighting sadly fail to capture the masterpiece that is this cake. I will be bringing my family to this restaurant soon for sure and will update my experience about their in house service at that time, but based on what my friend has shared, this is THE PLACE to get Bavarian food. I think our personal preference is eating hearty good once in a while so it suited our cravings for the night. The baked brie was soooo well melted inside and had a lovely crunchy exterior. It went well with the fruits and roll. My partner enjoyed the sausage, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut altogether (as in each bite had a bit of each). They tasted better together than as individual items. The split pea soup was very smokey in flavor, potentially due to the meat pieces. A bit salty but overall tasty. You people with the recent 4 and 5-star reviews have no palates. This place is about as far from a good German restaurant as Mars is from sustaining human life. First of all the noise level is unholy. Yes there was an extremely large celebration taking place the evening we chose to eat there (a Tuesday night, go figure!) They should have private rooms for those and not subject the public to that kinda crap. The main dining room was so loud you couldn't hold a conversation, even at the booths up front. About the food. It used to be very good, especially right after it opened, when they were hungry to create a business. It was good even 15 years ago. But this last visit was just plain awful. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel (pork) with Spaetzle and the mixed Salad. The mixed salad, normally delicious, was hit with so much dill as to be overwhelming and inedible. The Spaetzle was dry, like it had been sitting in a steam tray all day. The Schnitzel was super thin, over-cooked, and tasted like bread crumb. The gravy was thin and tasted like flour. I had 3 bites and called it a complete loss. Don't get me started on the prices they charge. $14 for the mixed salad?! What? $36 for the entree?! You've got to be kidding me. Maybe if they reduce the portion size to something a normal human would eat in one sitting they could improve?? Came to this place on June 20th after the World Cup game was over and I was very excited to go for my first time for my birthday. We arrived at 6:15pm looking for a table for 2. We made the mistake of not making reservations but we were willing to wait. We asked reception if we could go to bar and grab a beer while we waited. They said it would be a 45 minute wait for a table and they said it would be mostly standing room at the bar. We went to the bar area and I stood at the bar for 15 minutes to no avail (bartenders just ignored me) and then my boyfriend tried and stood another 10 minutes waiting for service. A customer having a beer sitting down even tried to help me out by pointing to me and bartender still didn't look at me and told that customer she was too busy. She looked him and talked to him but not one word to me. The bar cleared out and we sat down at bar for another 20 minutes and still no one behind the bar even looked at us. The customers that were there before we arrived were getting served? We gave up and went back to reception and they said we were still 11 tables away from seating we had been waiting around hour at the point. Assuming table service was probably the same as bar service, we decided to leave and not give it another hour plus of a wait. I sent a email a week ago asking if the establishment actually served customers at the bar in case we made some mistake in their operations. Which would be very weird at a bar section of a restaurant. But I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. They never responded. Ultimately, I have never felt more invisible nor more uncomfortable and disrespected in the way we were treated. I gave them a chance to explain and so id say they don't need any more customers, including myself. read more

But both times I went-the service SUCKED It took Forever to get our food. I came in a party of five for dinner and we ended up being there for almost 3 hours. We were so eager to leave. I came here with family for my birthday. The food was great. We really enjoyed the accordion player. It was a Saturday night and was incredibly busy. We made a reservation four days in advance for a special 70th birthday celebration, confirmed all the details, and even called an hour before to reconfirm our 6pm reservation. Despite all that, we weren't seated until 6:35pm. Our server didn't arrive until 7pm, and food wasn't served until nearly 7:50pm. We had chosen this restaurant hoping for a memorable evening, but instead were placed in a back room with no music and an awkward atmosphere. One of our guests has a medical condition that prevents them from standing for long periods, and the delay in seating was not only inconsiderate--it was unsafe. Our mother had a special medical release for this birthday outing, and we drove over 30 minutes to be there. We even arrived early to set up table decorations, which the staff couldn't accommodate. The service was painfully slow, water glasses went unfilled, and no one offered any kind of apology or discount for the inconvenience. The bathroom was far from our table, adding another layer of discomfort for our elderly guests. Had we been seated on time, we would have gladly spent more--but the entire experience felt like an afterthought to the staff. This was supposed to be a joyful celebration. Instead, it felt like we were forgotten. I wouldn't recommend this place for any special occasion--or any occasion at all. read more

Well I certainly didn't get the memo they have moved to much better place. Its been years since we ate here and enjoyed their new location. We called ahead for reservations just in case. Much the same look and feel as old location but so much better. And the trains still run on time along the wall. Great menu and service. Many tables for groups and a bigger bar. Good for them. Most authentic Bavarian cuisine in North Texas. The schnitzel is amazing and flavorful, the sides are excellent and add a great variety of flavor to the dish. The beer is always on tap and there's a large variety to choose from if you are into German Beers. The service is excellent, the hosts are always understanding and kind. The ambiance is very family oriented with live music and small trains going around on the walls. This establishment is outstanding and I hope to come here often! read more

From the amazing french onion soup to the fried brie dishes - this place is where it's at. Took my German lady friend here as she was craving some cuisine from her homeland. We were both initially excited to go there. Walked in and were seated by the hostess at a dirty table that had to be wiped off. Immediately had pretzels and German mustard brought out as a complementary appetizer with drinks. They do have a good beer selection, including Bitburger. We ordered Jägerschnitzel and Rouladen with Spätzle. The food was alright, no complaints, and the server Tormey was good. The portions were probably small for the price at nearly $20 a plate. I ordered Apfel Strudel and my lady friend Got Bienenstich cake to go. Took forever to get the deserts, Strudel was okay, nothing to write home about. I've had way better at Muenster, TX. Took forever to get the check. Once we paid the check my lady friend wanted to check out some of the meats and cheeses they sold at the deli by the front door. Stood there for 20 minutes waiting on someone with a pulse to help us. Hostess was gone nowhere to be found, could hear people talking behind the deli wall. No one wanted to help us. Finally got a woman who didn't know any of the prices of anything. After "going to check on it" she comes back 10 minutes later and informs us the Limburger cheese and liverwurst are only sold by the ounce as appetizer and a loaf would cost about $60 if we were to buy it outright. Give me a break. Total ripoff for people that don't know any better. Was excited to go and felt confident in the 30+ year history of them being in business but ended up being pretty disappointing overall. Wouldn't recommend. Past experience at BG, not so gut. We were sat at a table next to a big top, party of 10-that kept our waitress too busy for our party of 4. Never got rolls, refills, food was served cold and sat under food lights a little too long. Food was overpriced for the flavor too. Bier and ambiance are excellent as usual. Entertainment is always enjoyable and live hearing the accordion. I will go back and sit in bier garten next time too savor authentic Bavarian bier. Overall Bavarian grill is charging 5 star prices for 3 star food. I understand food is expensive and imports are high as well. But, bring the quality up to your prices and we will happily pay. We spent over $300 for mediocre food. The sauerkraut was rancid brown, and sour smelling-not in a gut way. Our waitress was non-attentive, and too busy to focus on us. I asked for bread numerous times because I wanted my friend to sample Bavarian brotchen-once it arrived (after our meals) she was too full. We go often to BG and left disappointed this time. Maybe just an off day for cooks. We felt stupid for spending lots of money on a meal that was mediocre at best. Go for the entertainment and beer, enjoy the music, and decor of Germany. read more

Can't wait to go back and get it again!!! Grilled Sausages "ala-carte": It's not on the menu but you can order sausages on the side. They have a fabulous wild bore sausage with excellent traditional spices and a gentle maple profile. I also got the brautworst (perfect)! We were excited to find authentic German food right here in Plano. After spending some time in Germany we missed the cold beer, atmosphere and food for sure! Bavarian grill did not disappoint! At first I was shocked at the prices for entree's and we usually split it anyway and an appetizer. When the food came it was enough for 2 people at least! We couldn't finish it, so yeah, just like Germany. They won't let you leave thirsty or hungry. Pork schnitzel with recommended sides was amazing. Bread was awesome and the atmosphere was very nice. We saw some old beer bottles we recognized from pubs around Germany tucked away in little shelves. Lots of nostalgia. We have had the Black Forest Cake in the Black Forest and have made it before so the bar was high, they hit it. I highly recommend it and we will be back. read more

I've been dining at Bavarian Grill since the early 90s (that's over 30 years if you're counting), but we had an experience last night that just didn't sit well with me. Let me first say that the food, as always, is very tasty, and it's not that we're going to stop dining here. About a week ago, I had made reservations for 16 for my wife's surprise birthday party at Bavarian Grill. One of the attendees had baked a homemade cake for the event, and brought it. Upon seeing the cake, not only was my friend informed that she could not serve it at the table, a bag was brought for her to put it in and she was asked to remove it from view. I've attended plenty of events like this where the host restaurant will gladly accept and will even freely provide plates and forks for these functions. Again, we had 16 people, so we brought some significant business to the establishment; I feel like being able to serve our cake wasn't too much to ask. So, moving forward, we'll continue to dine here as a couple and in small groups, but we'll never host a large event here, and we'll encourage others to find another restaurant to host such gatherings. Our party spent in excess of $700 on our appetizers and entrees (which, again, were delicious as always), but nary a dessert was ordered. This is poor form from a Plano institution and restaurant treasure. read more

A place like Bavarian Grill is not usually on my radar. Yet, we came for a family dinner on a casual Friday night, on the earlier side. We didn't wait for a table, and were seated quickly. The restaurant has grown over the years and is German-themed throughout, with live cultural music regularly. The music is accordion-style - and great for kids. They even take requests.! While they don't really offer cocktails, they have a very extensive beer list as well as many wines. Our server, who had just completed training the day prior, was really on point, knowledgeable, helpful, and pretty great through the entire experience. Now, onto the food: Being someone who prefers food on the healthier side, I found a grilled salmon on the menu, which was cooked to perfection. It's usually topped with a chive butter, which I asked to be put on the side. To keep it in line with my fitness goals, I stuck with the vegetables medley and boiled potatoes (instead of mashed). The escargot appetizer, served in actual snail shells, was delectable. And the free bread, both regular and pumpernickel was great, too. The table also got French Onion soups, potato pancakes, schnitzels; and sides of red cabbage. Everything was standard overall, they enjoyed their meals but I didn't have much of a taste. For dessert, we got a slice of the chocolate cream sponge cake torte, which was rich but decadent, along with a few scoops of vanilla ice cream. We were celebrating a birthday, too, so the staff came out with cowbells to sing Happy Birthday! It was truly an experience, and would for sure go back next time my group is craving a schnitzel dinner (okay okay, I may still get the grilled salmon anyway lol). read more

Went to a friend's birthday party here on Saturday. This is his favortie place to go. I had not been to the new location since they moved and was truly shocked at how big the new place was! We were seated near the live music and this is always a treat as you get to see children and adults do their Chicken Dance with hats the musician provides. Once we all placed our orders, our food came out more quickly than expected and as always, things were yummy. I had the elk dish and Dunkn beer that my friend David helped my pick out. Sabrina our server was fabulous, super attentive and never letting a water glass go empty. Kudos to the owners on keeping the decor and to the staff for making it an enjoyable evening for David and all his guests. read more
