One of my favorite spots for lunch. I just celebrated my birthday here, and we had a great time. They were busy, but that didn't impact the service. Our server was great (I wish I would have gotten her name). She was so on top of things! She was incredibly kind to our pup that we brought, too. The food was great (highly recommend the chili), and the prices are super fair. We had a large party, and everything came out great for everyone. The server was so on top of things that she knew what we needed before we even asked for it. Our drinks stayed filled, and she made sure everyone had to go boxes for the cakes we brought. Iv been frustrated about this place for two basic reasons. 1. The giant goblets for beer is too heavy and annoying. 2. They pretend to be a bbq place but never have it available. If you can overcome those two things, you can enjoy visiting here. The outdoor patio is best in Plano. The service is great too. We've been coming here with our kids since it's opening. It's really the only patio option in hot summers with an abundance of fans and misters. First time here and was okay, but nothing great. Beer comes in these large goblets so are hard to hold and too slippery on warm days. But beer did come out after 20 seconds of ordering it. Nachos were so filling and each chip is loaded with brisket and cheese. Came with generous sides of guacamole, sour cream, and pico. Definitely worth the price. Atmosphere was comfortable with so many trees and fans that we weren't even sweating on this hot day. Tables are far enough spaced where I felt like I wasn't eavesdropping. My main reason for wanting to try this place was so I could see cute dogs, but despite the place being busy, only saw two dogs. Visited this location of Katy trail ice house for the first time in Plano, TX felt very similar to the Katy trail ice house in uptown. Upon arrival they took us to a small table away from TV and the crowd however we asked if we could be moved to a table more centered close to a TV as there was a football game going on and we were able to move. We ordered the cheese fries with everything on it which is one of personal favorites and two summer beers again another favorite of mine. The ambience of the place was cool and I was surprised to see how massive this establishment was offering many seating options. I have now been here twice on 2 separate trips to the Dallas area. I will say both times by burger has been cooked perfectly, seasoned well and messy. The way I like it. This time I tried their charro beans too and wow, those were delicious. They do have a kick to them too. This time we noticed that they definitely expanded. The place is HUGE! The thing I like about this place, and that makes it a destination worth investigating is the MASSIVE patio. It's kind of magical! It just goes on and on with twinkle lights in the trees and a courtyard and a raised deck. I tried a sangria, which was good - ice cold and not too sweet. Downhill from there. I remembered back months ago having a brisket sandwich with friends on the patio. I was in the area, an area I'm in often, and decided to grab a couple of brisket sandwiches, two tater tot orders and one French fries order, my youngest son lives on fries. The portions were large on the tots and fries. I wish I would have known, there was no need to buy two. However, my sons and I started eating the tots and the fries and after a few we all decided they were dry, cold, and probably the worst tots and fries we've ever had. The brisket sandwiches were just ok. I spent $68 on 2 brisket sandwiches and tots and fries we threw in the trash. It took me three tries through the day to finish the brisket sandwich. My son wouldn't even touch his. I've never felt so guilty in literally throwing away $68 in the trash. This really bothered me. Needless to say, I will not be going back. I asked if we could sit outside in their beer garden and have a beer while we wait and they said no, because we'd have to have to different waiters. My family typically loves this place. We've been twice a month for the past three years. We've seen patrons throwing up at their tables and unruly dogs being violent with their owners and the surrounding table be treated better than we were tonight. We were with our best friends who have a two year old who is going through potty training and sitting outdoors on the top section. They had taken him to the restrooms four times and then he finally had an accident near the table. Not a big deal. Soon thereafter he needed to go again and he went to the corner by the trees and used the restroom. This was not next to any other customer or table. 15 minutes later the manager and a bouncer came up to us to inform us that we had to leave. Keep in mind that we've seen on multiple occasions dogs using the restroom and also becoming violent with neighboring tables and no action taking place from management. We've been patient and understanding in the past knowing that things happen. Tonight, the manager came over and kicked us out and said, "no big deal". If it wasn't a big deal, why were we kicked out? African Americans beware!! My friends came in town and I wanted to try this place as I had been to the icehouse on Katy Trail before. I called ahead of time to check when they closed the kitchen because we were starving. They close at 2AM on Fridays per Google but they said that their kitchen closes at 1AM. Great. My two friends and I come to the restaurant at 9:30PM. There is a sign that says "seat yourselves." So we go and we sit at a table outside on the patio next to a table of 3 people eating. 15 minutes pass and no server comes to greet us but they are still serving the table next to us. We asked the people at the table next to us if we were wrong about seating ourselves and they confirm that you're supposed to seat yourself and then a server will come by. 20 minutes pass and we still have not been served. We end up moving to another table on the first floor of the outdoor area where there's a lots of different tables of people drinking and eating. Surely we just sat in the wrong spot, right? We go and sit down. 15 minutes goes by. Finally a server comes by and says "we closed this section and we will not be serving you" all the while, putting up signs saying this section is closed. Those signs were not up when we sat down. At this point, I look around, and the only difference between us and the people at the tables next to us actually being served like human beings at a restaurant is that two of us were black. So we kindly get up and go to another restaurant. My money is just as good as anyone else's. But if this restaurant has a problem serving black people, that is their prerogative. Whatever. We will spend our money elsewhere. But I am leaving this review as a warning to other black people that, in my opinion based on our experience, they are discriminatory. And to the staff who ignored us all night like we were trash, please challenge yourselves unlearn your biases. The server said "sorry we are way under staffed" I ordered ribs because I thought I would splurge this weekend. The beans were amazing coupled with the cream corn, but the ribs where basically cooked bones with barely any meat on them. I ordered another drink, and when I got the bill it was obvious the server wasn't sorry after charging me $18.89 per drink along with the ribs totaling $70. I really struggle to decide what to get because it's all so good, even the salad. The fries are a must! The one downside of the menu is they need more dessert options. While we've enjoyed drinks outside at the original Katy Trail Ice House, this was our first time at the Outpost and trying their food. We found it to be a great experience. My husband and I ordered and shared several things to try a variety of items. We started with a cup of the venison chili. It had great flavor and we loved how it was served with Fritos. We then enjoyed the 3 Meat Combo Plate and selected the Chopped Wagyu Brisket, Sliced Turkey and Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage. Let's just say there wasn't anything leftover to take home as we enjoyed it all. We were struggling to pick a favorite out of everything we ordered. The meat was tender and the turkey had great flavor. I found I didn't want or need to use the provided BBQ sauce as I was enjoying the meat on its own. The Sausage had great flavor and didn't pack too much heat for me. I really liked the chopped brisket vs. sliced. The platter came with coleslaw and beans. We found the chopped brisket in the beans was great together and eating with a spoon! We loved the coleslaw. It had a creamy look to the dressing, yet with a tang of vinegar to give it great flavor. We sat outside on a sunny 80 degree day with no humidity. There was good shade and they have fans with misters when it is hot and heaters when it is cooler. You'll find TVs all around and there was plenty of football to take in. They have an indoor seating area as well and found on a nice day, we all wanted to be outside. They are currently adding on to their outdoor seating area so there will be more room for us to enjoy for future visits! Been here several times to meet up with friends! Always worth the meet and greet. You can sit inside or outside. Both are nice since the outside is shaded by trees. It's still Texas so you be the judge. They do have lots of water misters!! One of my issues with this place is the parking. The parking is limited and the parking lot has been torn up for some time. My understanding is that Katy Trail is expanding. They do have valet parking. Also, If you don't pay attention this establishment has the custom of adding 20% to the tab!!! This is regardless of the number of people in your group. This tab could end up costing a lot more then you expected! Everyone has to make money..... but I think the way of how they represent/present the bill is deceptive. 20% is more then fair for the work the servers and bartenders do. This I agree with! I think the idea of being "told" I have to pay 20% is off putting. I give it willingly, its one of those catch 22 things. FYI: You have to present a card up front. Otherwise, you don't eat or drink. Period!! You can pay cash at the end of your visit. However, you still gotta supply them a debt card. Or have a friend sponsor you.... Not much good to say. The Mexican guy behind the bar should not be taking orders. He got my order wrong that I ate at the bar and the patty melt to go was a hockey puck and included mustard which I said to omit. I believe he hears everything as something you want instead of don't want on an order. Poor excuse for a grilled chicken sandwich too. Small chicken breast w nothing else but a smattering of chopped lettuce and Mayo. Pitiful for the price. And battered out-of-the bag French fries is just laziness. This place has gone down hill. I've been loyal to Katy Trail Ice House for years, but today was beyond disappointing. I arrived at 12:30 PM and over nearly three hours I absolutely only had one and a half drinks while eating a brisket plate. I was at the small bar by the Shiner wall, chatting with others around me. The manager, whom I had never spoken to before, a short man with a hat and mustache, cut me off, claiming I was slurring and commenting on my eyes. He did not disclose his name when we asked to speak with him and understand why I was cut off. Our server, with blue eyes and blonde hair, can confirm what she served. Being publicly misjudged was embarrassing and unnecessary. I will not be coming back and neither will the business I've brought here. read more
