Came for 2 nights stayed for 5!! Enough said! No really wonderful, dog friendly, people friendly, clean, comfortable, felt like home, hiking trails, parks, lakes, great food on property, awesome awesome customer service! From housekeeping to the wait staff to the front desk and all around this wonderful, peaceful peace of heaven we are already planning our next trip. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed around the clock. Let me tell you all that everyone who works here is a state employee and not part of a multinational hotel chain!! Pride screams from here. Our golden doodle karma came with us and had a great time meeting new people and making new friends just like we did!! We made so many new friends, it was nothing I had yet experienced! Most of the people we met were repeat guests! We were part of a couples wedding, part of a huge cousins club reunion, one after another of lifetime memories and new lifetime friends. We went as strangers and left as friends. I really can't find a way to say how I feel as we drive home today. Sad that it is over for now and so happy for things to come. If you can, come to Cacapon State Park Resort in West Virginia and stay at the resort or rent a cottage with your family and take in the wonderful wonderland that is this place!! read more

Found a hidden gem Very beautiful spot for drinks and snacks. Next trip we'll definitely try out dinner. Service was excellent even though the bar was busy. You must venture out to the outdoor seating that overlooks the park and golf course. Wings were top notch crispy with just enough sauce. The cauliflower bites were delicious with just enough seasoning. Relaxing place all the tables around us were enjoying their food as well. read more

WV is beautiful. The resort and park here are quite pleasant. Cabin was comfortable, and breakfast in the resort building is reasonably priced. It's not gourmet but it works. I do hope they'll procure stronger coffee. Get the pancakes. A lot of views can be enjoyed from the lodge. The weight room and pool are on the small size. Yet the golf course is phenomenal. Family friendly and nice employees. Will be going back here. It's a nice break from the big city. read more

Lots to offer My kids and I love visiting state parks. They have so much to offer in one area. On a recent trip we passed right by this state park and decided to stop for a couple hours to stretch our legs and explore. They have great directional signs to tell you which way to go and what the park offers. We started off my heading to the swimming lake. They charge a small fee to swim at the lake. There is a small beach area. The bathroom/ shower house is very old and shows the original charm of the park. There are also several areas to hike from this parking lot. They have another section with basketballs courts, playground, nature center and pavilion. Also more hiking paths. The lodge area was recently renovated and really nice. There is a pool, hot tub, spa, restaurant, and outdoor area overlooking a golf course. The park also had a list of weekend activities to keep families entertained. Worth a stop if in the area. read more

We visited Cacapon resort State Park lodge and restaurant last night. Beautiful facility and being a Tuesday night was not very busy at all. Only two or three tables were occupied at 8 o'clock PM The menu is not overcrowded, but they have some great selections and a nightly special I believe. I really like this park. It has a very nice lake for swimming and boating, breathtaking scenery, nature shows and magic shows, and so much more. The lodge features a Dover Impulse elevator and a very nice game room as well as a magic show, and there are rustic cabins to rent as well. The rustic cabins have fireplaces, which are very useful because even during the summer it can get cold in the park. It's been a very long time since I have been here, I was only a kid when I came here, but hopefully, at some point, I can come back here. read more

Spent the weekend in April. We loved it. Clean, comfortable, well maintained. Beautiful setting, 15 min drive to Berkeley Springs to take a mineral bath and then come back to Cacapon Resort spa and have a massage with Greg ( ask for deep disuse massage, you will come out a reborn person). One disappointed was the restraunt. The service was excellent but the food..... don't go for those daily specials - terrible ( especially if it is a prime rib), if you have to eat there, choose from an appetizer menu , basic green salad is good, but not the main course. We tried prime rib and Alfredo spaghetti with scallops. Both were terrible and we left most of it. Onion soup was barely ok, chicken wings from the appetizer menu was good ( in comparison with everything else). Excellent service but terrible food at the restaurant. Lukewarm service of the hotel (reception) staff and excellent quality of the lodge accommodation. (Go figure). The spa at the lodge was a perfect middle - very good service, excellent massage ( by Greg -the best!) and very nice and clean spa setting. If you can, go midweek. Too crowded on the weekends but midweek is perfect. read more

Thank you WV for improving such a gem. Great golfing, hiking trails that are dog friendly, beach area, basketball courts, pavilions, and the lodge is very comfortable. The restaurant has four outdoor tables that are dog friendly. Food is solid... rice bowl with salmon, beet salad, burger and much more. Cacapon State Park is located 10 minutes from my cabin, where I primarily lived since the first days of this never-ending pandemic. With two children, and active dog, and my my family's love for hiking and adventure, you can imagine that I know this park well at this point. But, there is still so much to explore! Here are some highlights we've discovered in the past two years, knowing that there is absolutely more to discover. 1. The trails. Hiking here is ALWAYS a good idea. Four out of four seasons are beautiful. Best part of any hike? Even on weekends and holidays, even in the most beautiful of weather, the trails are (for some reason) never full of people. It's such a lovely environment, truly a "hidden gem." Recently, one of our favorite trails, I forget its name, surprised us with a newly installed rope swing from one of the tall trees. Thanks, park rangers! 2. The beach. My husband and toddler spent some days at the beach this past summer while I was working and they both declared them to be the best days ever. There is a pizza stand, lifeguards, and fellow beach-goers are friendly. 3. The recently opened Lodge! The restaurant, the decor inside, the pool, it is all wonderful. Newly opened and so far well-maintained and managed with care, it is a solidly nice place to stay, visit, and dine. 4. The playground is like three playgrounds in one. If you have little kids, go there immediately. My favorite part is the tiny play cabin with a kitchen inside. 5. Apparently there is a dog park now, recently opened in 2021. Will check it out soon and report back! Additionally, you can rent boats, you can fish, you can reserve event spaces. We have seen beautiful weddings and fun parties hosted at the state park. This is our third or fourth time eating at Prospects; we usually sit in the dining room versus the bar area as I'm not in favor of TVs in an area where were eating a meal. This little gem is located inside Cacapon Sate Park. It's a lovely drive up to the restaurant and through the park and I highly recommend giving it a visit. Sorry for just two pictures, but I can explain! Hubby and I both ordered the cheeseburger on a crisscross bun with a side of french fries. I have to say, it was a very good burger; at least in my top four for this general area. My dessert was some concoction of caramel, cake, mousse with a crunch in there someplace. I forget the name of what it was, but it was REALLY good. Hubby ordered the berry pie and said it was OK but in all fairness, I make pies from scratch using lard so it's hard to duplicate at a restaurant what I do at home. Lol. In warmer months, they have outdoor seating overlooking the golf course and mountains. It truly is a treat for the eyes as well as the stomach so be sure to give this little place a try! And if you're into spas, you'll definitely want to check their spa out. It's not a day spa like everywhere else in the area but a true resort spa. It's a great couples getaway as the guys can go golfing and the gals can make a spa day of it. read more

Not sure if we came at bad time of the year (early Dec), my experience isn't wonderful. The staff were great, but the food is not so good. Ordered the prime rib on the menu, over cooked, very tough to chew (only two bites for me), frozen veggies. The best thing was the dinner rolls. However the park is nice for us to give it a try again in next summer. read more

Stopped by for a snack and drink in early October. What friendly staff and delicious crab soup! The weather was incredible so we sat outside and soaked up the mountain air. I definitely recommend the crab soup -- very creamy and big hunks of crab. Afterwards we drove around the park and was so impressed by how clean and relaxing the lake was, there were also a bunch of hiking trails we will check out next time. I have been visiting Cacapon since the 1980s, it's a nice, short get-away from my home in the DC suburbs. My husband and I visited this weekend and were a bit disheartened by a few things. First, we have not been able to get a massage there for at least 2 years because there is never anyone available when we visit. I have tried calling at least a month in advance and, when they FINALLY return my call (last time I called 3 times before they returned it...) they tell me they don't schedule that far in advance. When I wait a couple of weeks to call, then, lo and behold, they are already booked up. This weekend, we had 3 other things go wrong: 1) the bathroom door came off its track and we couldn't get it back on; 2) my husband could not use the fitness room because neither his nor the maintenance person's key would open the door, and 3) the deadbolt on our room kept sticking and made it difficult for us to close our door when we were leaving. We love visiting Cacapon and truly hope that these problems are temporary and are fixed soon, especially the problems getting good service at the spa. read more

Cacapon is a beautiful resort in a beautiful setting. It is a great place to relax and decompress amidst the beautiful mountain scenery. Their food is well prepared and presented and the bartender was skilled. I ordered a classic martini as a test. A classic martini is a simple drink but one that, for an unknown reason, presents difficulty for many bartenders. The one I had at Cacapon Resort was prepared perfectly. read more

The lodge is nice, but it doesn't have hot water at 8, 9, or 10 o'clock in the morning. I gave up on showering after several attempts.

We live just a few miles away from Cacapon State park and consider ourselves lucky to live so close. The park is beautiful and well maintained. It has added several new trails recently and is putting in a frisbee golf course. We've eaten at the newly remodeled restaurant once and enjoyed it. There is plenty of parking at the restaurant and trail heads. The trails are well marked. I would suggest checking the map signs at one of the new trailheads for a more updated map than what's on their website. read more

When Covid-19 hit, the West Virginia State Park system began offering a 30% discount to WV residents for state parks. The idea was "staycation" at home instead of Myrtle Beach, SC or Florida Beaches. So we cancelled our Florida vacation to staycation at home! BEST decision this year! What a wonderful time!!! read more

Very Nice State Park. This review is based on the Park only. There's lots of parking available. Great Park to get your exercise in. The waterfall was so beautiful. This would be the perfect park for a family reunion. They offer all sort of activities. Horseback riding. Paddle boarding. Kayaking and paddle boating. I love the water but I'm not a swimmer. I did let my son and husband talk me into getting on the paddle boat. They also volunteered to do all the paddling in that case I couldn't resist. It definitely was a total foot workout. So l would suggest wearing comfortable shoes and bring the sunscreen. It was a very hot day but l'm so glad we went out there. I would definitely return to this park again while in the Berkley Springs area. read more

Had "food" at the lodge, it was the buffet for 3 guests. The eggs were swimming in grease of unknown origin and cold, the hash browns were not browned at all and were stone cold, as well as the pancakes stone cold and rubbery. The sausage was burnt on the outside and saturated in grease from what appears to be deep fried for some lazy reason. Bacon was also cold. There was no shortage of ketchup to douse this terrible garbage food with, about a gallon of it in a bowl sat near the eggs. The biscuit was way flat and way overcooked. $45 and a $15 tip for clearing away plates. Fool me once, never going back read more

If you think someone will answer the phone in the pro shop, it will not happen. You will get a recorded voice to hold on several times and then asked to put in a "remote access code" so you will get nowhere with this phone number. You will then be disconnected. Don't waste your time. It's too bad as we are residents of the state and had hoped for better service from this state park phone number. read more

Best wings anywhere and we are wing scouts- heh. The prime rib sandwich wasn't my favorite. Thought it was a dip that it wasn't but boy the fries were nice. The Rueben sandwich had nice ingredients but the meat was a bit tough. Our service was fabulous and nice dining room. read more

We enjoyed a beautiful day relaxing on the beach by the lake. Lifeguards were on the premises, concession stand with some basic food and drink and beautiful views. There are lots of uneven steps to get to and from the parking area, so if you are carrying lots of pool toys or have someone with you with mobility issues, be aware that this may pose an issue. We took a little ride around the park and looks like cute little cabins tucked away in the woods and a rustic and historic inn that looks so sweet. Can't wait to go back and stay on the resort. Beautiful place to go for the day to hike, sit by the lake, rent kayaks, canoes, paddle boards or paddle boats, fish or just relax and listen to the birds. read more

This was the 30th year we have held our annual golf outing here. The course was in terrible shape. The condition of the course has been going downhill for the past five years. Take a look at the bunker picture on #18. Virtually all the bunkers were like this. In addition, the irrigation system under the entire course has failed and is leaking water all over creating soggy unpassable areas on almost every hole. We were told that the State has been reducing the budget for golf course maintenance, yet at the same time the State just invested millions of dollars to add on to and renovate the lodge. So what's going to attract visitors? A chance to sit in their room and look out upon a deteriorated Class A Robert Trent Jones designed golf course? Go figure, but go play golf elsewhere! read more

We stayed in an Airbnb cabin across from the park and didn't realize our luck being so close to this park! On our first day, we drove up to the overlook and enjoyed the view. On our second day, we booked a horseback riding tour for the 5 of us. Our youngest never rode before so he was closest to our guide and was confident the entire time. Each horse was so gentle and we always felt safe. Everyone agreed this was a highlight and would recommend this activity to anyone! Best surprise is that it was 91 degrees, but we never felt hot because the trail was in the woods throughout our ride. Don't miss out on this activity. read more

Wow, prices have over doubled and the quality of food has declined. I guess they raised prices to pay for renovations/new construction. I got the lasagna, which was way over-cooked. It was dry and tasted bland. The lasagna used to be really good, but not now. Definitely not worth the money. They also charge .50 cents more for sweet tea over unsweet. I will not be going back. The only bright side was our server. She was very friendly and attentive. read more

I loved Cacapon Resort State Park! I'd spent a week there about 35 years ago, and really enjoyed it. Back then, I rode (horses) every day and spent hours reading on the front porch of the lodge. I stayed in a cabin at the time. Nowadays, I am "done" with rustic cabins and so this time I stayed in the air-conditioned comfort of the recently renovated Lodge. We had a queen-size bed. This time, no riding (I am in my sixties) but instead, lots of porch sitting and the best facial I've ever had (only $44 for half an hour of R&R!). I'd hoped to also get a massage but the massage therapist was not there Monday through Thursday; keep that in mind if you are visiting mid-week. The restaurant serves three meals a day and is decent. The pie was especially delicious (I am a pie baker and picky about my pies). At breakfast, my French toast was perfect but my husband was served nearly raw poached eggs. A quick word with the server resulted in an embarrassed apology and a replacement egg dish. Dinner was good. Spaghetti with meat sauce was positively delectable. Meatloaf was decent. My husband was less thrilled with his steak and crab dip. I think the lesson here is to stick to comfort food, and eschew the fancier fare. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. There is an indoor pool but on a hot day, that did not appeal to us. There is also a lake and walking trails (quite nice). You can golf (we do not) or play tennis (ditto) if you like. Essentially, at Cacapon you can busy yourself with activities or you can do as we did, plop yourself in a rocking chair or lounge chair and just chill out while gazing at the mountain view. We plan to return! read more

We stayed two nights in one of the CCC cabins & ate breakfast in their lodge. I enjoyed the old cabin but I suspect that's because we spent most of our time outdoors. We were in cabin #10 which is slightly more secluded than the other CCC's which are in a loop nearby. There were a few more critters inside the cabin than I'd prefer; bugs and a cute little mouse which my daughter's named and declared the cabin pet. The critters didn't bother us really, but if this sort of thing bothers you maybe consider one of the more updated cabins. I'd imagine staying in this place in the fall would be fantastic with a fire roaring in the fireplace. As for the lodge, they're in the midst of a big renovation which will likely improve things quite a bit. The lodge is a newer building anyway (1950s?) so it lacks the charm of some other lodges I've been in which were built by the CCC. The food at breakfast was good. Typical breakfast stuff. Super friendly waitress. Nice place. read more

The new park facilities are great. Really nice ambiance and new addition to the old lodge is well done. The spa is a nice addition although the staff needs a bit of customer care training as well as ensuring COVID precautions are followed at the standards of other spas in the area. The park really needs to upgrade the food. For such a nice renovation, the food is just not very good for the look and feel of the lodge as well as other park amenities. I often look for conference venues for corporate events and the one thing that gets in the way of choosing the park is the food and beverage service and options. Just not up to the standards expected by the business leaders that would attend our events. Sad really as it is a really great location, lovely hotel accommodations, great golf course (minus the clubhouse if you would call it that), and very nice people. Overall, it is a nice park. Hiking has become less enjoyable with the introduction of cyclists on the trails (many are shared) who disturb the peaceful hiking experience that one could enjoy prior to the bikes. We don't hike there anymore for that reason after hiking in the park for the last 22 years. read more

This place is wonderful.....every subject except one. The new restaurant did not consider the elderly's path to get to a table. Both are too long. One takes you from the north parking lot around the building and across the patio then into the restaurant. This option is only when the weather permits. The second one is near the front desk, down a long hallway, down the elevator and into the restaurant. Our only bonus is that we got a front parking space. We can't come again with our parents. I've been here a bunch of times, mostly to fish, a couple of times to hike. There is a lot to do here, and it's such a nice park. There is a golf course, swimming beach (seasonal), two lakes, horseback riding, shooting range, playgrounds, picnic areas and tons of hiking. You can even get a fishing license at the resort. Make sure you get a trout stamp if you're going to fish in the lower lake. Get a map and a compass if you're going for a hike, and bring some water. There is always something to do there. read more
