Hunter schnitzel with mushroom gravy, spaetzel, And red cabbage
    Mark A.

Lunch today at this restaurant which was excellent. Just a little place at the intersection of Braddock and Handley Only 3 or 4 parking spaces on their lot is the biggest drawback. Two tables inside to eat at and a couple of tables outside. We had Hunter Schnitzel with spaetzle and red cabbage. The Schnitzel was wonderful topped with a nice mushroom gravy Red cabbage was authentic and delicious. There is no ambience here just good food. I guess most of their business is takeout You have to purchase bottled water or bottled soft drinks if you want a drink I recommend trying it. Nothing else like it in town. It's a bit pricey but you get a good serving Our lunch with 2 bottles of water was just over $50.00

This is a very small place with 6 parking spots and only a few tables but the food is very good. I had Sauerbraten and purple cabbage and the meat was very tender and tasty. The spaetzle was also perfectly cooked. The person working was also very nice. There is even outdoor seating. I would certainly return to try some other dishes.

This is not a restaurant! There are two tables to sit inside, however plan to do carryout. We ordered our food from here and received great customer service. The goulash and the schnitzel were tasty, but not worth the price. The spaetzle was very bland. We also ordered potato salad that we did not receive. Would likely travel to a different place to get better food worth the price paid.

Great Food! They were included recently as one of the ten best places for German cuisine in Virginia. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Vm255P4mD/?mibextid=wwXIfr

A friend told us about German Food, so we decided to give it a try. The owner is friendly and we had a good talk about Germany and growing up in East Germany. The menu selection is small and a bit pricey. They have a good selection of German beer. I ordered the $12.50 schnitzel, thinking that price included a side. Nope, sides are $4 each. The schnitzel was very large and tasted great. They could cut the meat portion in half and include sides with the meal for the same price. They also have some German items for sale, all at reasonable prices. They have indoor and outdoor seating, 2 tables. They do offer a daily special that includes sides, but was nothing I liked. The location is not the greatest and parking is mainly on the street. They do have 2-3 spots in front of the building, but too small for my vehicle. If the meals included sides, I would rate a 5.

The best German food I've ever had!! Absolutely authentic and delicious! The schnitzel, mushroom gravy, spaetzel, currywurst, potato salad and sauerkraut were all amazing. The owners are also so friendly and welcoming. This is a tiny little place (seating for 8 inside and seating for 12 outside). We will definitely be back!

Very typical and authentic German foods, cooked well. Nice selection of German beers to accompany your meal.

I don't get out to the Sauson International Grocery as often as I used to, but I still make the…read moretrip 1-2 times a month for mainly one thing: some of the freshest and tastiest bread in all of the DMV. Every culture has their own interpretation of taking the basic ingredients of flour, yeast, salt and water and transforming it via various baking methods into their version of "bread." There is a long history of using circular oval shaped ovens in Asia and the Middle East as a way of both conserving space and to efficiently cook foods with even heat distribution and small footprints in otherwise cramped kitchens. In India these ovens are called tandoors while in Japan they are referenced as kamados. Sauson International Grocery has been in operation since 2011, and the owner, who everyone knows as "Mr. Rashid," is of Persian descent having emigrated from Iran. He is always super friendly and willing to answer questions I may have about the wide variety of Middle Eastern spices and foods this place stocks. Don't be surprised if you strike up a conversation with him, and he offers you a cup of wonderfully spiced tea and a cookie or pastry from the delectable dessert case. As some of the reviews have noted, parking is tricky. There is a small covered garage under the building. But you may have to park at the nearby church or on the street and then walk over to the store. This place is well known for their bread, which is being made throughout the day. I came a bit later today, so they had just finished making a few batches. But it's not uncommon to witness skilled bakers kneading and rolling, and then slapping the dough onto the circular metallic oven for a few minutes, before piping hot fresh bread emerges. The bread is amazing. It is pliable, without being overly chewy. It is slightly salty, with a great smoky almost charred flavor. I've had it cut into pieces and then dipped with hummus or rolled into gyros or used to sandwich kabob meat. And believe it or not, it's even pretty good as a PB&J. Everyone, and I mean everyone, I've introduced this product to usually asks: (1). What type of bread is this? and (2). Where can I buy it? Note: As of this review, the current price is $8.05 for FOUR large round pieces of bread. Apart from the bread, there is also a small butcher shop in the back, and a kitchen where hot foods like kabob platters are made. There is also a small seating area in front of the store, where folks can sip tea and relax while enjoying sweets from the display case. Sauson is a really cool place and while I usually go with the intention of only buying bread, it's not uncommon for me to walk out with a few bags of unique Middle Eastern groceries.

Impressive variety of selection and wonderful hospitality. Can't wait to go back soon.read more
