I wanted to like BME but they cost about 30% more and their work needs to be corrected. Fellas, if you work on a vehicle and charge premium price, bottom line, you better deliver premium work. Fact is you changed my valve cover gaskets incorrectly and when I called about the deficiency I didnt get the response I expected for the price I'm paying. Its like, "yeah you can bring it by and we'll check it out and maybe if its our fault we'll fix it." No man, that was the wrong move. You already got my money repeatedly, I'm a repeat customer and you couldnt even really give a shit if my car was still leaking oil on a job you were supposed to fix. So I took my friends advice, checked out another shop and it was like NIGHT AND DAY. My new shop treats me great, charges me less, and was able to fix what BME did incorrectly (valve cover gaskets were placed incorrectly and leaked oil). just an example, I had to talk them down from about 32-35 dollars a spark plug to 27. even though these things only cost about 8 bucks a pop. Thats a 250% mark up. A further update in July 2018. The professionals at BME continue to provide the same high quality service, attention to detail, and understanding of the customer that I experienced during my first encounter with them. As I've said before, they understand the customer and make recommendations on service to your car that reflects that understanding. For example, there's been a particular developing problem that wasn't going to be cheap to fix (it's a 2001 3 series after all) and we've been "keeping an eye" on it for a couple of years. Long story short, I took my car in for an oil change, and I knew the problem was getting worse, but I left it with them at 8:00 without mentioning it. By 8:30 Bill was on the phone with me saying it had gotten worse, and hey, we can let it go a little longer (wait for a more catastrophic failure) or fix it today. Of course I said fix it today. They knew where my tipping point was because they know their repeat customers and they know their customers' cars. I brought my 2011 Mini Cooper to this shop twice now due to the fact that they specialize in Mini's, I wanted to go to a shop that knew what they were doing. Although I hate having to come here because it means my car needs repair, Rick and his staff makes it worthwhile. They are very friendly and they will talk your ears out about cars if you let them. You can definitely tell that not only do they know a lot about their field of work, but they also have a passion in working with cars and simply providing good customer service. The last time I brought my car in, it was for quite a big job. My alternator completely died on me. Keep in mind, this is my first time owning a car and also my first time having to replace a car alternator so I was completely flabbergasted at the cost Rick quoted me. Rick was kind enough to let me think things through. I was not sure whether the car was worth the repairs at the time and he was not pushy about getting the repairs done, instead he patiently answered all my questions via email, phone, and text for 2 days straight. Yes I can be an ask-hole. I even barged in on him that Friday right before the shop was to close, so I could ask him even more questions! Well, I ended up committing to getting the repairs done and I'm glad I did. I picked up my car a couple days later and was very pleased to learn that not only did they go that extra mile to get my car as road ready as possible, they went above and beyond. I cannot rave enough about Bill's help throughout the process. He always looks for discounts or promotions to help lower costs and even goes as far as contacting BMW warranty personal to see if certain pricey repairs can be covered. What I really love is whenever they find a needed repair after inspection, Bill always sets the replaced part aside to show me what was wrong and explain why it needed fixing. BEWARE : Brought my 2002 325Ci in for check engine light. Was informed the the valve cover gasket needed to be replaced because of an severe smoke leak during dianosnics. This replacement should take 2-3 hours per service manager Rick. Got the bill which came to over 12281.00 556.00 labor ÷ 3 hr= 185.33/hr 656.36 parts for a gasket kit that sells for 50 to 70 dollars 10 times markup. Even if it was a OEM part it shouldn't be marked up this high. So they clear the codes and the check engine light was off on pickup less than 2 miles later it came back on. Be careful using these people unless you want to be taken to the cleaners. read more

Really enjoyed the communication by phone and email that kept us in the loop with everything (again, thanks Chris) that was going on with our 2009 BMW X5 4.8. The entire time the team made us feel right at home and explained the laundry list of items that needed attention on the X5 and proposed several options over a period of time to get those faults repaired. We of course started with the most severe and go that resolved at a very much reduced price then what was quoted at the BMW house. They're pretty good at breaking things on BMWs. Broke windshield (They did fix this, though the quality was dubious) Broke rear view mirror (lied about this). Don't recommend getting any work done here. My opinion? An equally pretentious and overpriced "alternative" to the local dealer. I initially took my car to BMW for a check engine light diagnosis. I got what triggered the light warning fixed but they also provided me with a list of other things that needed repair (although not urgent) with prices. The repairs there definitely would have cost me an arm and a leg. A friend recommended BME and I am so thankful for that. I sent an email and Leif responded so quickly. We communicated easily through email and text and he was very accommodating since I live on Maui and would have to commute in to drop off the car. I was able to safely drop off the car over the weekend and they were actually able to look at my car a day before my scheduled appointment. Leif kept me updated frequently and even sent me pictures of the problem spot. The car was done when it was promised and again, Leif was very accommodating and hung onto the car over the weekend so I could fly in again to pick it up. It cost me much less than it would have if I had the repair done at BMW but the quality of work was still at a high caliber. The customer service is excellent and Leif was extraordinary! I took my 2011 Mini Cooper S in to Mini of Hawaii to get the thermostat replaced as it was leaking. They wanted to charge me $1200 to get it done. Decided to look for another shop and found BME! I called them up to get a quote and they had Chris (The Mini expert) give me a call back. He quoted me something that was about HALF of what mini quoted me. I decided to give them a go as they were super helpful over the phone and I had not even stepped foot in the place yet. I got to the shop the next morning and it is a VERY professional looking auto shop that is gated and has multiple service lifts. I was created by Bill I believe and he got me taken care of. Later that day I received a call from Chris again letting me know of a few other pipes that should probably be replaced do to a couple pin hole leaks. He was honest and let me know that I could probably leave them but I didn't want to run the risk of having to come back and have them dig back in to get to them. Chris pointed out several things that I could wait on that Mini told me I needed ASAP. Overall Chris and the rest of the guys at BME were so hopeful. In the end I had them replace the thermostats, heater hose, and a water pipe all for less than what Mini wanted for just one thing. Our BMW recently had a window get stuck down. We brought it here and told the owner we just wanted the window to go up and stay up for now, not wanting to spend a lot because we still needed to buy Christmas presents. We dropped the car off and walked around the area surrounding, though we could of stayed in the A/C office. Mostly industrial buildings except on the main street. A few hobos and a tranny hooker, but it didn't feel unsafe to be in, just normal Hawaiian shit. Hell, even the massive amounts of traffic stopped for us at a crosswalk quickly and let us go. We got some shaved ice and just walked around for a while. Anyways we head back about an hour later, turns out the motor in the window, I think he called it something else, was broken, so it will be a $400 fix. As we requested though he just disconnected the motor and got the window up, and it stays up now for a cool $100. I was thinking about doing it myself, but I didn't want to screw up the weather stripping on the inside and create an even bigger problem. Also we had some service lights coming on that were worrying me. I didn't want to ask before hand for him to check it out because other places on previous cars charge me just to figure out what the problem is. But he told us for free, just some simple fluid changes, even gave us a printout of how much it's going to cost. A+ service. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I didn't get the "this guy is shady as fuck and I need a second opinion" feeling like I almost always do when taking my car into shops. Will be bringing my BMW here in the future. Also everyone complaining about high prices: Deal with it. You have to use the right parts, not just any store bought plug. If you wanted that, you should of got a Honda. read more

I should have wrote this review much earlier as I visited them a few months ago to get a check engine light diagnosed/cleared on my 2012 Mini Countryman. Their diagnosis was the same as the one I ran on my diagnostic tool, so no surprises there, and they cleared it for a reasonable price (just below dealership cost). What really impressed me however was the extra attention my car received while being inspected. Not only did the mechanic diagnose the issue of a "light bulb warning" that periodically flashed on, which the dealership had yet to do, but they also cleaned-up my engine bay by repositioning wires/hoses to make it more "organized" as I had recently upgraded my stock intake to an after market one.
