Bavette closes for good January 17, 2025 after 13 years in business. I stopped in for, possibly, my last lunch there today with a friend. We shared the Grilled Cornbread with Chipotle Honey Butter and Steak Tartare, which is one of my three all-time favorite Steak Tartares in town (sadly, the other two restaurants also closed), she had the Corned Beef Tongue sandwich, and I had the Bavette burger. All of the food was delicious, as always, and service was excellent!

fantastic date spot for brunch. incredibly kind staff -- they were so accommodating to change our assigned table to better fit our stroller, and the staff was so kind & great to talk to. we loved our appetizers of the corn bread & the hamachi crudo. for entrees I ordered the roasted carrot salad & their soup of the day. the roasted carrot salad was so fun with cooked carrots, a delicious dressing & plenty of other bold flavors. and the soup of the day was an insane chicken curry...never had something like this before & certainly hope I do again! honestly we had such a pleasant time, I can't wait to visit again.

What a perfect place for a spontaneous lunch! Little Foodie Cousin suggested this place and I was game. Why I hadn't dined here yet, in my two and a half years, was beyond me. Walking in, I was immediately impressed. It was a warm and lovely vibe. Loved the overall decor and, dare I say, feng shui. The storefront gift shop had so many things I wanted, but first FOOD! It was hopping for a weekday lunch. We were lucky to get a table so quickly. As it gets nicer out, I would make a reservation. Our server was so nice. She was happy to make suggestions. So many choices that made my mouth water, but I chose a crowd fave - the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich with cucumber, kohlrabi slaw, and fish sauce vinagrette. Of course, on the side, beef fat fries with the remoulade dipping sauce. YUM YUM YUM. I was really happy with my entree! We didn't have dessert because we were stuffed. Post lunch coffee was perfect. Overall, I can say that I have new place to add to my list of MKE faves. Will definitely be back in the near future!

Stopped by for a snack and the beef carpaccio is 10/10. We ate it in 5 min it was so delicious. The beef by itself is honestly enough. The cornbread was good too but the truffle butter is very rich so glad we also got the carpaccio.

We had a lovely conversation with Patrick about Limp Bizkit, death metal, among other topics. We ordered the carpaccio, octopus, banh mi, along with bread and truffle butter. The octopus was delicious, however we personally would have preferred the octopus have fewer ingredients. Truffle butter had layered flavors, outstanding. The pork belly in the banh mi was so tender and yummy, highly recommended! The art near the bathrooms was cool. Walking through he ingredient store is fun, *buy* the squid and fish tins!

I've been to Bavette probably a dozen times for lunch in both their old and new location, and it has ALWAYS been an excellent atmosphere, with incredibly friendly service, and delicious food!! The current location is open and airy, with a lovely shop at the front with fun cooking items, meats and cheeses and unique gift finds you won't find elsewhere. Food highlights to consider for your visit: Pimento Cheese Dip: it has some texture to it, which it a great surprise compared to most which are blitzed into oblivion. Lions Mane Schnitzel: probably my favorite dish on the menu. Flavor combos are like nothing I've ever tried before, and it can certainly be a lunch when paired with a cup of the daily soup! Cuban Pressed Sandwich: this is my go to Sammy here, always loaded with pork and the pickles are homemade! I get the side salad because the sandwich is rich, but my gosh, even their side salad is craveable!! Pork Belly Bahn Mi: I get this sandwich whenever I'm not at a business lunch because it's large and sometimes difficult to eat, by my gosh, it's WORTH it. The spicy sauce isn't to hot, and the pork belly is melt in your mouth. Potato Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie: didn't skip this!! Have then warm it up for you and eat it there or get it to go, you won't regret it. Highly recommend, and honestly need to visit for dinner sometime!

I already want to go back here to try more of their dishes! The restarting has a small shop at the front where you can buy different wines or food items. We ordered a handful of items, all of which were really good. The pimento cheese dip had some fun flavors although the consistency was different than what I was expecting. They have a range of vegetables/salads on their menu, all of which incorporate unique ingredients and combinations. We tried the chickpea salad which was so refreshing and delicious. We also tried the fried chicken sandwich, which comes with the option of beef fried French fries - I have truly not had fries this good with a subtle umami notes. So delicious and can't wait to go back!

The food was 10/10 and the overall vibe of the place is amazing. Nick gave us amazing service. If you're coming to the area I'd recommend trying them out for sure! Will be back again

Just incredible. We stopped in for a weekday lunch and Bavette definitely did not disappoint. The lovely street side patio was a wonderful place to sit outside, enjoy the weather, and people watch. Service was incredibly attentive and friendly. But the food; oh, the food. The beef carpaccio was absolutely divine. I also really enjoyed the deviled eggs and octopus. We got some trout dip with bread that was not my favorite, but everything else we ordered was spot-on. Can't wait to return.

"La Boucherie" means "butcher" in French, so be ready for a meat-centric meal! This small restaurant was nice enough for a special occasion but casual enough that we didn't dress up too much. We worked through several courses: first breads, trying both the grilled cornbread with honey truffle butter and the focaccia with olive oil. I wouldn't have thought honey and truffles would go well together but it made for a well rounded flavor with the hearty base of the cornbread. By comparison, the focaccia, no slouch though it was, seemed more one dimensional. The olive oil served was young and peppery, but again, not as fully realized as the flavors of the cornbread. We then tried the beef fat fries; if you're old enough to remember when McDonald's and the like cooked their fries this way, prepare to have flashbacks. One order was more than enough for two and came with a pickle-heavy aioli. We capped the meal off with a charcuterie board; yes, they're trendy, but this is actually the kind of place you want to get one. It was a chef's choice of meats and cheeses (they helpfully provided a slip of paper telling us what they were) including salame Rosa, country pate, coppa, Quicke's goat truckle cheese, Hook's Paradise blue and Red Barn Farms Heritage Weisse, along with cornichons, caper berries, candied pecans, jams, and mustards. The only thing we didn't mutually care for was the pate, but we enjoyed all the other choices. Our waitress was very friendly and kept a good eye on us throughout the meal. There was also a small shop at the front where you could buy items to take home. Overall, a nice spot for a special dinner out in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.

Such a great spot! The food options are fantastic, everything looks fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Service was wonderful too. They also had a cute little shop in the front with handmade dishes and cheese. Definitely a place I'd come back to next time i'm in milwaukee.

Came here with my best friend after flying into Milwaukee for a high school reunion. We sat outside and seriously had the best time. We ordered some delicious mocktails to start. We shared the pimento cheese, the beet salad, and sausage, and dessert. I can't remember what each menu item was called but I have pics. Our server was top-notch. Very attentive and knowledgeable! Definitely will come here when I return to Milwaukee!

Made my first visit since the move to the new location. The space is a little bit bigger than the old one and the retail section up front is expanded, but it retains the same charm. It's a nice place to get a fancy but unpretentious meal at the bar, but if a date took me here I'd be impressed too. The food is always fantastic. It can be a little hard to make a decision. Some people find a favorite and order it every time. And there are plenty of worthy contenders. The corned beef tongue Reuben is always good. Others swear by the chili. I saw several people getting the bread and cultured butter, or the cornbread. All fine choices. Today I flipped a coin to decide between the meatball and the Korean steak au jus. I got the Korean steak with a green salad on the side. This was the best meal I've had in awhile. The sandwich was messy to eat--turn it on its side to dunk in the hot pot broth and peanuts get everywhere. But I wouldn't sacrifice the peanuts for convenience. The steak was tender with some pleasant chew and the kimchi aioli and cabbage slaw added some crunch and complexity. The bread was up to the task of holding everything together and soaked up the broth. The salad was a nice portion, lightly dressed, with watermelon radish, tomatoes, cucumbers, and feta. It was a perfect accompaniment to the sandwich. I was already in a state of food bliss and the server asked if I wanted to look at the dessert menu. I got the brownie and ate it slowly, in small bites. It was warm and decadent but not too rich. Bavette is not cheap but for the quality and composition of the food it's a pretty good value, and casual enough to make a spontaneous lunch stop during a day in the Third Ward.

That was perfect since we were only going to be there for a few minutes while we had some shaved ice. The market offers everything from cheese, seafood, pasta etc. as well as many restaurants to choose from. We were in the mood for something cold on a hot summer day and Chillwaukee hit the spot. We finished our shaved ice and headed back to our car. We thought we had plenty of time to make it out of the parking lot in less than 30 minutes. When we got in the line to exit there were only 4 cars ahead of us with 5 minutes left of time. No problem, I thought. I was wrong. When it was my turn to exit I was told I had to pay for an hour of parking even though we were only over by a few seconds!! When I explained that I had been in line for 5 minutes, the attendant said that the same thing had happened to other customers before me and that there was nothing he could do about it. I would agree if I had shown up one minute late and there was no line to leave. Other than the parking situation, I enjoyed my short visit to the market.
