Matzo Ball Soup - on this Boxing Day, the breakfast of Champions!!
    Santino C.

Benji's has long been my preferred establishment for matzo ball soup. However, on this occasion, I opted for a pastrami on rye sandwich accompanied by a side of French fries. The sandwich was delectable, with freshly bread combined with a flavorful brown mustard. The French fries were equally impressive, achieving a perfect balance of crispiness and flavor. Overall, Benji's was an exceptional lunch experience.

Nobody was friendly here, but I'm still giving it 4 stars cause the food was good. I got the Hear o Israel, it wasn't quite what I saw on the food network but still very good. I've had this place on my radar for awhile, I just felt like they didn't want me there, most employees don't talk to you or look at you unless you directly address them. Weird, but I still need to come back to try the matzo ball soup because that's supposedly a staple menu item

I wanted to go here my whole life and I finally got here! Looking at pictures from past patrons it didn't quite match the amount of meat in their sandwiches. It was like going back in time to a diner, but everyone was very serious and not sure what the vibe is supposed to be. I opted for the not Italian beef, which was pretty good but very thin on a baguette bun, my dining companion had me try her Benji sandwich and that was much more flavorful. It had a small amount of coleslaw and cheese and battered fries. Now I can take this off my list as having tried it. Potato salad was my favorite of all as it tasted just like homemade and fresh. There are many cameras in the smallest establishment

The service here is amazing. Their eggs and meats are fantastic. My favorites include: bagel & lox, omelette, and Benji's breakfast. They have the best Reuben I've ever had. We stop in as often as we can!

Had breakfast / brunch at Benji's and I thought the food was great- and that's really what you're there for. Service was good, and the ambiance was Ok - nothing fancy here. Sit-down and have a feast.

    Reuben eggs benedict

2nd visit. Reuben eggs benedict. Eggs poached perfectly, corned beef tasty and lean. Main issue at this location is food is never hot enough. Cheese not melted, kraut and beef only lukewarm. The hollandaise is made specially for this sandwich and has a hint of thousand island in it which is a nice touch, but it is very sparing. Definitely needs more.

Enjoying a delicious Reuben from Benji's!

Having worked near Benji's for several years now I am happy to say that I've found a new go-to for sandwiches or similar fare. I am a big reuben fan, and having tried many of the options in the Milwaukee area I have to say I think Benji's reuben is the new winner. I was shocked with how loaded this baby was with (hand carved) corned beef, even with it being on the higher side of the price range. The sandwich was paired with a nice amount of Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, buttered and then grilled just as it should be. I was happy to also see that a pickle and chips were included. A hefty lunch for sure! If you are in the area, drive straight past the neighboring subway or other chain options and come right to this local spot. You'll be happy you did.

Portions are small and the price is high. The only delicatessen in the area. The quality has gone down with the new ownerships.

I mean what kid wouldn't be excited for that? So many freshly-made options to choose from, and this one was a winner. Definitely a very sweet-treat, and worth splitting a handful of ways, but boy was it tasty! I also grabbed a latte for myself, which I always enjoy here. I will say however, I wish they had other milk options beyond oat and whole milk. I say this with no means to complain, but both of those milk are very 'heavy' so whenever something like skim or almond is available, that's a personal preference for sure. Love the community feel here, love the goodies, will return.

They had a variety of baked goods to choose from- we opted for the cinnamon roll and the seasonal danish. We also ordered a cappuccino and an americano. The baked goods we had were okay. We were disappointed they wouldn't heat up the cinnamon roll, the reason they gave us was because the frosting would run and be messy. So the cinnamon roll wasn't very enjoyable. I liked the filling on the seasonal danish but I asked for it heated up and it was served at room temp. The coffee was good- we both thought it was weak for our liking but it had good flavor. Also to note, this place is very family-friendly. When we were in, there were a lot of children and families enjoying the space. I would love to come back and try the monkey bread; they were sold out when we arrived this morning and we were told it's a top-seller.

And you might be thinking, "well gee that's close enough to go pick it up yourself," but on a rainy cold day I was craving the freaky-fast-delivery! Consider this my plea for a change. We went ahead and ordered online - three sandwiches for four people because let me tell ya, that's plenty. I opted for the good ol' turkey tom. You just can't go wrong with this classic choice. However I removed mayo from the order because they go way too hefty on that for my liking. My mom and I split this sub and as per, said how much we love soft their bread. The rest of the order was a #2 (aka roast beef) and #12 (aka beach club) which has the fancy avo-spread. We snagged a bag of bbq chips and a bag of salt and vinegar. I'm not even a chip gal but I enjoy the one's at JJs. I put in the order and left my house soon after. Once I arrived, a few folks were in-line to order at the register. They all put in their orders, paid, and left with their goods before my subs were ready. Needless to say, I'll probably just go in-store for take-out next time as it seems like the speediest option!

I found myself looking for a Friday fish fry close to Germantown so that I could be back by 6:30pm…read more After looking through my bookmarks of places I hadn't been to yet, Crave Bar & Food's pictures intrigued me the most. In addition to the beer battered walleye with potato pancakes I got beer batter cheese curds and a dozen wings. Happy hour is 2pm to 5pm Monday through Friday and, along with having drink specials, select appetizers are $7 each. The cheese curds, which are huge and come as an order of nine, are one of those select apps. The batter didn't have much beer taste and the shredded Parmesan on top seemed unnecessary, but for $7 they were a steal and even at the regular price of $10.50 they're an excellent value. The old pictures I saw of their wings made them look like they were coated in a rub even though the menu didn't state it. Just to be safe, so I could taste the rub if there was one, I got half the wings without sauce and half with honey BBQ. There didn't end up being a rub on the wings, but the sauceless ones were still great. The honey BBQ was bold tasting, yet didn't overpower the flavor of the chicken. Although I enjoyed the wings, $18 for a dozen is on the very high end of what I would pay, especially since they were average sized and not jumbo. The amount of food on the walleye plate blew me away. Even if they gave me just one of the two large walleye fillets, I feel like that would have been about fair for the price. The two huge fillets made it feel like I hit the fish fry jackpot. Similar to the cheese curds, I didn't taste any beer in the batter, but the fillets were good regardless. I prefer potato pancakes that are thin and crispy, but their thicker potato pancakes were great even with largely being soft due to their thickness. I liked the herbs in the potato pancakes and was a big fan of the cinnamon applesauce compared to plain applesauce most other restaurants provide. Throughout dinner I heard some of the hostesses and waitresses stressing about reservations and having enough tables. Apparently I got lucky that a table was available right away when I got there at 4:30pm. I guess call to make a reservation if you plan on coming on a Friday night.
