I had been a customer since 1979- until recently, twice I have gotten sick from the Corn Beef and Pastrami. Once in the summer of 2024 and recently in January of 2025. After 2024, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, maybe it had something to do with me and not the food. After searching the city for something comparable, with no luck, and my taste for a Corn beef sandwich had grown exponentially, I broke down and tried them again last month. I got sick again. Fool me once, fool me twice... I won't shop there again. The sandwich is too expensive and it made me ill after consuming the product.

I really enjoyed the corn beef on my first visit, so came back because my spouse was looking for good pastrami. I decided to try the turkey pastrami. That was a mistake. It was dry. I don't think it was on rye. Not sure there was cheese on it that I requested, very disappointing compared to the corn beef that I had before. I tasted some of my spouse's pastrami. I found it to be very fatty and messy, but he had bell pepper put on which might have contributed to the ooze. Overall, very disappointing second visit. my rating is a three only because of the great service.

Fire cornbeef sandwich! The cooked right in front of you freshly sliced melt in your mouth corn beef sandwiched between butter toasted bread slices really made the 13$ a timeless deli sandwich that I will be coming to! I think it is the best corn beef in the city above Benji's with how fresh, hot, and melt in your mouth the corn beef really is! Next time, I'll be ordering it with cheese! Must go if you like deli sandwiches and corn beef!! The pickle could be improved but that's not what I came for.

This place has changed hands at least three times and it shows. It's not that Jewish DELI that I grew up with. The cut like they at home , not against the grain like their supposed to. It's tasted ok , but it was tough. For the price I want better , I really this I'll be going back . Either they need buy a meat slice or learn how to cut this meat right, because I want my money worth.

Location is a real dive now. Food used to be great. It is terrible now. Plus it is so expensive. Definitely not worth the trip.

There were several servers hanging around and it wasn't clear where I could order. Sat at the counter and was ignored for 5 min. The server came over and told me to go to the deli area. It was a challenge to understand the clerk. A quart and pint of soup with a bagel and lox was $40. While I waited i read recent reviews and was alarmed. What happened to the best Jewish deli in our area? The lox tasted very fishy, like smoked fish. Unlike any lox I'd ever eaten. I asked for capers and regretted it; there were so many and with only the tiniest shmear of cream cheese, it was inedible. Too salty to be edible. The bagel was ok, but couldn't eat much of it. The chicken soup with mishmosh also disappointed. The lid was swimming in grease. I discarded it carefully. There was 1 matzo ball (ok), tons of noodles (meh) rice (ugh - underdone and inedible) and a kreplach ( I had to spit it out - filling was rancid and sour). The broth was tasteless and unseasoned. What happened to Benji's? So sad.

Never felt rushed even though the store was busy. In the bakery area he recommended to get the cinnamon roll and oh my it was the best one I ever had. Most of those spots only open for dinner, so I was thrilled to find that Bavette La Boucherie now serves lunch. My friend, a local, told me the restaurant originally began as a butcher shop. While that's no longer the case, the space still pays tribute to its roots -- shelves lined with kitchen knick-knacks, butcher-block counters, and a display of local provisions that hint at its past. Chef-owner Karen Bell leads the way here, and you can feel her touch throughout -- from the creative menu to the casual-elegant vibe. The décor blends exposed brick and warm wood with soft light and a friendly hum from the open kitchen. Our server, Matthew R., had only been with Bavette a couple of weeks, but his background in restaurant management showed. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Before our sandwiches arrived, we shared a cup of pork and tomatillo pozole topped with cabbage slaw and a dollop of sour cream. It was piping hot, bright, and deeply flavorful -- the kind of starter that makes you stop talking for a minute just to enjoy the next spoonful. Having read rave reviews of the Korean steak au jus, I nearly ordered it, but Matthew suggested the roast-beef with cheddar since I'm not a big lunch eater. Excellent call. The sandwich was divine -- tender, flavorful beef layered with melted cheddar on a crisp, perfectly toasted roll. The beef-fat fries had great depth of flavor, though I'd love them even more if they were twice-cooked for that extra crunch. Being more of a gin or vodka drinker, I couldn't resist the Gin Old Fashioned on the cocktail list. It was delicious -- smooth, aromatic, and balanced enough that I happily ordered a second. Great food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Bavette La Boucherie is a gem I can't wait to revisit.

On Saturday, September 4, 2021, my friend was interested in the science museum, but I was interested in seeing more variety of things in downtown Milwaukee. So, I dropped him off and did my own stuff that afternoon. One thing was stopping at the Milwaukee Public Market, which my friend from Arizona highly recommended. My friend really missed out on this one! Like the night before, I had cheese curds again here at West Allis! When in Rome, right?! Cheese curds were outstanding, which was the side to my also outstanding Muenster grilled cheese sandwich on buttery toasted sourdough. Of the 3 cheese curds I had in Milwaukee, all 3 of which were excellent, West Allis was the very best of 3 excellent choices. Cheese curds in Maryland (where I live) don't compare; see my 4-star review of Brew Belly in Olney, MD visited 2.5 months after Milwaukee trip written on 10/6/25; other aspects of that place were stronger, cheese curds were more of a 3-star (I was spoiled in Milwaukee), but still even those cheese curds were far superior to the worst date of 2021 at Brew Belly. The line at West Allis was long at lunchtime on that Saturday of Labor Day weekend, but the staff was efficient & cordial getting people through the line in reasonable time as well as getting the food quickly. I think I ate in an upstairs area of the market where there was some seating. If I was ever in Milwaukee again, I'd come back here, Brewers game if it timed well: Go Brew Crew!
