There's a Bawarchi in our home city in Jersey, so we chose to come here instead of trying out the other Indian restaurant close by. We're so glad we did! The service and the food here are both amazing! My husband and I stopped in late last night just before closing and the staff was SO friendly. Talking to them was definitely a highlight. We tried the samosas, onion pakoda, chili garlic paneer appetizer (recommended by John), butter paneer entree, and lamb tikka masala. It all smelled so delicious on the drive home we honestly had to open up our appetizer in the car- it was SO good! Tasted like a chinese or korean dish to me and the flavor made me feel like I was devouring boneless wings except it was paneer! The portions were reasonable and everything was priced as expected, but the flavors perfectly satisfied our craving for good Indian food. We didn't get to try the chai, which apparently so many people come here for. While waiting for our food, at least 5 people came in just for the chai which was unfortunately sold out. Found my favorite Indian spot in Richardson! Parking is easy and the servers are very helpful. While I was offered butter chicken and politely declined, I asked the waiter for something unique and spicy. She recommended the Mughali chicken curry. My husband got the chicken biryani, which is enough for two people along with very watery raita with a few onions in it. Weird. I got the lunch combo with veg biryani and Chana masala. The Chana masala was very delicious! The veg biryani was not. I could not recognize 1 vegetable besides a piece of broccoli in the dish. I have no idea what the other stuff was. The flavor also was not there. It came with the same watery raita in the most ridiculous presentation because I couldn't get any out.... One of my Indian co-workers recommended this place and it was better than I expected based on the average 3.5-star rating. Bawarchi offers a large variety of vegetarian and non-veggie biryanis and curries. The combo meal allows you to choose one of each. I ordered the mutton biryani with chicken tikka masala. I didn't specify any spiciness level, but I thought it was just right (mild-medium). The biryani was flavorful and had a generous amount of mutton. And chicken tikka was creamy and deliciously spiced with tender chunks of meat. My only complaint was the naan (a couple of small triangles come with the combo meal) which didn't taste like it was freshly made. It was lacking any crisp, airy pockets and wasn't very warm even though it came out several minutes after our entree did. Horrible customer service!! I visited this place now twice a second time to see if it was just a bad day...and received the same type of treatment. My first visit the female was not receptive and didn't offer to assist with the menu and was rude. The 2nd visit, a male- Shreeja, didn't speak clearly and didn't try to assist with any customer service. He insisted I use a credit card because he didn't have any changed and appeared angry and failed to offer water or apology. My food was ready and he didn't call my name or bring to my table which was only a few feet. After I noticed other 4 patrons receive their food who had ordered after me, he then motioned to pick up the order! My food was seasoned with the highest degree of spicy/ hot, that eating just the white rice I could not tolerate. Excellent biryani plus very strict COVID safety practices among the counter AND kitchen staff make this a place I will happily come back to when I have that need for biryani. This is a very clean and airy restaurant, but they do not appear to be open for indoor dining. Most folks I saw coming and going here had ordered online and were carrying out. Online ordering is the thing here, and next time I come I'll do that. This was the next place I came to after my first biryani stop at another restaurant crashed and burned over lack of COVID safety measures. (I reviewed that other restaurant on that.) Here, however, kitchen staff were masked and all precautions were being taken, including providing hand sanitizer to guests, sanitizing my card, requiring masks and social distancing. I felt like my food was prepared in a COVID-safe environment and that the staff here was not just trained in COVID safety theater, but actually practiced it. I ordered inside and my order was brought out to my car for me to take home. At home I was very pleased with the portion sizes - my order of Chettinadu Boneless Mutton biryani will feed 3 hungry people. The dish is beautiful as a biryani should be, perfectly spiced and generously studded with tender boneless mutton. It's absolutely delicious! Raita and sauce enhance the experience. I also ordered the chicken tikka masala for my spice averse family. The chicken tikka is absolutely delicious. Service is fast, professional, and friendly. They do not have touchless payment, but the man who took my card sanitized it before handing it back to me - a nice touch. Consistently delicious. We dine in for lunch at least once a month - normally on a Saturday or Sunday. The food is always great. My better half is a self proclaimed biryani connoisseur so she knows what's up when a place decides to put biryani in their name. Bawarchi does not disappoint. We normally have our mini me's in tow and the staff is always helpful. The butter chicken and saag paneer are both really good and so are the dosas. So this place is supposedly famous for the Indian version of the biryani rice dish. And this was all I had. And I didn't like it. Why? Simply because it was too spicy even though I had ordered it to be mild (which is the lowest spice level allowed in the restaurant). But, I'll say that it was well-prepared, made with good ingredients, and was presented nicely. The atmosphere of the place was also nice. Service was friendly and helpful. And upon inquiring further about the biryani, I found out belatedly that much of their biryani base is prepared ahead of time and the spice levels are hard to adjust. Their biryani mild is already set higher than mild. And a friend of mine had come back to this place three times, ordering the biryanis, and ordering it mild - and only one of those three times did it come out mild. Therefore, it seems like there's a heavy hand with spices in this location. However, I'm told that the spice levels can be easily modified and adjusted with other Indian dishes that are made from scratch upon order. So for the spice-adverse, I'd suggest avoiding the famed-biryani for the other dishes in the menu. I've yet to return, but when I do, I'll modify the ratings upon trying the other dishes. read more
