Terrible experience at Chameli in Richardson. The kitchen does not look clean at all, the roof when is raining you can see water coming out to the floor he just put a little packet !! ‍‍ and the prices have become extremely expensive for the quality you get. Even the naan bread is now almost half the size it used to be, but the price is higher absolutely unacceptable. What's even worse is the owner's attitude. When a friend of mine politely asked why the prices skyrocketed, the owner replied, "Were you in jail!? You don't know the reason." My friend felt completely humiliated. That is not how you talk to customers. The food is overpriced, the portions are smaller, the service is rude, and the whole atmosphere is uncomfortable. This is one of my favorite Indian spots! Everytime I order from here the food is always delicious and fresh! The mutton/lamb is always tender and juicy, the rice is never dry and packed with flavor! I was in Dallas again and decided to give this place another shot. They specialize in Bangladeshi food, and I assume the cook is bengali as well, but the staff answering the phone spoke English and Hindi/Urdu, and did not understand Bangla. It made me a bit nervous, as I wasn't sure if the flavor would meet my expectations, but I ordered with high hopes. We tried the Dhaka Kacchi (Goat) and Chameli Kacchi. The Dhaka Kacchi Biryani was great--exactly what we were craving and something we haven't been able to find in Austin. Was it the best I've ever had? No, but it definitely satisfied our cravings and was well-prepared overall. If you're looking for authentic Bangladeshi-style Kacchi Biryani, this is the one to get. Now, onto the Chameli Kacchi. This was more like Morog Pulao with goat. I enjoyed it, as I love the aroma of Morog Pulao and hadn't had it in years. However, if you're expecting a traditional Bangladeshi Kacchi Biryani, you'll be disappointed. Only order this if you're in the mood for Morog Pulao with goat. Lastly, a relative brought us Chameli's Goat Biryani. It was decent, though a bit on the dry side. There was a good amount of meat, which we all enjoyed, but it wasn't anything special that you couldn't find elsewhere. Fast casual place. Probably busier during lunch than dinner. The menu is massive!! Seems like a mix of Indian, Bengali, Pakastani food. Will find something for everybody. They do have some suggestions of what to try at the register. Most entrees come up with Naan or rice. The menu seems up to date on the website. Got the beef karahi ($12) with Naan. I never had this dish before. Some of the beef pieces had bone, but only a handful. I liked it. It had a bit of spice but not a lot. Was not asked what spice level I want, so I don't know if they can modify it for you. The naan was ok. I didn't love it, but a change from the usual rice. I finished the whole thing in one sitting, but I was thinking I should've saved some for later. The only thing is they don't offer water cups and it's $1 for bottled water. The biryanis were a big portion. Don't think I could've finished that in one sitting. I tried some and it seemed ok.. but I don't think I'm a big fan of biryanis in general. They have wifi widely displayed, so I could see this as a place to some work for a little if not too crowded. They were also very accommodating for a large party. The worst food I've ever had. I wanted to order from Shaahi biryani and they put their name as that on Uber eats basically false advertising as other restaurant bc it's new and popular! It was so nasty I wouldn't even feed to anyone. They put chili pepper on the mix grill and it was so dry and nasty! Great Bangladeshi restaurant with a wide variety of dishes and very friendly owners! There is wide selection of authentic Bangladeshi dishes and delicious biriyani along with specials updated throughout the week. In addition to the menu, there are always samosas, sweets, and chai ready for a quick snack at any time of day. The dining room is very clean and the atmosphere feels nice and authentic. I rediscovered it by accident because I was visiting a pretty decent and fun boba shop in the same Plaza - Boba Latte. There it was. After all these years. It's actually more Bangladeshi food than it is Indian. We enjoyed it and we recommend it. It has nothing on Meerut Kabob house (the very best place to eat in DFW) but neither does any other Indian restaurant in the country to be honest, except maybe Himalaya (Houston) and India On Wheels (Pitt). Their menu has some Indian food items but also has a good selection of Bengali food which is delicious. I'm a fish lover and they have various fish that come fried with a curry base. I devoured a whole pomfret on my own. We've tried their kaachi biryani (Friday night special), their beef curry, borhani (it was deliciously sweet, salty and spicy), daal, chicken curry, kababs, chicken roast (must have) and pulao. I don't know much about this kind of food as I am whiter than white out on copy paper but I love this place. Great use of spices and flavors. The butter chicken with naan is THE BEST. I ordered for pick-up from Chameli the other night and it was my first time trying their food. The food wasn't too pricy which is why we ordered from there on a weekday. I ordered a chicken biryani, palak paneer and butter chicken along with two naans, two vegetable samosas and a beef samosa. Total bill came up to 30$ which was good. They gave us an extra container of palak paneer by mistake but we only figured that out when we brought the food home. The food was good! The samosas were amazing, I loved it. The biryani was flavorful but only had 3-4 pieces of chicken in it and a lot of rice. Let me start off by saying that they have very good food here, and we have been here many times for the excellent biryani. When I walked in, staff appeared to be doing many of the right things to keep customers safe during the pandemic - providing hand sanitizer by the register, sanitizing pens, requiring masks, register staff wearing gloves. BUT - despite appearances, they really are not cognizant of COVID safety here, and I therefore cannot recommend anyone eat here during the pandemic. The owners have chosen not to buy plexiglass partitions, instead relying on thin plastic that billows in the breeze to serve as a barrier between customers and staff. But that's not my biggest issue with the precautions here. When I dropped in to order takeout, there was a man eating in the dining room. No big deal - except he turned out to be restaurant staff. And he went behind the counter in the middle of his meal, took a pill by placing his lips on the palm of his hand, then went back to eating. When he was done with his meal, he wiped his hands off with a napkin and went behind the counter. He did not wash his hands. At that moment, my order appeared in the window. He reached for it. I said to the man at the register - "can you ask him to wash his hands? I don't want him touching my food." The man at the register stopped him, and the man pulled his mask up, but the man behind the register didn't tell the man to go and wash his hands. The door to the kitchen swung open and I saw the staff in the kitchen. One man was preparing food wearing his mask under his chin, and the woman working with him did not have one on at all. At that point I was done. Although my food was on the counter ready to go, I asked for a refund. After protesting that his staff WAS wearing masks, and after I pointed out that one was not and the other was wearing his incorrectly, the man at the register quickly and politely processed my refund. Unwashed-Hands-Guy was still standing here behind the counter, ready to touch orders. For me, adherence to COVID protections is critical when I am going to eat out. If possible, I look in the kitchen, observing the staff and the overall environment before I place my order. If I'm not completely confident in the COVID safety, I leave. This restaurant had COVID theater going on that made me think they were taking precautions, but they are most definitely careless and not meticulous about their personal protective actions and practices. So - overall 1 star because of the lack of attention to critical COVID precautions among kitchen and some counter staff. It's a shame to leave this review, because the food is very good here and the customer service around the refund was quick and professional. But I can't in good conscience stay silent about my experience here today. I am hopeful that management will read this review and change their ways - and train/supervise their staff accordingly. I love small businesses and ethnic restaurants. I want them to survive the pandemic. I'll come back after the pandemic is over if the infection danger is past - but if COVID doesn't go away and dealing with it becomes the new normal, for the reasons I listed above, this will probably be my last visit. read more

This place is ideal if you're looking for good Indian food. Much better than chain restaurants like Masala Wok, Chameli makes everything fresh when you order so it might take a while to get your food but it's worth it. I usually order the "butter chicken" which is their name for Chicken Tikka Masala. This is one of those Indian restaurants where if you order hot you'll be sweating at the table, which I love!! Fresh naan goes great with the sauce. My friends and I also tried one of their chicken Boti rolls and it was soooo good! I hear their biryani is incredible so you can bet I'll be back to try it! read more

Let me first start by stating that I am a Bengali. I love to eat my cuisine whether it is from the Indian side or the Bangladeshi side and I have eaten a plenty in this continent. The food @ Chameli is worst and non-authentic. Firstly the worst part - Ordered Chicken Roast & Shrimp Curry with Pulao. None of them had salt in it (not less, absolutely zero) and that is not the worst part yet. The worst part is that the Chicken Roast was simply a tasteless chicken curry and the shrimp curry was one of the worst flavorless bowl of food I have ever had. The chicken and shrimp both felt stale with strange odors. Secondly the non-authentic part - Ordered Mughlai Paratha or Porota as we say. What we got is a round Quesadilla like thing which neither looks nor tastes like a Muglai Porota. Also, as stated above nor were the Chicken Roast a roast nor was the shrimp curry anything remotely Bengali. For all the other reviews left, either they are left by non-bengalees who felt it is authentic Bengali food or they are totally fake reviews. I just tried this place yesterday and I love it. By far the best biryani I had. Dhaka Kaccha biryani is my absolute favorite. This was suggested by the person at the counter and he mentioned it is the Bangladeshi wedding biryani recipe. I also loved the chameli chicken, it's an appetizer but the flavors are so fresh and rich. We also tried the chicken 65 which was also good. My order didn't take too long and I was very excited to try out this food especially since I was super hungry at the time, but boy was I disappointed. I ordered the butter chicken as that's usually my go to if I don't know much about an Indian restaurant. It already sucks that it didn't come with rice but the chicken wasn't good at all. The place we went to was closed so we drove to come here instead becauSe my other cousin was saying good about the biriyani rice. She ordered that and there was a plethora of it for $5. It was packing quite a bit of spices. Butter chicken- The picture shows a bowl of this butter chicken with rice but it came out rice-less. The sauce was good but some of the chicken pieces in the dish were dry while some were juicy. Garlic naan- All of the flavors were in the middle of the naan- I wish it was spread out evenly. Though the texture was a bit chewy, which I pref, but again- I wish the garlic was spread out vs all pooled up in the middle. $11 Customer service was meh- the guy taking my order was not friendly. He wasn't mean, per-say, he just wasn't very welcoming. I felt like I was being nuisance and taking him away from his daily job. I've been eating Indian food a long time and the dominant flavor of korma is not supposed to be salt. It is here. The chicken is hacked up into unrecognizable pieces, probably with a cleaver as there are bone fragments throughout. Asked for water with ice. Guy said he can't do it. I can see cups and a tap so yes you can. He said he can't serve it because of covid. Now I've heard some BS reasons before but this takes the cake. He just wants to sell overpriced bottled water that isn't any better.
