Nice small cozy place.. food was good and staff was kind and helpful.. can't wait to go back.

On this trip to Sandpoint, we decided to visit some new spots. Baxters on Cedar looked promising, so, we gave it a whirl. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. They do not serve hard liquor at the bar, just beer and wine. We had a couple champagne flutes and perused the menu. Our appetizer was a clam and mussel combo in broth. It looked so good we attacked it before getting a photo (as you'll see). Our main course was the steak plate, which was done to perfection. Dessert was a slice of in-house made pumpkin spice pie. The food is always good here but we came in on a hot summer day and there was no AC making it very uncomfortable. So we decided to leave and go else where. AC would dramatically improve the experience and save business. read more

Baxters has the fancy food appeal in a casual setting. We called ahead and were happy to learn we could bring our dog if we sat at one of the four outdoor tables. It was a perfect day for it. We ordered the Lobster roll and the garlic clams which came with fresh bread. My wife and I shared both. They had a nice wheat beer as well. The garlic clams stole the show for us! They were amazing and the garlic sauce was out of this world. The lobster rolls, however were lacking the fresh lobster taste we've come to expect from other seafood places. They weren't bad, just nothing special about them. Our server was good and friendly. We'd like to return to try other dishes. It looks to have plenty of potential. read more

We stopped in because the reviews seemed good and there was only 3 other people eating. We first noticed how hot it was inside. A restaurant should have at least some form of A/C. There were multiple people working and let's just say service was slow... On to the food. I had the tacos which were surprisingly decent but $18 for just 3 tacos? These were about $5-8 overpriced. My last complaint... get rid of those nasty cloths for napkins, they look and feel like they were used in the 60s and had been turned into goodwill 15 times before. Absolutely disgusting! My party of 4 went to Baxter's on St. Patrick's Day and we were told the Irish special was 3 tacos with corned beef. One of us ordered that, another the smash burger, the other the chicken bowl and, I ordered the meatloaf, which I've always thought was exceptional in the past. The smash burger and chicken bowl were ok, my meatloaf, was less than ok - nothing like I remembered having and the corned beef tacos, which I sampled, were not good at all (the meat was dark and looked unappetizing and the meat did not have the color or the flavor of corned beef at all). I want to see our town's restaurants thrive, so I sent a personal email to Baxters about this. I hope they can get a chef that can turn this around. read more

Definitely a great family friendly restaurant in downtown Sandpoint. Traci was our server and seemed as though she may have also been the owner or related to the owners. Very friendly with great suggestions. The patrons all seem to know her and shared hugs when leaving. My colleague and I stopped for lunch before visiting our customer. He ordered the Ahi Tuna Bowl which was loaded with Ahi Tuna and rice. I ordered the Portabello Burger sandwich with fries. What I learned is that you can't eat a portabello burger like a regular burger. You would need razor sharp teeth for each bite. It was easier to disassemble the sandwich and eat the portobello separately. It tasted great with the melted blue cheese. I also ordered the seafood chowder which should be their signature dish. It was loaded with seafood such as crab and I believe real lobster. It was outstanding. read more

Unfortunately it was not a memorable place. The singer that night was more background noise than anything else. Waitress was super friendly and sunny. Lobster roll was not very good. Could not really taste the lobster with what they mixed with it. The lobster bisque was also disappointing and had no real lobster flavor. Prime rib was good. Philly sandwich and jalapeno burger were great. We had blueberry lemon cake with lemon glaze for dessert and it was absolutely amazing. Seriously so moist and full of flavor but not overbearing at all. Service was great, we can't wait to go back again. read more

It's dog friendly but only 4 street tables so Carli had to wait in the car. I got the the black and blue salad and it was OK. The steak was well prepared but so tough I bent my fork trying to cut it. :-( Needed some baking soda tenderizing. The burgers are great and so was the service at the bar. Don't come here if you have kids. Came here with a party of 5, including my small children (two kids). We ordered, food was above average (I'd say a 7/10). As a prior server I am a generous tipper and when the service is good I like to tip well. But I noticed when my mom was signing the bill, that gratuity was included. My mom said don't worry about it but hr bothered me so I decided to ask. She told me "no offense, but it's because you have small kids it's kind of a restaurant standard because they make such a mess, it takes us like 15 minutes to clean up afterwards." Um, what. I read the reviews before trying Baxters and was a little anxious about some poor service reviews. We go out to eat for many reasons but one is for service. I was pleasantly surprised when we were greeted and walked to a table. The server was attentive and polite. We had a cheddar burger and jalapeño burger. Both were excellent and each came with a large amount of fries. Th interior was simple and clean. I liked the small hand towels used as napkins. I put them to a lot of use when the burger juice dripped down my fingers. They also had a nice selection of beers on tap. Bottom line is: we will be back. It's nice to have another option when we visit. read more

Stopped by on our stroll through town and it did not disappoint. The peach bourbon cider was crisp and refreshing and the bacon bleu burger with fries was cooked to perfection. Everything from the portion sizes to the wellness of the burgers based on preference was spot on. Our server was fantastic and she always made sure we were taken care of. I first visited the year they opened. Food, service, decor, and ambiance were great. A visit this April was quite the opposite. The place looked run down and almost like a place I would not eat in. The food was awful, and choices were less much and different than the original visit. The hostess was super nice. The service was extremely slow. Came here on a Friday at 2pm and while there are other patrons, it has potential of being much busier! I'm sure it picks up around 4pm or 5pm. Service was great ! My bf and I split the lobster roll- think a tuna salad or chicken salad- it's cold but it was tasty. Wow! Did not expect that. Started with the Maine lump lobster roll. It wasn't over buttery, and it wasn't over mayonnaise-ey. It was a nice combination with lobster definitely being well defined. Especially for north idaho. Entrées: chef special if beef tip with madera sauce and garlic mash potatoes or my choice: crab cakes over mash potatoes. You could go wrong with either. Follow with a red and white port. A lemon drip cake with blueberry compote and a pot de' Creme. Absolutely amazing. We will make another trip 45 mins north to Baxters!! read more

My husband and I stopped in as we were passing through. We chose this restaurant based on reviews. The service was fine, but the meal was not. I ordered a salad and a lot of it I couldn't eat because it was bad. My husband ordered the prime rib.
