Usually very friendly and professional but a bit rushed. Cute stickers on the wall for kids.

The staff works like a well oiled machine. The care I received was top notch. I feel completely comfortable, and have tremendous amount of trust. Dr Reid and Dr Silver have an excellent reputation, and I know others she has treated. She fights hard for her patients. The nurses are top notch, very attentive, work great together, always smiling, handle emergencies with quick precision. I've been super impressed. The lack of one star is due to the rest of the hospital. I honestly feel like, when they know I'm being treated my Dr Reid, they jump into action, but if I'm there for some other issue, I always run into weird scheduling issues, delays, failures to call me back. Like I said, I've only experienced that outside of the Cancer and radiation department. But no matter what, I will never go to strong hospital. I know more people who have gone to strong, and left in a body bag, then I know who have gone and walked out. I am absolutely not kidding. RGH, may have some system issues, but their Drs really care. You can see it, and feel it. Their staff tries hard, they are just really busy, and working a ton of hours. But they genuinely care. Unlike other places.

I have nothing but good things to say in respect to the providers. They made me feel well cared for and helped to manage my pain post surgery. The only difficulty I found with my stay was getting a room after surgery. It was very hard to rest and recover when waiting for hours to be taken to a room with an actual bed. The communication regarding this was frustrating, as I kept being told it was going to happen soon with no action. It was no fault of the nurse who was caring for me, as I continued to hear them call for a room to be prepared. Once this was resolved my experience improved. The room was clean and well kept. My room had its own tv and private bathroom. The food was decent and I was happy to have options to choose from if I did not want to eat the scheduled menu item for the day. Parking is paid with hourly rates.

The food she was served as well as cafeteria food was better than most. Majority of the nurses were friendly, helpful and wonderful. A couple were not quick to respond and grumpy or not very compassionate. They forgot her meal the first night which was upsetting because she had not eaten in more than 24 hours and lots of pills in her stomach. They did their best to help find the right combination of medications during her stay. The surgeon did an excellent job and stopped by to check in. Just a few hours after surgery the physical therapist, occupational therapist and dietician stopped by also. Unfortunately she stayed longer than expected and was moved to a rehab facility due to her complicated recovery. But that had nothing to do with the surgeon or aftercare, just her other health complications that prolonged her getting up amd moving enough to go home.

Warning for Patients with Rare Conditions, Disabilities, or Trauma History…read more I was recently treated at Highland Hospital while experiencing an autonomic crisis related to my Riley-Day Syndrome (Familial Dysautonomia)--a rare neurological condition that requires urgent, specialized care. Despite telling staff repeatedly that I was in crisis, I was dismissed, denied care, and discharged unsafely. The nursing staff falsely documented that I "transferred myself into a wheelchair without assistance." In reality, my brother physically lifted me into the wheelchair and into the car because I was unable to move safely. That's medical record falsification. I asked for a patient advocate multiple times, as is my legal right. I was told no one was available. That is a direct violation of The Joint Commission's requirements and NYS Patient Bill of Rights. I also asked for clear communication about my labs and vitals. I was denied access to my own medical information while in crisis. I was denied my legal right to submit a statement or correction to my record in their MyChart system. Rochester Regional allows this--why doesn't URMC? Is it to avoid accountability? Highland Hospital failed me. They ignored my diagnosis. They ignored my lived experience. They gaslit me and endangered my life. I'm filing formal complaints with: * The Joint Commission * NYS Office of Professional Medical Conduct * HHS Office for Civil Rights * Disability Rights NY * CMS If you are disabled, medically complex, or have a trauma history, be extremely cautious. This is not a safe facility.

The nursing staff and doctors when I was there, were awesome. They were a huge help and reassurance in a time of new adventures as this was my first child. The facility is modern and very nice, and the staff was attentive while allowing us space to enjoy the first days with our new baby. Maybe this is typical at other hospitals but I was pretty impressed with the food. They had menus for me to order and while it did feel like cafeteria style food. It was much more enjoyable than I would have expected. The staff here really seems to care, and made my experience pleasant.

When we are in pain, sick, and vulnerable. When we are where we don't want to be, but need to be to receave the care and treatment for us to live and get well. This was the case for me on April 13th-19th when I found myself in a serious medical situation that could have, if not for the timely intervention of the doctors, techs, PA's, and nurses, seen me lose my foot at best and very likely my life at worst. My foot was swollen up like a grapefruit, discolored (black, purple, and red), and was agony to the touch - in short, it was severely infected. From the first moment of my arrival via mercy flight ambulance I was treated with care, compassion, and the quick thinking professionalism that saved me from a very unpleasant set of possible outcomes had the treatment been delayed even a moment longer. What stands out the most in my memory of this experience was how everyone took the time to not just treat me like a bed number, but as a person - I was made to feel like I mattered and assured every step of the way that they were going to help however they could. Moreover, as I was stabilized and admitted to the third floor, I was introduced to some of the most caring, compassionate, dedicated, and professional Healthcare professionals I've ever met. They cared about not just getting me better but caring about how I felt, my dignity, my feelings, and my comfort. From the moment I was brought into a room to the moment I was discharged , I felt safe, cared for, and confident in the treatment I received. And I will be forever grateful to every one of them. Some shoutouts to some amazing people who helped me through a difficult time: ER Nurse Luanne - she was there for my wife, who couldn't be there with me, keeping her in the loop with updates via phone calls. Moreover, as my ankle was being lanced she got me through it - as the numbing drugs didn't fully kick in in time to spare me some the worst of that experience. 3rd floor nurse John - amazing person, made some of my most uncomfortable moments bearable. 3rd floor Patient care tech Joan - she was the first to great me, and always there with smiles, encouragement, and kindness just when I needed it most. I won't forget those gingerale and ice cream treats that got me through some hard moments and gave me bright spots to look forward to during some nights that were very long and uncomfortable to endure. 3rd floor Nurse Kristen - thank you for the laughs when I didn't think I had it in me. 3rd floor Nurse Carey - always a bright light, great humor, and kept me going through the worst of it. Dr. Loffrado - no words can express how grateful I am for the surgery that likely saved my foot and possibly my life.

The second birth better than the first in some ways. Epidural always seemed to have had a student doing mine for both births. I rejected students to be present during my delivery the second time around. (First time it was multiple of them and I wanted something more personable) epidural wore off with my first baby, and I tore mildly... later would complain about how they stitched me. Second epidural lasted the whole delivery. Barely felt a thing. Doctor said she wished all her births were that easy. My children's father complained of uncomfortable bedding for the person assisting mom and not having supplies readily available. Meals were always delivered on time. Pretty decent for hospital food. Social work helped a lot the second time with baby supplies and setting up an appointment for further help with baby supplies at Asbury House. Sometimes people who would randomly come in and out were unfriendly but I'd focus more-so on the friendly ones anyway. Thanks Nurse Andrea Rose & Katie - they were attending nurses for both of my sons which was such a delight to see full circle since my first birth. Entering the hospital can be confusing, our first time around I was wheeled up to triage. Second time around, experienced, I waddled myself up there. But the information desk is pretty obvious, there's always people around to help and point you to where you need to go, they may not always be friendly but as long as you are attended to.

Then she got stuck at McCormick Transitional Care Center at Unity, and wow, what a horrible, horrible experience, the result of which is the need for a second and third even more invasive surgeries to repair the damage she sustained at this facility. First of all, the nursing staff and physician's assistant at McCormick TCC failed miserably to manage my mother's pain. My mom was in absolute agony, crying out for help, with woefully inadequate pain medication. I should not have had to do this, but I repeatedly explained the fragile and traumatic nature of my mom's surgery along with my mom's medical history and efforts at pain management... and I literally begged them to help her. It did no good. They did not increase her meds to appropriate and recommended levels, they did not adequately take care of her bodily needs, nor did they take measures to insure her comfort or safety. She was often left in a soiled bed, crying in pain and humilation. I AM NOT EXAGERATING. The aids would literally ignore her call light and her cries of pain, or simply step in and turn the light off, telling her coldly that she had to wait for help or meds or whatever she needed. In desparation, my mother would try to get up and get to the bathroom on her own. There was no bed alarm, no safety measures in place at all... nothing. And as a result, Mom fell more than once, after spinal fusion surgery!! It was awful, frightening, dangerous and ultimately devastating to her recovery . I told the administrator after the first fall that I felt my mom was NOT SAFE at McCormick, and the administrator assure me she would launch an investigation and make sure this didn't happen again... but it did happen again and again. My mom fell several time, each time she suffered obvious setbacks in what little progress she had made in her recovery. There were at least three falls and "investigations," and yet I would come in and see the aids chatting or hanging out down the hall totally ignoring my mother's call light. Or we would wait more than 30 minutes to an hour for someone to respond after calling for help, and we often had to go get someone to help her. And when the aids finally showed up, many were very rude or unkind to her. Or they would simple step in and turn off her call light, informing her coldly that she would have to wait for her meds or for help getting to the bathroom or whatever. It was awful. My mom was in misery. She felt like she was dying, and we did too. So finally I call her surgeon to inform him of what was going on, and he was NOT happy to hear how his patient was being treated. After the surgeon got involved, the PA did finally relent and increase my mom's pain meds according to her doctor's instructions for a multi-modal pain management approach, which should have been in place from day one. Hence my mom was able to engage in some rehab, but it was too late. The damage was already done, a fracture on the lowermost vertebra. I know it happened at McCormick. I mean, one time my mom fell with an aid standing right there but apparently making no effort to support or help her with the toileting. And another time, she fell so hard that they took her down an xray. We recently did a CT scan with die and her surgeon found a fracture at the lowermost vertebra of the lumbar region. This area should be fused by now, but due to the fracture, the pins are now loose and possibly touching the nerve, which explains her excruciating nerve pain. My mom's fusion surgery has thus failed as a result of the movement and instability cause by the fall and fracture, which is so upsetting. She should be recovered and walking by now all but pain free. But instead she's pretty much confined to her bed and in constant pain. Now my mom must undergo not just one but TWO consecutive surgeries, entering from the front and the back, in order to repair the damage, replace the pins, secure the spine all the way down to the sacrum. This is an even more invasive and brutal surgery than the first one, and I fear she will not survive it. Needless to say we will not be taking her back to Unity Hospital for this surgery. And McCormick Transitional Care Center and/or Park Ridge should be investigated and shut down in my opinion. For we were not the only ones to experience neglect and abuse at this facility. There was one poor lady confined to her wheelchair and kept in the dining area all day everyday. They would not let her go back to her room and lie down because she was "a fall danger" like my mom, and they wanted to keep an eye on her. Sadly, if my mom could have sat in a wheelchair they might of parked her in the dining area too and kept a closer eye on her, but that wasn't an option for after surgery... and i don't believe it's legal to prevent someone from going to their room.
