Jonathan came for a water shut-off as he was one of the designated plumber contracted by our HOA. The total time it took to shut-off water and turn it back on was less than 1 hour as we had contractors in house to do the work inside of the unit. In the end, we were charged for 1.5hours because he charged 30 for him to driving here from his originating location at the same rate as doing the work, which is $135. I understood if he had to go to a job site and the job site is not ready for him to do work, he should charge a minimum fee. But charging $67.50 for driving to work... Why don't we all do that with our employees! Technically, he is probably fine. But if you were going to use him, I suggest you ask clearly what he meant by "travel time" and how he is going to charge for that. Had I gotten that clarified before hand, I would have definitely used someone else. read more

I have been having ongoing problems with my two toilets. I called Dave's Plumbing previously. They came out here and charged me $160 for a 5 minute job, and then try to "upsell" me into a $500 repair that is totally unrelated. 6 weeks after Dave's Plumbing "fixed" my problem, my toilets started acting up again. This time I called Harry of Bay Plumbing. Boy, WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I called Monday morning. Harry called me back within a couple of hours, and he came to my home that very afternoon! He took the time to carefully diagnose the issues. Rather than recommended costly repair right off the bat, he stepped me thru the troubleshooting steps. He finally diagnosed the problem to a improperly installed wax ring. I had him reinstall both toilets for me. He spent 2.5 hours there and charged me a very reasonable $105 per hour. The much cheaper that Dave's Plumbing, and more importantly, Harry was very careful in diagnosing the problem to make sure the root cause was fixed. I showed Harry that "issue" that Dave's plumbing pointed out to me that required a $500 fix. Harry said the issue is a non-issue and is not even close to requiring a fix. Harry was quick to respond, timely, professional, and most importantly - HONEST. He is also reasonably priced. He even left both toilets sparkling clean! One of them was pretty nasty having had the "stuff" stewed in it for a couple of days. After Harry left, I gathered my cleaning supplies and prepared to clean a nasty bowl. When I open the lid, imagine my pleasant surprise that Harry had already cleaned the bowl sparkling white! Thank you, Harry! read more

I called on Monday and Harry was out in the field. I was told he would call me back that evening. I did not get a call back. I called again on Wednesday, and then again on Friday. On Friday I was told he was very busy and did not give estimates. I asked him to call me back anyway to discuss the job. He did finally call me back later on Friday, but he does not give people estimates, so basically either I can hire him with no estimate or forget it. What kind of a contractor works this way? Perhaps he does great work, but I'm looking for someone to do a significant project and it sounds like he's really more of a fix-it guy. That's OK, but because he didn't get back to me I've lost a week waiting for him. read more

We had a cracked p-trap and were unable to replace the parts as they were outdated. (This was on a Sunday). We contacted Harry at Bay Plumbing based on numerous stellar Yelp reviews. He returned our call first thing in the morning and gave us a "window" of when he would arrive to fix the problem. His assistant notified us that he was on his way. Harry fixed the problem in less than an hour and updated how the pipes connected. By doing this, if we had a similar issue in the future, we could fix it easier and save money! Once again saved by Yelp... I called and waited for Roto Rooter. They promised me a technician within 2 hours. No one even showed or called me within the 2 hours...so I yelped for a local plumber. "Bay Plumbing" had all good reviews. So I set you a time with Harry...the lady of the phone was extremely nice, pleasant and professional! I explained her the problem and she told me that Harry had the sump pump I needed and he will come ready in case the pump need to be replace...go figure a plumber that will come ready to work rather than for an estimate! This is the first time I am using the help from Bay plumbing. The last time I called them they referred me to Dale Plumbing (another good firm). But this time, I called them and Harry was available. Harry is a solo guy in this firm. Kathy handles the phone calls/ scheduling etc. So often times if you have an emergency and if he is not able to attend to it, they will refer to Dale. Harry is a good professional. And his troubleshooting, analysis and solution skills are at consummate levels. So his workmanship is great. He is also a friendly professional. So I am very happy with the work. We had a broken pipe right behind the laundry (washer) waste water outlet and he had to cut through the wall and replace a pipe. This was done in under 90 minutes. He charged me $125 per hour. And what I did not like is... he came in at 9:40 and stayed until noon (he was in his car by noon, all packed up). And he charged me for 3 hours. I was expecting that he would charge for 2.5 hours. I did not haggle at the end. But next time, I will talk about this upfront (and I suggest that you do too). Other than that, I am very happy with their services. I recommend them without reservation. read more

Had a leak in the piping between our well and the front sprinkler system. Called Bay Plumbing on a Friday at around 11am, asking if they could get someone out that afternoon (since I was leaving on vacation the next day). Jonathan was able to come out by 2pm that same day, and I appreciated that I got a phone call from the office manager letting me know he was on his way a few minutes before he arrived. I called Bay Plumbing based on the reviews here at Yelp. Jonathan is the new owner, (Jonathan worked for Harry, then Harry retired and sold the business to Jonathan). I am just finishing a bathroom remodel and still had to install the pedestal sink. The plumber who did the rough drain plumbing didn't set the sanitary tee far enough back into the wall so it stuck out . The expensive and beautiful trim parts wouldn't work and it was the wrong size ( needed 11/4" and he installed 11/2"). Jonathan was very knowledgable and suggested a few different options. The best one involved resetting the tee, which meant getting into the wall from behind so i wouldn't have to ruin the beautiful tile job. I told him I would open up the wall and he said that this was the best way to alleviate the problem. He cut out the old tee and reduced the drain inside the wall so the tee was flush with the finished tile. Once this was done, Jonathan made quick work of the job saving me $$$$! He installed the new drain and hooked up the water supplies. Checked for leaks (NONE!). Start to finish in THREE HOURS! I still have to patch the wall in the bedroom and do a little caulking, all of which he said he would do but I can do that. Again saving me $$$$! We would not recommend Bay Plumbing. While the technical work was done well, the overall experience was not the best. Jonathan first came by to do what he said would be a five minute free inspection of the problem, which he then charged us for (30 minutes total). We then scheduled an appointment for the following week, and he showed up 1 hour late but charged us for that missing hour. When he finally arrived, he took 1.5 hours for a job that should have taken no longer than 30 minutes total (based on both what his office told us and the opinion of a different plumbing company). He continually tried to extend his time by making small talk and trying to find additional problems to fix. Moreover, he clearly overcharged for very basic parts, as well as for travel time. Finally, after we called Bay Plumbing to inquire about our bill, Jonathan never called us back. read more

Had an broken water pipe on a saturday morning, water was pouring out from the side of the house. Roto-rooter said it would be 2-3 hrs before they could come and wouldn't give me any quotes over the phone. I called Bay Plumbing and Jonathan was at my house within 30 minutes. He was very thoughtful and deliberate about figuring out exactly where the problem was....I thought we were going to have to cut some holes in the wall or at least go crawling around under the house. He was able to find the problem (a cracked, leaky pipe leading the outside of the house) and fixed it in an hour! He could have easily spent 2-3 hrs crawling around, cutting holes trying to find the problem. He was honest and did not try to sell me more services. He's honest and will talk you through the problem and the various alternatives for fixes. He can also buy materials for you. Harry did a fantastic job installing the toilet and pedestal sink in our new bathroom. The entire Bay Plumbing experience was fantastic. When I called Harry, he picked up the phone on the first try and we were able to quickly schedule some time for him to come install our new fixtures. Harry was very careful in our sparkling new bathroom and even laid down a cloth to rest all of his tools so as not to scratch our new tile. When he began installing the pedestal, he quickly noticed that there was a manufacturer's defect and that the sink wouldn't be level with regular installation. He quickly found a solution using shims to fix the problem without compromising the stability of our sink. finding a good plumber can be daunting so i used Yelp 1st. what a surprise find, i call harry & leave a message with my problem. a leaking internal fire sprinkler within the house. he calls back the next day & i explain the problem. he actually calls back. most contractors are so busy they forget customer service. i'm pretty good with most mechanical projects so he talks me thru it. he says it would run me a 100-150 to fix so he walks me through the project in a precise manner. it took me a half hour total time moving at a snails pace. i can't think of any contractor ever doing that. he has any of my future plumbing business. thank to yelp & the people who contribute. read more

Unless you know a little bit about plumbing yourself, steer clear of Harry. He may know his trade, but he has no qualms about taking advantage of someone who doesn't know anything about plumbing. I called him to come out and take a look at my toilet which was making a sound like it was constantly running. Based on a quick internet search, I was hoping this was an issue with the flapper needing to be replaced. Harry took a glance at my toilet and told me I'd either need to buy a $350 retrofit kit or replace the whole toilet for $450. I wasn't completely surprised to hear about needing a new toilet, as we've had issues before. What got to me was that he fiddled around with the toilet for about 5 or 10 minutes (tightening a screw, no removing of parts) and implied that he had "temporarily" fixed the running toilet issue and charged me $125 for the 10 minutes. I didn't realize just how temporary, until my son went to use the bathroom right after, and it immediately started with the running noise again! When I called Harry back, he said the best he could do was pro-rate the $125 towards either a new toilet or the retrofit kit. At this point, I was getting a sinking feeling in my stomach, which became worse when I looked online and found the toilet he was trying to sell to me for $450 listed for $128 at Home Depot. When my neighbor came by to take a look at my toilet, he pointed out that the plastic part connecting the arm of the float ball to the ball cock was cracked in several places. Without replacing that, there was no way to stop the toilet from running. My neighbor went down to Home Depot and purchased a couple of parts for $12, in under an hour the toilet was no longer making the running noise and was flushing properly again. This was a temporary fix, I still need to replace the toilet. But it was a true temporary fix. I understand that a plumber has to charge for coming out, but I am paying for the plumber's time and expertise to actually perform basic plumbing skills. Harry did not provide that service. I am saddened that someone who has plumbing expertise would take advantage of someone who obviously did not, and was paying for that knowledge and service. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Also he left me waiting for him in my very cold house for 2.5 hours without even calling to tell me he wasn't coming (I had to call the office to find this out), so then I had to spend *another* day sitting around my cold house waiting for him to come. My heat is back on (after 2 visits, totaling $500), but if it breaks again, I'M NOT CALLING BAY PLUMBING AGAIN. Save yourself the aggravation; call someone else. read more

I was referred to them by Pelican water filters to help install a replacement filter. Called and scheduled an appointment. An hr later received a call back telling me that they have to cancel me as their notes say "no service" for my location. I have never used them before, although had requested an estimate for the initial install of the whole house water system, but decided to go with a different company. The office manager could not explain what that "no service" was and where it came from... but insisted that they will refuse my request for services.. read more

Decided to use Bay Plumbing to do a small job - replace a few valves in my kitchen and bathroom. The small job blossomed into almost 6hr of work (and a bill of ~$1000). The valve changing didn't take much time, but Jonathan looked into everything plumbing related in my apartment. He fiddled with my drains, knob covers, old putty work, and wanted to work on all these other things. So between the time it took him to replace valves, fiddle with everything and repeatedly wander to his truck for more tools, I ended up with a sad and surprisingly large bill for what I thought was a small task. read more

I never get down on folks who roll up their sleeves and get dirty, but Jonathan took a long time on everything he attempted, took on jobs I didn't want done (e.g., removing and rinsing out a furnace filter that wasn't very dirty), didn't finish much of anything, saying he'd come back in a week (charging me for two visits), and left a toilet in worse shape than he found it by replacing a flapper with a different size flapper that is too large (he didn't bring a full replacement set). Then he charged me $21 for the $4 flapper and $75.20 (??) for another part that sells on Amazon for $25. When I called to complain about the parts charge of the $366 bill, all he could say is that he bases his pricing on OSH, which made no sense. I called Harry after calling both Rapid Rooter and Drain Dr for a slow drain. I have had this problem before and knew it only needed to be snaked. Neither Rapid Rooter or Drain Dr. will give you a quote over the phone, but insist on sending a plumber for a "no obligation free estimate" (read: we will apply our high pressure sales techniques since we have already come out to your house). Rapid Rooter first quoted me $200 to snake the drain which I said was too much. The plumber then spent the next 15 min negotiating with me, got down to $150, then looked at the problem and told me he'd have to climb up on my roof to fix it (for an additional fee of course). I said no deal, and called Harry. Harry charged $105 per hour, snaked the drain from the outside, and when that did not solve the problem came back and did it from the inside. Problem solved. If you don't like dealing with plumbers that lie and try to overcharge you, I recommend calling bay plumbing. He's courteous and efficient, and you don't feel like you have just been slimed. read more

When I first called and left a message he returned my call promptly and gave me a rough estimate of the cost. This is someone I found through their stellar yelp reviews, and after using their services, Yelp is right on the money. I got quick same-day service, even though my project was a little "unusual" (adding a second faucet to my kitchen sink, so I had a dedicated dishwasher hookup), and the price was reasonable. While this could have been a do-it-yourself job for me, it was worth it to have it done right by someone who knows what they're doing, and had all the parts at the ready, including better supply lines than my apartment originally came with. (Besides, you don't want to make a water-related mistake when you're on the second floor!!!). read more
