I had a truly wonderful experience with Bay State! I bought my first apartment a few years ago and always knew I wanted to remodel the kitchen - it was very small and enclosed, and not my style. When I called Bay State to come out for a quote, they really understood my vision and my parameters and made me feel completely comfortable with the project. Being a first time homeowner and a younger woman, I did have some reservations about being upcharged or taken advantage of. Bay State completely quelled any hesitations I had. They were completely entirely and on board to do my remodeling on a budget. The best part about my experience with Bay State is that we not only stayed on budget, but my kitchen looks like the farthest thing from a budget project! Yuri, the project manager, was truly a rockstar. I was not staying at my apartment for the duration of the work, but Yuri constantly stayed in contact and was always honest about what was going on with the work, timeline, etc. Almost every job naturally has a few hiccups, but Yuri always had options to work around them and to make sure that I was 100% happy with the results. Yuri was always available by text or call whenever I had questions, and he was extremely patient with my endless questions. For a quick example of how great Yuri is, I had a very small amount of 2 walls that needed to be painted. Twice the paint store gave me the wrong color, which Yuri realized when it went up on the wall. I didn't think I'd have time to figure out what the issue was (whether I gave the paint store the wrong color, if they mixed it wrong, etc), so I told Yuri not to worry about it, and I could paint it on my own later on. When all the work was just about done, Yuri called me and said he just couldn't leave the paint like that because he wanted to make sure they took care of every last detail. They did repaint the walls the correct color, which was a minor thing but really shows how diligent and great Yuri is. Marcio also did incredible work. There are so many little things that don't jump out at you right away, but when you do notice them, it's truly a testament to how diligent these guys are. For example, I was really impressed that they tiled pretty far up behind my corner cabinets, that probably nobody would even notice unless you purposely looked up under there. It really goes to show that they don't cut any corners. From a coordination standpoint, Roger was always available to answer my questions and was extremely helpful in giving me information about vendors, when to order materials, where to get the best deals while still getting a quality product, etc. Being on a budget and it being my first remodel, I really appreciated that guidance. Overall, I would highly recommend Bay State for any remodeling projects. I am beyond thrilled with the result, and can't thank them enough for all of their hard work!! read more

Bay State came to the rescue when I needed a quick bathroom remodel on a condo I purchased in Boston, even though I live in California. They fit me in to their schedule and did a great job navigating the issues considering Covid and kept me updated even though I was on the other side of the country the whole time. I was so excited to find this company and read their excellent reviews. I was equally disappointed when they turned a new customer down from the first call. Their website indicates that they replace bathtubs, so I gave them a call asking for bathtub replacement and the lady told me that they do not do 'partial work, only complete remodeling'. It's kind of odd that they have refinishing services and yet the lady claimed that they only do remodeling. It seems to me that this company is only interested in big projects (=big bucks). Or they are too busy to take 'small' customers. I probably used the wrong phrase by saying we are looking to replace our bathtub. I should have said we are remodeling our bathroom... really disappointed how they would turn a new customer down like that! read more

Baystate refinishing performed the bathroom wall tile reglazing and did a very professional job. There were some minor issues with cleanup towards the end of job but we called Ray and he took care of these issues immediately. Called to schedule a quote for a rebuild/remodel for my condo that was destroyed by water damage... was told that because the demo was already done they wouldn't work on my unit, despite the demo having had to happen ASAP by the mitigation company to limit mold from water damage. Apparently it makes no difference and no rationale give. I'd understand more if I'd started with a different rebuild company that did the demo and then changed my mind, but that's not the case. read more

Bay State and their entire team did an outstanding job with my kitchen project. It was a complete gut and remodel and involved extensive engineering work due to the removal of two load-bearing walls. We could not be happier with the results. Sabrina worked with us to pick out our cabinets, and even though they were backordered, she encouraged us to wait to get the ones we really wanted. Clara and Andreina were always readily available when we had questions and were quick to respond. David was great to work with as well, and did a fantastic job coordinating the project. Marcio was on site often, making sure that everything was done to our liking. We were especially thrilled with all of Paulo's work. He is one of the best carpenters we have ever worked with. Bait and switch, BUYER BEWARE. Based on the yelp reviews we called BSR for a small tile job (60 sq ft kitchen backsplash) in our condo. Things got off to a somewhat rocky start as when we gave them the specs for the job over the phone the guy quoted us $700 for just the installation. Mistake #1 on their part and probably should have been a red flag for me, who quotes a tile job over the phone? The initial guy on the phone couldn't schedule the job so they had to call back....when they called back the job was suddenly $850. Okay, alarm bells were going off but they were willing to work with us on the install date so we were willing to eat the additional cost. The job was scheduled for a Monday so my wife takes the day off work to meet them at 8:00 am. By 9:30, when nobody had showed, she calls. A scheduling mistake on their end and they can't make it but can come Tuesday. So on Tuesday I take the day off to meet them. They actually show up on Tuesday but they don't have the necessary equipment to do the job, they have to come back on Wednesday. That's not the worst part, the job is more complicated than he thought. There were actually cabinets and electrical outlets in the kitchen that they were going to have to work around. Really? When we told you it was a 60 sq ft kitchen backsplash you didn't think there would be cabinets and outlets? Furthermore, you were going to charge me $850 to install 60 sq ft of 12" x 24" tile (that's ~$30 / tile for installation) that required no cutting? So needless to say they were going to charge more. Who knows what it was going to cost, I ushered them out of my house before we got to that point. Lesson learned on my part, do not let anyone quote the job over the phone. As for BSR, if your time is not important and you aren't concerned that their quotes are worthless then take your chances. read more

We had planned a bathroom remodel and had received quotes from several companies. These quotes were quite high and there were several companies that indicated that this would be a difficult job. We had Ray, David and Jonathan came out from Bay State and they assured us that this project could be easily done. They expertly discussed what they could do and quoted us a price so reasonable that we decided to do our Kitchen and a second bathroom, all for a price less than some companies had quoted just for the bathroom. One thing that impressed us is how much communication occurred leading up to as well as during the project. They want everything to be perfect and they take pride in that. The staff included Marcio, Yuri, Ari, Jonathan, Rogerio, David and a few others when the need arose. All of these guys are expert craftsman and their work is impeccable. They were always timely and responded to issues immediately. They even helped to navigate an issue with the neighbor during the renovations. They made sure that everything was exactly how we wanted it and had a lot of creative solutions to unexpected findings (we had a brick wall in our kitchen that we hadn't anticipated). They integrated this into the design and it is now the focal point of our kitchen. The design and the work is top notch. The results are more than we could have hoped for. Our bathroom is a sanctuary and is simply dazzling. The kitchen is so much more functional and appealing. We honestly couldn't have been happier with the results. So I'm not writing this review because of the work that was done but because of the work this company refused to do. I called to have someone come out and quote a bathroom remodel - new floors, new drywall, tile bathtub, and install a new vanity. The woman on the phone said it wasn't a "full and complete" remodel and they didn't do this kind of work. I'm renovating 2 rental apartments in my multifamily home. This includes new kitchens, refurbished hardwood floors, new light fixtures, new bathroom vanities and a new look for the bathroom tiles and bath tubs with the help of tile glazing. I received quotes for the tile glazing from 2 companies, and Bay State's pricing was better. I received the 4 service dates I requested. The technician who services my 4 bathrooms was Yuri. He arrived when he said he would each day. He was polite, respectful and really knew his trade well. He is a diligent hard worked. Several of my bathrooms had damaged grout, and Yuri skillfully repaired this for a small adder to the bill, and it was well worth it. The end results exceeded my expectations. My bathrooms were transformed in a day from an odd brown color to gleaming white with perfect grout. My friends who have seen the results are also amazed at how good the tiles and tubs look now. They look new. I will be calling Bay State again for future work, and I'll request Yuri to be the technician on my job. read more

From my first inquiry it was clear that these guys have a lot of pride in what they do. I really appreciated Ray's blunt honesty about what a proper refinish would take. They were not going to cut any corners and that is exactly what you need for a remodel on a 100 year old bathroom. The walls in the shower were soft and falling apart, the sink and toilet leaked, and the layout was off. I called Ray for an estimate. Bay State Remodeling has been a total pleasure to work with from start to (even after) completion. Like everyone else in New England, I had a lot of damage to my bathroom from both ice dams and also a pipe bursting from the unit above mine imploding my bathroom ceiling. I decided it was time to do a full remodel, down to the studs (keeping the tub only). I got 4 quotes from 4 different sources and they were the only one's that were reasonable and in line with what my expectations were. They started on time and although they initially quoted 3-4 weeks, I set my expectation to 6 weeks which it ended up being. The delay was out of their control as the town I live in requires so many inspections. They were so professional, nice, helpful, and very communicative. They came and refinished my shower and it looks great. Of note, I had another shower refinished by another company and the fumes were so toxic, I had a headache for days. bay state uses a special process that produces no noxious odors. I just had my tub refinished this past Thursday. I was nervous going into this, as it's the first time I hire for this type of service and wasn't familiar with this company at all. But from my first call to make the appointment I felt pretty much at ease. The appointment was within a week of my call, not bad as I needed time to get ready for it. They have great attention to detail, they were genuinely concerned about my budget and time frame, and they even came back and fixed a couple of minor points after the job was complete! Marcio, Rogerio and David were very patient and competent and genuinely cared about the job, and AJ was great at tile and even drank my terrible coffee! David was constantly in contact via email, and modified and adjusted paperwork for my insurance company a couple of times without a problem. Their plumber, John, was great, too. So in a pinch I needed to get a shower stall refinished completely and fast for a unit that I am the property manager for in Allston. I searched around yelp for reviews of companies to try to find the best option for the owner. I found my way to Bay State Refinishing and was able to get them in within a couple days notice (others were weeks away or unable to commit to the job). I was able to speak with Ray, one of the owners I believe, and he walked me through the process in order to get things set up in a timely manner. The process was quick (couple hours) and completed to satisfaction for sure. My only reason for not having a 5 star was the price was a little higher than some competitors and that I was not made aware that I needed to scrape and clean the shower stall beforehand. Otherwise they were willing to do it for a reasonable fee, but I wish that was made more clear to me prior to the appointment. Minimal gripes considering the urgency with which I needed the job done and the quality of work that they did. Would certainly not hesitate to recommend. read more

I used Baystate refinishing for my bathroom re-finishing. Overall I'm happy with the work and price. Scheduling was easy and they were flexible with last minute changes due to work. Yuri came on-time and overall was respectful with my home. I've worked with a number of contractors and some treat your home like a backlot washroom. The actual work looks good. For those wondering I don't think you could tell the tub and tiles were refinished. I have no complaints. I waited two months to write the review to see if there would be any issues and two months later everything is holding up. I would follow somebody else's comments to remove all the bathtub fixtures prior to the work being done. After reading others comments I did the same and it creates a much more cleaner look. I have another bathroom in my home that needs refinishing and I'll be calling on them again. read more

Today is Friday and I wouldn't be able to shower until Tuesday if not Wednesday. Bay State has been nothing but a waste of time and a huge inconvenience to me and my family. Bay State Refinishing offered an Angie's Big Deal for bathroom refinishing, including floors (removing & replacing toilet to facilitate) and refinishing tile. In my specific case, Bay State removed the toilet, laid new tile flooring, added a bit of height to the threshold to compensate for the floor height, and refinished the tiles covering the bottom 4' of the walls all the way around (tub & shower were already updated and not touched for this project). Since the small white and crookedly laid floor tile with its grungy old grout and the 4" square ivory-with-brown-speckles tiles wrapped around the lower half of all the walls in the bathroom were my largest complaints about my bathroom, this deal was perfect. The bathroom is small, with plaster walls (1920 build), which means anything involving the removal of the wall tiles would likely leave large holes or require complete removal and replacement of the walls -- refinishing was an option that I hadn't really considered before this. Bay State was very responsive, fielded questions from me before and after I purchased the Big Deal, and scheduled the work quickly. Ray was on site for part of the job to ensure things moved quickly and were done correctly. The new floor tile (12" tiles) made a huge difference in the look/feel of the bathroom, and is installed well. After a rest day for the tile to set, the team was back to refinish the wall tiles. The process is a bit fume-y, even with the exhaust system set up, but that's to be expected. The finish is great -- bright while tiles that no longer look dingy. It also helped reduce how noticeable some, uh, less optimal tile installation was (by some previous owner of the house) around the corners. Since the remove/replace for the toilet was part of the price, I opted to buy a new toilet, which they installed for me. I separately bought a new vanity which I thought I could install myself, but should have had them do while they were on site. ;) Overall, the bathroom looks massively upgraded for way less than it would have cost to do a "remodel," and I couldn't be happier with the result. I've already recommended Bay State Refinishing to my sister and a colleague. read more
