I just recently went to New Orleans so I was craving crawfish. I did a little research and heard this spot was the best in DFW. Now, I don't have any other spot to compare to but after last night I don't need to try another spot. Delicious!!!! Ordered 2lbs & added garlic butter

I went to Bayou Cat with friends because I really wanted crawfish. I got crawfish, shrimp, and a blue crab. The prices were fair and reasonable. I do like crawfish with a sauce and the ones here didn't have a sauce so I didn't like them as much as I like the ones with sauce and the shrimp were bland. I did like the byob part of this restaurant.

The line? LONG. The service? FAST. The quality? AMAZING. I wish they had more seating but we asked if we could barrow someone's unused seats and they let us! They call by number but don't cut that line, someone will for sure tell you if you're cutting (which is impossible since it's by number, but I guess it's principle.)

I had been wanting to experience this restaurant for over a year now. I had fallen in love with the Louisiana style crawfish boil (without the sauces/ gravy type substance). So many Louisiana natives have spoken highly about this location, insinuating that this location was as close to Louisiana style crawfish that you'd find in the DFW, but also have always mentioned how busy and crowded they always are, and that's what's always made me a little hesitant, the crowd . Some have even described/ compared the line wait to a line for a busy night club on a weekend. I just couldn't fathom the thought of waiting in a line wrapped around the building to get food, especially in this Texas heat. After seeing a couple of people i follow on Instagram, TikTok and even some of my fellow Yelp users mention their amazing experiences with the food here. I finally gave in and decided to make an appearance. I arrived early in the afternoon, trying to avoid traffic and still found it to be a little busy but tolerable. I'm familiar with shopping center that it sits in because I use to frequent one of the pho restaurants in the same center . I found parking quickly and got in the line which was moving really fast, thankfully . While waiting in line I noticed a couple of paper signs taped to the windows , in my opinion it looked kind of tacky but understood why they were necessary. After placing my order ( 2lbs of crawfish, 1/2 lbs of shrimp, potatoes, corn and a sausage for $26), I received my ticket #172. I sat at a table close to the pick up table and the hand sink. It Could have been where I chose to sit but It smelt like old mop water, and it was really hot in there, not sure how others were able to comfortably dine in. Immediately after sitting down ticket #162 was called, again I was ticket #172. The ticket numbers were NOT being called in order, and i assumed that that may have had something to do with what people were ordering. After close to an hour i realized that they were calling ticket numbers in the 200's. I got up to inquire about my order and was told that my food had already been picked up. How? when I was sitting there the entire time waiting . Initially the lady I spoke with who i think may have been the manager, tried to insinuate that I stepped outside , but she stepped to the back to review the surveillance footage and she admitted that she did in fact see me there sitting and waiting the entire time and that some man walked up and grabbed my order and quickly left . It wasn't a mistake, because the man never got in line to order. I wish she were able to provide me with even just a screenshot of the individual, because I would have loved to expose /post his dishonest behind on my social medias lol .. However, she did apologize for the mix up. Quickly remade my order and even added an extra pound of crawfish and a full pound of shrimp instead of the half pound that i had ordered. Now let's get into the greatness that lied within my boil bag lol.. when I tell yall that was the best tasting crawfish I've had in my life , It had me considering packing all my belongings and moving to Louisiana lol jk., I ordered extra juicy and spicy as it was highly suggested in other reviews that I read . The flavor was amazingly on point . The only disappointment was the size of the crawfish. They were pretty small but I also had to take into consideration the fact that the season is ending and that's to be expected. Majority of the shrimp were very mushy as mentioned in a lot of the reviews I read and the potatoes had absolutely NO flavor what so ever and could have been cooked just a tad bit longer. Corn is corn lol and the smoked sausage was pretty tasty. I really really really enjoyed the crawfish, and regret not visiting this establishment last year when I first intended to or at least earlier this year when they were in season. I'd definitely recommend visiting this restaurant and getting your eat on and I plan to return. My only suggestion would be making customers provide their receipts upon pick up to avoid seafood bag snatchers . Maybe they can tape a sign up that says please present receipt for pick up lol.

First time here and already and we'll definitely be back! Great food quality/ freshness. There was a line out the door when we arrived and after our first bite we understood why!

Catfish Poboy (with fries) and Meat Pie
    Justin N.

Food here is DA BOM every time. Been a few years since I been, but it still hits. Poboys are huge and filled and fresh. Bread is soft, catfish was crispy. Meat pie was so fresh and hot, crispy on the outside, hot on the inside. Also, the crawfish is also really really good, get the turkey neck too!

I LOVE BAYOU CAT!!! The place is always so busy and the food is great!! Don't be intimidated by the line cause it might seem long but the service is fast and decent. I've been going here for years now, and I still get the same thing. My favorite go to is the hot sausage po boy add cheese. It's DELICIOUS!! The red beans and rice are also my favorite. This will forever be one of my favorite seafood/cajun/louisiana restaurants! I will be back!!!

    Janiya H.

I waited in line 30 minutes for this crawfish and let me just say it was worth it. This is coming from a Louisiana native. For starters, I really enjoyed the red beans. They were seasoned so well & tasted like home. The crawfish were the best you're going to get in Dallas. Not too spicy but seasoned just enough to enjoy. The shrimp were cooked perfect and were a nice size. Everything really was good. I paid about $60 bucks for all this food which to me was worth it. The cracklings were even tasty. The only thing I didn't like was how unstructured the whole atmosphere was. Nonetheless, the food was banging.

don't get the corn, it was rubbery! crawfish good, shrimp wasn't the best but hey‍

Corn was too old, very rubbery ! definitely wouldn't get the sides again. Crawfish was great, the shrimp was mediocre! All i have to say is this place is good for crawfish!

    Marcus K.

Food is always good but I ordered the lunch combo with the fish and shrimp with the red beans and rice but instead I received gumbo instead of the rice. Just make sure you check your order before you leave. Besides that it would have been a 5 star.

The place is a must for crawfish. The lines will be long and the ambiance is not what people come here for. It's the seafood. Especially the crawfish. The staff is friendly. If you are getting anything fried or from the kitchen, the wait is usually long. The boil food is quicker because they are pulling from coolers and warming stations. It's BYOB. However, you can buy soft drinks (Big Shots)if desired, or Coke fountain drinks. The place has a Louisiana swag. At times, you can purchase King Cakes, pickled pig lips, pecan candy, and boudin is regular on the menu. A good hole in a wall is the best way to describe here with a powerful punch on the taste buds that keep seafood lovers coming back for more. They are closed on Sundays and stay open until 8:00 p.m. daily. Wednesdays the owner usually surprise their customers with hump day specials. Do yourself and try them out.

I've had this place on my list ever since we moved to DFW a few years ago. Originally from Louisiana, I had asked my new friends where to get authentic king cakes, and they all pointed me to Bayou Cat. For whatever reason we never made it over until this week. The shopping center is interesting. Lots of Vietnamese restaurants and names on the signs, and I believe the people running Bayou Cat are Vietnamese as well...which is fine because the best seafood restaurants I found in South Louisiana are also Vietnamese! Walking in I got the feeling that sometimes this place gets crazy. Lots of paper signs covering every wall about how customers are supposed to behave. Strange. The restaurant was a little over half full when we arrived, with no line at the counter. We had to walk through this long Disney-style queue to get up to the counter. Extremely friendly service, answered my wife's questions and took our order quickly. I got the Bayou Combo with fried shrimp, catfish and oysters, while my wife ordered several pounds of boiled crawfish with potatoes. The cashier asked if she wanted the butter sauce, and my wife said yes. Be aware that it costs extra! We got our drinks and found a seat. When your order is ready, an employee will bring it to the side counter and shout out your number. Ours took 10-15 minutes and was nice and fresh when we picked it up. The star of my show was the fried oysters. Crunchy, briny, salty, they were perfect. The shrimp were decent but the catfish didn't have much fish flavor at all. All I could taste was the breading. The fries and hush puppies were fine - not great, not horrible. The boiled crawfish were fantastic. Big, tender, seasoned very well. The potatoes were a disappointment - no flavor whatsoever. Overall I give this four stars. Definitely a great taste of Louisiana, and we will be back. Next time I may just get the oysters, and my wife said she would have the crawfish again. Not perfect overall but pretty dang good.

So the price of crawfish are coming down but their size are getting better. I personally like the size for today, big enough I don't have to scrape for the meat and not too large I might break mah nails along w mah skin They're fresh! They're juicy! They're yummilicious!!! The lunch special is just as special for $7.49z the menu said two pieces of catfish filet but they always give you xtra!

Its located in Grand Prairie off of State Highway 161. If you go during happy hour, they have a selection of drinks and appetizers for $7 each, when regular price is at least $15 each. Ive included my receipt so you can see my first old fashioned was $7 but I missed happy hour end time - which made my same type of old fashioned $15. At that time, brunch was around $40-$45 and I truly enjoyed myself. This time for Mother's Day, it was the exact same food, but the price jumped to about $55 per person. Everything was going well until my daughter asked for a to-go container for a slice of pie. After that, the manager, Joe, walked up to our table of eight adults and two children and literally rolled his eyes and stared us down for what felt like 10-15 minutes. I would normally give courtesy to our waiter, but instead of helping, he sat there with the manager talking negatively while we were still dining. I can't even remember his name, but he appeared very unkempt. Meanwhile, the table next to us had two girls dining, and he continuously checked on them asking if they were ready to go or needed anything else before leaving. We arrived around 1 PM and by 2 PM we were already getting death stares from management, as if we had overstayed our welcome. We were not even there for two full hours, yet the entire experience felt rushed and uncomfortable. On top of a $513 bill, we still left an $80 tip, only to feel stared down over asking for one small to-go box for pie. Also worth mentioning: there are only TWO bathroom stalls while they are serving what looked like well over 150 people during brunch service, so the wait for the restroom alone was ridiculous. The food was still good, but the hospitality completely changed my opinion of this place. Prices went up, service went down, and the atmosphere felt very unwelcoming compared to Easter brunch. I'll gladly take my money back to downtown Dallas restaurants instead.
