I want to take a moment to publicly thank Bayside Animal Hospital and their entire team for the extraordinary care they gave my Simon this past week. Over the course of two very long days and more than seven hours, they spent an incredible amount of time with me and my boy while he was extremely sick. When I brought him in on Wednesday, if I had to put his condition on a scale of 1-10, where his normal is a 10, he was a zero. By Thursday, he was maybe a 2. Tonight, Saturday night, I would honestly say he is somewhere around an 8 1/2 or even a 9--and seeing that transformation means more to me than I can put into words. Before choosing Bayside, I did what most people do: I read the reviews. I saw some comments about the staff supposedly not being professional over the phone, and I also saw comments suggesting that the hospital was more concerned with money than with the animals. After my experience this week, I feel compelled to share my perspective because that was absolutely not my experience. In fact, my experience was almost the exact opposite. The veterinarian went through every single option, every expense, every recommendation, and every consideration with me. We discussed together--with the veterinarian involved in those decisions--what was necessary, what was recommended, what could not reasonably be postponed, and what might not even be necessary at that moment. Nothing felt like it was being pushed on me. I was given information, options, and the opportunity to make informed decisions about my own cat's care. And perhaps most importantly, my financial situation was treated with genuine consideration. I am not made of money. I wish I were. But I'm not. And I never once felt judged for that, nor did I feel that the quality of Simon's care was being compromised because I had financial limitations. Instead, I felt that the staff understood that I was trying to make the very best decisions I possibly could with the resources I had available. That meant so much to me. But what I appreciated just as much as their professionalism was the humanity behind it. They made me feel like I wasn't crazy for being so worried about my cat. They understood that to me, Simon isn't "just a cat." He is family. They treated him as though his life and well-being mattered to them, too. They treated both of us with patience, compassion, kindness, and genuine care. There is something incredibly reassuring about handing your beloved animal over to people who make you feel that they understand exactly why you are scared--and who then work alongside you rather than simply talking at you. So, Bayside Animal Hospital, thank you. Thank you for the hours you spent with us. Thank you for listening. Thank you for explaining. Thank you for giving me choices rather than making decisions for me. Thank you for considering my finances without sacrificing the quality of Simon's care. Thank you for treating him with compassion and treating me with compassion, too. Most of all, thank you for helping give me my boy back. Wednesday, he was a zero. Tonight, he's an 8 1/2-9. And after the fear I felt when I walked through your doors, that feels nothing short of miraculous. I am incredibly grateful. I used them for 8 years when Dr.Corte owned it. Most of the positive reviews here are from before it was taken over by a new vet. I truly feel I was scammed. She told me because of my cats recurrent infections we should do extra testing to make sure something more major wasn't wrong. I signed paperwork saying it would be over $1000. I was so upset and I wanted to know my baby was ok so I signed the papers. She told me that it looked like something was off with the X-rays - that my cats intestines were pushed over to one side but that she couldn't tell if there was a tumor or anything in her stomach and I should see someone more experienced to do more scans. When I was paying for the bill I was the one who had to say that they told me they couldn't take urine because her bladder was empty so that should come off the bill and obviously the urinalysis should come off the bill. They refunded that $132. I had to wait five days to take her to another vet, five days of worry and anxiety that guilt like I should have known she had something growing in her stomach and it could be thousands of dollars to remove this etc. When I got to the new vet they knew immediately that the X-ray was done wrong. They said my cat was listed slightly to the side so her bowels shifted because she had fecal matter in her colon. They did a new x ray, showing her intestines were fine and in the right place. There was no tumor, she needs to be on special food (which I had just gotten five days ago because of the recurrent infections) and they did the urinalysis and got the results next day and let me know the crystals were dissolving with the food and she would most likely not have this issue again. They charged me less than half the price! When I went to the office to ask to be refunded for the improper scan (less than $200 of the thousand dollars) I was told that the scan was done correctly and I would not be getting any of my money back. I said "then what was pushing her intestines over to one side?" Honestly after sitting an waiting an hour because the doctor wasn't there (despite telling me she gets in at 8 am at my last appt) I was just ready to leave. Maybe this vet is better with dogs. I don't know. But if you have a cat I would go to literally any other vet. read more

Dr Corte is the absolute best. We've been going to his office for more than 10 years. He takes care of everything, and at a great price too (but you can't put a price on your loved ones life). should be zero stars.Have been going for about a year and just about every time the final price is way more than the original . I go there because it is very close to my house. Today I was told $79. When they were done it was $101.00. I mentioned that each time I go there the price is more than the quote was. She said ( quote )"well then go somewhere else" Not a problem . I will not go back to Highland animal again. She should be fired. Several of the other employees heard it. Dont go there. Rude and greedy. Also not one employee had a mask on and most of the people in waiting room also did not. Only patients allowed in back to protect doc. So protect him and screw the rest of us. From my initial contact via their website and email until after the appointment and check out, everyone was professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful. I'm a new (65 year old) pet owner. We went for our first visit today and we absolutely love Dr. Corte. He's an old school vet, an old biker dude that resembles Santa Claus. He seems like a great guy and he's fantastic with the animals and he doesn't try to upsale you on a bunch of additional unnecessary services. We decided to give him a try after my husband brought home a tiny puppy someone dropped off at the dump next to where he's clearing land. Jazz was also due for her annual vaccinations. We called the other vet that we'd been using and got a quote of $130-$150 per pup for shots. I asked a frugal friend where she takes her dog and she recommended Highland. Sure enough, a vet check-up and shots for both dogs was $152, so half the cost. Not to mention, Jasmine has had an on-again, off-again limp for several months. We noticed her leg got better, but she still limps from time to time. Dr Corte watched her walk down the hall and said it's her knee, likely because of the way she jumped off of something, that it will get better, then she'll probably do it again and we'll see her limp, then it will get better again. Bingo! That's exactly what's been going on. He said he could do surgery if we wanted to spend $3,600, but he wouldn't recommend it. I love that I can trust him to take care of them, and if he tells me they need something, it's not an upsale, they really need it. The former vet we used wanted to put her to sleep and do surgery and I didn't want to put her through that if it wasn't necessary. I also asked about spaying the little one in the future and they told me he won't spay until they're 6 months old. I don't believe any reputable vet would spay before 6 months, so that was another positive. Having a veterinarian I trust is a huge deal to me. We were very impressed with Dr Corte and his staff, and we will definitely be going back to Highland from here on out. read more

While the staff was polite and professional, the price was outrageous. Two dogs, one was spayed and the other got her yearly vaccines cost over a thousand dollars! I know pets are expensive but this is absolutely ridiculous. Other than the price, the place was first rate. read more

Doc is the best vet we have ever had , he has Been more of a family member than a vet . Doc did things he didn't have to do nor was it expected. which goes to show you what kind of person doc is . We where introduced to Doc by another Vet ( Al Reed DMV) he said you will Love him or hate him but he's the best vet I know. Well 20 years later he is still my vet . My babies love him and my wife and I love him we will miss you Doc I hope you have a great retirement I wish you and your family, And your grandchildren have a great time during Your retirement not much more to say except thave a great journey and Sandy and I and The Babies will miss you thanks for everything Doc they'll be no replacing you. New to the area, we were nervous about picking a new vet as we have had bad (BAD) experiences with some vets in the past. Our 10 year old lab/aussie mix had been experiencing some kind of pull or strain on one of her back legs for about a week - in the past she had gotten over these within a day or two, but it looked like this one simply wasn't going away. I was surprised to hear that they don't take appointments, its walk-in only, but it wasn't considered an 'emergency' clinic. That already won huge points with me, as one of our other dogs experience seizures and we have had to take her to an emergency clinic for immediate care in the past. I appreciated that I would be able to take her in immediately as needed. ANYWAY! My husband ended up taking our lab/aussie mix in for her leg and was seen almost immediately. He commented on how friendly the staff was, from the front desk to the nurses and doctor (which he also commented reminded him of Santa Claus :) ), and was given a diagnosis quickly. The doctor also took the time to explain his diagnosis to my husband, which he appreciated. We're very happy with our first experience here and will be returning and recommending this vet to others. read more

Love, Love, Love, LOVE Dr. Corte. I live in Mobile but I will drive across the bay for my dogs to see him. I'm pretty sure veterinary is his 6th sense now. No joke. He has been practicing forever. As soon as I bring my dog in & give basic symptoms & he gives my dog a look over, he has a diagnosis. It's always SPOT on. It takes him maybe 5 minutes. Dr. Corte is not about ripping you off with expensive meds if there is a cheaper alternative / home remedy that is just as good. The prices here are the best I've ever seen from vets. He's not about making a million dollars. He's about your pets!! The whole staff is super nice and helpful with excited puppies or nervous adult dogs. I always walk in with my dog & never make appointments. I'm always seen super fast. I have never had a bad experience. My whole family takes their pets here. Dr. Corte is so knowledgeable & down to earth. I would recommend any & every body use Highland Animal Hospital. read more

No longer "old school". I remembered the older gentleman and service from having to use them in the past. I brought my new 6mo old puppy for a neutering ,expecting the same level of satisfaction. They are one of the few places that don't require a "pre-screening" that would have required two visits. A HUGE plus. I was quoted one price over the phone, and specifically asked if there would be any other charges. $250 for a neutering is what i was quoted. I arrived, they took him back, and i was told it would be a little over $400 for a 56lb dog. That's with my opting to not choose any of the myriad add-ons like "E-Collar", etc.. $40 new patient fee, $60 for non-optional pain and anti-inflammatory meds, anesthesia\procedure costs making up the balance i suppose. Needless to say i was surprised and a little perturbed. I was told they had new staff and that there was a payment plan if i needed it. I took the day off work for this and didn't want to have to go through the trouble all over again, so i let it go. When the vet called and gave me an update, i mentioned all of this to her, she listened and was very nice about it. She explained they had a working trainee and that i was quoted incorrectly. They took $60 off of the overall cost. I will say that the staff were all very courteous, as was the vet. As far as the post procedure experience, it's been a nightmare with my dog. Not their fault at all as he is a wild man. The only thing that made it more difficult for me was that she did not do any external sutures. Everything was neatly done inside the incision (deep dermal), i guess to not require a return visit for removal? The only way i knew she had put any sutures at all in, was because on the 4th day he licked the wound open, and i could see them inside (ate his cone of shame, busted out of his kennel, generally ransacked the house). I've managed to get it to close up and begin healing, but every other dog I've had neutered had stitches on the outside to keep the wound closed. Doing so would have made my life a lot easier! That and my dog not being a wild man, that is. read more

I will never go back to this place. I took my 2 cats and the Dr. was rough with them and had a horrible "bedside manner"..I mentioned that my male cat had a skin issue and told me to bathe him in Dawn dishwashing liquid. I asked him how to go about bathing a cat without getting scratched up and he told me to tie his front paws and his back paws together and put him in the tub..i was speechless..and then he said or we could do it here but that's how we do it. To me this is horrifying and traumatizing for an animal and I will not be going back. read more
