David at Bayside Tire & Auto is so extremely helpful, I trust his judgment implicitly. When my car wouldn't start after filling up with fuel at a nearby station the attendant said it was a bad carbon filter. He said it let it sit and try again. The next morning I called David at Bayside Tire and Auto and told him the story. He asked if the warning lights had come on, which they hadn't. His instructions were to only bring it to him for replacement if the warning lights came on or it didn't eventually start. The problem was due to topping off after the pump stopped. There was a warning in my new vehicle's owner's manual to not ever do this. I highly value the honesty of Bayside Tire and Auto. Another repair center would have just replaced the carbon filter. These guys are great! I had been chasing an intermittent oil pressure sensor warning since 2021. I've asked shops to replace the sensor, but they would replace a seal or something else because the couldn't find it. I described my problem to bayside, they changed the pressure sensor, and voila - problem fixed. I also had a coolant leak that had cost me 2 trips to a different shop. The other shop replaced some hoses, but it didn't fix the problem. Bayside replaced the water pump and everything is good now. Great prices. Fast. Available - no 2-4 week waits. We packed up the car in New York heading to Va Beach- sunglasses, flip flops, suntan lotion, floppy hats- jumped in car -Wah Wah- car dead- hmmm -(first time ever) family hollering I left doors and tailgate open while I was packing car-- ( no) - got it jumped, headed south- kept car running for 7 hours- did tag team thing for eating and potty breaks. Got across the bridge and pulled into Bayside- SO HELPFUL! tested my battery- pronounced it on life support, located replacement, stated cost, replaced it, and we were on our way again. had a misfiring engine in 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They said I had a bad coil. Recommended replacing all the coils and plugs. had an oil change as well. Almost $1100. plus almost $31 for using a credit card. Would've been nice to know I could've used a check book and saved $31. I'll know if there is a next time. Needed a boat trailer inspection. Never been to Bayside before but they are close to where I store my boat trailer. Called made an appointment for 3 PM about 3 business days out. I showed up about 10 minutes early for my appointment they came out and greeted me, immediately did the inspection. Didn't Nickle & dime me over some subjective points just mentioned a few things that could be improved upon which I was aware and put on the inspection sticker (my trailer met the min requirements but some inspection stations use the manual subjective areas to gin up work - not Bayside) - very professional group. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. As I live on the west side of Norfolk, my only regret is that Bayside is not closer to me as I would be a frequent customer for all my future vehicle requirements based on my experience on January 4th, 2021. read more

I was visiting the area for work and during my commute, my car's Service Engine Soon light came on and the engine started stuttering. I brought my car in after seeing their positive reviews and was greeted with friendly service right away. The crew there is warm, knowledgeable, and upfront about everything. As a female, I almost always expect to get swindled at a garage, but they were amiable and went out of their way to check every nook and cranny and gave me some great paternal-style advice for what to do if the car started stuttering again. Paid $283 for power steering belt and power steering tensioner pulley to be replaced. 3 weeks later, had to get the tensioner pulley replaced because it was old and torn up inside due to the old belt being tangled up inside of it. Hmmm. I paid for a new tension pulley and didn't get one. Manager refused to speak to me and one of the other employees called me ignorant. Told me to leave the property. read more

I have been a huge fan of Bayside Tire and Auto for years and apparently something major has changed. My son brought his car in for an inspection and I got a call back telling us that the inspection failed because of two issues. My son got on the phone and attempted to find out exactly what was going on with a steering linkage issue that was replaced about 2 years ago. When we went in to pick up the car he more or less was verbally assaulted by the service manager stating I'm going to try to explain this to you since you spoke to me before like an idiot. I heard the entire conversation on my son's side and he was very respectful but was interested in why a part that was replaced not long ago then would fail his inspection. They would not tell him where the part failed. In the past the staff has been extremely courteous and honest with us but now I question their operation and feel as though there must be a change of ownership because now they cannot be trusted. Rudeness is one thing. People have bad days. Deception and dishonesty is quite another thing. It's a shame when a good business goes in the wrong direction. read more

I noticed I was losing pressure in one of my tires so I called a little after 3:30 on a Friday and the lady wouldn't tell me yes or no if they could look at it or not, but told me I could come in and ask Jim. I got there and told her, "hey I'm the guy with the leak" and she starts fussing at me about how she told me to come straight here. "I did. I'm doing what you just told me to do." "Yeah! Like a half an hour ago!" It's right around 4:00. The place says they close at 5. "You told me to come in and ask somebody." So I looked at the other guy in the lobby behind a different computer and he goes, "Well he's finishing up the last one right now and he's got things to do." I've never walked into a business and felt like such an inconvenience to the employees. I've had good experiences almost every other time I've gone, but holy crap! Now I'm looking for suggestions on where I can get a tire patched. I'm not coming back to a business that clearly didn't want to be bothered. read more

My family and I have been using Brad for probably close to 15 years. The level of service you get REALLY depends on who you are dealing with. I needed an oil change 4 weeks ago, and when I called to ask if I could bring my car in on a Friday evening for them to work on first thing Saturday, the guy who answered the phone was slow and really didnt seem to understand. I've take my car up to Bayside EVERY Friday for service on Saturdays for every. single. oil change I've needed. But this guy seriously couldnt understand what I wanted to do! He basically said that no, I couldnt do that. I called back two weeks later, and the woman I got understood right away and said that absolutely I could bring my car in Friday evening. She was polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. Several months ago I took my car to Bayside to get the oil changed, and when I drove it off the lot, the Air Bag warning light was on in my dash. As soon as I got home I called Bayside and the guy I spoke to said basically "You'll have to bring it back, we'll have to hook it up to the diagnostics machine, and yes there will be a charge for that." What?! In highsight, I shouldnt have drive it home and just turned around and taken it back to them. The Air Bag light is still on, several oil changes later. If you need a shop in a pinch, these guys WILL get the work done. But now that I've moved to Norfolk and this place isnt just across the street anymore, I wont be going out of my way to see them. read more

Asked about getting an oil change and scheduling an appointment so I can get a round about time to have my car back and she said, rudely and like I'm half-witted, "if you drop it off in the morning, you'll get it by end of day." I called the guys at Bayside and they told me to swing by and drop the tire off (it was a low profile tubeless tire) and they would fix it. Customer Service not great. Whenever I had to call or talk to someone the employees always gave the impression they were doing me a favor. I guess that's tolerated just because of your location and the need or mechanics in the area. Workmanship and prices were fine. The last straw for me was when i had extremely loud squealing breaks. I paid to have them looked at. At first "Bruce" said maybe I should check with the person who put my break pads on. Well I've spent a lot of money at Bayside over the last 5 to 6 years from Tires, to breaks, to breakpads. When i told him i got them there he changed the story and said it was just normal and nothing he could do about it. Meanwhile my breaks are worse. No way is this normal. I've been dealing with Bayside Tire and Auto for a few years now. I've always had great service. JD and Bruce have always been so friendly and informative. Just recently I took my car in for repair on a slow leak, tire rotation and an overdue inspection. I dropped it off on Wednesday around lunch time for a Thursday appt. JD said they might get it done that day but couldn't promise. He did say Bruce performed miracles sometimes. Well, two hours later I got a call and my car was ready.
