I have patron University car care for many years, and they never fail fixing the problem. But this year, Times have changed. My Tahoe failed inspection because of a constant brake light, ABS. When I Ask the owner if at any time when the break inspection occurred Could the wire to sensor have accidentally been pinched disconnected, bumped or debris covered the sensor, He replied " are you trying to say we sabotage your sensor?" Immediately I replied ,"no", informed him I was reading from AI review. Then replied , why would you say that. I called you to tind a resolution and your recommendation. I exclaimed, I'm trying to resolve a problem, not be a problem and I came to you because you're the professional. His mannerisms didn't change, did not offer solutions and directed me to go elsewhere. Appalled and frustrated, the call ended. After 10yrs, needless to say, I Will not return to have my truck reinspected nor patron his business. I WILL miss RICK, a mechanic YOU can TRUST. JOSH's response alone and accusation was defamation of my character and integrity. He showed no self control and a total disrespect to me as a customer. read more

University Car Care has done a good job at fixing what we ask at a reasonable price, but they have also given me an indication of what I need to plan on next. I've been to too many places that act like everything they find needs to be resolved immediately, so getting a heads-up is appreciated. read more

Great place just off ODU campus. Shell gas with repair garage is a lost art form in the world of corner gas stations. Most these days are all convenience store and oh by the way we have fuel too! University Car Care has a great reputation. I've used them in the past and had a need a few months ago for an emergency tire repair. They are located to the far left of the building. Parking for the garage can be a challenge. No clearly marked spaces. They will happily move your vehicle if there is an issue. The interior area is small with only a few chairs. I don't recall a TV. However, it was clean. Signs around the area give you an idea of what they do. Tires, alignments, breaks car inspections and batteries. I'm sure they do more. I assume they focus on domestics, but ask. The staff that I dealt with was terrific which was primarily the manager. They diagnosed the problem with my tire and made repairs that were quick and fair on pricing. During a routine check they discovered a light out which I authorized to be replaced. Checkout was smooth and my car was returned in front of the door. Recommend! read more

This place is AMAZING!!! We are from out of town and our truck overheated the day we were supposed to leave. We called 5 different repair shops including a dealership and no one would take us. University car care didn't hesitate, recommended that we got it towed there, and helped us that day! In addition, we had a dog with us because we had to check out of our resort. I have had my car in several times for inspections and various problems. The latest was just yesterday for an inspection. They have always been honest and transparent. I have been happy with the work and have never been surprised by any charges. The prices are not the lowest but I have found them worth it. I was always told prices in advance. This place saved my day exactly a week ago !!! I was from out of town and having issue with the van right on the same day I needed to drive back home (3.5 hours away). The young man at the shop (LJ) ran the diagnostic and showed me the code pointing to failures with the camshaft position sensors. However, he cautioned me that replacing these parts may not solve the problem and that it's very unlikely they had time to fix my van immediately. After I explained my situation to him a few times, he's willing to take on the job. About 4 hours later, the van was back to me in excellent condition -- no longer hard to start, no more check engine light. THANK YOU GUYS, ESPECIALLY LJ WHO WAS SO KIND AND PATIENT !!! Great service once again. Thanks guys! They just plugged my tire and got me back on the road for $30. This after another place told me they couldn't repair it. I told them this when setting up my appt. and they said they would certainly try. They had even been proactive and ordered the tire I would need in case they couldn't repair it. It was my first time using this place and I definitely recommend! My car was smoking from the hood so I got it towed to the nearest place I could find. Took my 2014 Dodge Durango here for a safety inspection. Who charges you $20 to fill up the fluid in your power steering reservoir when it's reading low as part of the annual safety inspection? These guys. That's who! I can go buy a quart of ATF-4 for $6.99 at any auto parts store but wanted to get the safety sticker that day without the hassle. So I paid, but just thought I'd let people know that's how these guys operate. Beware. read more

Went here because my engine light came on... they gave me two option the expensive or cheaper fix.. I went with the expensive thinking it's the right thing to do.. when I got my car back, engine light still on with a different code.. check the hood, and engine cover was not put back in place.. the guy said it's a normal occurrence and they will have to work on my car more to see what's wrong.. no guarantee also... aren't they suppose to be the pro or have code readers.. they never fix my car and they basically robbed me of 1500 dollars without touching my car, what a scam!!! 2 1/2 hours waiting to get an inspection and my car didn't even get touched...will not be back

Poor quality and overpriced! I had engine work and my fan belts replaced at University Car Care. After they worked on my vehicle it made a terrible squeaking noise. I took my car back to their shop so they could "fix" the issue, which they did not do. I had to take my car else where (and pay more money) and they informed me that they did not adjust the belts to my power steering. The shop cuts corners on properly repairing vehicles. Save yourself time and money and take your business elsewhere! read more

I brought my Lincoln here to get the alternator fixed and they ended up catching my car on fire. They fixed the alternator then charged me for fixing the damage they caused. Then they found that the fire they they causing once again and tried to charge me an arm sand leg to get this fixed also when it should've been free since they did it. They will try to take advantage of you. read more

I've used University Car care a few times since its close to ODU's campus right on Hampton Blvd. They definitely get their share of business however they will work with you to get your car in even during the busiest of times. They're a little pricey but quality. read more

DONT BRING YOUR CAR/TRUCK HERE!! I brought my truck (F150 5.4L Triton) to these guys after my check engine light blinked on me. I read the code before coming in and it told me I had a misfire. These guys ran their "tests" and told me nothing was wrong and it must have been because I didn't have a lot of gas in the truck (truck was about a quarter full at drop off). They said the truck "drove great." Fast forward to about a month later and I still have the issue so I take my truck to the dealership to get it diagnosed. Come to find out I had FIVE misfires (only THREE cylinders firing correctly). The dealership changed my spark plugs and the truck drives completely different from what I've had the past few months and I no longer have the issue. The engine I have is notorious for the spark plugs breaking off in the engine and I think that played a role in these guys telling me everything was "fine." They tried to instill my trust by telling me "they didn't want to charge me for work that didn't need to be done." Well obviously it needed work! read more

I've been taking all 3 of my vehicles here for years, from simple inspections and oil changes on up to very labor intensive repairs. Not one bad experience...ever! Rates are very competitive, they have the "mom and pop" feel. They always give my vehicle a courtesy multi-point inspection. This is very beneficial to me because my cars are 10+ years old, I know they're not in perfect shape and they help me identify and prioritize the items. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Used their services to replace suspension components on my car. Due to the cost of the components, I provided the parts in an effort to minimize the overall cost. University Car Care agreed to replace the parts however, they were going to increase their labor rate simply because I provided the parts. Although I wasn't ecstatic to hear this news, I also know it is expensive to run a repair shop, and I can't have my cake and eat it too. So even though the rate was higher I still saved money in the long run. I'm satisfied with the work completed and I would recommend their service to others in need. read more
