This is the sort of shop every town needs. But not everyone is made for retail. I went in a month ago to buy a watch; I like to buy local. I told the owner what I wanted. He showed me 4 watches. When I told him why each wasn't what I wanted, he said " I guess you just don't want to buy a watch" and walked away. So I bought a watch on line and got what I wanted. Then I needed it sized. I thought, Mr Bayside was just having a bad day. So I went back to get it sized. He worked on it for a few minutes in a frenzied and anxious state, then handed me the watch and said $25 dollars. The price was fair but I hadn't even tried it on. It wasn't right. He had removed too many links. Then he took 10 minutes trying to find the links he had just removed. He hammered away and gave it back to me. Still wasn't right. He says" I don't have all day to mess with this, that's as good as it will get, twenty five dollars". I walked out irritated but not willing to engage. I went down the street to Posh Jewelers where I was greeted by a smile, the watch sized in 5-10 minutes and charged $18. I paid the guy $25 happily. I don't understand how Bayside's owner thinks this grumpy approach is going to work. I won't be back. read more

I've been taking my watches here for years for new batteries, easy parking, convenient location. This past Christmas I received a diamond band ring that was too big. I decided to take it here since they have been in town a long time and have always been nice to work with. They resized the ring for me at a reasonable price. He warned me that a diamond could fall out because the size difference would cause the band to bend so much a diamond could pop out, and sure enough the day I got it back a diamond fell out! But I brought it right back and he put a new diamond in and tightened it for me for free :) Very nice to work with, reliable, and honest. read more

I agree, this place is not very good. I came in to get a link added to my watch and replace the battery. The guy told me he could do it no problem, I get it back and the link didn't match up at all and it looked cheap and I haven't even worn the watch because I'm afraid it's not going to hold up and I'm going to lose the watch. My watch's strap broke over Christmas, the metal piece that connects the watch and the leather strap snapped. So I looked Bayside Watch up on yelp and walked in. I handed my watch to the man behind the counter and before I even said anything about it, he nodded his head and said "I see." 30 seconds later he fixed it. And here's the best part, FREE. I was in there less than two minutes and I got a free replacement on a broken watch strap part. I will definitely go back. :) read more

I took my wedding ring to this shop and was promised it would be done in a certain time. It was not, then the price went up. My ring was there for months, not weeks. I was trying to be patient, impossible. Because I have arthritis, my knuckle was enlarged so he needed to cut off my ring. After it was done, he had to insert a small piece so the ring would not fall off my finger. I paid for this part but it was not satisfactory, the ring kept slipping around, not in a safe way. So, he said he could use a white gold insert and it would probably cost me about $300.00. He said he would be going out of town to a business meeting and when he returned, guess what, the price would be $700.00. My new jeweler said the white gold insert will be $190.00. Of it course at this time, we decided this man was not honest with us. I took my ring to a reputable jeweler in Santa Barbara, highly recommended by people who knew him for many years, he said that my prongs had never been rebuilt. I have been married for almost 61 years and I am so troubled that I had gone to Bayside. I wish I had asked before I went to,this place. It has been recommended that I go to the District Attorney. read more

So I brought in a $400 Italian sport watch which needed a battery and one "Hands" was loose - the owner said 1 hour & $50 bucks. A week later the hand was loose again and I came back - he fixed and said he can't rely on his fix job any further...4 weeks later it came loose again...now what do I do? I had a very good experience with Bayside Watch. I have an antique (80 yr old) mantle clock, took it to Bayside Watch for repair. In such a situation the clock owner has to assume part of the risk that the repairman wont be able to fix the clock, and pay part of the fee no matter the outcome. Bayside tried very hard to fix the clock. In the end, they could not. But they did cheerfully refund half of the repair fee, despite spending several hours (at least) of their time on the project. So, I am happy with their service. read more

I bought my own new replacement watch band online for my G Shock watch. After I realized that I needed a unique tool to change it, I called Bayside Watch. Over the phone the man said that he would charge me 7 dollars to install the band. That seemed more than fair. I went in today, I told him that I had purchased the band elsewhere and that I wanted to pay him to install it. He put it on right away while I waited, less than 5 minutes, and said no charge! I asked, "are you sure? I was prepared to pay". He said, no charge, have a nice day. Very awesome service. Next time I need to buy something I'll come to him. read more

I took my watch in for a battery change. He had trouble opening it and said he would have to keep it over night and would call me when it was done. One week to the day I called them and was told they would have to send it out. I picked it up instead and the back was damaged. I took it to Pendulum Faire. They first commented on the damaged back and then changed the battery, on the spot for under $10. read more
