It can be as challenging or as easy as you make it - wind gusts off the coast can be 30-40mph which adds a difficulty not found at most courses. The staff are uber friendly, the brand new carts are a great positive and the course layout next to USMC flight path is a unique experience you cannot get anywhere else (except for maybe USN-Coronado haha). One of my absolute favorite courses and can't wait to come back next year.

We went on a Monday and couldn't get a tee time until 2:00 because of an earlier tournament. The weather was a beautiful overcast day where we didn't have to worry about sunscreen. The 13th and 14th holes were along the coastline with views that make playing here worth it. The fairways are narrow, there are drop-offs everywhere, and accuracy is absolutely critical. Bring your A-game because if you're slightly off the tee, you'll be searching for golf balls all day. I would strongly recommend bringing extra balls because this course can be unforgiving. What makes the challenge worthwhile is the breathtaking scenery. The course is surrounded by lush mountains and tropical landscape that make every hole feel amazing. If you're looking for a challenging round of golf in one of the most scenic settings in Hawaii, Royal Hawaiian should definitely be on your list. I'll be back soon.

Those three things alone keep me coming back. Don't let the price fool you though. This course can be a real challenge. There are hazards everywhere, and it definitely rewards accuracy over power. If you can consistently play well here, you'll probably find a lot of other courses feel much easier by comparison. The course isn't perfect, but it's a fantastic place to sharpen your game without spending a fortune. Whether you're practicing or just looking to get a round in after work, Pali is a solid choice and one I'll keep coming back to.

I came along as a rider (no charge; cart fee $26) yesterday and I could see why. 90% of the course's aesthetics has nothing to do with design and all credit to Mother Nature. It's always so lush and green. I'd imagine it's constantly cool and breezy coz of its strategic valley-ish location. The "amenities" definitely look their age (50+ years old). There is no snack bar, just one vending machine. There is a pro shop but limited hours; it was closed when we were there. Bathrooms are clean, with soap and paper towels, even the one by the 3rd and 15th tee boxes. The road though... so many potholes. It was just us two for our 9:18 tee time. The very friendly lady behind the check-in window was super kind and helpful and encouraging to the kid. She warned us it was a busy day, which we found out later probably meant the pace of play would be slow. Took approx 5 hours for all 18 holes, and only coz the trio in front of us very kindly and warmly invited the kid to play with them ("we have to wait anyway might as well wait together!") It's a very no-frills course. Minimally staffed as well, and most that I've seen are middle-aged or older. Most groups use the cart but I have seen a few use pushcarts. Seems like a rather hardcore course! Also kinda scary when errant balls can come from any direction because the holes snake from 1st to 18th. (I heard someone tell "Fore!" coz their ball curved so much to the right.) It was windy yesterday. I packed a jacket and blanket for my legs and for sun protection. I also packed snacks. Fortunately there are trash cans throughout the course, so there wasn't too much litter, most of which were smashed tees.

You can probably do a refund but hate to know how long that would take and I am not one for holding up a bar line. Korean food is probs better than the rest of the stuff. This time, I visited Oahu Country Club for a party hosted by my lawyer's firm. The event was held in a private banquet room overlooking the lush greens, and it was a wonderful experience with delicious food, drinks, and pleasant live music. As expected, the clubhouse cuisine was refined and impressive. There was even a nigiri sushi station, which made me especially happy as a Japanese guest. The club is conveniently located about a 14-15 minute drive from my home. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that even non-golfers can become members, so I immediately started looking into it (laugh). After all, being able to enjoy great food and wine while taking in such a beautiful view sounded very appealing. Unfortunately, the membership fee comes with about six zeros in USD, and we quickly gave up the idea... That said, it definitely reignited my passion for golf. The course at Oahu Country Club is set within a forest and features significant elevation changes, making it quite challenging for beginners. However, it offers a fantastic opportunity to enjoy golf surrounded by nature.
