They were running a special for $225/player (normally $275) with a 10-day advanced booking. They need a credit card to hold the reservation and you pay upon arrival. We had a 10:50 tee time and everything ran on time and check-in was smooth. Once checked-in, you'll present your receipt to the staffer who will give you a small bucket of balls. They took our clubs at the parking lot stand and placed the clubs on our cart. We grabbed a few clubs and walked over to the grass range, which was in decent shape. The course is great for all skill levels because it's pretty wide open and very well manicured. The rough is cut down pretty low so even if you miss the fairway, you still gotta shot at it. Playing the blues, the course is pretty long but manageable. The greens were in great shape and bunkers were great looking, although luckily I didn't have to play out of any of them. While it's a well maintained course, I thought the layout was kinda boring and predictable. Lots of good views and photo ops around the course, although the course has minimal ocean views. We had some vouchers from our hotel which we could use at the pro shop but not the snack bar. We ended up with a couple of bag tags, ball markers and a logo ball (gift set) which they engrave your name in the bag tag which is pretty cool for $20 for everything. The rest of the pro shop is pretty pricey though. Overall, glad we got to play it. I think the price point is what would keep me from playing again, but it's hard to beat when it's less than 5 minutes from our hotel. We got paired with a great couple, shout out Chuck and Cindy who were also visiting. It made for a memorable and fun day out on the course.

We were promised a certain price from the Mizuno Rep (Russ Chong) and he told us Oliver (Island Pacific Golf Academy) would bill us and call us when the clubs came in. A week before the clubs came in, our credit card was charged $400 more than the original price. I tried to get a hold of the Mizuno rep with no response and Oliver keeps giving us the run around. To this day he hasn't given us a refund. This was a hard and expensive lesson to learn. Don't do business with Oliver Oliquiano. From other reviews I've read it seems like he has a habit of ripping people off. Shame on him! Especially in Hawaii where the golf community is so tight knit!

As luck would have it, the person who reached out and was available at the time was the head PGA instructor Oliver. I was a little unprepared (no clubs, no gloves), but Oliver was very much go with the flow and was able to accomodate me. He asked me what I wanted to work on, and that's exactly what we did. I improved immensely, because Oliver was able to quickly diagnose the main problems with my swing and explain in an uncomplicated way (without too many "swing thoughts"). I'm excited to go home and practice/implement the changes to my swing.

A large assortment of different types of foods both American and Asian fusion. We had the loco moco, a large portion that comes with 2 hamburger patties, 2 eggs perfectly cooked eggs, 2 scoops of rice and a scope of Mac salad. More people not playing golf eat at this restaurant so that should say something. What was being served next to our table rated this a must try again. And taste the menu.

This is so sad to leave a 3 star review because this course was my favorite course on the island…read moreand I've played EVERY course there is on Oahu, including the military courses. However, in the last couple years this course has gone down hill. The driving range mats desperately need changing out, a lot of them are worn down to the rubber underneath. The rakes near the sand traps are missing handles and the fiberglass is splintered. I will say the grass was great and the greens were really fast but I was still very disappointed in how all the other facilities are used compared to a couple years ago. The food in the restaurant isn't as good as other golf places near by either. The service is outstanding but the food is small in portion and honestly not seasoned well. The bathrooms are very nice though, the staff is awesome, and the amount of rain they have had to make the fairways and greens nice which is what keeps this place going in my opinion. I want it to be so much better! I live close by and this was my home course but am thinking about changing to another course due to Waikele's lack of care for the driving range, sand rakes, and food.

We were told to join some other players (a pair and a solo; I was riding along with the kid). It's interesting that players are allowed to walk/push their carts but I'm told to stay in the cart for my safety. (But if I wanted to get my steps in I can pay the green fee and buy cheap/pretend set and pretend to play.) Friendly staff, minimally staffed. Very fuss-free. Cart fee is $26 as of June 2026. The course has a relaxed, local vibe with a layout that's both forgiving and enjoyable. It was clear how popular this course is with the community. The tee boxes were busy, but even with the crowd, play moved along smoothly throughout the day, making for an enjoyable round. What also stood out was how green and well-kept the course looked. Compared to Ala Wai, which tends to show more wear, Ted Makalena was a pleasant surprise with its condition. It made the experience that much better and left me wondering why it took me so long to finally play here.

It's a beautiful layout and definitely enjoyable to play. Unfortunately, the customer service, especially from the staff handling the golf carts, was a completely different story. When you try to talk to them, they don't even acknowledge you. My friend attempted to make a simple conversation and was flat-out ignored. No response, no eye contact--nothing. It comes off as extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. At one point, I was waiting to board, and instead of giving any kind of direction, the attendant just threw his hands up like I was supposed to know what to do. No communication at all. That's not how you treat paying customers. I understand everyone has bad days, but if you're working in customer service, basic courtesy is part of the job. If that's something you can't handle, this probably isn't the right line of work. It's disappointing because the course itself is solid, but experiences like this make you think twice about coming back. Good thing I'm not the owner or supervisor because I would terminate all of them and make an example of them.
