TLDR - good wings, excellent texture but the flavors were different than we were expecting. Not our favorite but someone else might really enjoy them! Vibes - our waitress was kind and quick but this restaurant isn't the place to come if you value aesthetics. Food - we were a bit disappointed but I think we were just under the wrong impression about what the food would be like. The sign outside says bbq, wings and beer so we were expecting a very different menu. This place seems to serve more Asian fusion. That said the wings had a really great texture that we enjoyed! There are A LOT of sauces to choose from and it's difficult to know what they'll taste like. We spent 30+ on 12 wings so definitely pricey. Bb.q chicken Cary street 6pm Saturday Not busy at all for a dine in option. Only 3 tables had customers. I ordered the soy garlic wings, bone in. I really wanted to try the kimchi fried rice, but that comes in a pretty big serving and they didn't have that as a side option. So I ordered white rice. The waiter said he's gonna ask if I can get a side of kimchi because that's also not an option as a side order. It's a no go for a side of kimchi. They said it's a different kind of kimchi they use for the rice dishes. Oh well, maybe I can suggest that be an option in the future. Someone told me that this place was better than Bonchon so I'm gonna compare the two. It's definitely a friendly, family atmosphere. Plenty of options on the menu. Outside dining as well as inside. Appears to be very clean. Rice - mushy not how I like it. it has a hint of something it's not regular white rice. But it's also not Jasmine because I like Jasmine rice. Interesting. I definitely expected better rice. Not rice pudding. I didn't know the wings came with French fries but they were bland. Not even any salt. Chicken- they only gave me 2 flats and 6 little drumsticks. Ok, it's a little spicy which was also unexpected. I really don't care for them at all. The waiter was nice and checked on me a few times. I wasn't offered any ranch or blue cheese or any other kind of dip for that matter. I asked if they had buttermilk ranch, they did not, just regular ranch. No offering of wetnaps either. A quick warning - it does take a bit for the chicken to come out since they give it to your fresh and hot. We put in our order around 1:15-1:20 and our order (56 pieces of chicken) started coming out around 2:05. I would not recommend this place if you're in a rush, but if you do have the time, the chicken is most definitely worth the wait! The chicken was super crispy and the meat was tender and moist. SOY GARLIC WINGS (8 PCS.) - 14 The wings aren't super big but the glaze and breading definitely helped make it more filling. I thought the soy garlic was a bit too strong in terms of flavor - a bit too sweet and overpowering. However, the chicken itself was fantastic! For something so saucy, it was impressively crispy. After tax and tip, it's definitely not a cheap meal (~$18.50 for 8 pieces is a lot). My friends got the golden original, honey garlic, and secret sauce. I really enjoyed those flavors and my favorite had to be the honey garlic, which wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be! The secret sauce had a slight spicy kick that I appreciated. To start, the service was phenomenal! We walked in during a weekend expecting the restaurant to be busy, but we got seated right away. Our waitress was a very sweet woman, she constantly checked up on us and even made small talk. The overall mood was very cozy and peaceful! The restaurant had K-pop and K-dramas playing in the background which made it feel like you're more at home. In addition, the food was amazing! I ordered the Golden Original and when I bit into it, it took me STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN!! Very crunchy on the outside and flavorful all over which other restaurants fail to accomplish. I've also ordered the Rosé Ddeok-Bokki and it was just as good! Not too spicy either, pretty tolerable. Like it won't make you sit on the toilet for hours after eating lol. Finally got to try this Korean friend chicken place out after learning that it was recently opened! I always go for the original (with no sauce) to assess the flavors and integrity of their baseline batter. My party of 2 got the Half and Half Whole Chicken to share because it gives us more value (aka more meat) and a variety of meat types (white and dark). The original chicken was very tasty. The batter had typical Korean friend chicken flavors (more egg yolk-y) and was very crispy. Their meat was juicy for the most part, although some white meat was a little tad dry. With the other half, we had the option picking between Secret Sauce vs Hot Sauce. We ended up with the secret sauce which kinda tasted like a mix of honey garlic and sweet & sour along with a light kick of spice. Chicken was still crunchy despite the thick sauce and it was quite yummy too! You can tell they only fry after you order because it came out sizzling and super juicy. As a result it might take a little longer than your typical wait at restaurants. Service was great! Not only did the owner check in on us but also the server gave us tips on how to store/reheat our left over fried chicken! The restaurant was super spacious with 3 sections (one takeout counter, one dining, and one dining/bar area). They also have some reserved parking spots in front of their restaurants so no more cramped carytown parking! Who has ordered something at a restaurant and have their meal served to them lukewarm??? I have, and because of that, I get totally turned off of my meal. Man, our food came out piping hot at bb.q, who doesn't love crispy and juicy chicken. My girlfriend and I decided to go and check it out. I've heard such great things about it. They redesigned the place from the previous place that was here. I've read the reviews and was aware that there would be a slight wait for the food given they prepare it fresh. As we waited for our order my girlfriend and I got some wine and the Frosé. The Frosé was so good I had two... highly recommend it while chatting up with your party and waiting for the food. It made the time past by quick. I didn't even notice how long our food took. To be honest, it really wasn't an unreasonable wait by any means, comparable to other restaurants. I think people get mad because it's not a fancy white cloth restaurant and they get the misconception that it's fast food. It's not, just think of it like any other restaurant and I think your time expectations will be better. At any rate, my girlfriend and I ordered a bunch of food... we got a small (8 pieces) Honey Garlic, small Spicy Original, half chicken Secret Sauce, Ddeok Bokki, and it came with a side of sweet radish. The wings were super crispy and juicy goodness. I would say I would 100% get Honey Garlic and Spicy Original again. I liked the secret sauce but I would say it was over sauced.... I wonder if they would do sauce on the side??? I don't like things heavily sauced... so I think it depends on your preferences. The Ddeok Bokki (Rice cake ) dish was awesome, the spice was totally on point... probably spicy for most so you should probably try the rose with a hint of spice, if you can't take much spice. It was perfectly Al dente ... I loved it! We each had some leftovers 8 wings left and a couple pieces of half chicken and a portion of Ddeok Bokki left (great for a mid afternoon snack for me the next day). We also got a Kimchi Fried Rice to go, perfectly cooked fried egg, and the flavor was delicious. I had it for lunch the next day and shared it with my kids for their dinner and they scarfed it all up... served three meals... pretty darn good! I can't wait to go back to try more flavors. In short, BB.Q has good food but a lot of work to do. I had heard a lot about BB.Q since it landed in Carytown pretty recently and planned to meet two friends there for lunch on a gorgeous Saturday in August. Upon entering I learned BB.Q is an international brand with thousands of locations, that and they boast their dedication to crafting the perfect fried chicken. Overall we had just an okay time, the three of us that day. We randomly (but thankfully) chose to sit on the left side when coming in the door which is much more quiet than the area around the corner where a small amount of chit-chat reverberates and echoes, which lets less than a dozen customers sound more like a crowded lunch room. The service was also just okay. Our waiter you could tell was still learning the ropes and tried to stay attentive in a way that balanced with his own convenience. Our table ordered, to share, an order of the original boneless wings, the spicy chicken sandwich, and an order of fried traditional wings with the Mala flavored sauce. We noticed after about twenty minutes that we were growing much more hungry than we had intended to be while waiting for our food and at that point the minutes began to drag by. First out came the boneless wings, then about ten minutes later the chicken sandwich, then at least ten minutes later was the traditional (bone-in) wings. I'd say it was every bit of twenty minutes between the first food to arrive at our table and the last of our order to make its appearance. In the hour or so we were there it looked like about half their business could come from takeaway orders, which now makes sense to me. If we'll eat this chicken again it will be in a to-go order. The waiter didn't acknowledge or have a good response to when we asked about if/when we might receive the rest of our order, much less didn't have an explanation, apology, or any indication that anything out of order was going on. The food ended up being tasty, hot, and went down easy. The spicy chicken sandwich was surprisingly the best of the three for me. Then, again surprisingly, the boneless wings followed by the traditional wings, which I had expected to be the #1 thing on the menu. Prices are okay though after leaving a generous tip for a "meh" service experience and the RIchmond City food tax when all was said & done it all added up to be more than what it was worth. The atmosphere is cold, industrial, and minimal - all of which can be quite nice in the right setting though I think BB.Q could use something much more colorful, warm, and welcoming if they're to offer lackadaisical service, awkward wait times that disrupt the flow and enjoyment of a group of people joining to meet and eat a meal together (you know, not one at a time). Next time we'll skip the hassle and place an order to pick up. read more

My wife and I love Bonchon, so we thought we would give this place a try. Right off the bat, the parking situation is confusing. There is parking at the restaurant but you have to pay for it with a QR code? We skipped the confusion and parked on the street. My wife and I ate here at 6 pm on a Friday night. We ordered 24 wings and a side of French fries. The fries were ok. We ordered them because there weren't really many side options on the menu. I find it disappointing that a Korean restaurant doesn't have kimchi on the menu. The wings were expensive, but were bigger than we expected. There were lots of sauce selections. We chose the Spicy Galbi, which wasn't especially spicy, but was very sticky and sweet. It was good, but I would have preferred something less sweet and with a bigger kick. The food was incredibly slow to arrive at the table. It took 30 minutes for the wings to arrive at the table after we ordered them. Our waiter also was pretty terrible at refilling our waters. The servers have no incentive to provide good service because an 18% gratuity is automatically added to the check. I made a point to swipe a couple from his plate and was pleasantly surprised at how consistent of a crunch they had and how well rounded the flavor was. Not too sweet, not too spicy..just right. I came and the hostess informed me the wait was 25-30 minutes and was seated 20 minutes later. I've been looking forward to trying this place since I first heard it was opening! My party of five went in on a Saturday evening around 6 and found it to be mostly empty. From the reviews, I knew the food would take longer to cook, so we came earlier. We ordered some drinks (beers, soda, soju) and enjoyed taking some time to just slow down and socialize. Our food came out as it was finished, which I expected and wasn't bothered by. We ordered boneless galbi wings and regular wings in soy garlic, secret sauce, and galbi. Our table also shared an order of tteokbokki. I think it's something else on the menu here. The rice cakes are good if you like spicy food (which we do) and were cooked perfectly! Our chicken was PIPING hot, SO crunchy, and evenly sauced. My favorite sauce was the secret sauce, but all three flavors were favorites for someone in our group. Everhthing was delicious and fresh.
