Vegetable lo mein with added white meat chicken
    Zena K.

I'm so glad I took a chance and tried this place. It's been half a mile from my house for as long as I can remember but I've always been so scared to try something new. I usually go to Chen's for lo mein as I've tried other places and it's never been as good. I'm stating for the record, Hunan Cafe's lo mein is delicious! They use the thick lo mein noodles, not like spaghetti noodles I've received from other places. The veggies were perfectly crunchy and fresh. The veggie spring rolls were really really greasy but it tasted good!

General Tso's Chicken, fried rice, and egg roll. Lunch special

The food was great! The customer service was good as well. The only thing I'd have to complain about is the plates. They weren't too bad, but you could still feel the immense heat from the bottom of them. BUT everything was better than expected. The place isn't much to look at, but the food and nice service makes up for it. I will definitely be coming again.

Best dumplings ever! General Tso shrimp for the win

I stopped in here one afternoon for lunch after getting my toes done next door. I love the shopping center they are located in! It was quiet no one was in there I can tell they get a lot of delivery orders. They were nice quiet and clean! My food came quick and it was delicious! It's hard to find good general tso shrimp and good fried dumplings now a days I definitely would recommend them to anyone looking for decent Chinese food.

I've been picky about my Chinese spot selections and the only two I felt were good was Red House and The Eatery..however, I was wrong. Chose this place as a result of a "what do you want to eat, no what do you want to eat ?" Heated discussion. I am glad we did. The place is in the staples mill shopping center beside Food Lion. It is small and easy to miss so be on the lookout. Coming inside, it is a really cute maybe 12 table set up with booths and normal tables. It isn't fancy. Just your imagined Chinese spot but I must say, their restaurant environment is actually pretty decent. Anyways, the lady at the front was SUPER sweet and customer service oriented. We ordered wings w/shrimp fried rice , hunan beef, and sesame chicken combination. I was thoroughly surprised at the portion of the food. I was expecting it to be small unworthy containers but they weren't! Okay, okay, don't get me wrong it was Chinese so it wasn't fancy restaurant but not crappy which made me happy. They also have a buffet lunch from open to 2pm for 7.25$. The bar looks small but I wouldn't mind going. Check out the food and pics. It's a safe Chinese spot from my opinion!

We stuck to water, but they have cocktails of all calibers here. The temperature inside was chilly, and I wished I'd brought a sweater or jacket. I'm sure others feel differently, though, I'm not a fan of the cold. I ordered sushi, including the wonder woman, sweet potato, and spicy tuna. They were all tasty, though spicy tuna as always remains my favorite. My partner ordered the orange chicken because she doesn't care for sushi, but it was pretty fantastic as well. I tried a sample of the chicken and the salad, and both were excellent. Our server was kind and provided excellent service. She never lingered, and continued working diligently all evening. The experience overall was majorly positive, and I would recommend to any who are looking for a solid Asian-fusion spot. I'd give five stars if the sushi was better. I found it to be satisfactory but nothing special, unfortunately.

I got these for the road: Dry-Fried Eggplant Crispy with a touch of savory spice plus cilantro, really good. Grandma Noodles Wavy noodles in a savory brown sauce with dried pepper and cilantro. Spicy but good spicy. Much better than the last time I had them, they hadn't congealed yet. When I mixed everything together it was great. Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce Oh yeah. Even with just one spice pepper, this rocks. This is what I remember enjoying from years back. Tender shredded pork in a spicy sauce with garlic and multiple kinds of peppers. Would definitely go back if in the area. Parking was easy in the strip mall next to Walmart. Ordering online was easy and pickup was friendly and quick.

It had too much soy sauce and you couldn't taste anything else. The white rice was dry and undercooked. I feel like this is an utter travesty. I was at least expecting good rice. The golden mountain had great flavor but I think it was a mistake to eat it at home. It was mushy by the time we ate it. You can taste the spite in general Tso's chicken. It's like they don't want you to order it. The flavor is just sweet without any complexity. I've had better flavored general Tso sauce from grocery store brands. It was also mushy by the time we ate it. I would never order this again from them.

They even have vegan kimchi and were so nice to bring out vegan gochujang because the one they have on the table is not vegan. We got the dolsat bibimbap and I always say the stone bowl is absolutely worth the extra money. The best part is always the crispy rice. Tteokbokki Having a vegan option without seafood was a great find. Most of the time the sauces have shellfish in them and I don't have the patience to make it from scratch. The noodles were cooked perfectly and they give you two vegetable dumplings on top. The sauce was nice and spicy without being too overwhelming. Kimchi pancakes: wish they had a bit more kimchi in them than the batter, but still good. Japchae with tofu, nice and almost beefy tasting. The black pepper was a nice punch. Korean fried tofu so nice and crispy with a really good sauce. I have been missing KFC since I turned vegan and good to know they have a good substitute for it. Service A good sized family run place where you can sit down or get take out. You order at the counter and they have a screen or you can be like us and take their paper menu to a table. A few four sized tables and some smaller two seaters. There was plenty of take out and delivery while we were seated. The person at the front was super helpful and patient as we tried to figure out what to order. They seemed busy and did not stop for too long the entire time. They came to bring us things and check in on us. Please use reusable cups for dining in and not styrofoam cups though! They have reusable utensils which is nice. The entryway is interesting and provides some shelter from the rain, allowing you to manage your umbrella before entering. We were seated within seconds, and our server, Liza, came by very promptly with some water for our table. I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too. Looking around the restaurant, it is clear that they support the local LGBTQ+ community, and it is even labeled as a Safe Space on the beautifully manicured, makeshift chalkboard/menu/posting board. The clientele and staff alike seemed warm and kind, based solely on limited interactions and observation on my part. If you are looking for a traditional American-Chinese food restaurant (think buffet-style items), this is likely not the place for you. There were no mishaps or snafus with our orders. Liza performed her duties well, and I can surely recommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't mind a mix of Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
