Usually my go to takeout restaurant! I've been here a few times and it does not disappoint. I usually get the dinner combo and it comes with a ton of food for $15. Our favorite take-out Chinese! They are very accommodating! (I like places where I can request no black plastic now and they, without question, switched the containers for us!) I can be a little picky with my food, and their dishes are made to order perfectly! Love their egg rolls! I won't say they are always perfect (last night's order may have been will been the BEST egg roll I have ever had!!) on occasion they maybe didn't let the oil drain fully, but they were probably busy, and they were still good! Just a little greasy.) It's really good! And the people I have sent there have said the same. I will say, though, it is a take-out place. I'm so glad I took a chance and tried this place. It's been half a mile from my house for as long as I can remember but I've always been so scared to try something new. I usually go to Chen's for lo mein as I've tried other places and it's never been as good. I'm stating for the record, Hunan Cafe's lo mein is delicious! They use the thick lo mein noodles, not like spaghetti noodles I've received from other places. The veggies were perfectly crunchy and fresh. Lunch Special General Tso's Chicken was 6.99 on 7/24 @2pm. Total cost $10.18??? No broccoli included which was always included as well as pictured. Out of the 4 people that work there, no one spoke English. So I could not dispute the price and missing broccoli. When I got back to work, I told my coworker and he reminded that the Henrico Health Department had previously cited them on health violations! Lol! Now he tells me!!! The food was great! The customer service was good as well. The only thing I'd have to complain about is the plates. They weren't too bad, but you could still feel the immense heat from the bottom of them. BUT everything was better than expected. I stopped in here one afternoon for lunch after getting my toes done next door. I love the shopping center they are located in! It was quiet no one was in there I can tell they get a lot of delivery orders. They were nice quiet and clean! My food came quick and it was delicious! I've been picky about my Chinese spot selections and the only two I felt were good was Red House and The Eatery..however, I was wrong. Chose this place as a result of a "what do you want to eat, no what do you want to eat ?" Heated discussion. I am glad we did. The place is in the staples mill shopping center beside Food Lion. It is small and easy to miss so be on the lookout. Coming inside, it is a really cute maybe 12 table set up with booths and normal tables. It isn't fancy. Just your imagined Chinese spot but I must say, their restaurant environment is actually pretty decent. Anyways, the lady at the front was SUPER sweet and customer service oriented. We ordered wings w/shrimp fried rice , hunan beef, and sesame chicken combination. I was thoroughly surprised at the portion of the food. I was expecting it to be small unworthy containers but they weren't! Okay, okay, don't get me wrong it was Chinese so it wasn't fancy restaurant but not crappy which made me happy. My friends and I order takeout from this place quite often. Their vegetarian dishes are very unique and it's hard to find mock meat anywhere else in the area. Tips: Order online and have it delivered, they're very quick! Also, do not order the mock chicken because they accidentally put some real chicken in my food. I ordered from here because I was looking for somewhere that had chicken with garlic sauce as a menu item and they did. I had never been here before or ordered to go from here before. So I'm all into trying new places, I might find a gem. That was not the case here. I ordered the chicken with garlic sauce, non spicy and white rice for delivery. Now the food came quick and it came hot, it just came with no flavor. I didn't know asking for not spicy meant no flavor but it seems that was the case. This place around here is my favorite! They present the dishes well, it's flavorful.. side note I click on here to see if they where closed today or not. Saw a bunch of 1 stars. This is our go-to Chinese takeout! We love their vegan orange beef;it's salty, sweet, slightly spicy, so good! The texture is great! Another great option is the vegetable chow fun. It's mostly a take out joint, but unlike many, similar places I've seen people dine in, so don't be afraid to. I used to be a China Panda on Sheppard person, but since moving the American Chinese fair near Lakeside is hit or miss. The good: The vegetarian menu. The crispy beef is delicious and contains plenty of sauce. The Kung Pow and General Tso's tofu are also fantastic. You can order online via an app, which is a perk over any other Chinese places that don't offer this. Coupons are also available via the app. The meh: Szechuan Tofu is Mapo tofu, which is actually one of my favorite dishes, but I've rarely had it called just Szechuan Tofu. This is the worst restaurant in the Richmond area. First, the cashier was rude when I came in to order. Instead of greeting with "Hello or What I can help you", she just said "To Go or Here." That is the worst customer service and rude. Second, I asked for vegetable Lomein with broccoli and carrot only for my kid. The regular price is $7.75 but she charged me extra $2. I said it was incorrect price and finally another gentlemen came up from the kitchen to adjust it. Third, I took the Lomein home and found out they put all the vegetables that I don't want. (I should have check it before I left the restaurant). To make it worse, the kids don't want to eat and I had to make another trip to get their dinner. It was pretty good. I had vegetable egg rolls and homestyle bean curd. I like that they give tons of rice since the serving size is so huge. The interior is small. I have only gotten takeout from here. The prices are reasonable and the quality is pretty decent for a takeout. We always get soup with our lunch specials with additional charge of about $1.50. The hot and sour soup is the highlight of our meals. The spiciness and sourness are well balanced and there is a ton of filling in the soup. The service is pretty quick. 3 meals were done in about 12-15 minutes. Never tried the buffet but it seems that they leave it out for a while since I have never seen anyone eating the buffet.
