I really enjoyed this place. Quiet except for the Chinese folks chatting as they chowed down. The staff was very helpful, and the food was filling. Seemed like a very authentic hole-in-the-wall, and I will definitely be back. I had the beef soup. It was pho-like, in a huge bowl with very thin beef (but lots of it) and filled with spicy peppers. Get some water, those peppers pack a pleasant punch. I also had bbq chicken, lamb. They both were like smallish juicy skewers. The chicken was actually better than the lamb, but both were delightful. Finally I tried the BBQ squid. It was tough to describe. Firm, but not too tough or chewy. It came in a sauce that was like the chef had gone to heaven and brought back some soy sauce just for you. We are regular customers since it's been open, mostly for takeout (lunch and dinner). Our regular order is beef sautéed handpulled noodles, shrimp sautéed handpulled noodles, and an order of lamb skewers. Order is ready within 20 min of the call, we pick it up and everything is piping hot and fresh. One order of noodles is good for 2 people, and we save the rest for the next day. There is a variety of veg in each order as well - cabbage, carrot, brocolli, mushroom, and a few others I'm probably forgetting. We opt for the shrimp instead of the seafood option because you get more shrimp and less fake crabmeat. It goes without saying that the quicker you start on the noodles, the less soggy they are (this isn't usually a problem for us). Flavor is nice and light, not excessively salty and a good taste of garlic and sesame oil. You get three skewers in one order, there's not a ton of meat on the stick but it's nicely roasted with a dusting of the chili salt seasoning that brings back memories of street food in China. My husband mainly gets it for nostalgic purposes haha - but it's a nice snack. Total comes to $26, which feeds two people two meals, so really good value. On my way home to Buffalo I decided to stop and look for something to eat. Alas, I got lost in downtown Syracuse, thank you Google Maps. I was looking for a Korean restaurant and ended up with Chinese. From the outside, this restaurant didn't look very convincing because it was attached to an apartment. I assumed the owner must live here. The restaurant size was fairly small with a few tables. It's also half mini market that sells some ramen noodle, chips, goodies, and some can goods. I was the only one in the restaurant. Literally I could play hopscotch from one table to the next because I was the only customer. But of course I don't want SPD to come and lock me up so I had to tamed myself. The menu offers variety of dishes from barbecue, regular Chinese food and hand-pulled noodle, soup or pan-fried. I didn't try the noodle but I ordered Enoki mushroom hot & spicy soup. It is a curry based soup with enoki mushroom, broccoli, seaweed, slices potato and taro, and silver noodle. I was surprised how tasty the soup was. The cardamom and chili paste gave a full flavor of the soup and it was perfect with steam rice. What a delicious and hearty meal. The price was decent for a big portion of soup. I also ordered BBQ pork which come with sauteed broccoli and onion to go. Unfortunately it wasn't as appetizing as I thought. I thought the idea of BBQ should be a smoky flavor with a tad of sweet and tangy meat. Not this one. I was pretty disappointed with this dish. Overall, It is hard to give a three star to this place but I can only rate based on 1 meal which was amazing, and not so much for the other. Went for the first time today. And it was ok some highlights and some blah. First the soup I had the ox tail and overall it was good. Actually I'd say the soup noodles and veggies were above average but the ox tail it self that's a different story it was very tough and honestly I thought it was old. Now I'm pretty good with chopsticks in fact I've been known to pick wedgies with them ok not really but when I can't hold the bone of ox tail and get the meat off it something is no Bueno that being said the soup broth and noodles were very good. Also had some mixed meat skewers and they were um ok. A bit gritty for my liking I will def go back to try other soups but perhaps I'll stick with different proteins read more

5 Stars for bringing tasty Chinese bbq sticks to the Syracuse Area! I've been going here regularly since they've opened. This is small, modest restaurant run by a couple (and their very polite son is usually helping around too!), so disclaimer up front..service is going to be on the slow side. Call ahead if you want to save some time and dine in. Food wise, their bbq menu is one of the kind, and close what i remember having in various night markets in China when I was much younger. All the meat sticks are great but a few of my favorites are the pork, shrimp, gizzard, bacon wrapped enoki. The veggies are fantastic too, I frequently order cauliflower and eggplant. Also they have a salt and pepper chicken on the appetizer list and we all call it crack chicken, because we cant stop eating it when we get it. Their noodle soup & stirfries are all delicious. The hand pulled noodles come in a different broth than the hefun & meifun noodle soups. They also have hearty bowls of spicy soups, my fav is the squid one. :D I have had friends try the American Chinese food on the menu, and from what I hear, its a home run, slam dunk, hole in one, :) One sticking point that might put off some customers is that they will not offer you a glass of ice water. (though they will give you a cup of hot water if you ask). There are drinks available for purchase (water, Chinese tea & fruit drinks, soda, beer) in 2 coolers that you can get yourself. Their wifi password is posted on the side of one of the coolers. If this restaurant ever closes, there will be alot of ugly crying on my end. read more

Really good! I love Asian noodles and these were right up there with some of the best that I've had. It's a little off the beaten path on Fayette at the corner of Forman behind the Crowne Plaza (the big round hotel near 81 if you don't know where that is) but worth venturing to for noodles! I had the pork on the bone noodles - big bowl of flavorful broth with the promised pork on the bone with baby bok choy, cilantro and some other veggie that I did not recognize. The owner is a young Asian woman who came over to inquire how I found the restaurant and was most interested in hearing about Yelp when I told her that was how I found her. The building is nothing to write home about, I think it is probably one of the buildings that you find all over Syracuse that once had a grocery store on the ground floor with n apartment above. No frills dining with a few tables for eat in or you can get take out. The owner said she wants to do delivery but is in need of a driver so no delivery just yet. My fiancé and I went there last night. The food was really good and we have eaten all over the US. The hand pulled noodles aren't as good as NYC but for Syracuse you won't find any place like it. This place opens until 11pm, which is late AF for Chinese food. So if you have the munchies and craving Chinese takeouts after 10pm, this is your spot . The food is just like every other Chinese takeout. Again I wouldn't recommend dinning in because the place is small and a bit sketchy, especially past 10pm. The special dish they have is the "BBQ" meat skewers, which were good but overpriced. I think having a better location and hiring an interior designer should be on their to-do list. read more

I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars because a 3.5 star Yelp rating doesn't do it justice. I had 2 dishes delivered to the crowne plaza down the street. Beef noodle soup - broth was tasty, a little spicy, had lots of veggies, and literally a boatload of noodles, beef was tender and flavorful Potstickers - they were pan fried, tasty filling, and accompanied by a dipping sauce that had hint of sesame, and the perfect balance of tart and sweetness making this dish some of the best I've had I didn't get around to eating the food till over an hour later cause I was running to the airport. I found the quite tasty even after it had been left sitting. Try leaving Chinese food out from another place for an hour and see how it tastes lol The poor delivery person was so patient with me too after making her wait in the lobby for me. She's super nice =) Prices are not overly outrageous, but not cheap either. Definitely is on my recommend list! read more

In the past week I have some of the best Asian food of Syracuse. Ky Duyen Cafe has great banh mi sandwiches for $5. New Century has superb pho. Tang Flavor is hands down the best Chinese food in Syracuse and is soon to be a regular in my Syracuse restaurant repertoire. (Reviews soon to come.) However, my streak of excellent Asian dining came to an abrupt end at the Barbecue House. After driving past Barbecue House several times, I decided to try it after I picked up their menu from an authentic Asian grocery store on Erie Boulevard. Nothing about my experience at Barbecue House would lead me to go back. The chief issue was that they use MSG in some of their dishes. Aside from the fact that there food made my heart race for hours after eating it, the food was not that great. Barbecue House does BBQ dishes and pulled noodle. They have a large eclectic menu; however, they are not well stocked. I went for lunch with my parents. They were out of the necessary ingredients for my father's first and second choices. We had their dumplings which were fairly good and their BBQ sampler. The kebobs which encompassed the sampler were unbelievably small, fatty and full of gristle (so much so that one of the kebobs was strangely crunchy). My parents got beef stew and duck soups with pulled noodle. The noodle and soup were okay, but not otherwise remarkable. The chunks of duck and beef where not cooked in the soup but we tossed on top and bony. I had the spicy lamb soup which was the most tasty. Unfortunately, the taste was artificially produced as I soon realized me tongue was tingling with MSG. There was no hot tea or water provided. I was left drinking diet Pepsi which in combination with an MSG-laced soup left an unfortunate chemical taste in my mouth The restaurant seem to be run by one person (who was very nice), so the service was slow. The layout of the restaurant was strange. In sum, after having such great Asian meals at the locations above, Barbecue House was a huge disappointment. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE! I've been back 3 times in 2 weeks since trying it a few weeks ago. I absolutely LOVE noodle soups. I used to drive to NYC on Sunday's just to get some of that and the Shanghai soup dumplings. Now this is close to home and one of the best I've ever had. I have had the beef stew hand-pulled noodle soup and the beef hand-pulled noodle soup. I also recommend the Sechuan (spelling?) dumplings. Was there today and they were super busy and the very kind waitress/cashier/chef still was able to keep cool and get our food on time. Even remembered me and thanked me for my business. Awesome! Had my BBQ fix today. As usual, BUBBAS did not disappoint. I tried the ribs, mild seasoning, I prefer to add my own heat with one of BUBBAS tasty sauces. Comes with 2 sides I chose collard greens and baked beans. The ribs were meaty, juicy and tender. Collard greens were seasoned just right and the beans were plenty. I noticed a few negative reviews and can't help wondering if they were for this fabulous place. Stomach ache? Well if I ate a bowl of beans and cabbage my stomach would "blow" up also. Wow. So amazing! This place has the best food! I ordered take out the other night and was blown away! Everything was cooked very well and had great flavor. Even the egg rolls were out of this world good! We had ordered egg rolls, pork fried dumplings, one of the vegetable dishes, general tso chicken, and vegetable lomein. My husband is a noodle freak, so we were excited to see this place open up. We each had a sauteed noodle dish (I got the vegetable - broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, onion, bok choy, mushroom), he got the pork. Noodles were EXCELLENT, so perfectly cooked and piled high with a little cilantro when they came out. We also tried the "White Gourd Drink," from the cooler, which I *swear* tastes like liquified rice crispy treats. The owners were very friendly and lunch for two with leftovers was $16, a bargain. I have been here several times and had great service and food and no problems, and I believe because there was an adult taking care of things. This time I had a young person take the order, sounded like he new what he was doing, but when I got home, I only got one out of two things and my friend never got a container of meat with noodles, very disappointing. Everyone has different tastes. My husband and I love looking for dive restaurants and were devastated when our favorite noodle place in NYC closed. We love pho, ramen and other noodle soups so we were excited to try this place. This place absolutely fit the description of a dive, the owners were the sweetest people, and very accommodating. However, the food was terrible. The broth was very bland with a cloudy appearance and had an almost starchy texture to it. The pork was just fresh pork, not roasted with any spices or seasoning so that was rather bland too. I was also surprised that for a soup place, they didn't have a lot of condiments to mix into the soup as I'm used to, nor did they have any traditional ladle soup spoons. It came in a sizable bowl, but with little protein to show for, and the noodle is not the chewy, bouncy classic handmade "pulled noodle". $5.50 BBQ lamb stick was tiny, bland and lukewarm. I've gone here almost every weekend ever since they opened so I've tried most of the menu items at least once. UNIQUE ITEM: If you're into fish and want one of the tastiest items ever order the Squid Stick, it's not the largest portion and kinda pricey but that's because it's a delicacy compared to the usual restaurant fare. BBQ: The BBQ Tofu is also really unique and packs a bit of kick if you're a lightweight. The Mixed Vegetables along with the other BBQ dishes carry relatively the same flavor but I love them all because the different vegetable and meat textures all bring something new to the table. AUTHENTICITY I choose this place over others because the service is fast and the taste is way more authentic than the americanized places you'll find around the university area and downtown. There are two menus technically; the paper and the plastic. If you order off the plastic there are more traditionally USA "General Tso" style items to order if that's your thing. ORDERING NOODLES: Little do people realize you can order either 'Ho Fun' or 'Mei Fun' with any of the noodle dishes, it really makes a big difference to the texture of your dish. Personally I prefer one over the other so if you didn't like it just try the other next time and see if you change your mind. The noodles in general are some of the best I've ever had. Depending on where your life has taken you this may not be the case for you. But I guarantee they'll be high on the list because of their authenticity. DRINKS: Like some of the previous reviews had said the drinks are self serve but there's a great variety of teas. If you're going to opt for a can of grass jelly then be prepared to have a ton of it left in the bottom of the can if you don't use a straw. Most of the teas do have english on the nutrition labels if you can't tell what they are. PORTIONS: The portions are more than generous for the price so bring tupperware if you can. OTHER There's chips, candy, and other snacks available in the back if you have a hankering for it. The prices are actually lower than you'd pay at a normal store. The owner really cares about your opinion so if you didn't like something let them know. read more
