My main issue I have with BJ is that I felt like I was misled by his proposal and his 5 year warranty. Since the first proposal, he mentioned that the suspected cause of moisture was coming from a crack in the wall. He sent me photos of the suspected crack. In his proposal, he wrote that he "recommend performing corrections to any potential moisture intrusion sources preventing abnormal moisture levels from being present and allowing microorganisms growth." Seems reasonable. Given that his proposal was pretty expensive given that the affected area was small, I wanted to be sure that the underlying issue would be fixed. So I asked him how confident he was that that was the issue and what would happen if mold reoccurs in the area. He says he offered a 5 year warranty in the event that mold reoccurs in the same area. That gave me confidence that the job would be done well and to completion, so I swallowed the heavy price of $3k for the mold remediation with the understanding that it shouldn't reoccur with his warranty. Fast forward to the last day of his work, the morning that he is to collect the check, I receive a report that he cleaned up the preexisting mold area, recarpetted the floor, and that sealing the suspected crack to prevent further water intrusion is going to be extra work and would be an additional $2,500. I asked him, but what about the warranty? If you don't fix what you suspected was the issue, wouldn't moisture still be a problem and eventually reoccur in the area? Didn't he say that he would cover if mold reoccurs in the area? Oh, that warranty would be void if that crack isn't sealed. So yea, at the last moment, I learned that the crack that he had alluded to will not be fixed unless I pay an additional $2500 which he has never mentioned before. I also never received the warranty in the email that he had said he would send later that night. Unfortunately, it felt like a job half done and it felt like the warranty that never arrived wouldn't have been worth anything at all anyway. read more

We've hired BJ 3 times now for various issues, and he's been great! We had a big flood in our basement, and he responded very quickly with a plan to dry it out and got started right away. We have had no issues with mold or dampness since he took care of the basement. We also had a problem with our gutter that caused a part of our ceiling and a full wall panel to get soaked. After interviewing 5 companies to clean up a sewage pipe leak, we chose BJ based on his 30 years of experience and knowledge. Based on his years of experience, he gave me a quote, site unseen. But after seeing the extensive damage in person, he raised his initial quote much higher. Since I did not agree with that, BJ was willing to compromise and meet me in the middle. And even though his final quote was higher than a few others (but lower than others), I chose to continue the job with him because of his professional explanations and friendly demeanor. I am glad I did! He and his associate quietly worked, came on time, explained everything they were doing, and communicated frequently. After the sewage cleanup, I showed BJ a few areas with mold, and even though it was the end of the day, he took time to explain his process of mold remediation. So I hired him for a second job. He didn't mind moving things around in my garage, cleaning up years of neglected wall damage, before even getting to the moldy areas. He even moved another client so that he can repair a moldy area in my daughter's room before she came home from college. Again, BJ worked with me to give me a good quote since the mold remediation work was quite extensive and included two large areas. A heavy rain helped reveal where the leaks were coming from that caused the mold, and he gave me recommendations to some roofers. But the final act of kindness was that BJ left all his fans a few extra days, at no extra charge, to ensure that our exposed wall and ceiling would be dry before we start the repair work. We hired BJ to come in and assess the damage and I'm so glad we did. There was moisture in areas I did not even suspect. He quickly got us on his schedule and got to work.
