The location is great and the front office staff are pleasant, but that's about it. The whole exterior is disgusting, from dilapidated paint jobs of the exterior to fences and shredded flags flying. The outside rugs that run up the 3 flights of stairs w no elevator are filthy beyond belief. Every outdoor light fixture is beset with grime and cob webs. Take a rag and windex, poof 5 seconds nice and clean. The staff puff away constantly on Marlboros on-site like they get them free as part of the pay plan. Go smoke around back, not on the benches for guests by the pool. No concern for families w children. The interior is decent semiclean. But there's no daily cleaning service. They hide behind the dated guise of covid, when in reality they're just too lazy to pay someone to clean the rooms everyday. If you need toilet paper or towels you have to go to the lobby to ask for it. It's basically self service. Choose your own adventure. That's fine, but they shouldn't charge 300+ a night for a filthy exterior and self service every day needs. I've been here for three years but I'm throwing in the towel after I go get it from the front desk. It's ridiculous. Had a good stay here in the off season. It was steps from the beach and restaurants on Coastal Highway. The room was laid out well and the important factors were all met - comfortable bed, lots of fluffy pillows, good bath towels and great shower pressure. Our room was missing bathroom tissue (?!) but we were able to get some quickly from the office. The location is close to Rehoboth, quickly by car or by a leisurely walk along the shoreline/boardwalk. We visited in off-season April so it was pretty quiet, not likely the case from May-September. read more

LOCATION!!! That's what you're paying for here. We (my husband & I) recently escaped to Dewey for a much-needed couples trip during COVID because well, 24/7 mom-life since March. Our goal was to really let loose and have a killer time partying and listening to the same cover bands from back when we just started dating over a decade ago. Dewey is the place for that! We knew we wanted to drink and not worry about driving anywhere so somewhere close was needed. You can't get better than this. It's literally across the street from the famous Bottle & Cork and a stone's throw from the ocean. Winning all around! Best of both worlds!! We stumbled back across the street after 8 hours of live music, grabbed some slices from the strip mall next door (actually decent), grabbed champagne we brought that was in our fridge in our room and headed to sit under the moon and listen to the waves at 2am. Perfect!! There's also Wings To Go open real late for munchies, a convenience store if you forget anything like sunscreen (I got cute tie-dye sweatshirts there), a locally made ice cream spot, an acai bowl & breakfast nosh place if you can't seem to make it more than a block after some debauchery the night before and also a Philly cheese teak place for grabbing some lunch to bring to the beach. You can easily park once here at the beach house and walk to everything in Dewey for a few days! It's really the perfect location. Brunch at Starboard, visiting the brewery, crab cakes at Woodys. Etc. It's actually much easier to just leave your car here. Parking in Dewey is $20 a day regardless of the time you will need it. There is a shuttle to Rehoboth if needed. The room was Uber basic but very clean and modern. It's a motel setup so check-in, especially during COVID was perfect for not having much contact. The pillows were very comfy, the shower pressure was real good, and we totally appreciated the black-out curtains after nights partying. Haha! Th pool was fine and proximity to beach was awesome. Can't beat it! Morning walks, sunsets, late night dancing under the moon, beach days....all just feet away! Although we totally overpaid (seems to be the trend during the pandemic) we thought the stay was perfect for what we needed. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again when we want to party and not worry about how to safely get home. I actually very much look forward to a stay here at the beach house and in Dewey in general! Honestly probably 3.5 stars. Some huge positives. LOCATION. You can walk to the beach about 500 ft away and same to the bay. The hotel is smack dab in between both. So that's really cool! You can walk to restaurants, coffee shops, bars. We enjoyed Nicks Sub shop, Baked coffee bar, and Starboard! Love the walkabilty! Also our room was very clean upon arrival except maybe the AC vents. Also, hotel staff were super friendly. Cons: apparently Dewey is a crazy party town. There are 2 clubs across the road from the hotel and you can hear booming music from 1:30 pm to 1:30 am. Apparently people get so crazy jumping from the 3rd floor to the pool is not uncommon. So we bought some ear plugs and turned on a noise machine app lol. The only other con, they didn't tell us there was no housekeeping bc of covid, so we ran out of towels and tp. You can pick them up from the front desk easily but good to know, before trekking up the 3 flights of steps. The hotel likes to boast about service and cleanlines but it isn't true. When we checked into our room we found a moldy shower curtain which we asked to be replaced. Also, there were red stains on the comforter. We didnt find those until the second night then got it replaced. Bathroom shower was dirty. Hair in the shower and on the floor. Floor super gritty so we walked with shoes on and there was still debris on the floor. A long hair in the fridge in the room. Yuck! Lots of smokers outside of their rooms. I was accused of posing as a competitor hotel on TripAdvisor but I am an actual guest. I booked the hotel based on other reviews and what we actually encountered was a dumpy place that got a face-lift some time ago but needs some real attention. read more

We stayed here for 4th of July weekend. And as the rest of the reviews state, the major positive about this place is the location. The front desk staff was super nice and patient with us while we got parking situated. However, the bathroom and shower were completely soiled. There were a stench like someone had just showered in there after a long day at the beach. Also, in the stairwell there was trash, dust, and spiderwebs. The employees sit poolside and smoke all day, no chance to have your lunch by the pool. Employees hide behind the shower and smoke while you try to clean your kiddos off after the beach. Rooms are filthy and when housecleaning didn't come after 5:30pm, the day manager shrugged her shoulders and said "Oh Well". Would I come to Dewey beach just to stay here? Hell no. Is there anything fancy about this place? Nope. But as far as motels that open to the outside air go, it appeared to be newly-decorated, and everything was functional. Instead of a closet, there's an open hanger rod where you can hang your clothes, but I suppose it makes it harder to forget things behind. A microwave was included in the room, and check-in and check-out was easy. For a cheap room, this place worked. FYI, you can hear the thumping of loud music from the nearby bars until 1 AM, but earplugs and white noise from the air conditioner took care of that. read more

It's not that the staff is friendly or not friendly. It's like it's just a job attitude. They definitely don't overextend like most hotels. This is NOT a family motel. This is a motel where high schoolers will party until 4:30 am. The police eventually showed up - the manager will do nothing. The following night, the high schoolers were partying again, until 4:30 am. Loud music, fireworks, screaming, yelling vulgar language, etc. By the third night of this continuing on, we asked the manager for a refund, as we needed to check out early due to lack of sleep. He threw his hands up in the air and said that his computer was down, there was nothing he could do. Such a disappointment. We've all had our share off poor customer service experiences, and I'm no exception. But for me, my interaction with one of the staff from Beach House Dewey takes the cake. I didn't even get the chance to stay here, & after the way I was spoken to, I'm glad I never will. I booked a few days stay here thru Expedia. I've used Expedia (& other similar travel sites) in the past &'always choose to book and the pay in full at the hotel/condo. Due to circumstances in my schedule, I usually have to book my family's trip rather last minute & prefer to choose this option. I've never had an issue, & it's a well-known feature that these sites advertise. I was happy to see that this location offered it & I received a confirmation upon booking that I owed nothing now & would pay the balance in full upon arrival. Approximately an hour later, I went to the grocery store & my bank card was declined. I pulled up my banking app & saw that I had just been charged $327 from this location. Needless to say, I was a little embarrassed & had to scramble to figure out how to purchase my groceries. As soon as I got home, I called Expedia. They told me that I was indeed correct, & that the agreement that I had signed off on online indicated that I was not paying anything until I arrived at the hotel. The representative put me on hold, called the hotel, & then got back on and informed me that the hotel told her that they need to charge one night and I could either cancel the reservation & wait 7 -10 business days to be refunded or I could keep the booking. I asked to speak to a supervisor, as I did not authorize this charge & should not have to wait 7 -10 business days to receive it back. Not all of us are in a position to be able to afford this type of error. The supervisor from Expedia called me back, & she did not know that the hotel had told the first representative this. She actually questioned whether or not I called the hotel directly and made another reservation & charged it to my card or that possibly I was misreading my bank statement. I assured her that I was not & I read her the lines from my transaction hx. She told me there was nothing they could do & I needed to call the hotel & ask them why they "violated" the terms & to return my money. I immediately called the hotel & a man answered. I started by saying that I booked thru Expedia & he may have gotten a call from them, but I was following up as they told me I needed to call. I explained that I had agreed to no payments now &that my card was charged anyway (calmly). This man was immediately defensive & rude. He said " anywhere down here charges 1 night stay right away." I said "sir that may be the case but it is irrelevant b/c I didn't agree to that. If that's what you do, then those terms need to be stipulated before I sign off. As of now, you took money out of my account that was not authorized." He said , "Well, sorry they told you wrong." I replied, " They didn't "tell" me anything. I have it in writing ..the contract that I agreed to." I then told him that I didn't appreciate the major inconvenience at then grocery store & cannot wait 7 -10 business days to get it back. I was growing increasingly frustrated b/c he never once apologized but spoke like I was the problem . He also accused Expedia of lying & said, " of course that they're going to say that it was us..&.. I'm not canceling this. You need to call them to cancel or I'm not paying them a commission". At this point, I was baffled. Twice throughout my conversation I said IT WAS INSANE how I was being treated. The second time I said it, he YELLED at me & said " I know I've already been told I'm insane twice now" What!? I didn't call him insane. But how I was treated def was! At that point, I saw red and I told him to F off & hung up. Not sorry I did. Btw, a simple Google search of the hotel name shows this payment offer in Expedia ad . Don't use the customer as a ping-pong ball b/c you & Expedia can't get things straight. read more

Where do I start? Paper thin walls and ceilings. You can hear the bar down the streets music all night. It sounds like the band is playing in the parking lot. The children in the room above us must have thought the room was a playground. I am not blaming the children, there is no barrier for the sound. I could hear every person walking passed my room in the morning. The rug in the room was very dirty! How hard is it to clean a rug? Remove the dirty rug from the room. Beds are hard and the pillows are very small. No extra pillows or blankets in the room. The location is in the middle of town which is convenient so you can walk everywhere. Biking to Rehoboth Beach isn't far. Don't think I will stay here again. Update: received a message from the owner assuring me the stained rug was been replaced? I am confused since I stayed at the hotel the last weekend they were open. $99 a night for off season with a rug that should have been thrown in the trash...... For what it is, it was a great stay...clean with all the basics for a pleasant stay. No frills, but the staff was efficient and friendly. It's a short walk to the beach (which by the way is excellently maintained) Close-by convenience stores, restaurants and ice-cream shops. A few comments: - white bedspreads and light-quilted blanket makes it feel like everything is clean (if they were dirty, there would be stains); not saying the bedspreads are washed after each visit, but I felt like the bedspreads were somewhat clean, - a/c in room blows right on the bed closest to it (unable to redirect the air flow), - no coffee maker in the room (but there is a microwave and refrigerator! If I had to choose, I'd go with the microwave and refrigerator, but just pointing out there is no coffee maker in the room, but there is a coffee maker with pods in the office), - the rooms all have 2 big windows making it feel like a fishbowl (we were on the first floor, had to keep the blinds down but how much time is really spent in the room?), - voices carry from folks outside the room (like at the pool, but that falls on common courtesy of other guests). Overall, I would stay at The Beach House again, everything advertised was fulfilled - clean and functional! read more

My husband and I came here for a last minute beach trip. I picked this motel based on it's location. It's within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and bars. Also there weren't a lot of other options available on short notice. The rooms have all been recently remodeled with new laminate floors and new Ikea-like modern furniture. Having a hotel room next to the beach with no carpet is a great idea! That being said, I would think that all of the sand from the previous guest would have been cleaned up by the time I checked in, but the floors were still sandy. I also noticed a few dead bugs on the floor. The bathroom looked recently remodeled as well, but the grout in the shower looked dirty/moldy. There is a shower gel and shampoo dispenser in the shower, but no conditioner, and our shower gel dispenser happened to be empty. There is a mini-fridge and a microwave, which is a plus since there is no breakfast included. Two items noticeably missing from the room are a coffee maker and a hair dryer. My day doesn't start without a coffee, so that is kind of an issue for me. Thankfully there are several breakfast locations within walking distance. There was supposed to be free wifi, but I was never able to connect to it. To summarize, this is a good place to stay if being close to the beach a priority. It seems like Beach House Dewey is trying to be an upscale beach hotel, but I think it's more like an above average but overpriced motel. We got this at a last minute price so I can't complain about the rate. The room itself is nice. The music from the club across the street is insane. It sounds like it's inside the room. There are only 2 pillows per bed, the air conditioning blows directly in your face on one bed, no closet, no hair dryer, no iron/board and the Internet is unreliable. I would give a negative rating in stars if it was an option. I wish Mike the General manager was on duty this morning when we left. The girl that was in the office was horribly rude. When I made a comment on our room smelling like cigarette smoke ( staff smoking area under our room) she replied that on line they say they are a smoking hotel. In fact the only mention of smoking on the website is them stating they have 40 something SMOKE FREE ROOMS. We couldn't even use the pool or sit at the tables because every guest used every area of the grounds as their personal smoking section. Their make shift ash tray was a wheel with hundreds of cigarette butts in it. Even cups with water and cigarettes outside of hotel room doors that we walked by everyday. They were never taken care of. Also at checkout I mentioned our room wasn't serviced at all while we were there. We had to call down for clean towels. The rude lady at the desk said due to COVID we needed to request for them to come get our trash and give clean towels. That would've been nice to have been told that at check in. Last but not least she tried to over charge us for a third night when we were checking out after two nights. She kept saying the math wasn't adding up due to the taxes... I broke the math down for her and she reluctantly refunded the extra night back onto my card. I truly wish Mike had been there this morning he was extremely nice when we interacted with him personally. I was floored with how rude and unprofessional my check out went. So the reason for 3 stars is two fold. The price and the noise level. Other than that the room itself was very Miami Chic and clean. We got a room with two double beds, a large standing mirror, dresser, and small table. This is basically a motel style hotel, our window looked into the parking lot and a small pool, which we did not use. However, there is free parking for one car so that is a plus. The problem with noise isn't really the hotel's fault. The location is great only a few minutes walk to Starboard and several of the other popular bars/restaurants in Dewey. There was a small shopping center to the right of the hotel with pizza, subs, and a Dairy Queen. I think that was the primary source of drunken teenagers screaming and plenty of cop sirens to keep even the strongest sleeper awake. Finally, I paid over 300 including taxes per night. I feel like that is a little bit extreme, I know it is tourist season and all, but still. Also, the beach was a 2 minute walk so that is also a major plus and probably part of the reason for the expense. Overall I give the place 3.5 stars, I probably wouldn't stay there again unless I got a cheaper price, but while I was there I was pretty comfortable. PS. Do NOT stay at this place!!! The ONLY good thing about this hotel is the location. It's within walking distance of the beach and a lot of awesome restaurants. We got there at noon on a Thursday and were told our room wasn't ready because check in wasn't until 3 pm. This seemed fine to us until we actually checked in and we realized 90% of the rooms weren't even being used at all!! There were only about 10 other people in the hotel at this point.... Then, when we go to check out on Saturday, we see several people being allowed to check in at 11 am when we were very strictly told check in was at 3 pm. The new people were also given the wifi password which was not provided to us at any point during our stay. I'm not sure if the staff just disliked the fact that we used a Groupon to book the hotel or what their problem with us was?! The rooms are okay. The one they gave us had Duck tape holding the carpet down but they apparently hated us so that might be the reason for that. Why advertise your business on Groupon if you're going to be dicks to the people who take advantage of the deal?? 10/10 would NOT stay here ever again! read more

If you are coming to Dewey on the weekend during a summer and you are bringing your kids or are hoping to have a nice time with your wife, you don't want to stay here. But that begs the question: why the fuck are you at Dewey with your goddamn kids or your goddamn wife? It's kind of a shitty beach. If you're a sane person, you come to Dewey to get real fucked up. If that's your plan, the Sand Castle is the place to be. Nobody cares what you do or how much noise you make, and it's central to the bars. This is the kind of place where the pool gets trashed every night and there are open handles of liquor sitting around on the balconies the next morning. At first glance I was in love with this hotel; the interior is beautiful and I love the hardwood flooring instead of carpet, I found the deal on Groupon and thought this was an amazing deal. I'm staying here off season so I haven't experience the loud noises but I did hear the other tenants above me and near me this am. There wasn't a huge issue until I realized the DIRTY sheets and blankets! I do like that this is very close to Dewey beach, and other eateries. Bottom line; if you want to re-visit your college days stay here, loud music from the joint across the street plays late into the night, watch your step between 9pm until checkout at 11am (vomit), cigarette butts all over the place, smells of Mary Jane, 2 -4am sounds of rutting bucks coming back to there bedding grounds describing their successful evenings or near misses. The cleanliness of the rooms are exceptional for ~25 yr old unwed partygoers. Unfortunately this was the first trip to the Delaware coast for our family. We will not come back to Dewey beach. Don't dare leave anything behind if you stay here! We stayed here for less than 24 hrs one night a few weeks ago just to get away from the craziness of where we live in OC. On the drive back home the next morning around 9am, I called the hotel as I realized I left my bathing suit hanging up in the shower after I washed it, and wanted to come back and get it. I called 3 times without anyone answering. When I called a little later around 1pm, someone finally answered. I explained that we had just checked out & I had left my bathing suit hanging in the shower and would like to drive back to pick it up. The girl told me that our room had already been cleaned and they did not find a bathing suit. REALLY?! So either they didn't clean the room that well and it's still hanging there, or your cleaning staff stole it. I wasn't about to accuse anyone of anything, so I politely asked if they wouldn't mind checking again as I had only left a few hours ago & know that I had hung it there. Again, she gets back on the phone and tells me she talked to the cleaning crew and none of them had seen it. I then became aggravated and asked to speak to a manager in which she said none were available. I left my number and asked if someone could please get back to me whenever possible. I of course never heard back from anyone because obviously, someone did in fact take it. Moral of the story, just be a decent human being! (Side note-my husband and I had to sleep in separate beds b/c they were so small, the pillows were awful...small, flat & there were no extra ones anywhere, and there was no hairdryer in the bag in the bathroom.) Oh yeah, and I live right over in the next town so I'll be sure to steer anyone away from staying there! They did a really good job on the renovations and initally the place looks super cute but we came to find that the staff are poorly trained and they do not have a great sense of what "clean" means. They chose to utilize the foreign exchange program for their cleaning staff so every morning around 10am we would just find the entire staff seating in front of our room smoking and talking to each other, NOT working. The staff are not professional and in fairness to them, they shouldn't have been put into the hotel positions in the first place. No one ever really cleaned our room so there was constantly sand everywhere. When they did change the sheets to the bed they gave us bloody sheets that we had to ask to be removed. The whole experience was not great and we just felt dirty the entire time. The beds are also the most uncomfortable thing I've ever slept on so prepare to wake up in pain. I would not ever recommend this location to anyone and the only reason i'm giving it 2 stars is because of the renovation and the proximity to the beach. If you don't care about cleanliness or poor customer service than this would be an ok option. read more

Stayed at Beach House Dewey last April (late in April). This is a motel with an updated, boutique-light look. Great location in the Dewey Beach area. No beach views unfortunately, but we took advantage of the 2-minute walk to the beach without the need for hauling all our beach gear in the car, driving ect. Despite not going to Dewey during the middle of busy season, the hotel staff had trouble keeping up with the cleaning of the rooms. Our room wasn't the cleanest upon arrival. We had issues with ants and the floor was sandy/sticky. The accent rug was visibly filthy. There were hairs around the bathroom and living area. I wiped down the surfaces with a Clorox wipe myself. Our room wasn't refreshed at all during our 3-day stay and we had to go ask for more towels. The pool left a lot to be desired. It is quite small and located right in the middle of the parking lot. I don't think this hotel is worth the value during the summer/busy season - but at the time I didn't mind the cost I paid for April as it is cheaper off-season. Still in a great location in Dewey. The area is very walkable and the beach near the hotel is nice. The hotel room is cute and despite super flat pillows, the bed was relatively comfy. We did not experience issues with noise, but that is likely due to the time of year. Probably wouldn't stay here again though. The ants followed us home. read more

Went to this hotel for a quick, affordable beach getaway with my hubby. Hotel was clean, renovated, had all the essentials and a personal touch. Simply appointed, cool/minimalist/mod design. Hotel staff was pleasant and didn't mind answering questions about things to do in the area, although I'm sure they are bored of this question. Free parking was great. Bed was clean and comfy. Pool needed more regular cleaning but was convenient and cheery. On the downside, housekeeping was a little slow and the children can be a bit loud outside if your room is on the first floor. Overall, I really liked it and would stay here again in a heartbeat based on the discounted price that I paid. Limited # of king size rooms so ask for this in advance. read more

Nice play to stay for a weekend in dewey. Went for a bachelorette party and checked in with no problems on Friday night. The rooms are very spacious with a great full length mirror. The bathroom could be a little bigger.. the beds are soOoOo comfy and there's a great comforter. The air conditioner is very, very cold but feels amazing. Hardwood floors look great but for some people who needed to crash on the floor, carpets would've been cool. The pool is nice, tiny area for lounging and sitting. Food and bars are all around, literally across the street and the beach is right out the front door. Would def stay there again! read more

This is a motel, not a hotel. The rooms are looks clean, but they have bed bugs. There were some flies too in room. I can't forgive you for the bed bugs though. Anyone wants to stay at this beach house Dewey its probably not the best place. read more

Very disappointed. Hotel was just dirty & the guests were just loud, & almost every guest sat outside their rooms smoking a cigarette. Although it states these are non smoking areas. I booked online. When we arrived earlier (12:15) I paid the balance for our stay immediately. Asked to use restroom after a long trip to be told their Libby has no bathroom?? The woman told me to call at 1:30 to CK if room was ready. When I called at 1:30 another person answered saying she couldn't find my reservation & I can hear the woman who I spoke to & paid in the background I was put on hold for 5 min, for the girl to come back on asking what it was I wanted? I explained again I was told to CK if room was ready. I booked with a request to be close to pool we were put on the 3rd floor nowhere near it. I will say the rooms were clean and very updated. We had to keep asking them to replenish our towels etc not enough was put in room. Beds were comfortable for the most part. The door chain was broken off though. This is located across the street from the cork & bottle bar. It was extremely loud alot louder than you'd expect no insulation in those rooms to block sound. There were drunk guests at the pool until at least 11pm being loud & abnoxious. Let's put it this way we didn't feel safe staying here. Proximity to beach was wonderful but sadly our stay was far from enjoyable. We scored a great price for being July but paid the price for that. Looking up rates for even the week after we were there 7/14-16 the price per night doubled that was shocking. The pool is half shaded the entire day & there are very limited amount of chairs. I do not recommend this hotel. read more
