Focused exclusively on the $$$, not on the patient. Recommended seven fillings while a 2nd opinion concluded that none were needed. Out of the last four visits two resulted in infections in the mouth. Now, after two crowns on the left, I cannot eat on the left side anymore. Simply laughable and unqualified cosmetic dentistry provided here. I requested a repair to a porcelain veneer which had been correctly repaired before using a double bonding agent and different etching acids to the tooth and the veneer surface and I requested that this approach be applied, I was told composite repairs are all done the same way (a complete falsehood) and then told it wouldn't last but a few weeks (when prior repair lasted over a year and half), told the composite repair wouldn't be done and I must replace the veneer instead for $1500 and even if I did do the composite they would charge more than $400 (prior repair was $150). The school attended by the treating dentist is an unknown 3rd tier private school in Florida and the entire event was a malpractice money gauge attempt of incompetence. Don't go here, I left went two blocks away and had the correct work done rapidly in20 minutes for $250. Can I give a negative star rating here somehow? read more

My family and I have been patients for over 15 years, and now I drive 45 minutes to still remain a patient. I have seen both Dr. Hopkins and Dr. Kane for Check Ups, Fillings and Crowns, and probably all of the hygienists in the office over the years. I've never received anything but fantastic service, you will be in excellent hands when you come here. They are all very clearly up on the latest research, technology, etc. when it comes to your teeth. Also, a lot of the little extras make a trip to the dentist much easier like how nice everyone is (I'm always amazed how much everyone remembers about me, and they also all sent me a card signed by everyone when I got engaged!), plus they have great TV's and headsets to make the time go by faster. I have been seeing Dr. Hopkins, and staff, since 2004. At that time they were on my insurance "preferred provider" list, which saved me a great deal of money. Although they are no longer a "preferred provider", I am willing to pay the difference to continue having all of my work done here. I also moved to Long Beach, and still continue to use Dr. Hopkins. Everyone in the office is friendly and professional. My cleanings are always thorough, and after having many crowns, I can say that Dr. Hopkins is pain-free, and does very fast work. Dr. Kane is truly the best dentist I have ever had! I have acid reflux, so I am very prone to cavities. She does an incredible job at catching the cavities early, and being very gentle while filling them. I have not seen Dr. Hopkins, but after reading the content of the negative reviews here, I have decided to just simply share my story. I called Dr. Hopkins' office to make an appointment for a cleaning. I told the receptionist, Linda, that I had been to another dentist three months ago, and that dentist cleaned my teeth himself because he could not afford to hire a hygienist (new practice). He literally took 10-15 minutes to clean my teeth, and while I was sitting in the chair, I just knew he wasn't getting down deep, as hygienists do. So, I asked Linda if she knew if Delta would pay for another cleaning so soon. She went off on some crazy-sounding tangent that honestly didn't make much sense as she was talking. She said "insurance companies have not grown in 20 years, and they pay 1000 to 1500 a year, and one crown could cost 1300 dollars, and basically the gist of what I got from her tangent was, "shame on you for not wanting to cough up 300 dollars a couple times a year to get your teeth cleaned!" She also told me that as we age, we need our teeth cleaned much more often (never mind the fact that I didn't even mention my age to her). She and her attitude were VERY much in my face! I tried to put that aside, and told her I would like to go ahead and make an appointment, and that I would just pay cash for it. We set a date and then she said, "at the appointment, you will have a THOROUGH cleaning (followed by a chuckle) and a full set of x-rays. I told her I do not want to have x-rays. She insisted that a full set of x-rays is REQUIRED. I told her that I worked in dentistry for 12 years, and as a patient, I feel it is my right to NOT be radiated if I choose not to be. I told her that I'd had x-rays three months ago, and she actually told me that they would just go ahead and do a full set anyway! I told her I don't want a full set since I'd just had x-rays three months prior. She then said, "well, we will get your x-rays and then fill in the ones that are missing, to make a full set". I told her that I REALLY don't want any x-rays, and as a patient and consumer, I feel it is my right to refuse excess radiation! She then abruptly said, "one minute, I'll talk to Dr. Hopkins". She then placed me on hold for a few minutes and came back and said that he REQUIRES full mouth x-rays. I'm guessing that it IS his prerogative to refuse to see me as a new patient if I don't "comply" with his rules, and that is actually okay with me. It is HIS practice and I respect that fully. What I do NOT respect is the bitchy, pushy, power-hungry receptionist that tries to intimidate patients! I will NOT go to this office and I WILL pass this experience on to my friends, family, and my circle of dental assistants, hygienists and dentists. Her attitude combined with her tone is something that I will never put up with! I am a very nice, very pleasant person, and I have worked with people like her in the past. If this were MY practice, she'd be outta there in a heartbeat! What a MAJOR turn-off! By the way, I worked in the dental field for 12 years, both chairside (Registered Dental Assistant with x-ray license), receptionist, AND office manager for 6-1/2 years. If I would have ever had to work with a personality such as Linda's, I would have told her that is NO WAY to treat a patient...especially a potential patient! Rude! My husband has seen Dr. Hopkins in the past, and he has not gone back because he says he doesn't like the pressure his office puts on him to have work done. My husband literally has maybe one crown and one filling. Dr. Hopkins told him that he has "tiny surface cracks" on some teeth and they should be crowned! That was four or five years ago and his teeth are just fine! I had braces three times, and have surface cracks on all of my teeth. I wonder if Dr. Hopkins would want to crown them all!? After reading the reviews here of how he allegedly "up-sells" his services, I wonder...if that is true, how does he sleep at night? One more thing...once you go to that office be FULLY prepared to be HOUNDED with phone calls from them!! I recall getting WAY too many phone calls from that office, trying to get my husband to go back! Back to square one. Looking for a GREAT dentist who truly cares more about the patient's well-being than padding his/her bank account. I'm not implying nor expressing that Dr. Hopkins is THAT type of dentist, but the negative reviews on Yelp and my own experience have brought me to the conclusion that I don't want any part of that office. read more

I just moved from Long Beach to the Redondo beach area and I've been searching on Yelp for dentist options in the local area and I stumbled upon Dr. Hopkins & Dr. Kane which had great reviews about the staff and the doctors. First time visit was a great experience and nothing but great things to say. The office is extremely clean and not your usual boring dentist office. I read a review from a current patient that said that they had TV's on the ceiling and that may have sold me. There is nothing better than being distracted by the TV while your while getting your teeth cleaned because time goes by a lot quicker. I must say that the staff was very pleasant especially Sharla Henderson who took my x-rays and was very personable and made me feel comfortable. I'm personally really picky when it comes to finding a dentist I feel comfortable with; however, after this experience I would have no problem going back and keeping up with my routine checkups. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes watching TV while getting their teeth cleaned or simply looking for a super cool office with an amazing staff that will take care of your dental needs. read more

According to her review about Linda, She couldn't be more wrong about her. Linda is such a genuine sweet person. Every time I've gone in, I've always been worked on by her. She has been there for years and has taken care of myself and my family. I have to say she is the reason I continuously go back to Dr Hopkins office. The rest of the team is always polite and is welcoming to new patients. I'm sure Ann D just was having a bad day in general. My wife had me switch to Dr. Hopkins because she could not stop talking about how great he was. I finally went and had a great experience. I've never had such a thorough exam. It makes me wonder what my previous dentists were doing. Dr. Hopkins is so easy going and always explains things very thoroughly and is good about answering all of my questions. I've been a patient of Dr. Hopkins for 20 years and would recommend him to anyone. He's very caring and sympathetic to his patients especially when the patient is experiencing pain. The front office staff is top-notch, which with any provider, is a pet peeve of mine. They are professional, competent and fun.
