Short version: conflicting information, "special deal" that wasn't, and unprofessionalism. I hope they aren't taking other people's credit check fees if their experiences are similar to mine. I have been renting in different cities for the past 17 years and this is the first time I have ever encountered this type of unprofessional rental company. If you're considering them, I suggest you look for others. Good luck. Long version: there were 3 of us, a full-time professional and 2 retirees looking for a 3-bedroom apartment. Everything started really well, Tony seemed like a man of integrity, was easy to talk to, responded quickly. We applied and paid $105 for credit check fees (which supposedly ran on April 22), then on April 24 Tony said "everything looks good" on our credit checks but he gave me conflicted information about why other tenants got the apartment instead of us. Tony said the owner preferred 3 professionals with higher total incomes than 1 professional and 2 retirees, he said he waited until Tuesday evening to tell me because the "company" didn't work on Monday and he was looking for other options, but he also said the other 3 people brought in the deposit on Monday at 10am (how did Tony know? Wasn't the "company" closed?), and that besides him there was another agent showing the house (was it Yolie? He never answered). One of the alternatives was a downstairs apartment from the same owner who was willing to give it to us (much smaller apartment, one less room, barely any natural light), even though Tony had said the same owner was wary of retirees' incomes (even though they are steady incomes and "everything looked good" from our credit check reports). Doesn't add up at all. We then went back and forth about other apartment options while I requested a refund of our background credit fees--and all of the other options he was giving us were not matching with what we had spoken about. Yolie got involved towards the end, probably trying to fix whatever misinformation Tony had provided to me. Yolie even tried to give me a "deal just for me" when online it advertised for the same amount (what a special deal, thanks), then I requested the credit reports they ran on us and I questioned them about the date on the reports (which were dated [edit] May 1--8 days after they had said that "everything looked good on my credit report", really? Did they spend another $30 total to re-run the 3 reports or did they never run the reports in the first place and were just going to trust my information and profit $30? Seems unreasonable). After not answering any of my questions about the information they had provided to me (starting with Tony's conflicting reasons why we didn't get the apartment), she then proceeded to tell me to stop harassing them. If they continue to stay in business, I sure hope they are honest with people, tell them what actually happened, and answer they questions without hiding behind the shield of I'd-rather-not-answer-to-your-questions-because-we-don't-have-good-answers-so-I'll-call-it-harassment. Good luck. --- Response to Tony: Tony--These comments should definitely NOT come as a shock to you or Yolie, we talked about this at length both on the phone and on text messages. If you have any doubts, please refer to our text messages. Let me know if you'd like copies. Accept your mistakes, learn, and grow. Response to #1: You did tell me that the owner was concerned about my retired parents' income. You never attempted to re-explain what had happened. Yes, you provided the credit reports with May 1 dates on them, but Yolie never answered or provided me with proof that the credit reports were ran before I requested the copies--should have had April 22 or 23 dates on them. You never cleared your conflicting explanations about us not getting the apartment--I explained all of this to you on a text message dated April 26, I even said, that if you refund me the money and we found something else with you, I'd had been more than happy to repay you the fees, I didn't hear back from you until April 30. Response to #2: I was never "supposed to take" any of your apartments. We went to see a couple, which were not even close to similar compared to the original. Only one time was there a time conflict where I/my brother couldn't make it, and I informed you of it. Response to #3: I never informed you on what my final decision was, Yolie, you and I ceased communications on May 2, and I didn't finalize anything until after that. As you can see, I'm not asking for the refund. If you provide substantial answers that deserve a response, I will respond, but if we're going to go in circles, like I feel we're doing now, I'd much rather attend other matters. All I ask is that you treat future clients with respect, answer their questions, provide clear answers and explanations, and run an honest business. Relocating across the country is about as stressful as it comes, and it was made doubly so by the lack of responses to the multitude of apartment listings we called that never bothered to call us back. Coming from New York and knowing very little about the Long Beach area, Yolie helped assure me I was making the right decision by renting an apartment in Belmont Heights. I had a great experience with Beachside rentals. I moved to Long Beach from Santa Barbara and needed to find a place on short notice. Tony worked with my schedule to show the apartment I ended up renting and was very helpful during move-in. My garbage disposal stopped working shortly after moving in and they fixed it immediately. Otherwise the apartment was flawless. Communication during my entire stay was always very quick, and Tony was very helpful during the move-out process as well. REASON 2: It was already frustrating dealing with one person but to deal with two people and no one was really available and no one knew what the other one was saying. ..... really!!! The typical agreement for resident managers is to have a free or reduced rent apartment in exchange for unlimited hours of work managing the building. Lackluster apartment, and then I could tell I was being packed in to fit the needs of the building and not my actual wants.Your prices and reputation are one in the same. Just be aware if you are renting from them to make sure to take lots of pictures before and after you move in to document the state of the apartment and the building so that there's no confusion about who pays for what. I also highly recommend if you ever have any questions reaching out to the Long Beach tenants' union as they are very helpful. Beachside rentals is not a very professional company to work with and they will keep your security deposit most likely so be prepared to know what you should be getting back and know that as soon as you cash that check it is an acceptance of whatever they returned so don't cash the check until you are in agreement with the amount they return to you. I would give them a one star but the on-site manager of the apartment we rented, Jeff, is a good on-site manager. I moved here from out of country and Beach Side Rentals has been very helpful and accommodating. I was not familiar with the area or the people but Yolie made the transition easier for me. I was actually pretty surprised at the prices because my fiancé and myself have been looking all around Los Angeles area. For the same price as as a small studio in LA, we got a one bedroom that was beach side! Long Beach itself is no Bel-Air but there's something about this city that makes it very quaint and charming. Yolie and Tony are the worst property managers in the Long Beach area. We have had multiple issues with our rental and they never do anything to fix the issues. We had to have the Fire Department called twice after being locked inside our rentals (imagine if there was a fire...) When you meet them, do not be fooled by their act. After you sign, their true colors show. They will tell you that anything that happens during your rental is your responsibility. The building we occupy not only has multiple mice in most of the walls of the unit, but also black mold in the shower and on the high ceilings. They never give you a heads up that they are coming by the appartment (which is a california code) When you bring up an issue, they tell you off over the phone and tell you to deal with it yourself. By far the most unprofessional people I have ever worked with. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of "BS rentals". They are scumlords and do not care about any of their tenants, especially Yolie. I don't really write reviews but Yolie was genuinely the best building manager I've ever had. I lived at a Beachside Rentals property for two years until last month. I can't recommend them enough. We initially saw the banner on the building and an "open house" sign and called. Met with Yolie to view some apartments, and rented on the spot. She is such a warm, helpful and kind person. The process was easy, we moved in the next day. Over our time in the building we had little to no maintenance requests and I don't remember ever feeling like I was not a priority even though the building has many residents. The thing I loves the most besides Yolie and Tony was the community feel in the building. Everyone smiles and says hello when you see them and it reminds me of the southern homey feel back home. We would walk our dog around the neighborhood and see the same people every day, who we came to know fondly. I wouldn't have moved if I didn't have to for work but I plan to contact Beachside Rentals if I ever move back to the city. 10/10 Thank you Yolie/Tony for being so wonderful to us. read more

The property on 1007 E. Ocean Blvd. has bed bugs. When we brought this over to Yoli's attention she told us that we brought the bed bugs ourselves from Mexico. We are hispanic, but we are not from Mexico or have ever traveled to Mexico, we have not traveled since moving in to the unit. Although there has been a rent increase from the apartment building's new ownership, our new property manager, Yolie Whitmore, (two separate individuals), has been quite PLEASANT to work with. She's very understanding, FAIR and has an open-door policy when speaking with her about different issues that may arise. My sister and brother-in-law have lived here for several years when rent was extremely low especially for it being across the street from the beach; however, they both are willing to pay the increase in rent due to the quality of care and consideration from Yolie. We're Asian-Hispanic-American and have NEVER encountered any kind of racism or discrimination. When I first reached out to "Beachside Rentals R Us" it was for a small Studio apartment on the beach off of Ocean Blvd, in Long Beach. This unit was a bit too small for me, and I chose to keep looking. As I drove around the area I kept seeing that familiar "Beachside Rentals R Us" sign and figured it couldn't hurt to give them another call. When I called I spoke with Tony, who was immediately helpful, but not pushy as many of the renters I had spoken to had been. Rather then suggest a bunch of locations, he asked me what I was looking for and what my requirements were. I told him and he not only provided the locations, but actually met with me to see the properties and walk through them. There was unfortunately a mis-post about one of the units from an app called PadMapper, which was the fault of the owners of the property and in no way reflecting upon Tony or "Beachside Rentals R Us". Tony mentioned to me that he told the property a few times that they need to update their site and make sure it is clear. Disappointed I asked Tony if there were any other comparable properties nearby. He made it a mission to do right by me. I told him about a property nearby I was interested in but that wanted me to move in too soon for my current lease to end. He called the property and was able to show me another unit that would be remodeled and ready by my preferred Move-in Date. He then negotiated a much lower deposit due to the inconvenience from the past rental he had showed me. He responded to all my messages and random questions quickly and respectfully. Tony and "Beachside Rentals R Us" truly made my move to Long Beach not only possible, but an easy and pleasant experience. Tony and Yolie were wonderful to work with. Both of them were very responsive to our calls and messages and were professional throughout. My boyfriend and I went to check out one of the properties they represent and met Tony who showed us around and waited patiently as we went through the unit looking at all sorts of details. He then met us again the next night to do the same thing when we wanted to see the place again. We turned in a deposit check but then had a change of heart. Even though the check was cashed, they made sure to give me a full refund in 2 bus. days and took time out of their schedule to deliver the check. I don't know which Yoli you folks are speaking about. She took over our building and decided to raise everybody's rent by over 30%. Upon speaking with our neighbors we discovered that she is calling apartment management in the area and asking them to raise rent to justify charging obscene amounts for studios that are less than 300 ft2, have rodent problems and have been broken into multiple times. She made no effort to speak to anyone just moved right in and raised the rent most likely in order to get rid of the folks that are trying to handle jobs and school at the same time.
