I got 2 donuts. A Boston Cream and a vanilla lavender donut. The Boston cream had some special coca powder or chocolate essence added on top. The pudding was good in the Boston Cream. Had a nice level of MOISTNESS. The second donut was drier and didn't have pudding in it. It also had some kind of otherworldly color on the inside. The color reminded me of a shirt or pair of pants I might wear. The place is an alley but it's definitely spacious. Ate my donut on the patio like structure. All my life, I've eaten donuts. I also enjoy donuts from all walks of life -- from Entenmann's from Wal Mart to Voodoo Donuts in Portland. I say this with authority: the Boston cream donut from Beacon is the best donut in America. And on top of that, I don't comprehend how it can be vegan. Has someone audited this? There's no butter from a cow in that donut -- cream, pastry, or icing? I'd also recommend any of their fruit donuts and the chocolate glazed brioche donuts. A trip to Beacon Doughnuts is tons of fun. Who doesn't like going to a nearly hidden joint in an alley? It reminds me of Three Dots and a Dash or hole-in-the-wall spot that only locals know. On top of its tucked away status, Beacon Doughnuts has super fun decor to it's walk-up window. It looks like a tropical vacation with large banana leaf paintings and wicker light fixtures. My spouse and I love Beacon Doughnuts for different reasons. I love it because of all of the fun flavors. Orange Pistachio and Lavender Vanilla are my favorites because the flavors are SO INTENSE! These doughnuts would pair great with a cup of strong tea or coffee. My spouse loves Beacon Doughnuts because they're vegan. I don't know anything about vegan doughnuts but apparently these are really good ones. My spouse thinks that all of the doughnuts are far too sweet. It was easy to get our doughnuts when we first started going to Beacon Doughnuts a couple months ago. We could walk right up to the window and make a quick transaction. Then, we'd scoot over to the next window (Herb-n-Juice) to get a delicious smoothie. Those were the good ol' days. Beacon Doughnut's popularity has exploded and there are long lines down the alley. The lines of people waiting to order their doughnuts gets confused with the group waiting for their orders to come out. OMG. First off, Tiktok sent me here. I like to think I'm pretty savvy finding cool and quirky places to around the city etc. This one has been on my radar so I decided to visit on a Sunday morning. Arrived probably around 9:30 in the morning during some inclement weather. There were two other people waiting for their donuts when I arrived. It's down a small alley about 25 feet off Armitage. You can't miss it. There's a donut menu, a yogurt/bowl menu and a drink menu. I ordered a s'mores doughnut and a carrot cake donut as well as a hot coffee. After my order I overheard the next customer ask if they were any vegan donuts. And I thought the order taker said that all of their donuts were vegan. I'm not sure if this is the case but you might want to check. Either way if it was vegan they tasted amazing. My preference was the carrot cake doughnut which I enjoyed more than the s'mores donuts. If it wasn't just me this morning, I probably would've ordered at least six donuts because the flavors are so unique and beautifully presented. It's obvious they use high-quality ingredients. They also had some very interesting Chia/yogurts type bowls. Please refer to the menu board pictures. There was a small seating area of patio furniture but other than that there's really nowhere to sit. It's more like a grab and go. Super cute overall. Great place to take photos for the gram etc. but instead of consuming yourself or taking photos and videos just try to enjoy the little space because it is really pretty and unique. Incredible donuts, and for the record I am not a vegan and I love donuts. Blueberry pancake This was like a cake donut, but slightly fluffier crumb, and it had a blueberry compote topping that was incredible. There was a little too much powdered sugar on top, which made a mess, but otherwise it was like a perfect donut. Apple Fritter The outside of this donut was great. Really good crunch and a very nice caramelly coating. The apples inside were delicious too, very fresh. The dough itself was not the most flavorful, and was a little too bready, but still a very good donut. Lavender Vanilla This was like a traditional cake donut, flavored with lavender and topped with a nice glaze. Honestly, the lavender was too strong, and it ended up seeming kind of soapy, but the texture of the donut was amazing. The crust was perfectly crunchy. They had a nice selection. I think the key is to pick a donut with flavors you know you will enjoy, i.e. don't take too many risks, and you should have a great experience. read more

Forewarning the place is in the alley if you can't find it. To be honest the doughnuts left much to be desired. There wasn't a "wow" factor to them at all but I reckon it was because most of the more creative ones were already sold out. What did amaze me was the beet juice & matcha peanut butter cup. The beet juice was quite possibly the best I've had & the peanut butter was a welcome surprise as my experience with matcha is slim to none. For about a year, Beacon Doughnuts has been the not only the best vegan doughnut in Chicago, but in the top of best Chicago doughnuts...period. We went today a bit late and got a dozen of the four flavors they had left. Doesn't matter. They are all delicious! And the exterior of this place is beautiful, caked (pun intended) in an eye-catching mural that almost makes you forget that you are standing in a Chicago alley, waiting for your goodness. We drove an hour 40 round trip to bring these beauties home today, and worth every minute. My fav is the Apple fritter, and Kori's is the Boston Cream. Holy Sh*t these are good! I had never heard of Beacon Doughnuts, and I can't believe what I was missing! My sister and brother-in-law (both vegan) bought 6, cut them all in half and split them with us. (We didn't know they were getting donuts, and knew nothing about Beacon until after eating the first 3). These are so good that I really doubted they were vegan. I was sure the carrot cake one wasn't, but that didn't make any sense why they bought it. These are the best doughnuts I've ever had. Granted I'm not a doughnut person, but I am a dessert lover! I lean towards chocolate everything, and normally pick chocolate cake doughnuts. -The double chocolate sea salt was the first one we tasted. It was amazing. My toddler and I LOVED it. Ho-lee-crap, these were good! It was my birfday and so my sister preordered a mixed half dozen for us to take to the beach and they were soo good! The super cute alley entrance was supposed to be hidden, but the line wrapping around the street gave away the location. The orange pistachio was fantastic, and the texture of the chocolate brioche one was perfect. The blueberry pancake one was moist and full of berries and the vanilla lavender one had just the right floral touch. When I heard about all the vegan options at Beacon, I knew I had to drive in from the burbs to try it out. Beacon has a super easy order ahead feature so your doughnuts are ready to go when you arrive. The pickup window is inside the alley. All the doughnuts we tried were super fresh and delicious. Sometimes I can find cake doughnuts a little too dense, but Beacon has really perfected this type of doughnut. It's soft, fluffy, and not too dense. I ordered the carrot cake doughnut and got an apple fritter for my dad. The carrot cake doughnut was smaller than your average doughnut but it packs a punch!!! The frosting was super creamy, soft, and smooth. The doughnut was frosted with a glaze and filled with carrot shavings which added another level of texture. These have become my favorite donuts in Chicago. I can't believe these are vegan and are better than all the other non-vegan donut shops. I haven't tried a flavor that I didn't like, but my favorite is their classic chocolate glazed (the dough is so fluffy). As a lactose-intolerant doughnut lover, I really appreciate this place. Their flavors are abundant and unique! After the first bite of every new flavor we can't help but exclaim: "Wow, this is EXACTLY how I imagined this one to taste!" So much so we've planned our weekend running routes around it - a donut run you could say. Our new fave is the Pumpkin Spice Brioche: it has an inexplicably soft, moist and pillowy middle layer. Other faves include the Samoa, Blueberry Pancake, and Double Chocolate & Sea Salt. The Lavender Vanilla and Devil's Food Birthday Cake are beautifully crafted too and faithful to their names in flavor, but the texture didn't blow us away as much.
