The stars weren't matching the reviews as it showed only 3* but I listened to the Yelpers and decided to come. One thing I'm liking about Augusta is they tell you to just seat yourself. There is plenty of parking. I'm not sure why it's called "at the river" bc I didn't see a river. There is inside and an outside enclosed area for seating when you enter from the parking lot. It is decorated like a casual bar and grill. My server was in training but friendly and worked alongside his trainer head server. For beverages, I ordered the oyster shooter and that Bloody Mary did not disappoint. I also had a Black Raspberry Margarita. This seems to be a thing in Augusta for Margaritas as well as this was the 2nd restaurant I went to and had this. The other place was better though. But let's talk about the food! The catfish was super tasty. They gave me fries although I didn't order them, and of course I still ate them. I had a side of baked potato salad. I should've asked why they're baked, but that was just okay. I had the TASTE OF BEAMIES- chicken & shrimp gumbo, black eyed pea jambalaya, shrimp and grits, my fav's in order were the chicken and shrimp gumbo, the shrimp and grits, then the black eyed pea jambalaya. I also ordered the 1/2 dozen Rockefeller oysters and they were amazing. The hush puppies that came with them were just okay. Overall, I enjoyed this meal. read more

Food was ok. I requested Scallops on a bed of rice. Well, the Scallops were slightly overcooked, the bed of rice was about 2 grains thick. Very skimpy. I also asked for Horseradish and got a small cup, perhaps a teaspoon. Skimpy. In fact, I felt for what I paid was nowhere near worth the price. My wife even commented the portions were so small. The food reminded me of pub food. Funny. I told my wife I dont care for pub food,. Well..... Now the Key Lime Pie was great, and the waitress was very accommodating and nice. Great service. We sat in the enlosed porch, thinking it would be quieter. Nope. In fact, I had visions I was at a convention. My wife and I had much difficulty conversing. I guess we chose the wrong place to sit. Beamie's at the river did not disappoint. Not sure why such mediocre reviews, but we had a great time with great food at this place. Carter provides excellent service and amazing southern hospitality. We were actually traveling from Charleston to Savannah to Atlanta and stumbled upon this place on the way to Charleston since it's have way. We just so happened to make it to happy hour between 3-6. Food was priced well as well as the drinks. I actually want to say they had better seafood than a few places that we visited from Charleston. Oysters were good, crawfish was a bit smaller, but good. The ambiance was bit on the dive bar side so don't expect much, but what they lack in ambiance, they made up pricing and flavors. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

This was our bi-weekly restaurant choice. I've wanted to go for a while but it was never chosen. Outside seating was quite loud so we sat inside which was much better. Our food was very good and the service was as good as it could be with our waitress serving both outside tables AND our table which was about as far apart as you could get. Stop by here for lunch since DD had a coupon for a free shrimp basket. Beamies has been in Augusta since 1994 and seems "lived in" with a lot of colorful kitschy beach decorations ie. plastic parrots, crabs and fish. Just what you would expect from a beach shack kind of place. We sat in the enclosed porch with about half a dozen other patrons. Our server came right over to get our drink order (coke and water). We decided to start with steamed shrimp. The shrimp were large but a bit over cooked and tough. It also looked like they sprinkled Old Bay over the shrimp once it was steamed but it could have benefited from some seasoning during the cooking process as it seemed a bit bland. They did serve it with drawn butter which was nice. I also requested cocktail sauce and it was very good with the right amount of zip. My DD got her fried shrimp basket with a side of baked potato salad and I ordered a fried oyster basket with the potato salad. DD said she had the grits last time she was there and wasn't a fan. The potato salad was creamy and yummy. Both of our entrees soon arrived and they were delicious. The shrimp and oysters were lightly breaded and tender (we shared of course). The baskets are served with a side and two hush puppies. Unfortunately the hush puppies were very small and too dense and dry to be enjoyable. Our servers were nice and attentive. They seemed to be training new servers so we had several but each was just as sweet as the first. Overall I think this is a pretty decent place to have basic seafood. As we waited we looked over their Happy Hour (3-6 daily) specials which seem solid and calls for a return trip soon. I wish we could award 1/2 stars because I would give it 4 and 1/2 but will have to go with 4. read more

Sometimes you have to take the fried food dive. I ordered the seafood platter with catfish which I requested to be extra crispy. They didn't disappoint. Oh, fyi it was my first time trying oysters. I had a wonderful experience here at Beamie's! This was my first visit to Augusta and I'm so happy I choose to have lunch here. DOZIER delivered great service he was friendly and checked on us often. We led with the Oyster Rockefeller, which was delicious! Some of the best I've ever had. I ordered the the Oyster and Shrimp basket with hush puppies, I could eat this everyday although my hush puppies were really hard they did have a good taste. I also ordered a side of grits, they were full of flavor. I really enjoyed my experience here and whenever I am in town I will come back here for all my seafood needs. We picked Beamie's at the River because of its reviews, that it was a casual seafood restaurant, and that it might be along the river. First off, Beamie's is not on the Savannah River, it is a few minutes' walk away. There is no view of the river at Beamie's. From the moment we entered, there was an awkward vibe from the folks who worked at Beamie's. They were always in a rush to move, but the strange thing is that nothing was rushed about order taking or bringing out the food. They weren't unfriendly, but they really didn't know how to interact comfortably. The food was mostly tasty, but we remember some of the dishes being oversalted. We each had a beer, seafood or fish, hushpuppies, green beans, grits, and rice. If you have an aversion to dogs, please know that Beamie's lets dogs (including big dogs) in their restaurant. If you're in a pinch, Beamie's could work, but we figure there are better options. read more

We love Beamies and the food is always good and was good tonight, but service was horrible tonight. Waiter took forever to bring out our grandsons drink and then forgot to put in our grandsons kids meal that came out 10 to 15 minutes after the four adult meals. Mistakes happen, but the major issue is he just sort of disappeared in the back of the restaurant. Had to walk back there and ask where the kids meal was. Then when it came time to leave he just sort of disappeared again. Finally had another waitress go get him and sat there and waited for him while the rest of the family had already gone to the car. This was my first experience dining here. Was attending a conference at the Marriott and this was within walking distance from it. We were a party of 12 for lunch and were seated within 5 minutes. Our server Joy, was very sweet. She took our orders with a lot of patience and a smile on her face. I ordered the fried shrimp Po Boy sandwich with fries. It was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed every bite of it. The shrimp was a very good size and plenty of serving in the sandwich. Definitely going back again with my family. Okay, this is a short review because I just dropped in for a bite between appointments. Without much time, I wanted something quick. I got a cup of gumbo and an iced tea. While I really didn't expect much (gumbo is a VERY subjective thing), this bowl was excellent! I've only had one other that was better! Located across the street from the Augusta convention center. I have been to the restaurant a couple of times for lunch. This past weekend I had the opportunity to stop there to see if the weekend fared any different. The environment feels a bit dated. The decor at the bar and the entrance from the street remind you of a seafood tavern with its little bit of ocean decor. The fish tank that divides the bar from the dining room, is in need of some heavy cleaning and some freshwater to replace all the algae. The service was top-notch. I ordered the chicken tender, shrimp basket, and catfish. I notice the crowd growing as people were coming in for lunch. I cannot go wrong with morning suds and fried finger food. My co-workers and friends enjoy returning to the location for lunch, so I would recommend the food for the downtown location and price. read more

This was such a cute little place. The people were friendly and overall it was a good experience. You must try the Beamie's punch it was fantastic. While I wanted to love this place, I'll settle for like. The oyster Rockefeller was AMAZING! We thought we'd eat other things but really just ordered 3 dozen and that's all. For someone with a shrimp allergy the menu was somewhat limited because although the jambalaya and gumbo had me salivating, they had shrimp.
