We planned 2 weeks out to try Fat Man's on our travel from NC down to GA. And highly looked forward to showing our friend some southern hospitality and food. The person taking our order got all confused. He could not keep up with our order. And he didn't even appear to want to try. Needless to say when our order came out it was incorrect. We knew at this point trying to say anything or have our order corrected would have just reduced our experience even more. The Texas toast was not toasted enough, the bread was still soft. The fried sides were cold and soggy, definitely not cooked fresh for us. This restaurant was huge let down! I would not waste my money! To Fat Man's management, please increase quality control in the kitchen! Hire and train alert, friendly and knowledgeable cashiers. 1st time eating at the Cafe. We went after 1300. The place was almost deserted. Had to get our bearings on walking in. You order at the counter which is all the way at the back. They have a huge selection but it is a little hard to navigate if you have not been there before. The food was good and the price was not excessive which is to say it was not great or a bargain. This was a surprise find while in Augusta. The staff always very attentive, the food was great and the prices were unbelievably low for what you received. I ordered a kids meal with chicken strips and fries (which my 4 year old loved) and a meat and 2 with grilled chicken, rice and gravy and mac and cheese. Just had lunch at Fat Man's for the first time and oh my goodness I am in full southern cooking food coma right now. Everything we ordered was amazing! I especially enjoyed the hamburger steak (came with 2 large patties!), squash casserole and fried pickles. I'm definitely coming back to try more of their menu and next time I'll allow myself to be persuaded by their desserts. After getting off the boat tour, my kid was hungry. We saw Fat Man's and gave it a try. My daughter got the kids hot dog meal. I got a side of fries. My daughter's food came out...with fries and I had to wait for my order. I thought they might be cooking a new batch, nope I got cold fries...her hotdog was boiled or microwaved, not cooked on the stove/grill. Very underwhelmed about the quality of the food. I have always enjoyed Fat Man's Cafe. Most people forgot it was still in Augusta. They've moved the location from Laney Walker Blvd. to Greene Street in the Enterprise Mill complex. I dropped by for a to-go order. No time to sit in, but the dining area is huge. The restaurant is large and spacious. Also, it has all exposed brick and concrete floors which gives it an industrial feel. It is located where the Mills once were. The staff is nice. They closed at 3pm. I placed an order around 2:30pm by phone and I got there about 3:10pm for pick-up. The staff was still very nice and accommodating. My order was ready and they still had a few folks still dining in. I ordered a Tuna Salad, which was huge. They always provide large salads. I usually eat a portion and save the rest for later. I haven't tried many other menu items since the move, but I do intend on visiting again. They also provide catering and delivery. If you haven't visited,make it your business to do so. read more

Our Youngest Graduated from H.S in May 2018 and we used Fat Man's Café (Catering services) They delivered everything fresh, Hot and on time (time we requested) The Mashed potatoes weren't their homemade with the skins , But other than that it was a Hit !I especially Like how the Owner did a quality call check. I will think of them in the future for sure. Fat Man's catered our office luncheon today. Needless to say, it was not good at all and we will not be ordering from them again. They brought 'grilled' chicken breasts that looked like boiled, previously frozen chicken that you can buy in bulk from the freezer section at Kroger with someone seasoning sprinkled on top. The fried baby pork chops were tough, but tasted okay. The mashed potatoes they brought were clearly instant with what tasted like jarred, overly-loaded sodium gravy on the side. The squash casserole was so thick and pasty and had random crunchy bites that felt like egg shells in my mouth. I was so disappointed in this food. I thought with the owner going on Food Network Star that the dishes they produced would be better than what my 14 year-old brother could whip together by following directions on a jar or box. read more
