My daughters are really into baking these days so it's nice to show the B&B workers a picture of what elaborate cake we're trying to make and get all the information we need about what baking pipe tips, food coloring, frosting type, etc. are required. They really know baking! We also find much better quality ingredients in the shop than in regular grocery stores. Using the food coloring B&B sells, we only need a few drops to get rich frosting color instead of the half bottle we use with grocery store food coloring. And of course my girls love the kids cookie/cupcake decorating classes! We sign up every chance we get. I had high hopes for this place, but was sadly really disappointed. It's dusty and sad, and the merch is not good quality. They don't have a good selection of things to make candy or chocolates, and the cake supplies were the same as you can get at Michael's . Plus at Michael's, I can use a coupon and have the assurance of a return policy. The 'frosting' they sell looked disgusting- I would never put in near my body. Don't waste your time driving here- not worth it. read more

I signed my 4 year old up for a cookie decorating class and she came home an hour before the class was to begin sneezing and coughing. So I called Bean and Butter right away asking...if we can use the credit for her to take another class (I signed her up for the experience) or if not, if I can get store credit and come back to the store and buy more baking supplies but they refused to accommodate. They said we can pick up the pre-made cookies and bagged royal icing from the class instead of her taking the class- so I asked my husband to do it since I'm so upset. I was going to buy more supplies when I dropped my daughter off and support local (we are Pasadena residents). I was looking forward to being part of this baking community (I took a class Feb 2nd and spent money after the class buying more supplies) but instead, I won't be coming back to Bean and Butter again. Essentially-KIDS GET SICK and my suggestion, if you want to retain customers and not send them straight to Michaels or Amazon is--if you want to offer classes for kids you should probably have some kind of flexibility to allow for sick kids to NOT attend. read more

I followed this shop till it finally opened up and for about 2 years now I've been purchasing from them. Very satisfied and never have a problem. The drive isn't too far away from my house and if I can't drive out there I get my items shipped and they arrive so fast thank god. I love what this store has. All sorts of designed cookie cutters, cake boxes, sprinkles, you name it. The staff are very friendly and are willing to take the time to answer any questions you may have. I'm starting to get into baking so they were so helpful in helping me find the supplies I need. I took the "Vintage Cake Decorating" class yesterday which truly exceeded my expectations. Taught by Belen who knows her business and has put together a class which begins with the question: "Would like chocolate or vanilla?". I was stunned, I had thought we'd be frosting one of those styrofoam dummy cakes, but each student received two hefty pre-baked 8" layers. We learned crumb-coating, finish frosting, and then finally vintage decoration. It was so much fun and each of us left with our very own decorated vintage layer cake. For the novice that I am it was nerve-racking and exhilarating and though the professional will look at my finished product and perhaps have a good laugh, I'm in awe of what I walked away with. I love to bake but really suck at the decorating part and I realize I have a lot to practice but I left Belen's class with a sense of accomplishment. Baby steps. Thanks Belen! read more

Since Michael's no longer has a good variety for in store purchases, I then searched local baking supplies. This place popped up on my search and what an amazing store. This shop literally has everything you'll need to make your bake goods from start to finish. Very well stocked. However, what makes Bean and Butter shine is thier knowledgeable staff and outstanding customer service. Bonus, is they offer edible printing. Usually I've only seen this offered online requiring several days to weeks lead time. Bean and Butter has a 2-3 hour lead time. Just mind blowing! My first cake with edible images and could not have pulled it off without the help and wonderful advice of their staff. Whether you're a home baker or professional that needs some last minute supplies. This is a must visit shop.
