Super excited because the mini fruit tarts are going to look amazing on my newly purchased dessert tray! I was feeling a bit sleepy so I decided to fuel up & eat breakfast while I was there. I ordered a Vanilla Latte & a side order of 3 eggs + Sausage Links. If you're a big eater and want the additional potatoes and pancakes, I recommend paying a few dollars more and ordering the Breakfast platter. The Vanilla Latte came in a paper cup (a bit bummed out by not being able to take a more IG worthy picture of that), but it actually tasted really good! Same with the sausage links - it was probably one of the best tasting ones I've had for breakfast in a while. Aside from their wide selection of pastries and food options, their customer service was phenomenal. Every customer that walked through the door was greeted upon arrival and thanked on their way out. The restaurant was very clean and the cakes looked so beautiful behind the glass case. I had a pleasant experience today at Merengue Bakery & Cafe and can't wait to come back soon to try a slice of their chocolate cake!

However, the lady at the counter informed us they would not have any ready until 2 PM and was quite dismissive and short with us. I was next in line, it was now the second person at the counter helping me, ( male ) once he knew I was looking for a guava cake, he immediately went to the back going out of his way to check and ensure we took a fresh guava cake home right then and there. He saved Mother's Day !!! I must also mention Danny and Lissette are amazing every time we order cakes for family events. It's always a great experience, and we'll definitely keep coming back for their goodies.

Each cake was PERFECT and handled with such care and SOOOOO YUMMY. We did a tasting with Linda about a month before the wedding and selected our flavors. The cake was absolutely delicious, even better on the day of the wedding. Everyone was so impressed with how beautiful the cakes were - guests questioned if they could eat them. Lol. I was sent a menu to select flavors and told we could pick them up in the next 2 hrs. We sampled chocolate-walnut, campfire, strawberry shortcake, peanut butter, brownie, and snickerdoodle cookies to celebrate my niece's bday. Each cookie is hearty, filled with chocolate/nuts/fruit, individually wrapped, and they were still warm fresh from the oven. The bakery is not a store front, but they're baking and decorating goodies on the premise. The baker included a cookie care card with instructions on caring for the cookies...so creative and helpful. All of the cookies were amazingly delicious, fresh, gooey and filling. Our favorite were the strawberry shortcake, snickerdoodle, and campfire cookies. When I first ordered, she had followed-up asking if the cakes were up to par with the taste and if they lasted well. I had to say, not only was it pretty to look at - it didn't taste bad either! Karena is incredibly talented. I can't even begin to talk about my wonderful experience. I showed her a few pictures of inspiration and she told me what she could and couldn't do. Once we agreed on an inspiration picture and idea she put my specifications to work and low and behold, an absolute masterpiece! The detail on each part of the artwork was outstanding. The person I gifted it to was ecstatic. If you take a look at each picture printed and cut out perfectly, the teacup molded to the perfect size, each colored detail intricately placed, absolutely every single thing done with prose and care. Talk about a passion for what she does. You absolutely won't be disappointed. Talk about a date, talk about a time, and she will work it out with you. She communicates incredibly quickly and will be sure to make you happy!

However, once you enter it, you are instantly transported. The decorations, the feeling, the mood, it all screams enjoy to your hearts desire. They have so many variations of cupcakes, cookies, and even brookies. I ordered the cupcakes and brookies and I have to say it is some of the best stuff I've had in my life. Even better, the people here are super patient and helpful. Definitely a gem in the city of Duarte.

The classic, nostalgic look of Fortune Bakery's cakes (the old-school red gelee for lettering, the soft whipped piping all around) absolutely fit the bill and we placed our order about 2 weeks prior to our wedding reception. The timing initially made me nervous, but fear not-they're on top of things and your cake will be ready as promised! The folks at Fortune Bakery were so friendly and accommodating. Joe was totally game to take on my design requests (orange and white roses with vines; Chinese character for double happiness) and even offered to open up the bakery early on Saturday morning so we could pick up the cake and deliver it to our venue nearby in Pasadena (note: you must arrange for your own cake pickup). We ordered a vanilla with strawberry sheet cake for our guests (fed 75 guests with plenty leftover) and a single layer 7"inch vanilla with mango cake for us to display/cut. The cake was as delicious as expected and a huge hit with our guests. I was more than happy to eat leftover cake for breakfast for a week and look forward to celebrating our wedding anniversary with a vanilla mango cake for many years to come. At $3 each, I thought they were reasonably priced, especially for sugar free baked goods. The walnut cookies were just okay for me. I wasn't a fan of the texture and was expecting them to be a little chewier. I liked the raspberry cookies though. It was delicious and I couldn't tell they were sugar free. The customer service was good. I stopped by close to closing time, and the woman helping me was still friendly and pleasant. I'm so glad I found this diabetic friendly bakery.
