    Breakfast burrito and sandwich

The smashed breakfast burrito had lots of texture but almost no seasoning unfortunately. The sandwich was messy but tasted great. Coffee was better than most.

Cute little mountain spot for coffee, ice cream, and good food. The service was exceptional. We ordered two lattes that came out delicious and the breakfast quesadillas are a must try. We stopped by while visiting a nearby town but will definitely be back.

Stopped in on a day trip for ice cream. Cute little spot, really good ice cream. right off the highway so it was easy to get in and out. nice unique selection of ice creams and seemed to be a local favorite. It was a rather small spot. very neat decor and the staff was friendly, accommodating, and did a really great job managing their time and staying busy while still giving great service. Kids both enjoyed their cones, I had some of their adult oriented ice cream. Picky husband was very not impressed but thats ok the rest of us greatly enjoyed it. Would recommend and would return. they did have some vegan options too which was nice for some of the other customers.

    Mountain Italian

Stopped here twice during our cabin stay just north of here. Coffee is just ok but their food and service make up for it. Chocolate chip cookies are worth it. The Mountain Italian was delicious and filling. Would love to come back and try breakfast sometime, their biscuits and gravy look delicious.

Nice concept, very pleasant staff, and an interesting menu. Combines coffee shop, deli, and ice cream parlor in one comfortable place.

I was genuinely impressed by the flavor quality of…read moreHiggles - I've been to several mountain towns, and the local ice cream always tends to be subpar/average with generic flavors. However, Higgles was definitely a step above, and I wish I could have regular access. I prefer Higgles' Honey Lavender to Salt n Straw's Honey Lavender! Their Pistachio flavor was also very good, as it tasted closer to real pistachio than artificial pistachio, which tends to resemble more of an almond flavor. I loved that there were tons of flavors to choose from, and I wished I could've sampled more, but they do have a 2 flavor sample limit per person. Very limited seating/standing room inside - most people just took it outside to eat. If I'm ever back in Breck or passing by, I will definitely stop by!

Their flavors were unique and the ice cream was i incredibly fresh and some unique. My husband's waffle cone was made while we were standing there. Everyone in our party loved what they got- I'm still dreaming of it! The cooler at the front even has dog friendly ice cream (yougurt, banana, pb). Two days later we went back and half the menu had changed (bonus for us)! Everything was still incredible! Hands down the BEST ice cream I've ever had! Don't let the line deter you- there is something for everyone!

And kissed by the fire grill. I would not order the so called char broiled care asada, as the kitchen pre slices the beef, so it doesn't actually get a char grill. It's a sad expression of a charrasco. All cook should have knives to slices a properly cooked steak, one would think. One major frustration is the fact that the open kitchen staff are blasting their own music whilst the Spanish guitar trio is also playing. While perhaps those sitting farther in the restaurant cannot hear the kitchen staff music. Those at the bar fale and the communal table behind the bar are going to be annoyed by having to listen to music by a kitchen staff that should not be having music playing. It is an open concept kitchen! The bartender Tyler did an excellent job of explaining the menu with descriptions and suggestions based upon my tastes. And assisted when items didn't meet expectations though. Monarch and Mariposa are lucky to have him!

This goes into my list of top ten meals of all time! We received a text ten minutes before our…read morereservation time stating that our table was ready so we would have time to walk across the casino. We arrived and the host showed us immediately to a table, but we requested the bar since there were still seats available. The restaurant was romantic and dark, with an open kitchen so you could watch the chefs create their magic. Tyler was our bartender, server, and entertainer that evening, and helped explain the menu to us, which included a tablet with pictures and descriptions of each meal so you wouldn't be left guessing. He also kept us laughing and we ended up staying longer than planned (and ordering a LOT more than we had planned) because we were enjoying his conversation so much. To start us off with drinks, at Tyler's recommendation, I went for the Smoke Signal (I'm a sucker for Mezcal) and loved the balance of alcohol, smoke and sweetness. Our appetizers were the Fry Bread Esquites - pillowy fry bread topped with perfectly seasoned charred corn, cotija and zesty chipotle aioli, and the Pan Seared Shrimp served with blue corn tortillas, guacamole and the most delicious tomato macha. The shrimp aren't completely peeled, so beware there is more than the tails to remove! For the main meal we split the Pork Tomahawk - the most expensive thing on the menu (besides the steak offerings), and it was worth it! The most tender and moist pork I've ever had, with sweet potato purée, grilled mushrooms, fresh broccolini and a sweet honey chipotle sauce. We were too full for dessert (I honestly haven't consumed so much in one sitting, but it was too good to stop!), but we were able to fit in one more drink at the end. I chose the Sweet Venom, recommended by Tyler, which was a sweeter drink with a floater of Tingala which makes your tongue go numb. Tyler offered us a little splash of the Tingala on its own which was a fun experience! It was a pricey meal for sure, but worth more than every cent we spent. Highly recommend the dishes and beverages we got, and if you're lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar when Tyler is working, you're guaranteed to have a great night!

If you're history buff, I encourage you to read about the history of each of the train cars on their website. Though the business has only been around for a few years, one of the cars was built in 1906, and all of them have a unique story to their name. As far as the shop is concerned, it's a standard cafe with coffee, tea, and breakfast food options. With the addition of kava if that's your jam. The best part of this place is checking out the various train cars, all different with various types of seating options. We ordered coffees, sandwiches, and their self-proclaimed "world famous" mini donuts. The sandwiches came out piping hot. I was actually impressed with the bacon egg and cheese. Generous serving of egg, especially. Much better than the bagel spot around the corner! The donuts were good, but you really need to eat them right away while they're hot. Nice addition of the maple bacon, and solid portion to split between a few people. Considering a few places I enjoyed going to in Nederland have changed concepts, I definitely prefer coming to Train Cars Coffee and Kava. Looking forward to trying them again and seeing more of what they offer!
