For a little cafe, they had some great alternatives for my wife who is gluten-free. Our server, Leo, was able to answer our questions and even offered hot water for our bottle that we had for our baby. The warm customer service and his positive energy goes a long way! The food itself was good. However, my son is allergic to dairy. I ordered what looked like it had no dairy according to the menu (avocado toast). They put cheese on it. We told them that my son is allergic to cheese. They remade the item, but unfortunately, they had put cheese on top and instead of making it again they just scraped it off and had a little bit still on there. We gave up and offered something we brought instead for our son. It's a calm place to sit down at but don't bother if your child is allergic to cheese. My experience was horrible, expected a small bite and a drink while we were at the museum today with the kids. The dining area was a disaster, not one clean table in the store, floor was just as bad. All of the trash cans were overflowing to the point that trash was left on tables and the condiment table. We decided to grab some food anyway and go to the park across the street. The cashier was siting on the counter taking our order, acting very arrogant and rude like we were bothering him, name on the receipt was Leo. The food was made by cooks who my wife and I both saw vaping in the kitchen and working without gloves. The presentation when we received the food was horrible, looked thrown together. After tasting the food, I know now I will never return here, the food was cold, not cooked or burned with no flavor. The team is very undertrained and felt like they were caught up in personal matters. Which made our visit very awkward, I didn't want to be there. Located inside the new kids museum downtown, this is a surprisingly good place for a quick bite to eat. Plus , if you're a museum member, you get a 10% discount! My go to is the great turkado sandwich which consists of turkey, avocado,tomatoes, arugula and aioli. It also comes with a side salad that has a yummy dressing. Kiddo typically gets the quesadilla or the grilled cheese. For the grilled cheese, we like to add turkey on it for protein. How they toast the bread, the bread has the perfect amount of crispness yet still being soft. Staff here are so friendly and definitely kid oriented. Dropped by here over the weekend when I visited the museum. It's prime location is perfect for those who didn't bring a meal or had something to eat prior to coming in. Prices are reasonable and the staff are super friendly. There is a patio with a few tables and chairs as well as a dining area inside. I chose the outside. It was beautiful and the breeze was so relaxing. My some enjoyed his pizza and fruit while I enjoyed watching him. With a wide variety of food and drink, you're sure to find something you'll like. Such a tiny place at the museum, but they definitely cater to their clientele with yummy foods with cute names and presentation. My kiddos got the pancakes, which are like quarter sized with choice of dipping sauce. Huge hit. They cater to vegans and peanut allergy folks, and coffee bevvies for adults can come with cow's, oat or soy milk options. It's a bit pricey for what you're getting but when your kid is hungry, what can you do? Super friendly employees and good vibes all around. Seating is available inside and outside as well. read more

Unreliable, can't count on being able to get food here for your little ones - literally any food at lunch. You can't trust them and need to think of other plans if you are going to the museum. We were here on a Saturday. First the line was incredibly slow and the three workers looked to operate on leisure time. We stood behind 20 people (8-10 orders) and it took us over 30 mins to get to the front. This was prime lunch hour at 12:30. We wanted to support the in house cafe rather than bring from external like we saw a lot of others had done (which I now know why). At 1pm they announce that they are only serving drinks and snacks for awhile, without clarity of why or how long that is. We were 3rd order in line at that point. They place a sign that says 'pizza and tots only' along with drinks. That clarified snacks I suppose. Mind you, the concept of this place giving healthy options has been completely thrown into the garbage and a primary reason we opted here rather than outside food in the first place. It was now even more limiting than any unhealthy cafe at any other museum/theater/truck stop. A second announcement is made as we get to the front (8 mins later) which was the same as the prior message. Each time delivered with an attempt to be cute 'I hope we can still be friends' completely tone deaf message from the cashier. I ordered the pizza and tots and she dead eyed looks at me and says 'I just made an announcement, we aren't serving that.' I then point to the sign that says 'only pizza and tots' which she literally put up 8 minutes and two orders earlier and noted the two people in front of us and their orders. She reaches down and takes the sign off and says 'they now only have drinks for order.' There's at least 25 people in line behind me. When asked why this is she says they're 'too busy and the oven is full.' So rather than telling people who order what the wait time is they just turn people away after such a long wait with no indication of when they think they can do the one thing they're there to do, serve food. And it was completely lost that if the oven is full maybe pivot to making sandwiches again. But based on the brain trust here I'm not sure that crossed their minds. I've seen some badly mismanaged places before but this has to be an award contender. The 'aw shucks I'm sawwwry' BS cashier didn't help herself either in trying to manage the situation. She had bad customer service awareness considering the situation. I'm sure she operates great at a crunchy cafe full with low foot traffic and hippy vibes. I left to get food externally and when the security guard asked if I was leaving I mentioned they're no longer serving and I had to get food for the kids. He didn't act surprised and said 'oh they must be busy today' - like this is a common occurrence. Which also shouldn't have been surprising since there was a long wait time to get into the museum itself. It was frustrating that attempting to not give kids basic bad lunch options by coming here turned into frozen pizza is your only option to screw your kids hunger, not our problem at 1pm on a Saturday VERY QUICK. Which was the only thing quick the staff was doing. So don't plan on this place, don't waist your time or risk kids going hungry and killing the museum experience since the kids spent so much time sitting and waiting here that they were ready to go after we finally ate since it killed our mood. read more

Their menu has some good options but this artichoke, feta, olive, and Mozzarella pizza caught my attention. I'm so glad I ordered it because it was so tasty! The crust was doughy and crisp and there were plenty of yummy toppings. It cost about $10 and was filling. Be sure to check them out next time you're in the area. Bean Sprouts is a nice alternative to a typical Museum Cafe. Not only is the food healthy, but the kids meals are particularly good. The cafe has received national awards for having the best kids meal or around. I had lunch here today at the new Children's Museum in downtown San Diego. The museum is a lot of fun, but it can get really crowded, so we decided to head over to bean sprouts before the crowds had gathered. I ordered the all organic salad which came plastic to-go box. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. This includes sliced black olives, red peppers, purple onions, artichoke hearts, and cucumbers. I opted for the balsamic vinaigrette, which was also organic. Prices here are fair considering you're inside of a museum. The food appears to be uniformly good, but I wouldn't call it outstanding. I will eat here again! read more

Overpriced! I was there yesterday, 3 adults and two small children cost $67 for lunch! My pizza was about $16 and it came with pressed chicken. My gf's salad was about the same cost, also with pressed chicken, and it came in the same kind of plastic container as if we'd bought it at Ralph's. The kids meals? What a joke. Maybe 5 veggie tots, aka. tater tots and half a sandwich. Skip it and bring your own lunch. You can eat in the park across the street. read more

I was double charged for a drink because their system was acting up, and I had to tap my card, scan the chip, and then finally swipe the mag strip. According to my credit card app, two charges ended up being authorized. When I asked them to address the issue, and manager did cancel the charge but she was incredibly rude about it. She told me to "enjoy my free drink and be gone" while waving her hands dismissively. I doubt I would have been treated in such a dismissive fashion if I was an older white man. Love taking my grandkids to the museum but the Bean Sprouts Cafe could do better. Ordered the kids grilled cheese sandwich for my 2 yr old granddaughter today- worst grilled cheese I've ever had! The bread was thick-cut, dry whole wheat with rubbery cheese and flavorless. They make thin cut less dense whole wheat bread these days that would be so much better for a child. Threw most of it away. Back to bringing my own food. read more

The pizza is horrible and overpriced. It was basically a thin dough with tomato sauce from a can and the tinniest amount of toppings. For 7.75$ (8 inch), I can get much bigger and better pizza anywhere. Chicken pesto sandwich ($9.95) was as horrible. Chicken had no flavor and was luke warm as it was heated in the microwave. Tomato soup tasted like tomato paste from a can with added water. Salad was bitter. Totally over priced place with small portion and horrible flavor. Not good to feed your kids there as it is not healthy as claimed. Bring your own food. read more
