    Build your own omelette

I was excited to try this place as a first timer. It was during comic con and well we wanted to sit outside to people watch with all the cos play that happens. The hosts could spruce up on her people skills... it's a bummer that we started off a little shaky. BUT as soon as we were seated things started looking up! Our waitress LALA was amazing. Attentive, kind, and speedy. Food was ok! I got the ACAI bowl it was delicious, my husband ordered build your own omelette he said it was ok. The restaurant is decorated sheik and modern. Hubby said like 70's 80's diner. I loved the seats they were purple (my fav color) come and try it out for your selves and hopefully the beginning of your experience is better!

Decided on breakfast before the World of Coffee event at the Convention Center. First time dining here on an early Sunday morning. There was no wait and service was quick, I ordered the Avocado Toast and they let me substitute the fruit for hash browns. Great switch as the hash browns were so crispy and perfect. Avocado toast with arugula and poached eggs was delicious. Great breakfast spot when in downtown.

Stayed at the hotel and had free breakfast included as part of our stay. While it was better than continental breakfasts served at other hotels, the meal was okay but I wouldn't personally have chosen to eat here otherwise. We started off with hazelnut lattes which were the highlight of the meal. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was soft & tasty and waffles were what you typically expect. My husband tried the Two cakes and eggs which came with two eggs, pancakes, bacon, and sausage. He said it was okay but the pancakes were very dry. Service was decent. Place was cute and reminded me of an old diner.

Our server was very polite and friendly. We asked about try popular items on the menu and what she recommended. She said the chicken sandwich from the secret menu was her favorite and recommended to get extra sauce! Which I did..and she was right! Soo good. We also got the emoji pancakes! Kids will love this. Super cute and you can never go wrong with pancakes The Cali Tots were also another dish we tried. I would order an over easy egg on top, next time but it was still good. The Country Benny, was delish. Can never go wrong with gravy and biscuits. The egg was not as runny as I wanted to be but it was still good. A MUST!! The cookie skillet! Warm cookie and icecream..soooo yummy! The dining area was very spacious. A lot of tables and booths to sit in. Very classic! They have an outdoor patio to dine in also to enjoy the SD sunlight. They also have a bar and some TVs around the area. Located in Downtown inside the Hard Rock hotel. Definitely a good spot to go to for brunch or before a Padres game.

This is a cool "diner" with a modern flair and fun vibe. The main entrance is on 5th Avenue, with a second entrance from inside the Hard Rock Hotel. The decor has a rock music theme, which is fun to look at the wall art. On the north side of the diner is a full bar and high top bar seating. The remainder of the seating is tables for two/four people or booths on the south side. You can request sidewalk seating, which is directly beside the archway leading to the Gaslamp District. This is a great place for people-watching and enjoying a good meal or drinks. By the hotel entrance, is a register for quick grab-and-go coffee, tea, muffins, fruit, yogurt, and snacks, etc. One of my favorite meals is Avocado Toast or Eggs Benedict with a crispy hash brown "cake" on the side. Walk-ins are welcome, the staff are welcoming and friendly. Don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary sent ya!

Cute brunch spot in San Diego! We had originally planned to go elsewhere but walked by this cute diner and decided to stop in. The food was tasty and seating was ample. The chicken and waffles were the perfect balance between sweet and savory. The Elvis French Toast was a bit too loaded up on peanut butter which somewhat compromised the overall taste but was otherwise tasty. Would come again!

For such a pretty dish, the chicken and waffles had no flavor at all. Not sure how you can batter chicken and it have no flavor but this had none. The staff were all super nice though!

The service was very good. I was served by a very friendly male waiter who had a great sense of humor. It took quite some time to cook my Tijuana Benedict however so I deduct one star only for the prolonged waiting time. Also, my cappuccino was poorly made - excessive froth. However, the Mexican-style eggs Benedict had good flavor and texture. Plus, the restaurant ambiance was spacious and not loud.

Cup of Chicken Noodle soup. Eh

The first thing I need to cover, the staff was understaffed yet the servers were delightful and they were as friendly as they could be. This is a management issue staffing properly. The ambience acceptable the place is clean It took over 24 minutes to get my cup of soup with me sitting at the lunch counter, not at a table. They have a prioritization problem. They prepare on how the orders came in instead of looking at the orders GET the easy ones out. The cup of chicken noodle soup, frankly was a salt lick, in fact a salt lick would have had less salt. I counted the little pieces of chicken in my Cup of soup, there were exactly 11 pieces and if you look at the photo, you can see the size of those little pieces. and it was more of a broth. It is a shame. I have written very, very few bad reviews. This matter had to be pointed out, especially paying $11+ for that little cup of soup and a soda. Plus this type of food preparation should not be tolerated in the Gas Lamp District which is a gathering place for the tourist who desire the San Diego culinary experience

Wow! Bad service, bad food, expensive for what it is ambiance is nice though! Bad choice, skip it!

Such a cute little diner! Service was excellent during lunch time. I ordered Fish & Chips and they were good but not great. It was a massive serving. I'd like to try their other food to have a well rounded review. Honestly the star of the show was the iced tea - it hit the spot on a hot day. I'll definitely be back when I stay at the Hard Rock since it's so convenient.

Yummy to our tummy. We needed a quick bite to eat and grabbed a Club Sandwich, Fries and Onion rings to share. We swapped out the mayonnaise for garlic aïoli. Boy was that a great swap out. The sandwich had a lot of meat and bacon. No skimping on the meat there. The fries were usual fries, but seasoned to perfection. The onion rings were very crispy and had a great onion flavor on the inside. We did ask for ranch and the ranch was very good. However, the chipotle aïoli was the best. We'd definitely eat at Mary Jane's again, when in San Diego!

Pizza was good, but soggy in the middle. The pasta was good, no complaints there. The sandwich was very lacking in the meat department... It was basically a bread and arugula sandwich. Had very low expectations for the gelato to begin with seeing as the colors were extremely unnatural and the way it was heaped was a clear indication to me that it is not legitimate gelato and unfortunately, I was proven very right. I got the strawberry so that my toddler could have a few few bites and it was so unnatural and weird tasting that she didn't even want any... And if that doesn't say something! My husband got the coffee flavor and he literally took three bites and threw it away as well. I will say, though, on the food front, the prices are reasonable here all things considered, but maybe stick with pasta... based on everything As a whole though, you can likely get a much more legitimate Italian meal somewhere else in the area, but it will probably cost you more.
