Every town should have a place like this. If only we could be so lucky! This is the kind of place where you walk in and say, "if I were to open my own place, it'd be just like this." Old wooden furniture, lots of pillows, stained glass windows, and a choir loft. Like something out of a quirky but cool movie. Talk about convenient! Not only is this place charming but they had drinks I could consume (gluten/dairy free customer here) with options of either coconut or almond milk along with clearly outlined gluten free foods on the menu. A rare gem indeed!!! read more

This is my absolute favorite place to get a coffee and a snack, sit and read a book, and forget about life for a while. It's beyond my ability to properly describe the way walking in the door for the first time made me feel. Beans in the Belfry is the most unique and beautiful place to hang out. Do not come here hungry! I have come many times and It usually takes an hour or so to get our food (2 sandwiches and 3 kids kraft mac & cheese). While the ambiance is great, the service is horrible. No one will guide you in your order and then will roll eyes at you as you are trying to decide. Obviously, they have more important things to do. read more

Saw an ad in the Thursday edition of the local paper (Frederick News Post) stating all beer and wine was $1 off on July 12 during the 3-6 PM Happy Hour. We went to Beans the next afternoon, the 12th. We ordered our drinks and, while waiting for them, my wife stated that the price seemed high. We asked the cashier if she had used the Happy Hour prices and she said no because they have no Happy Hour. We said that we had seen the newspaper ad stating otherwise. She called her manager who confirmed that there were no Happy Hour deals. We were stunned that they said this as: 1. The newspaper ad said that they have Happy Hour special pricing 2. their website says that they have Happy Hour special pricing http://www.beansinthebelfry.com/, UPCOMING EVENTS 3. Their menu says that they have a Happy Hour (on the front cover!!) - but no mention of discounts 4. Multiple flyers posted throughout the restaurant say that they have a Happy Hour - but no mention of discounts For items 3/4, I have never heard of a Happy Hour without Happy Hour deals. We got our money back and walked down the street to Smoketown Brewing where we were treated very well by all of the staff. read more

It really is an old church converted into a coffee and wine and craft beer place to hang out and relax. Great desserts - we didn't try regular food. In town for a wedding and we luckily happened upon this great little place. We had breakfast and espresso here. We shared the cheddar broccoli quiche and a bacon, egg and cheese croissant. Both were delicious and the croissant was flaky and the portions generous and not expensive at all. It's located in an old church and the decor was quirky and charming. Stumbled in here while biking the C&O and had an unbelievable experience. We spent the day biking through sleet and rain and were exhausted by the time we got to Brunswick. Stopped in for some chili and hot cocoa and it was delicious. One of the staff noticed our plight, and because there was no place to stay in town, offered us a ride to Harper's Ferry. INCREDIBLY NICE AND GENUINE PEOPLE. If that gesture isn't enough to win your business, the place was also has an awesome design (old church), great food, and drinks too. read more

I just wanted to say that I gasped and gawked when I first walked in the double doors and and observer said, "First time here?" with a knowing smile. The food (best biscuits and gravy) is so, so, so good. This is a bit of a divergence, but for those who care about such things...my boyfriend luuuurves the bathroom. Cute little cafe my sister in law discovered. We stopped in on the way to Harper's Ferry on Jazz Sunday. It was full but not to full for us to seat ourselves at the big table, there were 8 of us. I had the Bombay pita, which was a curried chicken salad on a pita and was great. I'd eat another right now if I was there. We went here after spending the afternoon at a local adventure center. This place was fantastic. Prices were reasonable, EXTREMELY kid friendly, with some toys for younger kids, dress up items for older kids, Italian sodas, live music on Sundays, and the bread with the sandwiches was absolutely delicious. This place is fantastic. When I moved to the area I had seen people rave about this place. So I checked it out. The sandwiches are good as is their drinks. Now whenever I have friends come down to visit me I usually take them here. They always compliment how the interior looks. My suggestion is make sure you're not in a rush. It can get a little slow. But every time I've been there it's only one or two people who are making the food and taking orders. Either way having a seat inside checking out all the stuff around you is part of the experience. read more

They pastry selection is average -- I had the cheese, peach danish which was excellent. We also came here for Sunday brunch, which was good, but $18 good? Eehhhhh, me thinks not. This place is a sold 4 stars. I really don't think people who give this place five stars have had more than a fleeting experience OR walked in on the perfect day and ordered the perfect thing. Hmm.... does Beans deserve a 4 star or a 5 star review? I can't do a 4.5 so 5 star it is! Here's the deal, people. If you like traditional coffee houses and not the corporate chain fare like Starbucks, this is as authentic as they get. As far as live entertainment goes, they feature primarily bluegrass or folk acts from around the area. (And you may say, "Ehh... that's not really my kind of music." But consider the fact that most small coffee houses only feature one man or woman with a microphone and an acoustic guitar, playing often mediocre versions of pop or rock classics. You might surprise yourself at how much you enjoy one of these bands as a change of pace.) This place makes an excellent hot mocha, and the frozen coffee drinks are top notch too. Don't be afraid to go "off menu" a bit either. They can usually make whatever you want, even if it involves using some flavors only listed as available for a different type of drink. They do have free wi-fi and in a refreshing nod to the "cybercafes" of the past, they even provide computers you can use, upstairs in the belfry, at an hourly rate. The *only* reason I can't give this place a full 5 stars is that I agree with a few of the other reviewers about the hot food selections. The chili is GREAT, but I find myself ordering that time and time again, because I'm just not into most of the other options. Actually, they have a turkey panini that's pretty good too - but the other sandwiches aren't really my thing. On the other hand, they have an above average selection of pastries and desserts (and yes, they do ice cream sundaes too). So maybe I'd give them 5 stars for coffee and dessert, but only 4 as a restaurant? Either way, this is one church worth visiting, no matter what your religious beliefs! read more

First, the food here is fantastic and I've eaten at Beans in the Belfry several times. The most recent visit, I ordered the Tuscan Panini and my girlfriend had the Pangaea Panini both were delicious. I would like to give a better rating but at my most recent visit they had live music and it ruined the whole experience. I couldn't converse with my girlfriend at all over the obnoxious saxophone. I left with a headache and tinnitus. There's a good chance I'll be back when I'm in the area but I'll sit outside no matter the weather if they have live music again. read more

Even though I live 20 minutes away from this place and I've known about it for years, my daughter finally dragged me out of the house to go have a coffee while she used their wi- fi to download something. My first time there.....all I can say is WOW! The old converted church and its stained glass windows, the decor, the music, and the food were to die for! What took me so long to visit this place? It was after 7 pm and there were quite a few people there. The lone barista/ chef had alot of orders but he never missed a beat! Kudos to him! Even though we ordered drinks and desserts , I could smell the sandwiches, soups, and chili that the other clients were having....mmmmmmm. The chai is incredible and the pastries are inexpensive. A great atmosphere. Very worth going to. Would have given it five stars but the bathroom door is made of glass so there's shockingly little privacy. If they put a curtain over that door it would have merited five. read more
