I can't believe it has taken me two years to write this review. I have been to 5 West five or six times and never bothered to sit down and write a review. 1. The Doughnuts are stunning! Way too good to eat, but sadly I ate mine anyway. 2. The coffee is good, they have both wild flavors and of course my p[ersonal preference (drip, black). A historic old building right on the square of New Market. Well, it's the main drag, not really a square. 5 West has a nice, relaxing seating area that has a fireplace (and this time of year, usually a nice, warm fire). I would go again and order a more standard drink. ...and I will likely go again because it is so close to gaver farm (my kids fall favorite). I would NOT get the donuts again. The cafe offers various beverages, pastries, and a limited breakfast/lunch menu (sandwiches and wraps). Very friendly workers and prompt service despite the snow day limiting service. The espresso was weak and watery, I couldn't taste it in my latte at all. The breakfast sandwich was just fine, it came out hot and didn't fall apart, but nothing exceptionally fancy or delicious. It's a good spot to get some work done. When I came in they were playing some preachy Jesus music, and thankfully it got changed at some point, but either way the volume is kept quiet enough to not be disturbing if you have headphones. Stopped here on our way from Baltimore to Pittsburgh and so glad we did. Super cute coffee shop with friendly staff. My husband ordered the French toast iced latte and loved it. I got an iced latte with honey, maple and cinnamon and it was amazing. You can definitely tell the quality of the coffee. We also tried the old fashioned donut and it was decadent. They have a seating area downstairs and a "quiet" area upstairs if you want to just sit in peace while you enjoy your food. First visit it's a cute place, however wish they had more vegan or vegetarian options. The person taking my order was new so understandable lack of knowledge. They are new but there should be more focus on introducing new customers to there store when they say this is your first visit. Wish for more local foods like veggies and farm fresh eggs and milk. Love this coffee shop! I've been here several times and always enjoy their seasonal coffees which are always very creative. During the holiday season they had a pistachio bread pudding latte and it was to die for. I came two days in a row for this delicious coffee!! I would never think of that combination but it was excellent!!! They offer a few breakfast items and have several pastry items. My husband always gets the apple fritter and it's amazing. I have had a potato and sausage quiche which was delicious as well. Great little coffee shop in downtown New Market. Possibly the best latte I have had in my life. The iced latte with whole milk here is made with well roasted, well brewed espresso and equally importantly extremely high quality milk. It's nutty and sweet and smooth and we had to get two because it was just so delicious. The patio in the back is inexplicably a good 20 degrees cooler than the anywhere else and smells and feels perfect. This cafe is so nice to be at that we spent 30 minutes wondering if it was worth getting up to go do something else. read more

I frequent this cafe quite often. As with many other businesses, after going remote in 2020, we never went back in the office. As a result, I've used different local coffee shops for meetings and this is one of my favorite establishments to visit. The staff are always pleasant and the ambiance is very cozy. I enjoy coffee shops and cafes for the experience more than anything else, apart from good coffee of course. First experience this morning - very clean and light atmosphere. Service was very quick (waited less than 3 minutes from entry to exit, including customers in front of me). Staff was attentive and very polite. They had some music playing, but I couldn't hear it very well. I also don't recall any specific smells, like cinnamon or distinct coffee aromas you may have at cozy little coffee shops like this one; likely because they're newly renovated and opened. Hopefully over time the coffee aromas will settle in and you'll feel immersed in the environment. I always order a regular latte everywhere I go, and this one was one of the better ones. It seems they may actually understand the chemistry between coffee beans, storing the beans, and moisture. There was zero bitterness on the back end that you have with either pre-ground beans or improperly stored beans. The latte was smooth and flavorful. I also like my lattes very hot, and it was. Two thumbs up. I also ordered a chocolate muffin because, well who doesn't love cake for breakfast?? They warmed it for me as well. Unfortunately, the muffin was a bit too crumbly/dry for my preference, but the flavor was good. Having said that, as long as I followed a bite with my latte it was fine. I'll probably try a cinnamon roll next time. Overall, 4/5 stars The potential is there for 5/5. I'll continue to visit and provide updates. In the interim, encourage you to stop by and get the experience for yourself. P.s. This isn't something the cafe can control, but heads up if you're parking on the street. There's a lot of traffic in the morning, and there's no cross walk in front of the cafe. It's not the safest experience, particularly if you have kids with you. If you walk toward the fire department, there is a crosswalk along the way. Be safe out there! read more

For coffee I ordered a Cortado (basically a latte but stronger) and it tasted great, with some beautiful latte art too!
