I have an annual bonfire event every year and our normal park was closed. We chose Moss Park as our…read morelocation for this year. I grew up nearby and used to come here every other weekend. It's always been, and still is, a lovely and peaceful park. Full of exploration, adventure, joy, with so many opportunities for so many types of events, get together, celebrations, etc. We reserved a multi-family sight and with support from the park staff we were able to use the group camp site that had a nice big bone fire ring, which is where we had our celebration. It's was just isolated enough from the rest of the park we were able to listen to music, talk, and go adventuring around a little bit. We're definitely coming back next year! This is the PERFECT park for a campfire, bone fire, lake swimming, and overnight camping.

Airport Lakes Park was developed with the help of a Florida Communities Trust grant. The proximity of the park to the Orlando Airport means you will see a lot of planes flying overhead. The Orlando Airport was once a part of Pinecastle Air Force Base during WWII so I imagine this park was too. This park is a welcome recreational amenity for both locals and the travelers passing through the area. Airport Lake Park exceeded what I was expecting. Near the parking area are restrooms and a playground. The real gem of the park is the back area where there is a nature trail and disc golf course that was being used by several groups of people during my visit. Unfortunately the nature boardwalk that takes you out to Lake Warren was closed due to storm damage. This would have been a really nice feature so I hope they plan to repair it. The park also has a lighted athletic field and soccer field and picnic pavilions with grills. I had a pleasant walk around the nature area. There are several hotels nearby so this would be a great spot to get exercise or take the kids to play. The disc golf course is already very popular with locals.

There are trails through the park, some paved and others dirt paths. The boardwalk out to view the lake was unfortunately closed due to storm damage. That was a disappointment. Lots of parking is available. Bathrooms are available here as well. I didn't need to use them so no idea how well they are cleaned or maintained. A nice park near some of the Orlando airport hotels.

It underwent a major renovation in 2021 where they added lots of amenities and made everything brand new. Even now, 5 years later, everything has been so well maintained and still feels like new. They have a free miniature golf putting course, an awesome splash pad, shaded playgrounds, basketball courts, and a nice nature walking path. You'll also find shaded picnic pavilions and a community garden. My son absolutely loves coming here. The parking lot can be a little tricky to find because my GPS using Google Maps never takes me to the right place. Don't let the location detour you from visiting. It's such a nice park and feels very safe.

The neighborhood and the park is named after one of the earliest property owner's daughter's favorite novel, Lorna Doone, written by English author, Richard Doddridge Blackmore, published in 1869. Lake Lorna Doone was the site of the South's first integrated Little League Baseball game on August 9, 1955. The 1955 little league season was the first after US Supreme Court rulings had eliminated "separate but equal" conditions in the nation's schools and public parks. The Pensacola Jaycees were declared winners of their local district by Little League headquarters in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. When local officials would not allow them to play against the all-white teams they instead advanced to the Florida State Tournament which was held at Lake Lorna Doone Park. They ended up losing to host Orlando in the second round, 5-0 but they were welcomed by the hometown crowd and given encouragement. In 2021, 12 acre Lake Lorna Doone Park underwent an $8 million renovation. Added to the park was the nine hole Arnold Palmer Putting Experience, fitness stations, a playground, football fields, basketball courts, a splash pad and the Winnie Palmer Nature Trail. I especially liked the nature trail where I got to see native plants and wildlife. With the upgrades, this park now has all of the amenities needed to inspire a healthy, active lifestyle for the West Lakes families who live in this neighborhood and all who visit.

The dock provided excellent sightings of turtles, small fish, water fowl, and vegetation on the bottom of Clear Lake. Picnic Tables with Covered Pavilions equiped with Charcoal Grills spaced far apart to provide some privacy for gatherings. Upgraded Playground for Younger People & Families located directly near Parking Lot. Extensive Old Growth Oaks, Covered in Spanish Moss, Providing Extensive Shading, to Nearly All Areas in the park with Seating spaced throughout & a Playground. No Restrooms but Several Water Fountains. Across the Street from a Public School & other Local Government Facilities. Located a Very Short Distance from John Young Parkway & Interstate 4. Working Class, Old Orlando, Urban Neighborhood. Welcoming and located on the Clearest Lake in Orlando. Large Parking Area. Plenty of Field Space for Some Athletic Purposes. It is primarily an open piece of land with paved sidewalks circling it with a few stops for what they call the VitaCourse 2000, which seems to be a series of stations for various exercises. There is a decent playground for kids. The highlight of this park, as the name would imply, is the lake. A pleasant enough view. It seems the neighborhood enjoys this park, people were walking the paved path, a gentleman was on the dock, I even saw an industrious older man with a pail and a metal detector, looking for his pot of gold or some other form of riches. As stated, this is not a place I would recommend to "get back to nature," however for a neighborhood park, it admirably serves its purpose.

We need parks like this within our communities, a place where we can gather with our neighbors in respite and relaxation. This park is a positive part of this neighborhood and the community as a whole. This park is more of a neighborhood park and could never be considered a destination type park like Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, but we need these neighborhood parks just as much as we need those more impressive destination type parks. I would definitely recommend this particular park if you are in the neighborhood. All in all, it is a pretty cool place and a nice enough place to chill for a bit.

We had some time to kill in the morning though, so instead of hitting the gym we decided to hoop it up a bit. after striking out at a few other parks we found on line, we drove to this spot. It's a classic neighborhood style park. There is a good size kids play area with a jungle-gym, swings and stuff. There was also a set of 2 basketball courts, which was our goal. They were nice courts. The nets were fairly new and there court itself was in good shape. The 4 half-courts were fenced in. That proved to be handy as our shots weren't all going in on this day. The nets were actually so new that the basketballs were getting stuck but can't complain about too new of nets. We didn't stay too long, but I did appreciate what a nice little park it was.

It was built in 2014 as a community project with funds coming from Nathan's Famous The playground has many activities that inspires hours of outdoor play. They have slides, climbing areas, seesaw, swings, spinners and more. They have a few signs that give you suggested challenges that are fun to participate in. The ground did have some active red ants and there is a sign that warns you to lock your vehicles.
