Although it's "Bear Hair" By Chuck, you need not be a bear to get a wonderful cut, style, color, etc. Besides being courteous, warm and friendly, Chuck really listens to what you want and if you are not sure of what you want, he always is ready with great suggestions. I have very wavy to curly hair, and lots of it. Usually stylists tell me "you have a lot of hair" in more of a complaint form than a compliment. Not Chuck, he works wonders with my curls and helps me manage my mane and love it. If you have unruly curly hair, you understand how it sometimes can be a struggle, but not when Chuck is in the case. He makes sure to help me keep my curls in check and actually love my hair, curls and all! In the past, I had wanted to go a bold red and previous stylists had not quite given me what I wanted. Chuck, on the other hand, made it happen. He also knows that when I want my hair cut short, I mean it. Where as others always cut very little no matter how much I beg that it be shorter. There is not enough good things I can say about Chuck. I love knowing that I am in good hands and that my requests will actually be listened to. Oh, and price-wise.... a total steal! A few years of driving by this small, unassuming, and conveniently located shop, compiled with the need for a new beard artist prompted me to pick up the phone and schedule an appointment with, Chuck. A few days later I was walking through the front door and ready to see what this man's trusty hands had in store for me. First of all, Chuck is a genuinely nice dude. What you see is what you get and there is no over-the-top persona attached to either Chuck or his business. He's here to cut hair and I'm here to be cut. Enter my beard... After making my way to a few different places in the neighborhood I knew Bear Hair was different. For starters, Chuck don't f#ck with clippers when attacking facial hair. Hell, you can do that s#it at home if you want to. It's all scissors and a comb for Chuck, which allows him to shape according to the contours, dents, uneven surfaces, and imperfections of the face. I know what you're thinking, "Brad, your face is perfect!" and I'll politely say "thank you" with a massive amount of internal disagreement. Sarcasm detected? I certainly hope so (my face is a crooked mess). Why is this cool and/or important? Well, I always wondered why I had a strange uneven spot on my chin after almost every "professional" beard trim. The reason: I've got a whacky chin, not easily fixed by a universal clipper guard, but tamed and controlled with experienced hands manning the sheers. It's like an artist sculpting each and every hair rather than a hack with a lawn mower completing a few thorough passes and hoping the hair ends up even at the end. More often than not, it doesn't. A pretty long review for a short beard trim, I know, but this guy is good. Oh, and his pricing was spot on with a $15.00 price point and I'm happy to end up in the regular rotation with Chuck now that he's shown me what a good beard trim can be! read more

Finally a man who gives men's haircuts correctly! We (partner and I) had been best friends with our previous stylest until his untimely demise in 2009. After 20 years of getting our hair cut by our friend it was a daunting task to find someone who knows how to cut your hair just like you like it. We tried several, obviously...over the years. I am a 3-4 week cut kinda guy. Some were ok, but overpriced. Most were TOTAL flakes, but overpriced. I actually had won a free haircut from Chuck as part of a gift bag at a fundraiser. I needed a cut and thought, well...here it goes...like plastic surgery, or laser eye surgery you usually don't want to buy it on sale or get a free trial sample. But I did it anyway. Good 1st cut...now...it was the first time and not "20 years perfect" for me, but still a very good cut...easily equal to all my other walk ins and referrals around town (my ongoing expectations are to walk in and get the same cut I was getting from a best friend with 20 years practice chopping my top...a big shoe that needed filling). Now we have gone back to Chuck at least 6 to 8x? Maybe more...by cut #2-3 it was growing out just right, looked great and fresh when first cut...and has been consistanly great since (for both of us). I have a lot of conventions, etc. so he is always very accommodating and can find time to get us both in. I am very happy to have found him (so his donating cuts to charity is just another good quality to his good nature). Friends find the "bear hair" name funny, and granted after my lap band later this year I will have to go to Otter Cuts or Pup Cuts...until then I guess I will be hanging with da' Bears. We have seen some of his other clients and none of them were bears. Go figure! Thanks Chuck...you better stick around cause I am not going back out looking again for someone that knows what they are doing and does it right!! (Another problem with having your best friend cutting your hair for 20 years is he explained everything about the different cuts he did so I know whats right and not so right...Chucks got it right). read more
