**This haircut is over a year old, but the only way out was cutting it chin length and starting over. I still look like a muppet so here we are** This was truly one of the most traumatic hair experiences of my life, and I have dyed my hair box- black. I came in for haircut for curtain bangs and long layers. My hair was damaged so I understand it may not have been an easy task, but there is no rhyme or reason to what I walked out with- Right. Before. My. Wedding. Other than my god awful bridal updo, the true disappointment was the response from the salon. I called multiple times without any response so I finally went in, and was blown off again. Beyond not offering to fix what they could, they didn't even acknowledge that this was just a bad cut, which would have gone a long way. Carol rescued me. My mother's nurse at Sharp had gorgeous hair, and I asked her for her hairdresser. Carol got me in! Yay! She shuffled me between four other people - I sat and sat. The small chat we had made seemed to be forgotten between other clients. I thought I was lucky to get in. She had asked me what I'd been doing. On our initial call I had mentioned that my mother had passed, and I had totally forgotten about my hair for the last three months, as she's been very sick before her death. So, she asked me what I'd been up to, anything fun? Well, I just got done telling her on the phone I'd been totally consumed with the estate. I told her no, my mother died and I was totally consumed with the estate. She asked me how my mother died, I told her I didn't want to talk about it. About that time she was getting done with the color and sent me to wait on this tiny bench seat that Dias have a back, but if you lean back you get dye on the whole wall. When she squeezed three people in, and had someone waiting on dye, she rinsed me out and then took the other woman back after rinsing her hair and finished styling it. I waited a long time, though she squeezed me in, I thought. So when she brought me back she asked the same questions and asked again how my mother does. I was really annoyed, but after my hair was perfect, I had no real quips. Though I had never ever been juggled like that. I had no reason it would happen again. I made an appointment, a real appointment next time. Just to get my roots touched up. I sat with dye in my hair, she took three other people. I was there two hours. When she took out my dye - it had been in my hair for way too long and my whole head felt like I wanted to itch my scalp off. I got little satisfaction from washing it out. You're supposed to wash red with cold water or it bleeds out fifty percent with hot water right down the water. I didn't mention this. Anyway, I pointed out how uncomfortable the chair is that I was parked in. I had come in both times with a Cain - and let get know it was painful for me to sit in a chair for too long, because I am scheduled to have my knee replaced, and the other is just as damaged. So, of course, I was there sitting as long as possible. After I told her that time how painful it was sitting in that chair. She sat in the chair herself and said she had bought it herself and it was very comfortable... She's something like 5'1 and she looked comfortable, it was made for a short person. She said you could have sat over there and pointed to the front, there were two people already in it. She said I could have sat in the sink area, but there were other salon workers there. One of the people that got dye was sitting in it. But there are something like three rinse chairs. While she was working on my hair, she got a call from a friend, nothing urgent, but she was animated so she was talking for 10 minutes and she pulled up some of my hair in the back, she was avoiding the hair dryer? She wouldn't be able to talk on the phone. I thought she was looking at the color or something. Then she started clipping, I screamed, she had asked me when I came in what I needed done - just a few hours before -- touch up only! She stopped talking and hung up. For the touch up, she had put a brassy burgundy, a thick stipe right through my part and then other places. It wasn't blended at all. She had to then even out my hair, which she clipped too short the time before. She dried it, I was angry! My beautiful blended hair color she had done last time - doesn't match my color at all. She told me I could come back in a few days and she'd put some blonde in - that's what she was supposed to do. She said she wouldn't charge me then, but I couldn't come back and have it done for free later. I mention - again - it took me an hour to get there and I wasn't about to spend two hours on the road to get the job finished she didn't get done. She juggles you like a clown at a circus. She forget what it is you came there for. And she's just thoughtless. She got it really right the first time, then it was like she wasn't even a hairdresser. If you hit the timing right, you'll have great hair. Time to play roulette? Perhaps, bring your own lawn chair you're comfortable in, because you're going to wait, and possibly wait and wait. Here's my hair a few days after. I had hair dye 2.5 inches from my hairline. I told her I was going somewhere afterward. I had sent her the photos. She scrubbed my face with a towel trying to get the color off. Nothing came off it was just red all over my face. I was really upset. I sent her this photo and need to unblock the phone to get that photo back. :/ read more

Had a great experience here on Saturday for two last minute blow outs. I called on Wednesday for an apt and she called me back within 15 minutes to tell me she could do it. She called Sat am 30 minutes before our apt to tell me one stylist would be 15 minutes late. We arrived and were a little confused where to go but our stylists found us. We were both done in under an hour. My friend was super happy with her blowout. I opted to pay an extra $10 for curls and was so happy with the result. Best hair appointment yet! I saw Jessica for base color, and balayage highlights. After the pandemic there was color correction needed from box dye. She had a conversation with me firstly to go over what I wanted and the realistic expectation she had of what could be accomplished. She took the time to understand what I wanted. She told me that after all the dark color on My hair she would get the highlights as light as the hair would lighten. Realistically it might take several sessions. My hair lightened quickly and she got the most beautiful color on those highlights because she understood the tone I wanted them to be. My hair came out exactly if not better than what I wanted. Not only that but the cut she gave me was so pretty! She is honestly the best, and can't wait to add more highlights with her later this summer. read more

I made an appointment to get my hair done for an event. I was scheduled for a shampoo/blow out at the mission center location. I get there and wait 10 minutes to find out the person I was booked with was not available and there was a miscommunication. The manager was kind in telling me there was a miscommunication and asked me to go to their other location which was a few minutes away because they had an opening. However by the time I got there there was not enough time for a wash and blow out. My hair was dirty because I was counting on getting a blow out done. The stylist ended up dry styling my hair while I'd was dirty and i guess it turned out ok. She didn't part my hair or Volumize it. She just curled it with an iron the way it was. The girls were nice which is why this isn't a 1 star but the whole situation was pretty unprofessional. Imagine if I booked this for my wedding. I would be left without my hair done! They didn't offer any compensation for the time I lost and the fact that I wasn't able to complete the service I wanted. If someone is booking for a special occasion that night, things need to be handled differently. I will not be returning. This was really stressful for me and I was almost late for my event. There needs to be a better scheduling system and communication. I will share the final product of my hair though. Wasn't bad! Just be extra careful and double check with them if you end up booking. read more

We scheduled two blowouts back to back at Pure. When we arrived, we were told there was no record of our appointments and waited 25 minutes for Enrique to arrive for our appointments. Mind you, we received confirmation of these appointments TWICE. Although friendly, Enrique was sloppy and slow. He was EXTREMELY rough with our hair, and used dirty brushes he used not only ON HIMSELF and other clients (we could see other hair in the bristles) but dropped products on the floor and then put them in our hair. To make matters worse, he burnt my friends face with a curling iron, didn't acknowledge it after she made a comment expressing she was in pain, and offered no help. I recently got my hair done here and it was great (at first) because they were able to take me last minute and right away. I was extremely happy with the experience up until check out.. she was nice, did a good job and it was quick for getting my hair dyed (1.5 hour). Before the appointment we had done a quick consultation and was told it would be $160 for the full ombre. When I went to check out, it was $200! The front desk woman said that the stylist had actually done balayage on my hair and not the ombre. Um, ok... shouldn't that have been clarified with me before she started? We have two big events coming up, my siblings are both getting married this year, one in about a week! So this hair appt was kind of a big deal! Long story short, this post isn't to make a jab at the "senior" stylist who did a box dye job on her hair and talked her ear off! This review is for Maria, the salon manager. In my 15 year's of working in high end salons myself, I have never witnessed such ill professionalism and straight up rudeness in my life! Side note, I've been cutting and coloring my Moms hair for year's, but since it was her birthday and my sister's wedding is in a week we wanted to do something special for her! As soon as she walked in I noticed right away that her hair was nothing like what we had discussed, it looked like a horrible box dye job! So the next day I call to address my concerns and to see if the man who did her hair could possibly fix it! Now in a real high end classy salon they would have done whatever it took to remedy the problem and make your client feel and look beautiful and be happy with their service. Well nope not this lady. She started by saying, "well when your mom left she acted like she liked it" yeah not wanting to be mean and rude! Then when I told her I too was a stylist, she proceeded to say all sassy " well then why didn't you just do her hair!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing, so unprofessional!!!! Reluctantly we made a appt for that following Wed for them to fix it. Ten min later I get a call back saying she talked to the "owner" who was vacationing in Cabo supposedly, and they said to just give us our money back because she wouldn't be happy with it anyways!!! What!!!! My mind was blown! She said that I could drive down to mission valley and come pick up my money! I was done dealing with this lady! If it wasn't for the super sweet girl that worked the front desk at their other location, I don't think I would have gotten my money back as fast as I did through Venmo if it wasn't for her! 2 out 4 good experiences here. Every time I had a DIFFERENT hair stylist. My hair looked good 3 times, but the manner in which it was done was sometimes questionable. Things I didn't like about Pure: 1. They have independent contractors who are not upfront about their status as renters and their 'independent prices'. 2. Sometimes conversation is not the number one need to build a loyal client base. Efficiency and quality builds my loyalty. 3. If I am going to pay you $75 an hour, expose my hair to new expensive products and don't complain about how long my hair will take to dry. 4. Most of the people working there are not personable or apologetic when something goes wrong. I just want to pay my normal $50 to someone relatable, humble, and sweet who doesn't have any skeletons in their closet! read more

So, I have been going to Pure for facials for many years, however, because I almost never get spa services, that means I've been there a total of 5-6 times. I have, however, been there twice so far this year. I have been seeing the same esthetician, and I think she does a great job and really takes her time with my skin. My last review (from several years ago) was a 5-star review. Unfortunately, I have to take a star away. The last two times, I learned that you cannot tip on your credit card. I think that is super tacky for a high end salon. That is more like a cheap nail salons. Perhaps it was always that way, but I don't seem to remember that from a while ago. To me, that is the way to tell your customers and employees that they are not worth the convenience charge...and because I was surprised, I was digging through my purse for wadded up bills to try to provide a meager tip. The last time I was there, I told the esthetician that I wanted to focus on the dark circles under my eyes. Somehow, she started talking about consulting with a plastic surgeon. I was definitely taken aback. I told her so, so she recommended eye cream instead. I was again taken aback when she slipped it to the cashier and told her to ring it up without asking me or telling me the cost. I found that it was $54, so I didn't purchase it. I still do give 4 stars because I really do feel that the service is good and feel taken care of when I leave. When I do return, I will just tell them I do not want any of their products. When I arrived to get my highlights done, he was rough with my hair after I told him I was losing hair from weight loss. The balayage he recommended was so horrible. I found out the hard way that he doesn't know what I was looking for. He did my highlights toward the front of my head while the rest of my hair didn't have any highlights. Also, he coughed into his hands and touched my hair. I had to wash my hair when I got home. He burned my ears a little with his hair dyer. It's really, really clean and the interior seems to have just gotten a facelift. I recently got a sugar scrub pedicure and it was lovely. I had the best experience at Pure! I originally booked a location nearby for my wedding hair & makeup and I did not have a good experience with their trial hair/makeup. I am from out of town and had a destination wedding in SD. I drove across the street to Pure literally in tears after my trial hair (that made me look like Snookie). I was impressed with their friendly front desk staff and booked hair/makeup for my bridal party, but was not able to have a trial for my bridal hair/makeup. The day of the event came and I had 4 bridesmaids hair/makeup as well as myself. Shannon did mine and my MOH hair and she did a wonderful job with both of us. I cannot remember the makeup artist, but everyone looked amazing. I did not have a Pinterest board or any updo preferences, so I told them all to use their professional judgments to make us look great and they did not disappoint. The staff had the 5 of us in and out in 2 hours and we all looked FANTASTIC. They even took my 14 & 17 year old nieces and made their hair and makeup age appropriate but absolutely stunning. Went to another salon where the stylist destroyed my hair with bleach. I had 3 different colors of blonde plus brassy, a haircut that looked like I went through a shredder and a lot of breakage. Thankfully I went to Lucia who not only fixed the color and evened out the straggly ends and breakage, but she also did a hair mask to help my fried hair. I went to this salon for the first time today. I have spa finder gift cards and unfortunately, not a lot of places accept them. So I call to book an appointment for a mani/pedi. Front desk girl says they can get me in today, in about 45 minutes. Cool. I forgot to mention on the phone that I wanted acrylics. My bad. When I get there I ask and she tells me, "we don't do acrylics here." Ok no biggie. I'll just take the mani/pedi. I go sit down and I'm checking out their website again, mostly just for kicks, and it says on the website that they DO offer acrylics. So I ask again. This time she says, "we only have one girl who does acrylics and she only works Saturdays. Do you still want the manicure?" I tell her yes (this is the 3rd time we've talked manicures). Go back to the room with the girl (no idea what her name was), am offered coffee/water/wine.. all cool. This girl is ROUGH. Using her own natural fingernails to avoid getting nail polish on my skin is cool, but not if you have razor sharp nails. We get to chatting and about halfway through she says, "I'm actually a hairdresser." Umm, ok... so why are you doing my pedicure then?? I bring up the acrylic thing to her again, just making small talk, and she reiterates the 'Saturday only' thing, and asks if I want to call another salon across the way because they do acrylic. I tell her no, the regular manicure will be fine. End of my pedicure comes and she says, "ok, I'll walk you out!" No manicure? It's been brought up FOUR times now? WTF. I don't mention it to her, she's already told me she's got another appointment right after me (I know this because I mention to her that the front desk lady had warned me she might not have time for a shellac manicure). I bring this up to the front desk girl AGAIN and she says, "her next appointment isn't for a half hour. Do you still want the manicure?" I'm pretty ticked at this point so I said no. Paid for my pedicure and left. What gives? Did I not make it perfectly clear that I want a manicure today? read more

An absolutely amazing experience in a clean and enjoyable establishment. I booked a facial with Mary Ann and, being my first one, wasn't sure what to expect. She quickly created a calming and relaxing environment, letting me slip into a state of tranquility and enjoy the entire experience.
