Not only did Jax get me to platinum, but she took her time and explained the process, cost and maintenance. It took 6 hours, and the process was painless (usually I'll get blisters on my scalp but no blisters!). My hair feels great after the process and the brass is completely gone, and the color is gorgeous. I would highly recommend Jax. She does quality work. I used to visit Leilani at Salon Ink and bounced around with different hairstylists until I realized there is no match for her! I have wavy hair that half of the stylists didn't really understand how to cut. If they did, it was a quiet and somber hour at the salon. One visit back with Leilani and I'm feelin' my hair and had some fun while it was getting cut. The salon itself is impeccably clean and the shampoo room is super cute and calming. I love that they also provide a nice little head scratch and massage while you're getting cleaned up. Parking, as always in the University Heights area, is a bit tough but you can find some street parking if you're patient enough. I work in La Jolla and live in Mira Mesa but I will, no doubt, make this drive every time to get my haircut by Leilani. Totally worth it! read more

Not sure if this salon usually takes walk-ins but John Hewick happened to be available when I walked in. His rates for a haircut are about 20-25% higher than what reputable salons in downtown charge but he was nice enough to give a first time client discount after id asked. John did a super job working with me to give me the cut I wanted. My hair was long and flat and i wanted layers, volume and bangs. He asked a lot of good questions, gave suggestions and was an extremely good listener. A+++ for effort. Really pleasant guy. I ended up being happy with the cut and gave him a 20% tip based on the original rate, I just didnt like the curls he gave me. Rob is the man! I've been hitting up a ton of different spots over the years and it's been rather difficult to find someone who can do a great job on my hair consistently (always a hit or miss each time). But Rob gets down each time! He pays close attention to what you need done and your hair will be looking fresh once you step out of there. I've gotten numerous compliments from complete strangers, even 2 weeks after when my hair starts to grow out like crazy! Expect at least a good hour or so for your haircut to be finished from the moment you walk in. Just park around the sides streets so you won't have to worry about the time limit on those damn meters on Park (who carries around coins these days anyways). This is my first time at the salon, I had Leslie as my hairstylist. I told her that I wanted long layers bc short layers give me stringy ends. She went ahead to wash and cut my hair. When she was done, it felt short, to me at least. After she straightened it, it still felt short. She added some shorter layers to give me shape which I definitely did not appreciate. However overall her haircut was even and the layers, (if it were what I wanted) looks good. I was going for more bulk at the bottom, to grow my hair all the same strength. So overall her cut was not bad but it was a lot shorter than I said I wanted. I am definitely impressed with her after the cut. Before finding her, I had bounced around salons trying to find someone. Some place. Finding a hair stylist is like being in a relationship where you only see each other once every 3 months. She's easy to talk to and makes you feel at home. Previous attempts at finding a hair stylist left me mute and uncomfortable. On the contrary with Leilani. She always exceeds my expectations in what I even think I want in the first place. Quite the hair wizard. Witch? Whatever. The bottom line is that she is amazing. She had always cut and styled my hair until recently when she did a colorful blend of blues and purple. D I V I N E. Wherever she goes, I go. The salon itself is also great! It's just small enough where you don't feel like you're cattle in an assembly line for gorgeous hair. About four years ago I got my first tattoo done here when it was Vivid Tattoo. Moving to the present, my favorite stylist just transferred to this salon and oddly enough her booth is about the same location as I had gotten inked up at. This location now yields no more concerned lectures from my folks about the message I am sending to others but now an opportunity to transform myself in a more traditional way going from scraggly Justin Beiber hair to polished, chic, and very Audrey Hepburn. I go see Robyn here who is the life to any salon I have followed her to. The atmosphere of Park Salon straddles the line between chic but not pretentious. Upon coming into the salon you are dressed in a black fancy robe and offered a wide variety of delicious beverages to enjoy. They even have a special shampoo room that is private from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the salon where you can really let your hair down, in the sink of course. It's soothing and comfortable, definitely a treat. The salon pumps out great tunes, today it was Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater, etc. I am sure the tunes change based on the day but I was digging it. Park Salon, you're my new spot. My lifetime, all-time favorite stylist/colorist is Robyn Oakes. Her hair care skills are magical. I moved to San Diego in 2006 and it took me 6 long, horrible hair years to finally find the right professional (Robyn Oakes) to do my hair in 2012. Robyn has all the goods - the right mix of hair coloring & cutting skills, plus she has an amazing, welcoming personality with a great sense of humor. She is cautious in making sure what you want is the right style for your face and your hair type; additionally, Robyn always offers to ease you into a new color or cut to make sure you are pleased with the change. I get lots of compliments on all aspects of my hair and am regularly asked who does my hair. I highly recommend Robyn Oakes for both men and women - she totally aims to please you - for real. In fact, many of my friends see her now and we all followed her to The Park Salon which I will add is really a nice experience. The salon is sparkling clean, great vibe, cool music and really nice people. My 2 favorite parts are: 1) the shampoo room which is secluded from the rest of the salon with this relaxing spa like ambience, and 2) the yummy beverages you are offered.
