We stayed one Friday night in May and had a room on the third floor. The people above us apparently we're partying and with the rice-paper walls, we couldn't get to sleep until 3:00 am. We complained to the front desk and security - which did no good. At 7 am I went for Starbucks, and I should have stayed in our room as there was no coffee available except for expresso. The sign said open at 6 am - forgot to mention no coffee! Saturday morning we went to have breakfast but were told we'd half to wait 30 minutes before being seated...and only 1/2 of the entire restaurant was full (probably low on help) so we left and ate elsewhere. The casino looked ok and the majority of it was non-smoking. They did have a smaller section for smoking. The casino looked nice from the inside and out - so did their gas station. Had dinner, went with the Big Rib Eye.. Cooked to perfection. Also had the Fried Cauliflower which was excellent as well. The Food speaks for itself, but the Service was above and beyond. Smokee was my server and this guy is going somewhere . He was by far the best server I have ever had. Super Attentive, very polite, and was an all around great guy. I was starting to get excited to go back to restaurant within this last year... The food was definitely being elevated but after my visit last night everything seems to be going back down hill. This place treats their white guests like shit!! My girlfriend and I experienced extreme prejudice and in fact located to a new hotel..and are currently seeking a refund!! Our hotel experience was beyond prejudice like we've very ever received.. accused of taking pictures of a blackjack dealer and drinking on the property..they told us to confine ourselves to our rooms at 9pm and if nit they would issue a full refund and we could just leave..only no refund to be had..because we are white!!! read more

This review is only for the casino. I did not visit the hotel so can't speak to that. We stopped by this casino on the way back from visiting the redwoods to try our luck. It is not a huge casino but I was pleased to find new and current slots and everything was very clean and in good order. My husband said we could only stay half an hour before getting back on the road in which time I was able to hit quite a few bonuses in a short amount of time at the penny slots and walked away with about $700. The new marketing director really knows what she's doing! They have bingo now!! I see a lot more jackpots being paid and the upgrades they are making to the building is making it a player friendly place for sure. There are things we enjoyed here but more things we didn't. We live locally but decided to take a little weekend getaway to Bear River. We wanted a jacuzzi room where we could relax together. We were told the Executive suites had those. Unfortunately it was a small whirlpool tub for 1 person, so let down #1. The room was large and tastefully decorated. Separate living room and bedroom, wet bar, fridge microwave, very comfortable and the view was incredible. Win #1. So, we started getting comfortable, had a $1 drink for happy hour in the bar. The bartender was surly and not prepared. We sat and spent an uncomfortable 30 minutes at the bar before going elsewhere for dinner. Letdown #2. When we came back to the room, we wanted to watch a little tv and unwind. The TV is set up for only local channels or Pay movies, the movies were $20. Every hotel that we have stayed at in the last 3 years allows logging in and streaming to Netflix or other channels. Although I was willing to pay, I was really disappointed with the movie selection and ended up streaming on our tablet. Huge disappointment to have 2 huge tvs, but not anything we wanted to watch. Now to the night, the bed was uncomfortable. There were no extra pillows, blankets or linens. My husband was cold because the blanket was so thin. Let down #3. The room had 2 phones with large screens that I couldn't turn off. They created so much light, that I couldn't sleep at first. I ended up covering them up with my robe. Let down #4. You have to use your money to start using their credit. They were nice but the procedure to use the credit was beyond me. My friend was the expert. The machines also very confusing. Thanksgiving dinner left not much to be thankful for. Reservations for 5:15 served salads at 6:22 , Finally get our 5 turkey dinners and 1 ham. Now understand we are not expecting much but raw veggies, mashed potatoes switched out for SCALLOP potatoes covered in gravy is disgusting. The turkey and ham were burnt beyond being edible. How does a restaurant advertising a family dinner run out of food on the first service?? Called 10 minutes before coming to ask if the hot tub was open, was told yes. great, we payed $200 to use the tub. She gave us the key and we went to use the tub. The key didn't work. Another lovely thing to note: The hotel walls are paper thin so you can clearly hear the moaning of the s*x workers all night in the neighboring rooms. Crazy considering how bad my hearing is. What a surprise! Booked an overnight stay for my family. Ended up having dinner and breakfast at their restaurant. It was absolutely fantastic. Not one single aspect of our food hadn't gotten some special touch. From the vegetables, the mashed potatoes, to the ranch dressing. Even my sons spaghetti and meatballs was special. We planned a trip to the Eureka area and after a lot of looking around decided on the Bear River Resort and Casino. Their rates for 3 nights were better than most of the hotels in Eureka. Eureka is only about a 15 minute drive north and plus we get the added bonus of something to do at night at the casino. The best part about this hotel are the employees. I was greeted by a friendly and helpful young lady at the Front Desk. In the restaurant the servers were excellent. One young lady gave me me advice and directions on how to find Fern Canyon. For me, the employees can make or break a hotel. The employees here are some of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever come across and they made up for the bad room experience we had. If you're vaccinated you don't need to wear a mask inside. If not, mask up. But who really knows and no one is checking. There are plenty of hand sanitizers and even temperature self check station by the elevators. I also saw attendants sanitizing slot machines in the casino. We ate twice at their restaurant next to the lobby and the food was surprisingly good. A little pricey but good. The free coffee in the lobby area was also very good. Now to the bad and why I took away one star. The room looked good but upon closer inspection, it could have been cleaned better. They must have painted recently but failed to sweep the area by the door. The air conditioner was just nasty. It was dusty and had pockets of dirt/mini dust bunnies clinging to the vents. I wiped down all door handles, the remote, microwave and fridge. My Lysol wipes were quite dirty when I finished. I also cleaned the air conditioner vents as my son has asthma. I regret not taking a picture of it show to how nasty it was but I wanted to quickly clean it before my husband saw it as he would have made a big stink about it. But something wasn't right in that room because my 2 kids who have not had allergy symptoms in years couldn't stop sneezing and sniffling. When we left the room they were fine and it would stop but once we came back for the day it would start up again. It got so bad I had to run across the street late at night to the gas station to buy Benadryl to relieve my son's allergies so he could sleep. Also, housekeeping did not fully clean the room each day. When we came back the first day, they just put in new towels and emptied the garbage bins. The beds were not made, used in room coffee cups not replaced. Nothing else was cleaned. We were like WTF. Maybe because of Covid they don't fully clean the room daily? Who knows. It was bizarre and never had this happened at any other hotel we've stayed at. Also, believe it when the reviews say the walls are thin. I could clearly hear the couple's conversation next door and a child crying 3 doors down. We ended up checking out a day early. Again, the clerks up front were more than helpful to check us out and informed me about a refund. Also a huge plus and why I give this place so many stars is because of the free EV charging. There are 2 spots on-site and we parked there and charged our car for the night. Car was ready and fully charged by the morning. There are also about 5 more charging units across the street. I would stay here again but next time I would definitely say something and switch rooms especially if its affecting your children's health. read more

Pros - Pretty nice room and decent price for the area and time of year. Supposedly recently remodelled, but given the drain and the tp holder barely hanging on it kinda makes you wonder. Staff was friendly and helpful. Front desk folks were all great and I never saw the same person twice in four days, had a drink one night and the bartender was totally solid as well. Cons - Bathroom sink would barely drain and stopper didn't work. Maintenance cleaned the drain out, but not the sink after, they got the big chunks but didn't clean it any more than that - f'ing gross! Oh, didn't bother with the stopper either, still broke... Nice fixtures, but water came out literally 1/2" from the back of the sink and at a dribble. Photo is with both handles wide open. Shower blasted it out, so not sure what gives. Not user friendly whatever the issue. Long hairs in the shower. I sport a buzz cut and these were a foot long, not mine. Casino is small, dingy, and tired. Minor, but wanted to enjoy a cocktail in my room after a day of hiking, and... ice machine was tits up. Biggest peeve, hotel parking garage was closed. Not for construction or remodelling, but for covid. WTF folks? Open air garage is an issue for you but you can fill the casino where at least half the people are either not masked or wearing them improperly. Asked if there was a section in the main lot for guests and was told I could park anywhere in the lot I could find a spot. I came down here to do some hiking, but not 1/4 mile each way to and from car. If you just want to gamble you might not mind some of this, but I'll take a hard pass on staying here again as I just wanted to be close to the redwoods and the casino was not the draw for me. So call ahead to be sure you can pay for your room. Bear River Casino... I am disappointed to say the least. This is my first review on Yelp as I felt others should beware of a similar experience. This is purely for the casino itself, nothing about the hotel or restaurants. General info: California state law requires cards to be used for the outcome on table games. This affects a couple games like roulette and craps- but it's not the casino's fault and I won't fault them for the legislature. Slots Due to the significant negative feedback on the machines lately I decided not to participate. Based on those who played slots around the tables and bathrooms, the bonuses aren't great and the payouts are low right now. I assume this is a reasonable financial move due to covid restrictions. Blackjack May be okay for card counters but the floor is, well... aggressive. The $10 table has 3:2 payout for blackjack but the $5 tables aren't worth it, and all tables have machine-shuffling. There are a few Spanish 21 tables for those interested. Craps This is really where the experience went wrong. First off, the cards. That's workable and not the fault of the casino itself, but do be aware that cards are used for the outcome rather than your dice. Next would be the dealers/table staff. Unfortunately the table staff doesn't know basic addition/subtraction/multiplication/division, and some of the staff clearly should be equipped with a calculator and a notepad as they don't know the payouts or remember your bet. There is also a rule about how high the dice are allowed to be thrown in the air, which is arbitrarily based on the height of the stick person and the outcome of the dice. It seemed to be that any time the dice would have the casino paying more than $1k to the table, there would be a "no shot" called after they had rolled and landed. If this rule were enforced while the dice were still in the air from the throw- totally fair. The enforcement of this rule was obviously dependent on the outcome of the dice. In general the floor has little tact or skill. Perhaps they should consider sending their dealers to the same school as the blue lake dealers so they can learn to pay out properly and tactfully back off winning players. read more

Well it started out ok but the front desk person verbally stated my room number upon check in. AC sorta worked after we messed around with both the control and the unit itself. The doors to the rooms slammed shut regardless of how you closed the door. The toilet seat and lid shut the same what as the room door, loud AF. One of the elevators was on the frites aka out of order. It didn't help that people decided to meet in the hall by the room and be loud, when there is a lobby that they possibly could have meet up at then go to the room(s) at 2 AM. Great clean room that was modern, clean enticing casino and game room. There were self serve sodas and coffee which I appreciated very much. I ate at one of the restaurants and the food was very good, loved the fries especially. Overall the vibe was very warm and everyone seemed friendly. In terms of spending the night, the rates were either comparable or even better than the usual places that I stay at which are on the order of Best Western Plus or Holiday Inn or the lower Marriott properties. And they have free EV charging which essentially shaved off $30 or $40 from my overall expenses and saved me the time for going to a charging station. I charged my car while I slept! Great entry point to the Lost Coast and if you have an EV it's a great way to start a Lost Coast trip with a full charge. read more

Also, the express restaurant stated that even a simple order was going to take around 45 -60 minutes. That's not express to me. The casino is small and obviously caters to a much older crowd. The room was very nice, the service you received for what you paid on the other hand.... The overpriced menu in the restaurant, did not equal the quality of food you received. The second day of our visit we attempted to eat breakfast, so we could gamble a bit more when we're done. We waited an hour and a half. The restaurant then proceeds to serve people that came in 30 minutes after us. We never received our food. An hour and a half and we wanted to go somewhere where we could actually get food. The night before we ordered the pork belly appetizer, it was so hard. I've never had pork belly that wasn't tender. Mashed potatoes had way too much garlic. Overall the food was worse than a Denny's! When brought it to the hotels attention, they made no effort to remedy the situation. The only thing I'm not mad about is due to the poor food service. We left without losing all of our money. Over all i just won't go back. There are plenty of casinos, with better service! Don't bother stopping just head on up to Eureka, or even into Oregon for much better casinos! read more
