Wouldn't change a thing. Food was outstanding. Couldn't finish. Lots of food. Went to the casino, lost. But the machines were huge and very easy for my mom, whom legally blind, to see. If you only need a place to stay for the night because you are cold and hungry, this place might be ok. Rooms were ok. Everything else was not ok. Would not stay here again. Could not believe how bad the service was. It felt like they were doing us a favor and putting themselves out by allowing us to stay in their tribal casino. Service is terrible. The staff at all levels, with the exception of the housekeeping staff are horrible. The front desk staff literally talked about a customer in a very negative manner in front of us (We were sitting down about 15 feet from them), and made fun of them. Very unprofessional. Security walks around so miserable it seems that it's like they were daring you to make eye contact with them. The wait staff were inept and displayed horrible service as well. We were made to feel guilty asking to order anything from them, and the only part worse than the service, was the food. Think "Throw the frozen Costco treats in the microwave, put the in a paper bowl and charge resort prices to do it". We stayed on the "Valley Side" and paid extra for it. The upside is we had a decent view once you look past the gas station glaring right in front of you. Stop by during our vacation and I had fun. The only downside was the bartender was gone for a while but other than that it was great. I won money on a few slots nothing major but $60-$130. Someone playing next to me won a $2,000 jackpot and some other guy hit two jackpots in another machine. Homeboy was betting big though. I'm not at that level yet. Bear River Casino is a very nice resort. I was there on a Saturday night though and a Family was located next-door and was continuing their noise until one in the morning and I was continuously being woken up from screaming and yelling babies. Once I finally complained to the front desk it stopped but then my family who was located down the hall said it started up down there till three in the morning. I keep giving the restaurants here a try but Thursday night was failure. There was 1 server and she was inexperienced and frankly quite rude. It took 20 minutes to get a salad. The food was bad. I left it on table didnt eat it. Thought hostess would take it off check but she wouldnt help. We were hungry when we left restaurant so went to snack bar. The rooms seem great, but the walls are so thin that it seems that people in the next room are in the SAME room. Our room on the fourth floor seemed like the fanciest room I've stayed in. Bed comfortable, things clean. But when people in the rooms on either side of us arrived, it was so loud, I thought maybe they were in the hall by our door. I even went to the door to check. The super-elegant sliding glass door to the bathroom looks great, but it doesn't seal, so when someone is in there, it seems they are in the same room. read more

Horrible. Dirty room and ridiculously loud. I had to listen to some POS next door who had his TV turned all the way up. He was talking loudly on his phone up and down the hall. I called the front desk. They said they would send security up. I dont think that happened since he continued to be unbelievably loud. While his TV was on, he was watching Outbreak, I started to hear moaning and then him grunting. He decided to watch porn loudly, probably on his phone ipad. We are going to check out a day early. We drove all day and now can't sleep. They really cheaped out building this place since the walls are so thin. The jerk got up at 4:00 am. I could clearly hear him peeing and farting. He then turned his TV on very loud again! Unfortunately if I could hear him, then he could probably hear me using the bathroom i tried to shut the bathroom door, but it would not shut..it just slid back open. read more

Parked here to grab breakfast and catch a break from our road trip Cresent City bound. Friendly for RV travelers as there were a few trailers parked at the rear parking lot. We Paid for a suite. Room had smoke coming through vents and staff would not give us a new room. We were treated as if we were smoking in the room. Staff was rude and not accommodating. Suite was suppose to have robes, but none to be found. The bottle of lotion on our bathroom sink was already opened and half used. The food there was mediocre at best and not worth purchasing from the food court. We went down for breakfast at 9am and was told restaurant was only serving until 8 am for complimentary but that we could purchase an omelet. We left and will never go back. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star! read more

My fiancé and I went on a date, made reservations for Valentine's Day. The server was great I had him before and he does his job perfectly. I ordered the beef Wellington (medium rare). It took us about a hour and a half to get our food. My Wellington was well well done. Pretty gross I only ate a bite. They need to get Gordon Ramsay in there to show them how to cook. Also the raviolis my fiancé got were very soupy and not that great. Both plates were in the $40 range.... I did tip good because the service was great. Two guards took me away, photographed me, and banned me from the casino for 24 hours because I took 7 CENTS from a machine. Eight friends and I decided to try Bear River Casino for the first time. It was first mundane, playing some slot machines, a game or two of blackjack, and ordering soft drinks (I don't drink alcohol). On one machine I wanted to play, there were 7 cents left over by someone else. I printed a receipt for the 7 cents, thinking, "at least I'm 7 cents up". After 10 minutes of sitting with my boyfriend at a table, two men approached me and asked me to come with them. At first, I thought I won some customer lottery and followed them to the entry. They asked me if I took money from a machine. I said I took 7 cents left behind, pointing at the machine and showed the receipt. The man stated I could not do that and that I was stealing casino property. A little baffled, I apologized. He then said I needed to leave and could not come back for 24 hours. I asked if they were serious. They said yes. They took my mug shot and information and told me to leave immediately. Since I road with a friend, I had to tell everyone why I was being kicked out. Just as miffed, they all chose to leave with me. I felt that there were many stops on the train before kicking out someone for, again, 7 CENTS! All I can say is we never went back. read more

Great place! Only having been to one other casino (in Vegas) I don't have much to compare it to. So in my opinion this place is just wonderful. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are very clean and very comfortable. I was not expecting such nice accommodations for the price we paid. A regular priced room was just under $100 and we asked about the packages. We ended up getting a 2 night stay with $50 food voucher and some amount of chips to gamble with so in the end we figured it cost a little over $100 each night for the package. Can u say bargain?? So as far as the restaurant goes, it was ok, nothing spectacular but it was fine. The casino was cute and there was a non smoking room for those who can't breathe. The dealers were friendly and even taught us how to play one of the games. They did not have sticks up their butts like the dealers in Vegas! That was my favorite part, just how nice they were to us. Make sure to book your hotel online. My husband I walked into the hotel and booked a room for $230. Then realizing the rooms are going for $130 online and the hotel refused to reimburse us the difference. The casino has a beautiful view, we've been in a few times to gamble a little and have some drinks in the lounge. I've heard the food is terrible, we ate brunch at the breakfast buffet once and it wasn't bad, we ordered a Caeser salad the other day while sitting at the bar and that also wasn't bad, but I don't think we'll ever go there for dinner. The drinks are extremely regulated with pouring methods; they use a jigger when pouring drinks, seems a bit ridiculous when the beer I ordered was completely flat. It was from the tap, and even when first poured it didn't stick to the inside of the glass; not a good sign. It means it's definitely flat and the glass may be dirty. I've never stayed in the hotel, but I hear it's nice. I'm not much for gambling, and this place is so out of the way I hardly ever get out there. read more

I went here for a weekend with my husband and 2 kids and when me and my husband went to the casino we just sent our kids to the rec center right across the street! And it had a gas station and a little Cigarette store! Oh and let me not forget.. the pool is nice! The kids loved it! Hot tub.. they could've done better for that. The last 2 plus years have been so enjoyable playing in a smoke-free casino. The smokers had their own slot machine room or they could go outside to smoke. What a disappointment when I came in earlier this week only to find they've opened up at least half the casino to the smokers again! If Bear River had a decent ventilation system, that would be one thing but they do NOT. I even tried wearing a mask which doesn't really help at all. We usually stay in Fortuna but couldn't get an accessible room. Decided to try the Bear River hotel. Accessible room with 2 queens was $99+. Nice roll in shower but one needs extra long arms to reach faucet. No place for soap and shampoo. Time to change shower curtain. Bed 6" too high for wheelchair. Easy fix and they need to do it. Views-none. Don't expect them. No free breakfast. Positives: spacious, clean, up to date room with native decor. White comforter and sheets. Coffee maker, free wifi. Lots of fluffy pillows. Thanks for the extra plugs near nightstand. Quiet heat/air system. Close to Ferndale with lots of good eats, and Loleta cheese factory (amazing selection of cheeses). read more

Poor customer services from the staff. Only the second time ever to this casino, both times were bad. First time was years ago just to eat for our anniversary, the food was horrible. Then, the 2nd of November we decided to try again for our anniversary, got a hotel room, rooms where nice, went to the Halloween Hangover party only to have Nicole from the staff clear our table while dancing. We had a group of use with our drinks on the table, that she moved. I went out to speak to a manager, only person who came was Jordan the head security guard. I told him, I would like a manager and he stated he was. Head security is not the manager. I told him what happen, when he told me, we were cut off. For what? Dancing. He said "because Nicole said. Deluxe Ocean View is no where to be seen. The employees talk loudly and it echoes down the hallway and the ones that are outside, talk right by our hotel window. The window blind is not wide enough to cover the light shining through, so we had to stack pillows in the window. The bathroom faucet is broken. The bathroom light shines through the glass door and reflects off a hall mirror, that shines right toward the bed. So if you go to the bathroom during the night, your partner might get a burst of light in their face. Maybe our stay would have been better in another room. The room itself is nice. Our room was not peaceful at all. Compared to other places I've stayed for about the same price, can't say that I would return. read more

I have been a customer of Bear River Casino for many years, and although I love the establishment, my recent experience with the staff (housekeeping in particular)has infuriated me. I stayed for one night in the executive suite and moved to another suite the second night (because the room was reserved for another guest). After being in the new room for about an hour, security came to my door and told me to pack my belongings and that I was no longer welcome at their business. Apparently the cleaning crew found a hypodermic needle in the closet. My girlfriend and I were the only people in the who had access to the closet at any time and although we are no angels, neither one of us have EVER used hypodermic needles and frankly, we find them absolutely disgusting and gross. I was so absolutely humiliated and embarrassed while leaving that I forgot to pick up my $200 security deposit and now they are trying to keep it. They said there's no way that the housekeeping could have missed it, but two weeks prior i stayed in the same room and forgot to take the remote for my soundboard, so I called to have the front desk look for it with no luck. I checked into the same room TWO DAYS LATER and found the remote barely under the couch in plain view as soon as I entered. That means the bellman missed it AND housekeeping missed it. TWICE!!!! So in a nutshell, because housekeeping is incompetent at doing their job, I was humiliated, stripped of all the promotions I had earned (Four free rooms per month, $60 per week of free play, $100 per month in food vouchers), lost my $200 security deposit, and banned from my favorite place to have fun in Humboldt County. I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS, they were completely out of line and should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Pretty tough spot to stay. While fairly nice and clean, the hotel is poorly constructed. We could pretty clearly hear the conversations in the room next to us and the people weren't overly loud. We even heard noise from a room at the other end of the hall. Biggest issue is the staff. Clearly the employees are not empowered to take care of guests. First, we asked about a late checkout and were given the standard response - we can only do an extra hour. Since this was on a Sunday, I am pretty sure there wasn't a line of people waiting to get into their rooms at 12n. Since that wouldn't meet our needs, we asked about storing luggage for a couple hours. The girl at the front desk acted as if no one had ever asked to store luggage at the hotel. I guess if you are looking to have a wild night at the casino and need someplace to crash, this isn't a bad option. However, if you have choices and flexibility, I would stay elsewhere. read more

Stayed recently while on a road trip with my sister. We pulled in and saw a sign for valet parking, followed the sign but couldn't locate a valet so we went to the hotel entrance. No valet there. Saw a woman dressed in a valet uniform at the casino entrance so we went up there. She said she did not handle hotel valet services. Back to hotel. I got out and went inside to inquire and was told to drive around to what they call underground parking (it's really a tiny, very cramped, covered parking area on the side of the hotel). We were then told to park our car in one of the tiny stalls, go get our own luggage cart, load on our bags, then take the service elevator to the main floor and check in. If you don't have valet service, take down the stupid signs! The room was nice but the bathroom was not clean. See attached pics. Because the bathroom wasn't clean, I began to wonder if the sheets had been changed. After getting settled in our room, we went down to play in the casino and get something to eat. On the way I made a stop in the ladies room by the hotel desk. I opened the stall door and there was a large pile of feces on the floor. There went my appetite! read more

Unfortunately, I have to change my review from a 5-star to a 2-star. Here is tedious explanation as to why: Casinos and their facilities are a special environment fraught with potential diceyy situations: fights, theft, cheating, drug use, belligerence, harassment...in the midst of what is "sold" as an "entertainment" situation; it is also that. With that having been said, running security in such and environment requires an exceptional person to carefully discern what a situation is, and act MEASURABLY to achieve the goal of the establishment. Vegas is a master of this. Indian gaming casinos, on the other hand, attempt to match that proven model.....but where Vegas is the equivalent of Major League Baseball, Indian gaming casinos too often are just a single-A reflection in execution and style. In less than 24 hours, Bear River insulted and embarrassed myself and my sig other on vacation with Jack Boot overkill behavior; each time, their assumptions were wrong, and they capitulated to accepting they were wrong. The third time this happened, it was necessary, with a business acumen to defend our innocence. This is indicative of a head of security who is unqualified, with limited experience, and ultimately guilty of being a JACK BOIT BULLY with shallow one-chess-move-ahead mentality. I hope you enjoy your vacation time here; we did not, thanks to this x-football player Bully who is stuck in the minor league of casino security, and in my opinion is woefully unqualified to handle the more exotic high roller high technology personalities encountered in this proximity to Silicon Vally and its MAJOR LEAGUE high level thinking people on vacation. ....but the rooms are sooooo nice. The steaks were made to perfection, I would have had the Ribeye but 16oz is just a little more than I can eat.... the New York was the best I have ever had and Steve had the same opinion on his Ribeye! Compliments to the Chef! Our King room was upgraded to an 'ocean view' which you can actually see from the 4th floor....very large room with an amazing shower! My friend and I were roadtripping up to Washington and along the way, we found this place to stay at. It was awesome!! The highlight of my friends trip! We had been looking at reviews of other motels and they were all around $50ish and had horrible reviews when yelp referred me to this place and I thank yelp so much because this place was great. If you reserve online you get a 10% discount off your total stay, most definitely do that. It was really a good deal for how much we paid $64 for a night considering there weren't much other options around. The staff was friendly, a nice and clean hotel, and made me feel safe since we were in a small town along the highway. But the rooms were HUGE and spacious and clean, that was probably what really made me happy with this place. I would most definitely come back here!! read more

The staff are very attentive, and incredibly kind. Any complaints or concerns we had were met with responsiveness. The staff are the best part of casino! I was impressed with 90% of them. I would not say that the casino rooms are clean however, as our shower had long black hair and pubic hairs all over it, including the bathroom floor and the blow dryer! I am hoping it had been cleaned but it did not appear well. We asked them to pay special attention to shower with service the next day, and although better, hairs were still present unfortunately. There were also lots of stains on carpets, chairs etc which can't always be replaced easily but cleaning should probably be more frequent. The restaurant staff were "ok" but things were a little slow at times and I wouldn't rate the food as amazing- more like "passes when you are hungry enough." A $12 pot of coffee can be delivered via room service in the morning... however the toast you may order to accompany is one slice of bread cut in half, and is $4. Yikes. read more

Horrible place. We checked in at noon, found out the water was shut off AFTER they took our money, then were lied to for hours about when it would be turned back on. "Within 30 minutes", told to us multiple times for 6 HOURS. Talked to a friend who stayed here the night previous and he said they had no hot water when he was here so they had to have been working on the water system. They KNEW the water would be shut off and still never told us until after they stole our money. Worst hotel I've ever been in hands down. Do not come here. read more

Love the room and the bathroom was amazing!! The walls though are way to thin. We could hear everything from our neighbors and even upstairs. Kids were running up and down the halls and slamming doors. They definitely need to add more insulation or something.
