Bear Roots Tavern took a long time to open but now that it's up and running, we couldn't be more happy! While we're not huge beer people, we still love to order pint of IPA or Hef and the food is incredible. So far, we've tried the brisket sliders, burger, pretzel, wings and my favorite, the fried zucchini. We like to stop in for lunch or an early dinner to eat and watch a game and we really enjoy the people who work there, the good, attentive service and the modern atmosphere. Very cool to have a nice, non-national-chain right in the heart of North Esco. We've already been several times and will certainly be back! Keep it up BRT Esco! read more

Pros: the inside was beautiful (even though we sat outside in the cold), and our waitress was wonderful. Cons: the food was TERRIBLE. I had the fish and chips. The fish was bland, overcooked, and soggy. The chips were cold and also soggy. They forgot the tartar sauce and didn't have any lemon. My friend ordered a burger and specified medium well. The bacon came out limp and the burger patty was so overcooked it was a hockey puck. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich that, while edible, took them a hour to bring out and wasn't worth the $17 charge. They were out of almost every beer we asked for, and all our poor waitress could do was continue to apologize for the mishaps. Definitely wasn't worth the $60 bill for inedible, boring food and a single drink. Hopefully as they are open longer they will work out some of these kinks - or at least hire a real cook. We went on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered one beer and a hard seltzer. Justin greeted us and was very friendly. There was about four small groups of people when we came in. It took us about 15-20 minutes to get our drinks. We also order two hamburgers. One had avocado. This took about 35 minutes. As we sat there we notice Justin was alone on the floor, pouring drinks, seating people, taking orders and brining out food. He was very overwhelmed. One person came out from the kitchen and just stood there doing nothing. She did this a couple times. She didn't volunteer to help Justin at all. The other groups of people came in after us. They were seated and they too had to wait an extremely long time for just beer and wine. No one came and helped him. When I got my burger(it doesn't come with fries or a side dish) they forgot the avocado. I had to wait another 5-10 minutes to get Justin's attention and another 10 minutes to get a small container. The food had good flavor but was extremely greasy. The $13 for a burger with no sides is not worth the money. There wasn't ANYTHING SPECIAL about these burgers. Just another brewery trying to act like the can be a pub and brew their own beer (which wasn't that great). Whomever was the manager should have more common sense and cover the service issue because they are going to loose more customers. A ridiculously long wait for food and drinks. I really want to like this place. It's close to home and a tavern! First visit tried the chili dog. More of a sausage and not the best. Not a fan of dogs that are chewy and tough to bite into. Not a big selection of beer because they had a soft opening. Didn't like any of the options. Went back to give it another chance. Had the fried "hot" chicken sandwich. It was way overcooked, tough, dry, and tasteless. The fries were good (asked for crispy). Mozzarella sticks could've been hotter. Had a larger beer selection but the ones I tried I did not care for. Staff was nice. But for what I paid I will take my business elsewhere. So disappointing. read more

The chicken sandwich was to die for. It was awesome. They let me sample pretty much every beer that they had and I'm not a big fan of their selection however, I'm sure a lot of people are. We've been here a couple of times. The decor is really nice and it's spacious, including the patio areas. The menu is typical bar food, but we've enjoyed what we've ordered each time. The service is good, but can get a bit "too" attentive. Each time we visited, the waitress checked on us what felt like every two minutes, which made us feel rushed. It's an inconvenience, but obviously better than the alternative. Hopefully, they'll work on that over time. read more

We've been here a couple times so far and the food has been pretty good. Recommend the brisket sliders and the burgers. Beers are hit or miss but I recommend the roots ipa and the pineapple express What has impressed me is the customer service. It's apparent they are still working out some kinks in their processes, especially if it's busy, but that's not surprising considering it's a brand new restaurant. Having said that, they are always attentive and when a mistake is made they are very apologetic and go above and beyond to make it right. All things considered we'll gladly be back. read more

This place is great after a round of golf at the Welk Resort or Reidy Creek. Chicken Pesto sandwich and their Fall pumpkin ale are great. The service is with a smile - THEY CARE. Stopped in today for a pint and a sandwich. The bartender was friendly and attentive. Had a Hazy IPA that was tasty. A good variety of craft beers on tap. Had the Pesto Chicken Sandwich which was delicious. Will definitely be back in the spring/summer to enjoy the roll up doors ambiance. read more

Tried Bear Roots when it first opened. Owners seemed to have gotten the hint and added more TVs and beer choices. Not sure if their license will allow but having a few choices for non beer drinkers might be nice (hard cider cans perhaps). Sat in the bar area and the bartender Matt is a very nice guy and seemed to appreciate our business. He is a big part of why I'll be frequenting this establishment. Great looking, outdoor/indoor space that is unexpectedly nice in the stripmall type plaza. I've always had really good experiences at the other Bear Roots locations and this was no different in the expected aspects: the beer is really great, the service is exceptional, the people are fun and friendly. I had higher hopes for the food in this location, especially given all the press indicated a scratch kitchen was planned. However, everything we ate (burger, dog, pizza, mozz sticks, chicken tenders) came off as prefab, processed, canned, frozen. The marinara had no more flavor than plain canned tomato sauce and the breading on the fried items didn't seem to have so much as salt and pepper. The variety of menu options is great and I really hope they either get back to the scratch promise or hone the recipes if this is truly scratch. This place has the potential to be a great brewpub, but right now it's just a great taproom. One other opportunity would be to offer can pours; our friend was more interested in the beers sitting around on shelves as decor than he was in the tap list, but they were genuinely just decoration and we couldn't buy it to take away or get a can pour, which was disappointing. read more

To start with the service at the front door was absolutely pathetic. But I do have to say it looked very, very nice inside. But I thought I had walked into a different universe by how poorly educated the customer service staff is. One staff member must've took 10 minutes to try to use a handheld device make an order for a Costomer food order. which never worked out and they had to go elsewhere to complete the purchase. Then I had to ask the same question five times and it took three different people to give me a simple answer. Do they sell gift certificates? I thought I walked into the movie, high times. The first guy in his 50's couldn't even pronounce the word gift certificate and had no clue what it was. So he immediately gave up and gave it to the next customer service person. that had to ask me the same question three different times as he kept putting me off to help other customers and kept asking me if I was eating in each time he returned and I kept asking the same question. With other customers laughing at the whole issue. That I should've reminded them that similar people to them are probably cooking their food. But what I found even more stupid Was the fact that Only one person in the whole restaurant had any knowledge of gift certificates and the companies rules on offering of them. Because they sell the gift certificates at one location and only for that location, but not for a new location that offers more for their customers. I truly don't see this location lasting with this type of poor management and employees that seem so high that their luck they can keep the orders and bills correct. Good luck read more

Let's hope it was an off Sunday. We tried this place based on the reviews. Great vibe and several screens. The one closest to our table was frozen and never worked. Service was very slow but staff did apologize and tell us he was the only one working. Another waitress started her shift about halfway through our time there. Food was mediocre. Nothing came out hot and everything was generic bar food and bland. I had chicken nachos and chose the jalapeño cheese. I couldn't taste any jalapeño and the chicken seemed like it had been grilled and cubed days ago. Tons of chips, very little toppings. I also had the Birra Feliccia beer. It was good. Hubby had the Philly Cheesesteak and an order of fries. None came out hot and was served a good five minutes after my nachos. We opted not to have dessert because they're expensive and was concerned it would be as mediocre as the mains. I'd say this place is best for an afternoon stop in and a couple beers.
